In order to save the man who changed my life, I had to agree to become the pup of a man I despise…
Escaping imprisonment at the hands of the mysterious General Rufus was like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Because in order to save both myself and Ludvig, I had to agree to become Dmitri’s pup.
And Dmitri has plans for me…plans I’m not sure I’m ready for.
As if that weren’t enough, once we reached Good Port, just as I was resigning myself to my fate and joining my friends in their efforts to unravel a spy plot, in walked a man who embodied everything I have always dreamed of, a man I could truly see myself falling for.
In walked Hayk.
Now I’m torn between a promise made to one man and the desire I feel for another. The intrigues and struggles of the new frontier can’t hold a candle to the impossible choices I don’t know how to make. Does love truly conquer all, or is that just a story for children?
The Sons of the Cities is a spinoff series to Peter and the Wolves. It is highly recommended that you read all of the Peter and the Wolves books first.

USA Today Bestselling author Merry Farmer lives in suburban Philadelphia with her two cats, Justine and Peter. She has been writing since she was ten years old and realized she didn't have to wait for the teacher to assign a creative writing project to write something. It was the best day of her life. Her books have reached the top of Amazon's charts, and have been named finalists for several prestigious awards, including the RONE Award for indie romance.
this book gets the chop rating from me because everything was great... except for the romance. my mood turned immediately sour when i realized anton's love story headed another way. no words but pure disappointment. disappointed with how anton and ludvig's unconventional relationship came to an end; disappointed with how wasted dmitri's character was; disappointed with the lack of explosive drama with these characters (the absence of peter and dmitri's scenes is shocking). is it hard to just give and indulge with what your readers wanted? i guess we will never know.
I was surprised to see that this picked up immediately where The Meeting of Four Kingdoms ended. I thought it would go back and see what happened in the eastern forest, but it didn’t. From there they move on to Good Port. So a return of a lot of characters we saw in Lefric. Including Hayk.
I did find this a bit rushed. I was surprisingly ok with Anton and Ludwig’s breakup. This did a good enough job of convincing me they weren’t a good match. And I don’t have a problem with Hayk. Hayk is probably just the kind of person to help Anton loosen up. But it all happened in the course of one day! I have a hard time believing that. I wish it had been a few days at least, or weeks. To help really show us that they are the good match Anton deserves.
The ending of this is not great. Anton and Hayk still have a ways to go before they get their HEA, as they’re both slaves at the end of this. But at least I know Merry always returns to characters and tells us what happened next. Although the next book is about Conrad in the Old Realm. So I’m not sure how much we’ll see the Sons. But hopefully it won’t be too long before we see Anton and Hayk again.
Who would have thought Anton would rise to having a heart and be someone to love... Merry Farmer, that's who. She took a character who was the least favorite and gave him a good love story. Loved having everyone from all groups together. Lots of crazy characters in these books and we love them all.
Really enjoyed! I did see the love affair with the whore a mile away. It just made so much sense. But it was still fun to see Hayk sweep Anton off his feet. It is a sort of perfect irony. And I’m excited that he’ll be with someone who can try to relieve Anton of the shame he carries.

Anton was never my favorite character, but Farmer does an excellent job giving him depth here. The overall "romance" arc of this book is pretty high-speed, but the ending is still satisfying.
I got a little annoyed with the main character at times, the story took some unexpected stories. A good installment in the series and we move on to our next adventure.
