He swore he would always protect me, that he would take my darkest secret to the grave. But I’m starting to think he hasn’t told me his…

My husband and I are the dream couple: deeply in love, the envy of all our friends and neighbours. He surprises me with flowers, I make him his favourite meals and prepare picnics to enjoy with our son. It’s little gestures like this that keep our romance alive.

But nobody knows how frightened I am at night. Oliver promises he’ll keep me safe, but I can’t stop feeling like someone from my past is watching me. Coming for me. I could have sworn I saw someone watching me through the window, lurking in the shadows across the street. As I triple check that the doors are locked, and kiss my son goodnight, I’m terrified that someone knows my unspeakable secret, and that soon everything I love will be taken away…

And when my husband comes home with blood on his hands on the same night our neighbour goes missing, I realise I am not the only one hiding a terrible secret.

We are both lying. But when the truth finally comes to light, who will survive?

Never judge a book by its cover.

I loved this book's cover but I did love the book.

Not even a little bit.

Perhaps my expectations were elevated by the book's glowing reviews (did everyone listen to the same book that I did?), but this book was a total "miss" for me.

It was a domestic thriller that lacked thrills.

Quite frankly, I felt like I was listening to a bizarre episode of the Jerry Springer show.

I usually enjoy books with candid portrayals of dysfunctional families -- but not THIS dysfunctional.

I lost count of the number of times I cringed and said "This would NEVER happen in real life, not even on the Jerry Springer show."

I listened to the audiobook and narrator Tanya Elby did a superb job with the narration.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC for an honest review.

Oliver and Tess have fled with their disabled son Mason after a really big event took place were Tess use to be Mason's Nanny and working for Oliver's brother. Sounds confusing? Not really, the writing of this book really breaks it down nicely. The flow of how this story presents with dual timelines really brought it to life. Oliver has sacrificed everything to keep Tess and Mason safe, while Tess has made her own sacrifices to make sure Mason stays safe.

I did feel at times like I wanted to shake Tess, just open your eyes woman and do the right thing! There are some really creepy factors, someone lurking around the house and at times even in the house. It really brings that mystery and thriller aspects to the table. You keep playing the guessing game and then when it comes together your astounded by the sheer brilliance of it. A really enjoyable book with loads of promise.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

Everyone has secrets in this dark, twisted thriller that has the perfect combination of suspense, obsession, betrayal and deception. This tale also proves that revenge is definitely a dish best served cold. The conclusion was surprising with twists I never saw coming. This book has some of the most hateful and despicable characters I have ever read. Their actions were unforgivable and hard to read at times. Trigger warnings include physical and emotional abuse of adults and children. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.

Tess and Oliver are happily married and raising Mason who is just a young boy and in a wheelchair. One day, Tess discovers messages on Oliver's phone from another woman and believes he is cheating on her. She decides to fake a pregnancy in hopes to keep him around. There is so much more going on here but I can't spoil any of it for you! There is a past and present timeline and everything comes to a shocking conclusion.

LIAR LIAR was my first book by L.G. Davis and I loved it! The fast pace and multiple timelines are things I really enjoy. This story was filled with twists and some great revelations, which I did not see coming. All in all it was a great story in my opinion. I would highly recommend this book!

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for L.G. Davis' tense domestic thriller LIAR LIAR.

This is my first outing with L.G. Davis and I wasn't sure what to expect given the relatively average reviews of this book. So going in, they weren't all that high but seriously, I was riveted. This book is so bizarre and filled with such disturbed, bordering on deranged, characters that it was like a car crash from which you can't drag your eyes away from! But I loved it! Yes, seriously! I don't read books for their academic or literary nuances but for the entertainment, the addictive plot and the thrill factor. If it has any or all of these, then I'm happy. And this one had them all.

The title is seriously apt - LIAR LIAR. Because there are so many misdirections and everyone appears to be harbouring secrets and above all, lying. And that cover is breathtaking. Two roses - one white, one red. Also reminiscent of the husband at once point presenting his wife with two roses. Why two? Normally it's a bunch of roses, a dozen maybe...but two? What's the significance there? Maybe the cover reveals the answer in the two different colours, highlighting that it is just the two of them in this together. In what, exactly? Well, you are just going to have to read it to find out!

Tess and Oliver seem like the perfect couple with the perfect marriage, raising their adopted son Mason, who is confined to a wheelchair after an accident left him paralysed. Mason adores Tess and has never hesitated in calling her "Mummy" but with Oliver he is far more reticent. But Tess knows that Mason just needs time to adjust to their new life and that Oliver is there to take care of them both.

When Tess discovers text messages on Oliver's phone from another woman, she is devastated. After all they have been through, he is having an affair. She confides in her two closest friends, Carmen and Dan, and after some thought decides a baby will bring them closer together and sets out to fall pregnant. When it doesn't happen, she decides to fake a pregnancy until she does or if it comes to it, fake a miscarriage. Tess believes she has it all worked out going to great lengths to save her marriage but nothing will prepare her for what she has unleashed. This is just the beginning.

The story unfolds through past and present chapters, going back three years to when Tess was Mason's nanny for her extremely wealthy and powerful employer, Henry, who was also Oliver's brother. Enticing her into his employment and thus into his bed, Tess was a young naive woman who simply wanted to care for the exuberant Mason. A trail of lies and deception was laid which ended with catastrophic results and Tess, Oliver and Mason beginning a new life far away. But is it far enough?

Following these alternate timelines, the multiple lies along the way build an even bigger castle of secrets and lies that they must live with. But Tess loves her husband and she will do anything to protect Mason. But just when she thought they were safe, Tess starts to feel as if someone is watching her. What if they have found them? And if that's not enough, when they left their lives behind Oliver promised to protect her and take her darkest secret to the grave...but what secret is he keeping from her? Because it soon becomes clear that Tess isn't the only one with a secret...so what is Oliver's?

What a wild ride LIAR LIAR is! I was riveted from the start despite being so tired and thinking I would only be able to manage a few chapters, I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting! It may have been a car crash but I just couldn't stop myself. I had to keep looking...watching...reading. Everyone is quite possibly disturbed or deranged in some mad way but that just made it all the more delicious!

Even though many of the reveals were predictable, who cares? The thrill was in the ride. You get on a rollercoaster knowing how it's going to go, how it's going to end, but you're still flowing with adrenaline by the time you step off. This book is no different. Despite some of its predictability, LIAR LIAR is still an addictive and intriguing domestic thriller you won't want to put down.

And then there was the ending. OMG! How could it stop there? But what a fantastic end that just left you wanting more even though you know it was just perfect as it was.

Don't worry about the deranged characters that may well have stepped off the Jerry Springer set...just jump in, belt up and enjoy the adrenaline-fueled ride.

I would like to thank #LGDavis, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #LiarLiar in exchange for an honest review.

This was not, I repeat, this was not what I was expecting! Having never read this author before but trusting Bookouture I thought I would be in for a good domestic thriller that may possibly have some well placed twists.

What I was not expecting was to lose a whole day, the housework was forgotten, the cat was irritated with the lack of attention, sorry Sootifer, and the only thing the book was put down for was to flick on the kettle.

This has layers and layers of story all revolving around Tess. I can’t tell you what she does or who she is (major spoiler territory) but let’s just say she’s very easy to like and you will be absorbed by her stories.

But and this is a big but, you will need to prepare yourself for not everything/everyone is as it seems. The clues are there but are so cleverly hidden I missed them completely. So when the penny finally dropped and I twigged the stories connections I was completely flabbergasted and had to look back to check.

Yes not all of it seems entirely plausible and there were a few shouty moments at character stupidity but for pure entertainment this book was insanely clever and it wholly encompassed me with its intriguing characters and story.

So if you want a good excuse for not doing the housework or just fancy spending the day in the fictional town of Westledge. Then join the Cherry Lane book club with Tess and her friends and see if you spot the clues that I missed. I really wish I could tell you more but I have had to put a hand over my mouth to stop myself spilling all it’s secrets.

2.5 ⭐️ The last quarter was better than the rest of the book, in my opinion. Tess, I respect her love of Mason, she had her good traits, but there were times when she annoyed the hell out of me

Tess's husband Oliver promises to never reveal her secrets, but slowly Tess can sense that he is losing his focus on her while all he used to do was be extra attentive. Tess suspects that he is having an affair - but why would he do that? And who is the Her in his phone.
The suspense was minimal in this domestic thriller - all in all a good quick listen.
I didn't like Tess's character, she came across as someone really strong initially and suddenly she lost interest on her boy friend and all she wanted to do was be the mother his adopted son never had - why are female characters portrayed this way?

The narration by Tanya Eby was good, but in some parts she really sounded very whiny when the narration was for Tess.

A solid read but I was not blowen away with the ending. It seemed no sense to me, but I guess that is just me. Or maybe I like the two times that the story was told. A disfuncional family, crazy, horrible people. Getting advantage and hurting others was in a way quite a dark listening. But more i went on more was interesting.

Thank you so much Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for your this audio.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Liar Liar' by L.G Davis.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for L.G Davis,

Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 22nd July 2022.

This is the first book I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Anyone who loves Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train and Behind Closed Doors will be utterly gripped.' I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 45 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective and main protagonist is Teas. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and kept me on the edge of my seat. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.

OMG!!! MIND ABSOLUTELY BLOWN!!!!

Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolute page turner!! It may be the first book I have read by L.G Davis but I can promise you it won't be the last!!! As soon as I've written this up I'm off to add all her books to my wishlist. The storyline is absolutely ram packed with mystery, deceit, secrets, lies, romance, tension, suspense and OMG the twists just kept on coming again and again!!! Just when I thought everything that could happen had happened BOOM there was another shocker around the corner. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!! I WAS absolutely blown away and considering I read approximately 30 books a month that is certainly no easy feat so a HUGE congratulations on that L. G . I really could not recommend this book any more. The portrayal of village life is very well written and even though this is a psychological thriller I would love to visit Westledge with its fabulous sounding book club and community spring clean festival!!!! If you are looking for something unique, filled with suspense and that will blow your mind then this is definitely the book for you!!

It is set over/includes multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT READING THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED YOUR SCHEDULES AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!

I wasn't just 100% invested in the storyline but also in the characters. The every one of the characters were well defined, realistic and strong. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to say much at all about them as I don't want to run the risk of giving anything away. I will however say that my heart completely went out to Mason who didn't deserve any of the insults or abuse that he got, some of the things that his so called family said about him was sickening and my heart really went out to him. I will also say that I was absolutely gutted about a certain event especially when it was confirmed at the end. Needless to say they all worked perfectly together to make this page turner as amazing as it is!!!

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to L.G Davis on what promises to be a massive best seller!!! I WAS absolutely shocked by so many explosive reveals!!! Welcome to my favourite author list L.G and here's to your next explosive success 🥂!!!

Overall an absolutely addictive, mind blowing page turner that will keep you up with a racing heart until you've finished!!!

Genres covered in this book include Thriller, Psychological Fiction, Suspense, Thriller, Domestic Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Domestic Thriller and Mystery amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'Gone Girl', 'The Girl on the Train', 'Behind Closed Doors' and anyone looking for an explosive thriller that will just blow your mind!!!

302 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon or free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

The characters in this book aren't particularly likeable, but the plot is engaging. It's a different way to approach the abusive relationship/marriage issue, which is otherwise very predictable. The story is told in two timelines, and both of them are absorbing. 3.5 stars rounded up.

This book captured my attention because of the description on the back cover as well as the attractive front cover. Both of these things have been executed really well. On the other hand, the book did not live up to my expectations. The novel gets off to a strong start and provides quite an exciting ride for the first third of its length. After then, something happens, and the book loses its charm. I didn't find the conclusion to be satisfying either. The way that everything comes together at the end makes it seem very ridiculous in the end. Most of the twists which come in the last portion of the book seemed implausible to me as well. The narrative of the novel takes place in two different time periods, which definitely helps in both moving the story forward and assists in the development of the plot. I enjoy a good domestic thriller with a cast of suspect people, but this one lacked the suspense necessary to keep the reader involved and wanting more.

In a nutshell, the idea behind the book was great, but it was poorly carried out.

I found that the narrator, Tanya Elby, did an excellent job with the narration of the audiobook, which I listened to.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC for an honest review.

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Whew! There was a lot going on in this book and I loved every minute of it!

Tess and Oliver are happily married and are raising their young son, Mason, who is in a wheelchair.
The family has recently relocated to a new town. The family likes to stay to themselves. Tess discovers text messages on Oliver's phone indicating that he is having an affair. Tess goes to great lengths to try to save her marriage, but that storyline is only the beginning.

What devastating secrets are Tess and Oliver hiding?

The book switches from past to present and I was riveted from the beginning. It was a fast read, with plenty of twists along the way. I have never read another book by this author, I would definitely recommend and look forward to more books by L.G. Davis.

Seriously, what the heck did I just read?

I mean, I’m kind of struggling with the rating here. Do I rate this lower because it’s so freaking bizarrely unbelievable? Or do I rate this higher because the popcorn factor is so high??? What’s a girl to do?

And this *is* bizarre. Every single thing that happens is weird. Every character (except for a little boy) is weird and wrong and needs a permanent role in some trashy TV talk show. When it comes to the plot, the author throws in everything but the kitchen sink – and then throws that in for good measure! I am honestly impressed by the author’s willingness to go all out, logic be damned.

I finally decided on four stars because the popcorn was magnificent. But do NOT expect logic or anything at all that makes sense. Just put your brain on vacation and enjoy the very odd ride.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book

liar liar, what an apt title for a book with so many mis directions and liars...everybody lies...

tess's world changes when she is employed to look after mason a boy that needs someone to love him...... and as she falls madly in love with mason she would do anything to protect him...even from his father....

its a disturbing read seeing how a family can disintergrate and the power plays that happen but on the whole this book keeps you reading as you want to see what else can happen and let me tell you a lot can happen...

with a missing neighbour and mysterious person invading a home its a worrying time for tess

on the whole i enjoyed reading this book, and the twist at the end sends shivers down your spine...well worth keeping an eye out for more of this authors works

Secrets from the past and deceit have the upper hand in L.G. Davis's novel, Liar Liar. Meet Oliver, Tess and their disabled son, Mason, who have recently relocated to another town. Tess suspects that Oliver is having an affair - is someone watching them from the shadows?

This is an exceptionally suspenseful, riveting tale that oscillates between past and present but what are the truths and lies? Creepy, fast-paced and full of twists, I hoped I would be able to complete it before sunrise as it was so enthralling. I'm sure that Liar Liar with its unpredictable conclusion will appeal to many.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

What a book this was, I literally couldn't put it down. It's a definite contender for my favourite psychological thriller of the year so far too.

The plot was gripping, fast paced, with multiple timelines and an absolute shocker of an ending!

Cleverly written with some credible, well developed characters, some were likeable and some were despicable. How vile were Lisa and Henry? My heart went out to Mason, he was the innocent in all of this, yet his father could never accept him for what his new wife had made him become.

Highly engaging, compelling and everything good and definitely one I'd recommend.

Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.

This is actually the first book I have read by this author but it definitely won't be the last. The story-line was interesting and really kept me guessing. I ended up reading it late into the night and although I am bleary eyed this morning it was definitely worth it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of psychological suspense with an ending you will NOT see coming. It really did have quite the twist.

Thank you Netgalley for the audio copy in exchange for a honest review. Tess and Oliver are married and live with their wheelchair bound son Mason. Tess finds messages on Oliver's phone from another woman and takes drastic measures to save her marriage. It soon becomes clear they have dark secrets they are trying to escape from. A cleverly written thriller.

This was a powerhouse of a domestic psychological thriller. I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. An absolute page turner.

While the substance wasn’t deep and the characters were all a little flighty—I still enjoyed the fast pace, twists and turns. I love everything L.G. Davis puts out for these exact reasons, she always writes a good twisted tale!

I really struggled with this rating, not sure how to rate it. It was addictive but so far fetched and some plot holes that just were tied up without any closure. However on the otherside it really was addictive and I really did want to know what had happened especially to Mason and Dan.

So take it on face value and it is worth a listen. The narration was interesting but I got used to it

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

This book was great from beginning to the end. Twists and turns and some very unexpected moments. I would read more from this author.

Just average for me. A simple thriller that delivered as expected - 3.5* rounded down, just because a lot of the dialogue was written awkwardly and it dragged me out of the moment every time I thought "no one speaks like this...", which was a little too frequently. Still good for a turn-your-brain-off poolside read :)
