I’d do anything to save my missing sister, even sell my body to the highest bidder. Until he steals me from my buyer’s mansion. Camden rescued me, but he won’t let me walk away. Especially when I discover he’s my buyer’s son. And the strange thing? I can’t even be angry at the sweet, gentle, scarred Scotsman for the terrible thing he did.
Chasing after me will hurt him. And loving him will only leave me with scars. — Scar is the third episode in the wildly popular Dark Island Scots series. As with the previous brothers’ stories, this is darkly delicious and may raise eyebrows. Check the note inside the book for warnings. Remember Camden is a tattoo artist? Just wait and see where he lays down his…skills.
Let Camden and Breeze leave you emotionally scarred!

From an early age, Jolie lived in a fantasy world and is never happier than when plot dreaming. Jolie loves her heroes to be one-woman guys. Whether they are a huge Highlander, a touch starved earl, or a brooding pilot, they will adore their loved one until the end of time.

This series keeps getting by the book? I'm hooked y'all 😍
The romance was easily the best part of this book for me. Like sure there's an action and mystery subplot going on but oh my gosh the chemistry kept getting better by the page? Breeze and Camden compliment each other so well 😭🤌
Breeze was the kind of fmc that took a while to grow on me. My first impression of her was quite complex. She was both bold and reserved. Fierce yet gentle. But mostly she was hot headed and I didn't really know what to make of her but as the book progressed and we get to know her more, she definitely matured and grew on me.
Camden, or Scar, the man that he is. I swooned hard for this man. Like sure, he's got a bad boy thing going on but he's so soft and gentle at the same time 😭😭 His possessiveness is sexy and the will to learn about his partner's body is so endearing. Not to forget the emotional maturity and how he understands the important of communication. Ngl the man made me feel 🥵🥵
The spice is better than the previous two books imo. I absolutely ate it up. The romance was both angsty and endearing. I like how the author balances pivotal moments without the spice overpowering emotional intimacy 🤌
I can't wait to see what the next book has in store. I just know I'm gonna eat it up.
Tropes: dark romance; instant attraction; extended family trials; cinnamon roll hero; romantic suspense
“Camden and I were destined to crash into each other and leave scars.”
Jolie, you good? The newest series from Jolie Vines, Dark Island Scots, is a departure from her Highlander-loving Scotsmen of her earlier series, and it’s exciting and compelling. Now, for three books, she has enticed her readers with a prolonged storyline, wrought through plot ups and downs. That she compels her readers to dive into the books of this series is a testament to her capacity to keep her readers engaged. There is just something intriguing about her characters, Struan, Sin, Scar, and Burn. This found family that is actually blood-related pulls you into the story. However, it’s the running plot through the stories that drives readers forward. By the end of Scar, the newest story, there is no telling where the overarching story is going. We left with three complex heroes finding love amid the chaos of their lives. Woven into the fabric of this series is a delectable dark erotic spirit.
In Scar, we meet Camden “Scar” and Breeze who are brought together through the astounding events surrounding the men’s creep of a sp*rm donor. From the moment they meet, Breeze entrances Camden. Like Vines’s heroine, Cait, in Obsessed, Camden, unlike his brothers, has never felt $exual towards anyone. Yet, from seeing Breeze bound on a bed, he’s enthralled, much to his chagrin. Vines plays with the idea that kink is passed down through genetics throughout this series. Thankfully, she understands how to write heroes who transcend their pasts and parentage, so it’s safe to say that the heroes of this series might enjoy some pain, a little breeding, and bondage, but they lack the sinister of their birth father. I love how Vines questions this idea.
Scar is a literal twist and turn of a story. Leaving one chapter and going to the next absolutely sends you into chaos. Undergirding it, however, is a love affair between two people who simply want to be loved and find it in each other and their found family. This binds the entire story together and keeps you engaged when you’re nervous to turn the page for the action ahead of you. I’m excited about Burns’s story. I can’t wait for the villains to get their comeuppance finally. Jolie Vines - you have created a series that is a delectable prolonged series of erotic fireworks.
Scar is by far my favorite book in the series. I am surprised by this because Camden didn’t really stand out for me in the first two books. But he and Breeze owned this story.
The story has turn darker and grittier. It also has a lot more spice that the first two books and have explored more serious and darker kinks. While there was instant attraction on Scar’s part for Breeze, I love how Jolie Vines handled their attraction and developed it into trust and love.
That scene with Scar facing his trauma and Breeze being supportive of him was lovely. Their loyalty and love for their siblings is remarkable. The revelation about how he got his car was heartbreaking.
"Nothing had ever felt so good. I was instantly addicted to the rush. Her touch. Her every move. Chemicals washed over me, changing me."
Camden and Breeze meet under unusual circumstances. Breeze is looking for her missing sister and employing desperate measures to do so. Initially, she has completely the wrong idea about Camden, but little by little she begins to realise just how wrong. Camden and his family are looking for their missing brother and trying to locate their little sister, too. So much happens in this story, as it gradually unfolds and we get more revelations and links between the characters.
"You see your scar as your defining feature. I see all of you."
My heart was pumping hard all through this story. It was dark, gritty, and hot as hell. I loved how Camden and Breeze's connection developed and their natural instincts to trust one another. I loved the closeness of Camden and his family, and how they were all working together to find their missing loved ones, whilst treasuring the familial bonds they had already created. Honestly, I can't wait for the final book! This series is intriguing, twisty and seriously sexy! Thoroughly recommend it!
Camden and Breeze have to be one of my favorite couples that Jolie has written so far. To see their relationship progress throughout the story, and all the while Jolie has intertwined an even bigger mystery...well, that makes for an amazing story in my book. I didn't want this one to end. I enjoyed how both MC's were trying to navigate these new feelings that they were experiencing, as well as figure out where Breeze's sister was and all the while Camden and the rest of the gang were hunting for Burn. This was a great book and I can't wait to read Burn's story next.
"Don´t say I have a choice. Don´t give me the option of walking away because I don´t want it. Anything that comes our way, I can handle. I only want you, and the world can take us on together. Got it?"
This is a two POV book, told by the POV`s of Camden and Breeze. The POV´s of Lottie, Burn and Summer get singular chapters.
I just love all these characters so freakin´ much. Breeze I´d say is more hotheaded and more a "make fast decisions, spring into actions" kind of girl. At the same time she is also a bit more guarded, doesn´t trust as easily and carries herself with a certain pride and bravery. Camden I´d say is the most introverted out of all four brothers. He carries himself with a gentle calm and quietness, making rash decisions only when his emotions are high. He has this artistic side to him and cares deeply for other people. I´d argue that Camden is the one with the biggest "softie heart" out of the four brothers, deep down he is a cutie.
Regarding side characters you just know I loved those Burn POV chapters (he´s my favorite). I loved how their found family grew a bit and I feel like they took the time to bond more during this book. I always love when characters from the other series make appearances and you´re like "Oh my god I know you". I love how it is all interconnected.
Plotwise I kind of agree with my original standpoint on the book, it does feel a little bit less high stakes, but reading it a second time now, I feel like that was exactly what the series needed. A little "quiet before the storm" moment so to speak. The pacing in this book was still very well done, it never felt boring and I loved the little moments they all shared with each other which showed their bond growing. You still get a few action scenes in here as well as of course some good spicy scenes. I just have to say THAT tattoo scene is living in my mind rentfree. Every now and then I randomly think about it. I loved the character development in here (I feel like this book focussed a bit more on that) and the healing journey of both Camden and Breeze.
Overall it was a great book that I really enjoyed and I can´t wait to reread the fourth. (Jamieson baby, I´m coming!)
trigger warnings: sexual assault (not caused by the love interest), dub-con, prostitution/forced prostitution, mentions of pedophilia, domestic violence (not caused by FMC or MMC), mentions of child abuse
----------------------------------------------- This series is weirdly addictive, I´m really enjoying it but for me personally this felt a little less "high stakes" than the second one, I really enjoy the found family vibes though and the general vibe and mood of the series itself
I love this series and how it is interconnected throughout. Found family is becoming one of my new favorite non spicy tropes, if that makes sense. Camden (Scar) felt a need to step up for his family all while trying to deal with the damage he had growing up and falling in love with Breeze. Breeze also had some growing to do while searching for her sister, doing whatever it took to get info, including selling herself. This story answered some questions but brought so many that I have no idea how they’ll be answered and finished with Burn.
Seeing Camden and Breeze fall for each other while healing from their past trauma was something I needed. These poor men suffered so much because of McInver and seeing them heal and find love has this reader smiling and giggling. Camden, I feel like, needed to heal the most. He was dealing with all the things in these books, and because he rarely talked about his past, that needed to happen. Finding out how he got his scar broke my heart. Breeze also had some healing to do, and I can’t wait to see her growth continue in the next book.
Always good seeing my bae Gordain in these books. Even though that series is separate it’s refreshing seeing them in this series too.
Camden is a sweetheart with some fun kink and Breeze is a perfect match for him. I’d be interested to read a scene where she ties him up.
I didn’t love the tattoo placements but that’s probably just me lol
Overall, it felt like a really long novella. Didn’t really build on anything from Sin’s book. More of a book for Camden and Breeze to heal from past trauma and find a way to move forward together. Just introduced and setup the story for the next couple and how the family tries to find freedom.
MY GOD!!! This book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Yet again I ignored work, family and everything to be in the Dark Islam Scots world. Cam and Breeze are 🔥🌶🔥🌶🔥🌶🔥. The tattoo kink ughhh . I love that his family just took her in no questions. The ending! Miss Jolie! Killing me Over here with the wait for Burn. But it’s gonna be soooo good
10 stars for this book. That’s all I can say with our giving anything away.

Scar is the third book in the Dark Island Scots series. This one centers around Camden (Scar) and Breeze. So many twists and turns which is very common with this series. These Dark Island men are learning more about the secrets of their lives. I think I’m more invested in learning all these secrets than they are at this point. Scar really steps up and becomes the leader of the family. I felt like he was done letting Sin carry all weight and started doing his part for the family. There’s something really hot about that too.
I love this family so much. No matter what, they have each others backs and support everyone’s decisions for themselves and the family. I felt like Scar was so broken from what he went through in his childhood. What he had to witness and go through as a child and then as an adult. Everything changes when he first sees Breeze (in the second book of the series, Sin) and getting to know her. He really met his match with her. They are truly perfect for each other.
Now.. can I talk about how I now have a tattooing kink? Did not expect that at all and it was so damn hot!!!! To brand someone like that?! Hot. Hot. Hot. Not to mention my favorites from other books of Jolie’s make an appearance as well. Such a treat. And of course this wouldn’t be one of Jolie’s masterminds if it didn’t leaving me needing more. Cannot wait for the next book in this series. These Dark Island men are everything!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book for my honest review.
Scar (Dark Island Scots #3) by Jolie Vines is a new adult romantic suspense told in first person from multiple points of view. As the third book in a series with a continuing storyline, it ends with a cliffhanger. Picking up where the previous book ended, the story explores the relationship between Camden (aka Scar) and Breeze in the aftermath of the McInver fire, as Camden and his brothers search for their two siblings and Breeze searches for her sister, all hoping to reunite. Most of the story is told from Camden’s and Breeze’s perspectives, but there are three other character POVs of one or two chapters each.
I enjoyed Camden and Breeze’s story. It’s my favorite in the series so far. Even though Camden rescued her, his relationship with Breeze didn’t have the smoothest start despite their chemistry. At first, they seemed to have opposing goals, but they soon found common ground. Like both books that came before it, Scar was full of suspenseful twists and turns. Some pieces of the mystery were revealed, but other questions still remain to be answered in the next book. I can’t wait to read the conclusion and find out how it all ends in Burn.
Holy smokes!!! What a thrilling journey we go on with Camden and Breeze.
As always amazing to have more with the brothers and their girls, but oh Breeze and Camden totally steal the show… as is only right with it being their book ❤️
We dig deeper in the McInver hole and oh what a piece of work he is!
This is so addictive. An absolutely phenomenal read and just helps build this to an unforgettable series 🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 stars. I enjoyed this book and I loved Scar but I thought the story went very fast and it was insta-love. I think my favorite couple is Sin and Lottie. Also there was so much other stuff going on and not sure how it’s all going to be resolved. But I’ll read Burn because I want this family to have a happy ending.
At this point I think I would keel over in shock if I rated a Jo Vines book less than 5 stars. She's simply amazing. Needless to say it was torture waiting until I got home from work to dive into this book the day it was sent. One of the reasons I love reading romance is because I love to fall in love. I fall in love with the setting or with the story, with the hero (almost always), with the heroine, sometimes with an unexpected secondary character. For me, the hero makes or breaks a romance, and in that department, this author shines. Struan, Sin (SIN!), Scar... swoony Scots are done just perfectly in Jo Vines' world. Something I've never gotten on board with is reading a series revolving around the same main couple. I want a NEW story, a NEW love, a NEW happy ever after. That's what makes this series so amazing... you get a new couple, including a to die for hero every time, but... BUT... you get the amazing supportive cast of the rest of the family, and as the story evolves, so do all of THEIR love stories. It's brilliant, really. For instance, in this book, which is Breeze and Scar's story, there is a very steamy love scene between Lottie and Sin (couple from the previous book). I love that! (I'm saying "love" too much, I know)
Ok, all that aside, speaking of this book... I told Jolie Vines if I didn't love her so much I would hate her for what she puts this family through every.single.time. There's drama, and then there's DRAMA. I feel like these books are the climactic scene in Mission Impossible or a Bond movie, and the scene never lets up or ends. Just constant stress and anxiety and intensity and it makes me wonder how these characters aren't chewing antacids like candy.
I'm a big sucker for the rescue trope... so considering Scar literally rescues Breeze from his father's house where she was being held (after being purchased as a prostitute from an auction), I was ALL IN. Breeze had her reasons for being in that position, and there were times she totally resented Scar for interfering. I loved that she didn't make it easy for him. One thing these Dark Island boys have is a protective streak a mile wide, so even though she wasn't happy about it, Scar just couldn't help himself when it came to saving her.
This book was equal parts the romance between Scar and Breeze and the continuation of the family's story that started with Ruin. There is something about them, all of them, that will have you rooting for them. The loyalty they share, the fierce way they protect each other, the determination to figure out ANY WAY to keep their family together - heartwarming and emotional.
I hope this isn't a spoiler, but this book has dual virgins, which I loved. Scar had never even felt attraction for another woman until he first saw Breeze (which totally messed with his head since she was a naked, tied up captive at the time). Breeze was determined to infiltrate the underworld that she believes her sister is caught up in, which meant putting herself up for sale. Camden (Scar) was having no part of that, and, unable to resist his feelings for her that were so strong from day one, he sets about making her his.
I know this review is all over the place, but that's the way this book left me feeling... my emotions are all over the place. I'm so happy for Scar and Breeze, I love that she fit so perfectly with his family. But I'm so anxious about Burn and Cassie and I don't see how this little group of misfits is going to get a happy ever after for their family.
If you're looking for a wild ride with lots of steamy romance (like... HOT), a ton of emotion, and a family bond stronger than blood, READ THIS SERIES!
“Are ye seriously going to tattoo me while ye fuck me? Think I died and went to heaven."
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I didn't fly through this book as fast as the others. I found it a bit slow. I think that's because 1). It focuses almost solely on Scar and Breeze. We don't get a lot of the family that I've come to love. 2) It's setting up for the final book in the series.
I did really like Scar and Breeze's story though. When he "marks" her and she "marks" him right back, I thought it put a unique twist on their story. I also liked that we got a bit of Burn. I can't wait to have his full book. I'm guessing he may end up being my favorite.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
“I’m in love with ye in ways I never thought possible. You’re my whole world.”
“I’ve been thinking about ye endlessly. I can’t stop picturing what I did—” “What you did? You tattooed your name on me,” I hissed. “Is it healing?” “Yes, I followed your kind instructions,” I snapped. “Your name is healing beautifully on my pussy.”
“Yes, Breeze. I’ll confess it. Whatever my regrets, it is the hottest fucking image in the world to know my name is there. Or maybe it’s the memory of ye getting wet with it, or perhaps that time ye sucked my dick. All are contenders.”
“I turn you on, though,” I added. “Ye do.” “A lot?” “Constantly.”
“I want to touch ye.”
“Do that with your mouth. You claimed my pussy, now get to know her."
Finally, I caught my breath, and I trailed my fingers through the mess, then rubbed my cum into her pussy lips, pressing down on my tattooed name.
“I want to try more things,” I stated instead. “For some reason, my pussy is really interested in you, despite everything you did to her. We have time to kill before morning, so either play with me or sit and watch me read. Your choice.”
He wanted to dominate me. I wanted to let him.
“These need to go. Got another pair?” “Yes,” I stuttered.
A moment later, he thrust between my folds then jerked, coming, too, and growling his pleasure under me. Wet landed on my thighs, and his hand went straight to it, rubbing it into my core. On the tattoo then lower. This time, he hadn’t even penetrated me as we’d worked out how to play. Now, he pressed a finger into me, then two, taking his cum inside.
“Ohmigod. Are you okay?” I stooped beside him, my heart speeding. “That was just me falling for ye."
I strode from the room and waited outside until I heard the lock engage. It was the same as the first night she’d stayed at the cabin. Except our positions had flipped. She’d been the one wanting me closer then. Now, all I wanted was to fall asleep holding her.
“Let go with me. I’m here to catch your fall.”
“Are ye seriously going to tattoo me while ye fuck me? Think I died and went to heaven."
“Every time I get hard from now on, your tattoo will be right there,” he gritted out. “Does it hurt?” “Like a motherfucker. I love it.”
“Shower?” he asked, hot and sweaty against me. “In a minute.” He made a low growl and kissed along the side of my face, down my neck and back up. “Warning, if we stay like this, I’m just going to want to fuck ye again before that minute is up.”
He grabbed my hand and took it to my pussy, spreading my fingers into the mess. “Feel what we did. I’m addicted to that.” “I am, too,” I confessed. “Good. Because I’ll be doing that to ye constantly from now on. Every chance I get."
This is book 3, and it picks up right after the cliffhanger blazing glory of book 2! We got to enjoy reading about Sin and Lottie in the last book, and now it's time to get some story time with the youngest of the oldest McInver boys.
Breeze is searching for her missing sister, diving into the world their mother used to live in and following her sisters steps in hopes of finding her. All of that gets sidelined when a giant idiot comes barging in with his un-needed protectiveness.
Scar, Sin, and Ruin are all back together, but feeling the empty hole left by the absence of their youngest siblings. They have to find Cassie to try and get her back, and they need to find Burn. The boys have a plan and are moving their chess pieces in place when everything they thought they knew about the world they were trying to escape isn't enough, their family's safety is still their #1 goal, it's just harder to obtain now.
My favorite character from this story is Breeze. She is blunt, fierce, and has a thick layer of walls and barbed wire around her heart. The fact that she let herself fall for Camden was the first thing she had done to make herself happy or for her own happiness. The moment I fell in love with Breeze was: Closing us in, Breeze led me to the dark, bare living room. "I can't imagine what you went through, but if you'll talk, I want to hear all of it." She kissed my jaw, pushing up on her toes to reach my cheek next. Then she moved back to give me space.
My favorite scene is after we hear Camden's story, from his own mouth, and this was his realization: In a short space of time, I'd gone from wanting her desperately to needing her completely. I didn't know shite about love, but I knew a lot about my heart. I was falling in love with Breeze.
And my second favorite scene was a heartbreaking but loving scene having to do with Lottie's and her mother. Mother/Daughter relationships are very hard to navigate. But if you are unfortunate enough to get a mother who only picks at your faults, your sense of confidence is damaged, and then when you are away from her and get to experience having someone actually support and care about you, it's hard to find the care for your mother again.
This was a wild ride of figuring out how much of your parents influences who you are as a person, fighting against immorality, finding out who you are, and finding people who care about you more than you had experienced before. And I love how this theme has carried through all of these boys' books so far, and can't wait to see where the next book, Burn, takes us!
I received a copy of this book from the author and am leaving a voluntarily honest review
4-4.5🌟 stars Nobody writes a fast-paced adventure romance like Jolie Vines: this book in point. She draws you in with the tragic backstories of the main characters and then sets them up for a grand passion, hot and steamy, that has to jump through hoops to get to an HEA. High speed chases, villains and some sleazy types to deal with: Scar and his brothers have it covered, in this instance with some help from some of the alpha men from Vines' earlier Scots series.
Scar aka Camden is on the lam with brothers and determined to reunite with his missing younger brother Burn and sister Cassie. Enter Breeze, a young woman willing to sacrifice herself to find her sister and pay off her basketcase mother's debts. Scar zeroes in on her immediately upon meeting and needs to save her from the path she's chosen. Turns out both of them lived their youth with mothers who survived through prostitution. They've been pyschologically scarred as a result, and Scar carries a major facial scar to constantly remind him of those horrible days. The couple's intimate scenes are by no means vanilla(!) and include some liberties taken with Scar's trusty tattoo gun😧.
I liked this one much better than Sin, the second in the Dark Scots series focused on Lottie and Sin, because the relationship seemed healthier.
There's plenty of action but, unfortunately, Scar & Co. don't make a ton of progress in getting near and dear ones back together. Some major problems are outstanding, waiting to be addressed, at this story's conclusion. Have to come back, but that's not exactly a hardship!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
This series gets more and more plot twists than anyone could imagine 😱
So, where to start? I loved Camden. I would say he is very vulnerable. Not only because of the huge scar on his face. But like all the other guys he has a dark history 😔 Now that they found out who their father is, one of his biggest fear is being like him. When he met Breeze for the first time, it was when she was tied up and at this moment his sexuality awoke. But he isn't like his 🍑🕳️ of a "father". He would never hurt a woman. He is a good guy 🩷
This is a dark romance series, but it's dark because of all the things that happened to the guys when they were young and the things that happened because of the kidnapping. They aren't clean of any crimes, but nothing big. Except for the thing that happened because of the kidnapping. So, they aren't mean to the girls, on the contrary. They are so cute to them 😍 I loved how Camden fought for Breeze. They have so much in common with their dark past 😔 And even though he and his brothers try to find their missing brother (and the 5th person who was brought to the island), he starts helping her to find her missing sister.
One thing I so needed to know was, how Scar got his scar. There was already a hint in the last book, but nothing concrete. And yes, this book has the answer and it's one of the many twists 😎
This book is so full of action, you need to pay attention to not get a whiplash 🤣 And I'm sure that won't stop until the end of the series and I sooooo need the last book. That's why I'll again instantly jump into Burn's book.
Holy wow.. this series just keeps getting crazier and crazier. I absolutely love it! Each story that we get, each brothers background that we learn makes me love that brother more than the next. But each brother is different. Each girl they fall in love with is different and I can't help but love that.
This is Camden (Scar) and Breeze's story. I'll be honest. I wasn’t sure what I would think of it. I didn't have an instant like towards Breeze. Camden? Yes, but I've loved him since the first book. Breeze just didn't sit well with me. And I think that's because she instantly judged him. She knew he was McInver's son and just assumed he was a rich playboy with his father's deviant tendencies. You know what they say about assumptions. I also thought she was idiotic (not naive, I could overlook being naive) for putting herself in the same situation twice without thinking of the repercussions. I liked her more by the end but mostly because Camden loved her. I just really didn't.
Camden on the other hand? I loved his growth in this story. He not only became an amazing person but he also became a stronger man. A better man. He stepped up and proved himself not only to his brothers but to himself as well. I just wish he could have accomplished what he wanted to. But if he had we probably wouldn't get Burn's book. And that is a book I need after this one.
Now the question is... how long do we need to be patient??
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*
I voluntarily read an arc of this book and am leaving an honest review. This book is dark…darker than the others for sure and very emotionally charged. Scar’s story is not an easy one, Breeze’s even less so. But I loved every minute of the darkness and struggle these two faced! Scar has no experience with women, his childhood scarred him in more ways than just his face. He loves his brothers and little sister and feels that is enough for him. However in the last book, he glimpses someone who has the power to change his mind. Breeze, a tough, determined girl, looking for her missing sister. She’ll do anything to find her, even put herself in a position she might regret. She only trusts her sister and her life has taught her no man can be trusted or believed. Slowly though, these two begin to know one another, building new beliefs and leaning on each other like they’ve never done before. Scar is gone for Breeze and she’s starting to place him in a never before known category of men. Trying to find Burn, get Cassie their little sister back and for Breeze, to find her sister Summer makes this a very full and exciting book. The love scenes are beyond anything I’ve read. Their pain and longing is heartbreaking, all of this combined to make a story that will blow your mind and the sneak peek at the end of the next book has me thinking about it long after I finished Scar’s story. This author continues to blow me away with her gifted creativity and stories that keep your attention before, during and after you’ve read them.
So the theory I had about Breeze’s sister didn’t pan out, but that’s okay. One of the best things about Jolie Vines’ Dark Island Scots series has been her ability to keep me guessing. This has truly been the twisty-est non-paranormal romance series I’ve ever read. And did I mention it’s spicy, too? Whew! These boys know how to take care of their women!
Scar picks up with three of the brothers fleeing a burning estate with the woman Camden (a.k.a. Scar) had seen in the house on a previous reconnaissance visit. Breeze had allowed herself to be purchased in the hope of finding her missing sister and she’s not happy that these men, for all their good intentions, ruined her plan. She stays with them though until she can find a way back into sex trafficking system that she fears has claimed her sister.
Camden and his brothers still don’t understand the scope of the situation they’ve been thrust into. When an opportunity lands in his lap to find out more information, he takes it hoping it will help him find out what’s happened to their brother, Burn, and sister, Cassie. He wants to help and protect Breeze, too, but he’s worried the fantasies stirred by his attraction to her only prove that he’s as depraved as his biological father.
As Breeze and Camden search for answers the attraction between them grows, becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. When they explore their desires together, they are combustible!
As with the previous books in this series, Scar ends with a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see how Jolie wraps everything up with Burn’s story!
Mind blown, heart shredded and now desperately waiting for Burn’s story! Each book in this series has ripped at my heartstrings, been just that bit darker, addictive and enjoyable. Scar has had a childhood that eerily mirrors each of his brother’s experiences. They unfortunately share a depraved pervert as their sire, a man with a far reach and too many friends or cronies who do his bidding and have similar interests. Scar’s attraction to Breeze has him believing he is a chip off the old block, doomed to spiral into the depraved depths in which his sire is mired. Even with that worry in his head, Scar can’t control his attraction to Breeze or his deep need to help and protect her as she seeks out her own answers. Their chemistry is too hot to be contained, a trait shared by his brothers and the women who have sparked their interest and claimed a place in their hearts. As they all work together in order to find Burn, little Cassie and now Breeze’s sister, they must confront their pasts, the dredges of society, as well as the filth. The fact that they can count on each other is one of the few blessings that has been bestowed on this group that now calls itself a family. This gritty, wonderfully twisty book ends on another cliff hanger that spurs the need to read Burn’s book to find outs nwhat happens next.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
When Scar first saw Breeze tied to a bed at their fathers house, he knew that he had to save her. They’d tried a phone call to the police without success. At the conclusion of Sin’s book, McInver presented Breeze to Sin like an offering. He expected her to follow in his footsteps but was sadly mistaken. Scar managed to help her and take her back to the McCray estate until they could all be reunited again. Struan was still in hospital and there was no sign of Burn anywhere. But what Scar didn’t understand was that Breeze had to at least try to rescue her sister Summer. Her first attempt had failed miserably. So when she outwitted him and took Keep’s car, he’d no idea where she had gone or if she’d come back. But when she did return the two of them became closer with an innocence to their relationship. Neither had experience but that didn’t hinder their passion. Working together they were able to try to trace Summer’s tracks, sharing their stories with each other along the way. It turns out that Summer has a history with Burn that they can’t yet explore. As the family is reunited bar two, Sin and Lottie have errands to run that pose a whole new problem for the family, especially when they finally hear from Cassie… A fantastic addition to the series with a different air of innocence this time round. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Superb. Now we need Burn’s story to hopefully free our family for good.
Scar (Camden) saves Breeze from his depraved father. Well, he thinks he has. Breeze sold herself to the senior McInvers in order to try and find her sister. This backfires as the senior McInvers is hospitalized, and his b@st@rd sons are trying to figure out his game.
Breeze promptly gets herself put back into the auction, but Camden finds a way to purchase her. He thwarts an ally of his father's, who has his sights set on Breeze. Camden finds his prize tied down and waiting for him, but he doesn't abuse his position, but does leave her with a lasting mark. Like the other brothers, Scar falls for Breeze and wants to keep her for himself. Meanwhile, the same powerful ally, a police chief, is holding Burn (Jamieson) without charges for arson of their father's mansion. I think he knows Burn is McInver's son, but I'm not sure what the end game is yet.
The plot holes are starting to tighten up and we only have the story of one brother left. Thea, Lottie, the men fathered by a deranged s€x tr@fficker, and now Breeze's family are all tied together. I am curious to see how the final book wraps up all the secrets and finds a way for all the couples to have their HEA. The final book is set to be released on March 23.

This is the redemption I needed for Sin. Scar is kind, and sweet, but fiercely committed to protecting his family. I can even forgive the tattoo. The island boys are still on the run, trying to find Burn, trying to find Cassie, and trying to figure out what to do about the shock of their Daddy news. Then Scar steps up and takes charge. Where Struan and Sin are impulsive and fueled by anger, Scar is more level headed and serious, except with Breeze. He’s soft, considerate, and bent on protecting her. Though he’s younger than the others, I wasn’t surprised to see Scar take charge when he saw an opportunity to fix things. And I was smitten with his quick love for Breeze and their playful banter. I was also happy to see that Scar held his own voice where Sin had sort of warped into the same voice as Struan. This book of course ended with another massive cliff hanger. And so I’ve already cracked open Burn. I have to see how this family saga ends, especially since this series has me quickly tearing through it.
**this story contains moments of physical and sexual abuse, involving main characters but not between each other. While this is a consensual story between the main characters themselves, it may trigger some readers.**
Read this in 2 days, and I think it’s my favorite of the series. Although Ruin sets the scene and Sin gives us the happy moments of the found family living together in the beach house, Camden has the most heart of the 4 brothers, and Breeze is possibly my favorite of the FMC’s in all the books. The first two brothers (Ruin & Sin) are so pigheaded and downright rude to their ladies most of the time, while Camden basically worshipped and respected Breeze from the moment they met, which I found refreshing. I also thought Breeze had more gusto and personality than Thea & Lottie during their FMC moments; Breeze was sarcastic and independent, while it took until way later for Thea & Lottie’s characters to develop and become likeable. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both now…but they both had a few frustrating moments before their HEA.
There were definitely some shocking moments in this book (especially involving a tattoo gun!) but it was great seeing Camden/Scar find himself and become a man. The Cassi scenes absolutely GUTTED me, and that plus trying to find Burn really spurred me into the next book. It didn’t have much of an ending, so it was fortunate that we have the 4th already out to see how this amazing thriller ends.
