Burn for Me

Rate this book
Lillian Rouse is new in town and determined to rebuild her life after a divorce. With everything new: a place to live, and a job in a new city, she sees an exciting future within her grasp. What she doesn’t take into account, is the handsome man who calls himself Smoke to overwhelm her senses.

Zack Smoker has worked hard to build his new company, and the last thing he was looking for was a woman to invade his mind. Especially one with little to no good experience in the bedroom. Only the first time he stares into her whiskey-colored eyes, he’s caught in a wave of desire that he can’t escape from.

When Zack learns that Lillian’s new job is at his company, he’s determined to get to know her and teach her things she never knew existed in the bedroom. He is all about pleasing her, but he never expected that he’d have the need to protect her too.

With Lillian pushing Zack away, the burn they feel for one another gets put to the side. Will the fire be extinguished or will Smoke find a way to get Whiskey to burn for him as he does for her?

Honestly! I fell in love with this book. It’s got just the right amount of relatable to it. The spice is to die for. The random thriller aspect adds so much into the book. And I cannot wait to read book 2!

Wow! What a fantastic book! I loved it so much! I absolutely loved that it started with a chance meeting, two people in the same place at the same time. The chemistry between these two characters could have started a fire, that's how many sparks were flying. Grab a fan and some ice cold water while you read this one. You'll need it!

First things first, the last chapter of this book should be read with caution and there should be a trigger warning at the start of the book. The scene is an almost rape and it is very descriptive. Please, if this is a trigger for you, read with caution.

The characters in this book were well developed and I got invested in their lives instantly. Every time I wanted to know more about them, Olivia just kept giving me the answers. Smoke is a strong Alpha male who wants to fix everything he can, and sometimes can't, and it all comes from that special part of his firefighter heart. Whiskey is a woman who wants her independence, and does NOT want anyone's help to get it. Especially Smoke's! She's starting new and wants to do it on her own.

The back and forth between these characters had my attention right from the start. There was just something about them that I couldn't get enough of. And that cliff hanger... I need the next book!!!

OMG!! This book was amazing!! It had me captivated from beginning to end. Whiskey (Lillian) is currently going through a divorce from her controlling and abusive husband when she meets Smoke (Zach) at a bar. Both are there for different reasons but instantly hit it off. The stars aligned, and they run into each other again at work as she's the new assistant to his business partner and best friend. From there, the struggle is real to keep things professional between them. A break-in at her apartment pushes the boundaries of their restraint and turns their chemistry into a blazing inferno. However, just as things start heating up, the past veers it's ugly head and turns Whiskey and Smoke's world upside down.

I knew this book was a duet, and I'd need to read book 2 to finish Whisley and Smoke's story, but man did that cliffhanger gut-punch me! This story really took me on an emotional rollercoaster, and I absolutely loved it!! Books that get me emotional invested are the best. The writing and plot was great and flowed very well. I could completely empathize with Whiskey and everything she's been through. And could understand how abused women have a hard time recovering from those relationships. Smoke is being so patient with her, and that's so sweet and amazing. He did lose it sometimes with her, but he too understands that it's going to take time, patience, love, and support to get her past it. I can wait to see how their love story concludes in Burn With Me. Excellent read!!

Lillian (Whiskey) is new in town, looking to start over after her husband sought a divorce. She is self conscious because of her soon to be ex husband and doubts herself. She meets Zack (Smoke) at a bar, where she is waiting for her friend. Her friend has been encouraging her to be more spontaneous, so she flirts with Smoke, but they do not go any further.
The next day she starts her new job and Smoke happens to be one of the company owners. He is happy to see her again, but Lillian decides that they cannot be involved with each other as she works for him.
Smoke is determined to be with Lillian, he decides to try and spend more time with her so that they can get to know each other better and hopes to change her mind. But will Lillian be able to let go of the past finally and allow herself to move on.

I enjoyed reading this story and cannot wait for the next book.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Smoke, aka Zach, and Whiskey, aka Lillian, meet at a bar. Their connection is very strong and neither can forget the other. Imagine their surprise when they realize she just started working at his company. Let the games begin. Can’t wait for the rest of their story. Good start to this series.

Lillian has moved to town to start over after her divorce from her controlling ex. Zack was firefighter, but after a career ending injury, started his own company to help his fellow brothers.

This is a slow burn with a lot of heated tension and explosive passion as Lillian/ Whiskey and Zack/Smoke connection will grab you from the start. They met at the bar while waiting on their friends, only to realize the next day that Lillian is his business partner's new assistant.

Lillian struggles within herself as words from her ex repeat in her mind, but Zack is determined to show that they are wrong.

Great story that will leave you wanting more.

Lillian has moved to a new town to restart her life away from her abusive husband who is soon to be her ex. She connects with Smoke while she waits for friends, and it sends sparks between them. Smoke doesn't know what hit him because he never gets a rise from women especially after his ex. As these two connects Smoke feels that she could be a problem for him, and it soon comes to light because she is the new hire for office assistant to his partner. Right when Lillian thinks she is making head way someone breaks into her apartment and it feels familiar. Will Smoke rally around Lillian to keep her safe?

Burn for me was the first book I have read from Olivia Monroe and it won't be the last. She is an amazing author and this story was addictive.
Lillian has gone through alot with just going through a divorce and moving to a new town. The last thing she expected was to meet Zack (or smoke) the guy who is determined to teach her things she has never dreamed of in the bedroom.
You won't be disappointed in reading this book trust me.

I hate that it ended on a cliffhanger and I feel like I wasted my time reading this book. I can’t get over the fact that the heroine stayed with her ex-husband that long. First he gave her THREE STDs. Second he cheated on her with multiple women that are prostitutes hence the STDs and lastly he’s abusive. The reason that they are divorced is because the ex-husband want one. Why would you not divorce him the first time he gave you std? There’s no redeeming character of the heroine. I don’t if she’s stupid or something. There are lots of books that have heroines who are weak but not on this level. It’s like she has no self respect and pride.

I thought this was a great book by an author new to me and it sure won’t be the last book I read by her. It was well written, it was blazing hot and it sure leaves you hanging waiting for the next book. Smoke and Whiskey are good characters and especially Whiskey is a very complicated woman finding her way after a miserable marriage. She wants to be her own woman but she also knows she needs Smokes help, just doesn’t know how to accept it. Highly recommend the book.

This is the first in a new duet and this story ends in a cliffhanger. Lillian has moved to a new town for a fresh start after her divorce. Zack / Smoke and Lillian cross paths in a bar and there is an instant connection between them. Neither character is looking for a relationship, but they are on each other’s minds. When Lillian starts a new job and it is at Zack’s company, he is determined to get to know her. When Lillian is in danger, Zack will do whatever he must to protect and keep her safe. This is a well written story which is fast paced, and with danger, intrigue, suspense, emotions, chemistry, and leads to a steamy page turner.

I love this story. It hits home for me as I went through what Whiskey (Lily) went through. Her personal situation was my own personal hell. Although I wish I could have met someone like Smoke (Zack) cause that would have been awesome. Anyway, I look forward to reading the next book to find out what happens. Highly recommend reading this.

Lilly finds herself sharing confidences with a stranger in a bar about her Ex and his cheating ways. Smoke is instantly enamored and wants to know more about this enchanting woman, but she walks out of his life without a backward glance. This is a fantastic start to Burn for Me and as Smoke and "Whiskey" do meet up, they can't stay away from each other even though they keep telling each other they should. When Lilly is threatened, Smoke is there, but she is in denial as to who could be doing it. They book draws you in, but you will have to wait for the next book as it does end with the dreaded cliffhanger.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book I could not put it down once I started to read it. Smoke and whiskey make a hot steamy couple. The intimate scenes are HOT have a cold drink ready near by. Whiskey fights the connection while smoke knows exactly what he wants. There are twists and turns and suspense. Olivia knows how to keep you engaged in the plot of the story. It’s ends on a cliffhanger. I’m excited to see the next part in this story!

This was a bit different and I loved it.
Olivia does write awesome hot books.
This was about Zack aka Smoke and Lillian aka Whiskey.
I like how they meet and Smoke says to her, if fate brings them together again then she can't get away again. They leave thinking that won't happen but it does. I loved it. Whiskey is going through a divorce after 10 yrs and Smoke has been there and done that. He wasn't looking for anything serious. But these two burn from the word go and struggle to fight it. But Whiskey's ex isn't playing fair. Eventually certain events happen for things to get very bad. Now need to read next book to see how it ends!!
Must read to find out if they make it.
By the way it is a cliffhanger and not Standalone. I loved Smoke and his Alpha ways.
Definitely recommend

This was a wonderful story. Lilli and Zack meet while she's processing the divorce from a horribly abusive ex-husband. Their chemistry is palpable. Despite being in a new city to make a new start for herself and having a job, disaster strikes when his apartment is completely destroyed. Although Zack insists that you come to his house so she can still have shelter. How things go between them and if the feelings can grow into more, you'll have to find out for yourself, oh and what I didn't see coming is that it ends in a Cliffhanger, but that doesn't matter can hardly wait for the next part comes.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.

Lilly/Whiskey (h) has a new job in a new town as she rebuilds her life after her divorce from her ex, Wade. She meets Zack/Smoke (H) briefly at a bar and there's attraction, but the timing isn't right. It turns out that she's the new employee at his company and the two begin a push-pull relationship with one another. It takes a bit for their heat level to get fiery, but when it does, it's hot. Unfortunately for Zack, Lilly isn't ready for a new man to be in control of her life. But Lilly's past isn't finished with her and there are dangers ahead. The story took a bit to build but when it did, it was good, and things moved with plenty of passion and drama. Whew, what a cliffhanger - can't wait for the second part of this duet.

Great story but it ends with a cliffhanger.

Talk about an emotional story!

Lillian (Lilly) Rouse has found a job and moved to a new city after her husband filed for divorce. Wade was never much of an example of a man and certainly not a husband. For 10 years he's been putting her down, telling her that if she was better in bed he wouldn't have to have affairs or hire prostitutes. It's her own fault that she got 3 STDs... If only she was better in bed, things would be good.

Lilly is a people pleaser. She was raised to believe that if she'd make others happy, then she'd find her  happiness. She's a doormat around Wade. Because he's not physically abusive to her, she doesn't really see his mental abuse of her as abuse. But, there was the time he destroyed her craft room because she was planning on a trip with her friends, including the wife of one of his coworkers. She's to stay at home and take care of him and the house. No job or school for her!

Zake Smoker, AKA Smoke, is a former firefighter. There was an incident at a bad house fire where he fell through a floor and broke both legs and his back. It was touch and go whether he'd ever be able to walk again. He recovered but was no longer able to fight fires. So he and friends, Lydia and Brad, started Smoker Technical Industries, STI, that manufacturers and sells fire suppression systems.

Zach and Lilly meet at a bar one night when he's there for a business dinner and she's meeting a friend for dinner. There's an instant attraction but no names were exchanged, other than he's Smoke and he nicknames her Whiskey for her whiskey colored eyes.

Only later do they realize that she's Lydia's new assistant and although she's not his assistant, he's still a boss and company owner.

Despite her desire not to become involved with him and Lydia threatening him to stay away from her, they become involved. When someone breaks into her apartment, Smoke takes over. But she's finding her backbone, to his dismay at times!

This does end on a cliffhanger so be forewarned. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the loose ends will be tied up.

Big dog to the rescue.
Awesome book. Smoke is having a drink at the bar while waiting for clients to arrive when a woman sits down next to him. They start talking and he feels the electricity flowing between them. “Whiskey “ is stunned by the attraction that she feels towards the stranger. She can’t believe what he says as he leaves about fate bringing them back together. Fate does exactly that she discovers the next day when she starts her new job. Smoke is one of the owners of the company. He knows she’s going through a divorce but, she says that they can’t be together because she works for him so he gives her space although, Smoke has no intentions of giving up the pursuit. One day they have lunch together and “Whiskey “ tells him about her ex and he is angry at the way he treated her and has her convinced that she is intimately boring. The ex controlled her every move. When her apartment is broken into and completely destroyed he takes her to stay with him. “Whiskey “ has a couple days to adjust while Smoke is on a business trip and she misses him badly. When he returns they give in to their passions. Smoke comes home from work to find a note that she has gone back to her apartment and he heads there to bring her back because he knows she’s not safe there. She refuses to leave, though. He ends up staying on the couch unwilling to let her stay alone since he believes that her ex was responsible for the break-in. During the night they end up in her bed and Smoke thinks everything will work out. In the morning as they talk “Whiskey “ still refuses to leave her apartment and kicks him out. When he gets to work his partner tells him she needs him to take her place on a business trip. He agrees to go convinced some time apart will be good for he and “Whiskey “. The night he gets back he gets a call from a police officer friend who handed things at her place and learns she’s at the hospital in bad shape. Smoke tells him he’s on his way. What happened to “Whiskey”?.

This was a quick and fun read. The story moved nicely and the sexy scenes were done beautifuly.

What I didn't like is Whiskey mentioning her ex-husband in every sentence. I get it that after being with someone for 10 years, it is hard not to think of that relationship, but it was getting anoying to be honest. It was Wade this, Wade that..like, WOMAN he is an ass and he was a cheater and a dusche, GET OVER HIM ALREADY!! And she was making herself so small because of him. Naaah, we can't have that!!!

Trust me I get it. I have been in some shitty relationships but guuurl get it together. And I know this is "just a book" but I had to put that out there because I know women like her exist in real life and I would rather die than let a man act like Wade towards me.

Overall, I am glad she met Smoke. He is EXACTLY what she needed in her life to wake up and become a badass, and I hope we get to see that in the second part of the duet. Also, the fact that dog saved her in the end of the book...I just love that.

This is a really well written and entertaining story. The characters are likable and easy to connect to, and the overall story is wonderfully exciting and fun to real. I’m glad I came across this book.

5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.

4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.

3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.

2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.

1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.
