The Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate is the third book in the Time Hunters saga.
It’s Christmas time and Becky and Joe Mellor have returned to Bowen Hall to attend the annual GITT Christmas Party – ‘The Enchantment Beneath the Sea Dance.’ However, when the party comes to a sudden, terrifying end, they are pitched into a quest for the all-powerful Spear of Fate.
So begins an electrifying adventure that leads Becky, Joe, Uncle Percy and Will to the depths of the Indian Ocean, the peaks of the Himalayas and the deserts of Ancient Egypt - battling Mummies, Yetis, and a villain that Uncle Percy describes as ‘the vilest monster to have ever walked the earth…’
The clock ticks on.
There are seven books so far in the Time Hunters ‘The Time Hunters’, ‘The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity', 'The Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate', 'The Time Hunters and the Sword of Ages', 'The Time Hunters and the Lost City', 'The Time Hunters and the Wraith's Revenge' and 'The Time Hunters and the Odin Horn.'
I'm a children's writer from Cheshire in England. 'The Time Hunters' is my first novel. The series continues with 'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity', 'The Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate', 'The Time Hunters and the Sword of Ages' and 'The Time Hunters and the Lost City'.
I have also completed two non-Time Hunters novels - 'The Night they Nicked Saint Nick' and 'Bernard and the Bibble.'
I am currently working on the first book in another series for children - 'Zak Fisher and the Angel Prophecy'.
I like alternative music, Marvel comics, Naan breads and coriander. I am rubbish at fixing stuff.
Carl Ashmore has done it again. In this third book of the Time Hunters series, Carl has created another fantastic adventure filled with action, intrigue, and a coterie of captivating characters. "Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate" introduces us to several of Uncle Percy's fellow time travelers as well as a new and very nasty villain. We also see the return of some old favorites, including one of my favorite characters from Book One (Edgar the Minotaur) who returns to play a pivotal role in this adventure.
In this third installment, Uncle Percy learns that his nemesis is after another of the five Eden Relics. As with the first two relics, our heroes attempt to find it first and prevent Emerson Drake and his evil entourage from getting their hands on it. Their search leads them to the lost city of Atlantis as well as Ancient Egypt. Joining their Uncle Percy once again are Becky and Joe Mellor. Although still teenagers, the Mellor children are growing up fast and they become much more involved in the action (and danger) that their latest quest brings.
Perhaps the thing I love best about the Time Hunter series is the way the author incorporates historical characters, locations and events within the story. I find myself googling these facts to see which ones are based in reality and which are fictional. More often than not, they are fact. For example, I had never heard of Aribert Heim. So naturally I went to the internet to see if this person (also known as Dr. Death) actually existed... and he did. Yet the author incorporates him into the book in such a way that you actually believe this could have been part of his untold life story.
Anyway, if you haven't read any of the Time Hunters books... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!? These books are so entertaining, and such an easy read. If you love young adult fiction, page-turning adventure and/or time travel, you will love this series.
The book cover originally interested me to this series when i saw it on recommended books. Then I saw the high reviews and thought I gave it a shot. The first book I couldn't really get into the story. The second I enjoyed and this one is even better.
Some of the comments just made me laugh.... Like the comment Edgar comment on soiling his pants when he saw the Sphinx or the bit where there turbo-charge the bus ride..
I will be looking forward to book 4 (The Sword of Ages)... By the title i think it will focused on Arthurian Legend (King Arthur) everyone knows of the tale of Excalibur and it would fit into the story line.. So yeah i be waiting for that book.
I wonder is Nefertiti will be seen again? I mean she is the Queen that vanished without a trace later in life..
This third instalment in the Time Hunters series is just as fantastic as the first two. I get sucked into the story from the first page. This story takes us on an amazing adventure that sees the time travellers in the Himalayas before heading to Ancient Egypt! The baddies are as bad as ever and you find yourself routing for the good guys in what seems like an impossible situation. One of the things I love about these series are the historical events, myths and legends woven into the storyline. Please keep them coming Carl Ashmore, I cannot wait for book 4 :-)
Another surprising and really interesting book in the series of The Time Hunters! Carl Ashmore know very well how to keep the suspense and the characters developing very well in this aerie! Since the first book I keep getting more and more interesting and I will read the next one for sure! Real fun way to discover more of the past history with this writer!! Thanks again to the author and please keep more to come!
Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate is the third book in the Time Hunters series. This time the adventure takes them to Egypt and I was delighted that Edgar (from book 1) came along for the trip too. As always the writing is great, and you just don’t want the book to end – highly recommended for both children and adults. Looking forward to Book 4!
This is the third book in the series and Carl Ashmore has fulfilled expectations yet again. Lovely to meet up with Edgar again as well as other old friends at Bowen Hall. We travel to Egypt this time and parts are quite spine chilling. Excellent story and entwined very well with history and mythology. Like many others I look forward to Carl's next book.
Marvellous time travel adventures, too good for only children to read! I am 62 and thoroughly enjoying them. The characters get more 'living' with every book. Next one coming up!
GREAT late elementary / middle grade book. I thoroughly enjoyed this time travel series in its entirety. Likable characters who develop over time, smart plot, unique premise, and just plain fun. Themes of bravery, loyalty, and standing up for what's right are heavily emphasized. I also appreciated the strong (though not perfect) relationship between a brother and sister. Also, instead of creating a whole new word to enjoy, the book encourages you to appreciate the incredible history, man-made and natural sites, and the achievements of the world we already live in.
Great book,Very imaginative use of historical information. Exciting and gentle at the same time. We still have family story time for our 8yr old son, a tradition we started with our other children now grown up. I've given it a five because it's led to us actually looking up characters and facts & had our teenage daughter listen to a couple chapters. Recommend it to families who like to read together.
Time travelers with all the neat gadgets trying to keep the bad people like Hitler and his minions from gathering magical weapons and all the magical creatures from Atlantis etc and saving the world as we know it. Scary and wonderful and even with answers to several mysteries of the past, Truly a Good Read! I will not give spoilers!
This novel deserves the 5 star rating that I gave because of the continuous plot twists that keep occurring. The other added bonus to this box set is the references to real life events throughout history. Even if you don't know the stories, these people and events can be researched.
I am loving this series. Its is one of those that you cant wait to start the next to see where the adventure takes them . In my opinion this was the best I have read so far in the series . Love the way that Mr Ashmore challenges the norm . cant wait to start the next adventure .
Yea there are a few typos and many of the suspenseful scenes are predictable, but . . . The story is flipping fun. Just let the story flow and it is worth the trip.
Further timely adventures of Becky and Joe with brilliant Uncle Percy! Edgar the Minotaur, Will from Sherwood Forest, and The man from the Wild West join their little family to save to Spear of Fate from evil time lords who would change the world’s history. Layla, the future queen of Egypt, and her pet, Adme help them keep on the straight and narrow true history in their flying RV…..
Book three takes us to Egypt with lots more twists and turns and goodbyes to new friends and old.I do hope the dad gets found soon, it feels odd they are not out looking I know they have left it to the others but still.
Loving the story through this series amd watching Becky and Joe develop, especially their relationships with Uncle Percy and Will just wish we saw more of their mum and im very eager to see where the story goes in regards to their dad especially after the ending of this book
Loved this book all of it from the story, the characters, the action and most of all the imagination. No filthy language. Building of good values and character. The good guys win !
And so the goodies win again. I'm giving away the ending, come on, it's a children's book. However, the plot did feel to drag a wee bit in this one and the ending was pretty much formulaic; the epilogue was certainly different though, but don't you care read that before the beginning! 😎😎😎
This is the third book I have read in the series. This time they have to help an old friend, beware of old enemies, and the kids enter a new area and make new friends. Another exciting read.
In this third outing in Uncle Percy’s Time Machines, the wonderfully observed Becky and Joe take a trip to Egypt. They find that the evil Time Traveller Emerson Drake has been working with a doctor from wartime Germany. Evil piles upon evil, and just a few good people stand in its way. They search for the Spear of Fate with the help of Will and Edgar the Minotaur and have to solve a couple of puzzles on the way. This story is darker and includes the presence of a truly evil man. One might almost say, you couldn’t make him up. Sadly, you needn’t.
Carl Ashmore doesn’t duck the hard events in history and his stories are all the more real for that. The children, too, are a delight; even, perhaps especially, when they act as typical teenagers and strop at one another. As always, there are some very funny moments in this book, partly consisting of the banter between the children and partly the comments of their long-suffering Uncle Percy. There’s plenty of action, one or two unexpected meetings and for Becky, a real ‘Ahh’ moment towards the end. I won’t spoil it for you, but you’ll know it when you read it. It’s great to discover at last, the cause of ‘the Sphinx’s inscrutable smile!’ Altogether, this is another brilliant Ashmore Special.
This is the third in the Time Hunters series of books. Like the first two, this is the tale of another adventure that Becky and Joe have with their Uncle Percy and his time travelling community.
For this story, they travel to ancient Egypt and have to find the Spear of Fate, in order to hid it from the evil Emerson Drake.
Yet again, Carl Ashmore has written a really enjoyable, fun story. With the writing, he treats children as intelligent people, rather than writing down to them. There are scary villains, loveable allies and Becky and Joe's characters develop even stronger.
There is a bit of a history lesson in here and I'd imagine that it will make children want to find out a bit more about some of the myths mentioned. I'm sure if I was xx#cough#xx years younger, I'd want to find out more.
My nine year old absolutely loves this series of books, and this one fitted in perfect with his ancient Egyptian education, at the beginning of year five. We've already purchased book four to start tomorrow night!
