I'm in a fake relationship with Hockey's biggest star. His publicist needed someone to help fix his image. And, I needed the money. But, neither of us wanted to do it. After all, he dates models, not physiotherapists. And, I just got divorced and will never, ever, trust a man again.
Colton King isn't exactly likable. As a matter of fact, he's a total a-hole. How is anyone going to believe that we are a couple?
If broody billionaire hockey jocks, plucky heroines, and evil fake sisters-in-law are your jam, you will love The Hockey Royals. Book 1, PUCK KING can be read as part of the series or as a standalone.
this book ascended conventions of plot and pacing and embraced absurdity so thoroughly that it began to mimic non-narrative human life. so maybe it’s actually brilliant?
I couldn't feel for the characters and it was hard to keep reading. Still giving it three stars because the problems weren't really dramatic and they tried to prevent miscommunication (at least, colton did)
hyper speed insta love with poorly developed characters
The premise of this book isn’t bad.
The development is. This book was so rushed it was the book equivalent of speed dating. Shallow insta love - too fast, not believable, and totally and completely unremarkable and unbelievable.
I have NO intention of reading any other books in this series.
RATING SYSTEM: 5 – Absolute love 4 – Enjoyed it 3 – I liked it… mostly 2 – Forced myself to finish, but at least I finished 1 – Couldn’t finish it
Moments: My highlighting system involves highlighting scenes I enjoy, find funny, and things that make me go “aw”. This book had 3 moments I found funny, and 1 that I kind of enjoyed.
What I Liked: Fully dual POV for the main characters. I do like being able to see the thought process of both, not that I liked either of these characters. FMC’s feelings about the divorce and cheating on her husband’s part were realistic. There wasn’t really any miscommunication.
What I disliked:
Notes: Characters: Colton (MMC) was… okay. He didn't seem good or bad. Both went from 0-100 when it came to each other. Ali (FMC) made assumptions like they were going out of style. It was annoying. Everleigh (Colton's sister - next book's FMC) was terrible, she didn't captivate me at all and I don't care for her story.
Plot/Story: The premise itself is fun, and I have read and enjoyed fake relationships before. Fake relationships give you a fun way to build up the romance between characters and have them get to know each other. This book did not take advantage of that.
Romance: Unrealistic on Colton's part, rebound on Ali's part. Based on this timeline, from what I could tell because it’s confusing, they fall in love after two weeks.
General: There were a couple of errors. Extra quotation marks, missing periods, wrong names. Their JAWS blush. Said cock 5 times in like 3 pages. Apparently, had five orgasms. Feels a little dramatic.
I felt really bad for Alison when she found her husband cheating on her at their physio practice. I was proud of het for leaving and filing for divorce and her friend Hollie leaving with her. Colton, he was a piece of work who thought that even though he worked hard to be good at Hockey, he was God's gift to women. When he broke things off with his ex Brittney and she accused him of cheating, he thought the paparazzi was going to go away and was only bothering him. He didn't give a thought to how it was affecting his teammates. His father owned the team The Thunder, which Colton played, and decided to shake thing's up by making big changes. One of those changes was to fire all of upper management and put Everleigh, his daughter, in as General Manager. Everleigh decided to fix Colton's PR nightmare by setting him up with Alison in a fake relationship, she would also act as his Physio. Colton at first refused to allow her to work on him as his physio, because he didn't believe a woman could have the strength that a man could to work his muscles. Everleigh challenged him that if she could work him over and do the job, he had to meet in her office the next morning. That was when she proposed the idea of a fake relationship, with pre planned dates all mapped out over six months. Can Colton and Ali reform his bad boy reputation, convince the paparazzi that he's settling down? Can they keep it professional? What happens if they cross the line? Could Ali be the right woman for him? I loved this book with the different dates, some of the twists. Of course Everleigh and her underhanded ways. I can't wait to find out what she's hiding. A.J. Wynter was able to keep me turning the page wanting to see what was going to happen next.
Fake engagement turns real but, oh my, the journey to their HEA is perfect! How does this author do it? She writes the most engaging books with such apparent ease. I could not stop reading this story; I was captivated from page one. The storyline was pretty obvious, but the climactic moment was a bit of a surprise to me. Truly worth the reading. Colton King is a 27yo ice hockey captain of his family’s team, the Thunder. He’s a king in the rink without the family thing. Until now. His former girlfriend is calling him a cheater to any publication that will print it. Unfortunately, it’s affecting the whole team. At this rate, there won’t even be a chance to get into the playoffs. They need things to turnaround. His sister Everleigh has a plan. Enter Alison Moffat Parson Moffat. Her husband was caught cheating on Alison so she has left him, taken back her maiden name, and has gone out on her own having left their shared physical therapy practice. Alison is an almost 29yo “farm strong” woman who stands close to six feet and is strong enough to make even the toughest physio case realize she has what it takes. Everleigh offers Alison a job as physiotherapist for the Thunder with a side gig as fake fiancée to Colton. Everleigh sees Alison as a total non-problem where her brother is concerned. He would never fall for Alison. Right?! There are financial problems for Alison that will play a major part of this story and will anger you when you get to a certain part of this book. I. Loved. It. I enjoy how the author can take a character on first appearance seem so unlikeable and turn him/her into somebody else. You’ll see if you like great storytelling with a very satisfying ending. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. I’ve already bought ICE QUEEN, the next book. I cannot wait…And how about that cover?!
This book is the first one in her new series and we have a lot of characters to catch up with so it's quite a whirlwind. I like that A.J. Wynter includes Laketown Hockeys in the book because I love that series so much.
Okay, here is my first thought when I started reading the book... Colton King is an as**hole and I'm not impressed with his attitude when he first meets Alison. But as the story's processed and Colton and Alison have a chance to get to know each other, my feeling feels better and I enjoy reading the book while my hatred is turned towards Colton's sister instead. Surely the King family is a fu** up one but luckily Colton is so lucky to meet Alison and falls in love with her.
The story is intense and angsty because Alison has her own issue as well. I totally understand her fear and Colton's sister likes to throw a match into the fire (I hate her for it seriously.) Luckily I also find a few things that make me smile and Colton and Alison's chemistry is oh-so-hot I think their encounters are steamier than previous books of A.J. Wynter and I like it.
If you love a cocky hockey player combined with fake relationship, gossips, and evil sister, this book is definitely for you. Gosh, I still want to give stink eyes to Colton's sister even if I've finished reading it for 2 days now.
•Dual POV •Stand-alone, but book #1 in Hockey Royals
This book was so cute! 😍
Alison recently learns her husband is cheating on her and leaves the practice they work at together. Alison is a physiotherapist and needs a new job and finds herself a job hired to be one of the therapists for the New York Thunder, the hockey team. Colton King is the captain of the hockey team, but recently finds himself in all the tabloids as his ex-girlfriend is claiming he cheated on her. To revamp his image, Colton’s sister decides to have him and Alison go into a fake relationship. Alison agrees because she needs the money to help her family’s ranch. What starts off as a fake relationship, turns into something very real. They realize how compatible they truly are and start to fall for one another. But what happens when Colton’s sister mettles her way into their relationship and causes drama?
I loved how even though they may have opposites in many ways, they were so compatible that they couldn’t deny their feelings for one another. While at points in this book you can’t stand Colton’s sister Everleigh, you come to realize her motives and see she really does have a soft side! I’m looking forward to reading her book next, Ice Queen! 😍
A new hockey series starring Colton King as team captain with a playboy reputation with the puck bunnies. Alison is hired as their team's physiotherapist. His sister, Everleigh, has a great plan for the paparazzi to stop harassing Colton & the hockey team by distracting them with a realistic but fake relationship between Colton & Alison. While they pretend to take things slow, they peel back the layers of secrecy between them & learn that their first impressions were wrong. They actually fast-track from fake to real & that's when Everleigh's great plan falls apart. Can Colton & Alison cinch the HEA they are seeking for or will his sister be successful in crushing their real feelings towards each other? This has been a really good story to read & is a great start to the Hockey Royals series.
My curiosity is peaked with the secrecy of Everleigh & this mysterious man that has discovered the softer side of her. I'm looking forward in reading her story & finding out who this guy is to melt the Ice Queen.
I volunteered to read this ARC & leave an honest review.
Being new to Ms.Wynter's work i've been looking so forward to picking up her books! As soon as i found out about this one i knew i had to read it first. I picked it up and got into the Hockey Royals world! I so enjoyed this story!
Colton and Alison's journey captured my attention right from the get go! Alison is a physiotherapist and currently going through a divorce. Colton is a hockey player and the press won't leave him alone. Alison is brought into Colton's life to help, can they handle fake dating?
I really liked the different way Colton and Alison were brought into each other's lives. I wasn't sure how they'd tackle dating, certain things in their lives, and especially their feelings. There was such strength to Alison. The chemistry between Colton and Alison was great!
It was fun getting into the Hockey Royals world for the first time!
With Puck King, Ms.Wynter has created such a good and entertaining read! I can't wait to pick up Everleigh's book, Ice Queen next!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wordsmith Publicity / the author*
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and I'm thrilled to review it.
This is a new series that is sure to 'SHOOT and SCORE' big with Sports Romance fans. :)
This wonderful series opener introduces us to Colton King; the Captain of a professional hockey team who is not only extremely skilled on the ice, but is also breathtakingly HOT and SEXY with a side of COCKY. Alison Moffat is a newly single physiotherapist who is trying to rebuild her life after discovering her husband cheated on her.
This unlikely pair, who seem to have an instant distaste for one another, soon find themselves in the midst of a 'fake-dating romance'. Colton's tarnished reputation has cost him and the team dearly and it's time to make things right, and it appears Alison is the girl for the job. It's an emotional ride as Alison and Colton try to give the paparazzi exactly what they're looking for. But what's really going on behind the scenes? Is it all just an act when the two are alone together, without the cameras?! Colton and Alison soon discover that first impressions are not always what they appear to be.
Charming, Witty, Cinderella-esk… but who saves who?
Colton and Ali come from two completely different worlds… even beyond hockey. Colton comes from this pretentious Hockey royal family with a ton of money, privilege, and power. Whereas Alison is from a farming struggling middle class family with a divorce situation looming and a lack of money to support her.
Through a bit of finagling and a contract Colton’s reputation needs to change and Ali is in desperate need to support her family a deal is created and a fake relationship follows. But ultimately their chemistry and relationship takes a more realistic reality and that is threatened. This books has ups, downs, twist and turns but it’s the belief in the truth, familia obligations and the connection these two built that brings it all together.
Colton was the King of hockey and he knew it! He has a attitude that he can get anything he wants. His sister in the new manager of the team that their father owns and wants to get his image leaned up as it’s affecting the the other team members. Allison is a physiotherapist and caught her husband cheating in their business. She got a divorce and walkway. She’s gets hired to be the team physiotherapist and his sister decides to hire her to be in a fake relationship with Colton for his image. He balks at first but goes aLong with it. He doesn’t think she can be a good physiotherapist until she works on him. Can they get along for the time they need to be in a fake relationship? Will their feelings change? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Oh sure she does the "right thing" when caught out but thats because she controls people around her, buying their loyalty.
She violated and abused that contract and pretended it was acceptable.
How misogynistic of her to assume that the heroine wanting paid, paid, not given money, paid, made her a gold digger.
But its alright, she gets to feel Communal Narcissism in how she "fixed" the problem, I.E. be seen "being nice" when the money she spends is less than any of us spending a Penny of our wages.
Its ok to treat people like cattle though.
Wow this Emotional woman is apparently an "Ice Queen" in the next one. Uhm ok, cold is not what she is, she is manipulative.
Sorry shes rich and white "misunderstood" wink wink.
This was my first arc ever and the first book I’ve read by AJ. It did not disappoint!!!! Colton is a HOT hockey player🦋 Alison’s a strong heroine who has just got divorced. When the two main characters first meet they instantly dislike one another. But when Colton’s sister proposes a deal in which Alison gets a job and has to fake date Colton, things change. Neither of them wants to but, she needs the money and he needs to fix his image. The more they get to know each other the more they realise maybe they don’t hate one another. This was such a fun, quick read I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK I think I know who the hero is going to be ;) I will be reading more of AJs books!!!!
Puck King by A.J Wynter is an interesting, steamy with enough drama and entertaiment.this is fake romance/hockey romance story of Colton and Alison..Colton is a billionaire hockey star and the son who owned the team and having an image problem who needs to be address soon and Alison is a PT and a divorceè from her cheating/A-hole ex..when the GM of the hockey team proposition her to be Colton fake Fiance/Hockey team PT she will get the PT contract plus money for her own PT clinic and also to pay her parents morgage but what happened when they crossed the line and all get muddy and the man you fall for is only fake after all?
Colton and Alison burn up the pages in tis steamy sports romance. When Colton's girlfriend accuses him of cheating his sister who is the GM sets him up with a woman that will help clean up a new love interest in an attempt to take the spotlight off the team and Colton. What starts out as a fake relationship turns into anything but along with chaos! This story had me all caught up in it and I was in Colton's and Alison's corner all the way! I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
Making It Real - This was a fantastic story, that had highs and lows, drama, a betrayal, lies, manipulation, media circus, steamy sexual encounters and a happy ending, that will fill your heart with joy. I really enjoyed reading this book and stayed up until the early hours of the morning to finish reading it. I found it difficult to stop reading once I started and it left me looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
A whole new series to fall in love with. Readers of the Laketown Hokey series will find some nice cameo's but new readers can jump in without feeling lost. I love how we started off with a nice second chance. There's a bit of redemption and we start off strong with a misunderstanding a a guy that's a big ass. Thankfully he didn't stay that way throughout or else it would have been an insufferable read.
I enjoyed how we got introduced to a bunch of characters all at once and now we get to dive in and explore them was the series progresses. Great series start!
Book one in the Hockey Royals series, things start off with damage control. Colton King is not just a pro hockey player, he is the whole package but he is currently going through a bad, public breakup. Alison Moffat shows up for a shift and finds her world crumbling apart. Second chances are all around us but what if peoples paths are meant to cross? Even a fake arrangement can bring two people together, fate is not far behind. I loved the story and getting to know this new batch of characters. I am curious about the male in Everleigh's bathroom. I cannot wait for more, enjoy!
After discovering the hard way that not all press is good press, Colton and his team are in a slump. When the newly appointed GM, his older sister meddles in his personal life with a fake relationship contract, Colton isn’t sure how he can survive the contract … but when the fake relationship turns real, Colton and Ali face some difficult choices …
A fake relationship sports romance that will have you hooked from the beginning, this is a solid start to what promises to be a great new series by A. J. Wynter.
This is the first book I've ever read by A. J. Wynter, and I loved it! I've read so many new-to-me authors this year, and I feel like I've hit another jackpot in this one!
This is a fake relationship romance, which is one of my favorite tropes, so I was all in. Colton and Alison's relationship progressed so naturally, and the story was so realistic/believable, it was easy for me to be really invested from the very beginning. I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series, Ice Queen, but in the meantime, this one is highly recommended with more than five stars!
Colton King, captain of the New York Thunder hockey team, needs for the tabloids to leave him and his teammates alone. His sister, as the new GM, decides he needs a new love interest and sets it up. Unfortunately for everybody involved, the fake arrangement turns real all too soon and havoc ensues. Great book with a wonderful HEA. Ms Wynter delivers another top-notch winner. I highly recommend reading this book.
Fantastic, action packed new series from this wonderful author. I love reading these books from Ms Wynter , she is a great wordsmith and has such an easy way with her stories. This Puck king is a continuation in a way of her last series and has a few of the characters from that series too, visitors to the Thunders hockey team. Great characters in this one I can’t wait to see where she takes them.
I received an arc of this book and this is my honest review. Colton has a lot of people constantly watching but there are certain things he would never do. Allison has most of what she’s always wanted until it all falls apart. These two find out that not everything is exactly what you thought, read, or heard it was but unfortunately they have to experience the bad as well.
I received this book as a arc member. I couldn’t put this book down . A hockey player that his girlfriend accuses him of cheating and a women that is a physiotherapist ends up working together and trying to clean up his reputation . Such a page turner . You will love how well this author continued the lake town Jake mcmagnus otters owner with this story . Way better then 5 stars .
I read this as part of ARC. AJ has written another amazing book! This is a new hockey family that is protective of each other even if it goes a little overboard. Watch if it works out!? There is even a Jake McManus sighting in this too! This was a great start to a new series! I can't wait to see what's next!!
This was a good fake relationship romance. I liked the characters and was sucked into their story. The author downplays the fact that Alison is technically only separated, not divorced from her husband, when her relationship with Colton develops, so some readers might take issue with that.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I'm a massive fan of A.J Wynter's hockey romances and Puck King did not disappoint. It was a brilliant fake relationship romance and I loved the introduction to the new characters in this series. I'm looking forward to Everleigh's story and I think I have an idea of which hockey player she is going to be falling for!
