Fun but a lot of fluff
For a new author this was a good story. But there are quite a few things that for me made the story less enjoyable than it could have been. As a concept the story was good, I loved Maddox. Yv was cool but she got annoying a lot. This was a sexy and really romantic second chance multiracial romance. It’s important to not that because the dialect and syntax of the characters reflects that. Overall I thing the author has a lot of potential and I look forward to what’s to come.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Good for a new author

For a debut novel, the author did good. Here is my honest review. I liked Yvanna’s background story and would have enjoyed more there. It was a good storyline, but there was a disconnect for me. For one, I was confused from the beginning. I did not feel the chemistry between the two main characters. This was an insta-love type story which I don’t have an issue with but the prologue being their first ever meetup after just a few weeks or months of online dating ending in Yvanna crying because Maddox left and then to a 3-year gap where they reconnect as if they had some long lost love seemed a bit far fetched in my opinion. Maybe if we had background details to connect or open to their chemistry, I may have been invested.

Also, another layer of confusion was the character/racial ambiguity. I didn’t even know the MMC was white until the description about him having blue eyes. And I know his “possessiveness” was probably supposed to depict this “alpha male” persona or something but I didn’t enjoy it. It just came off arrogant in my opinion. If you have to talk about it so much, are you really that guy?

I think the ingredients and potential is there, but it just fell a bit flat for me. I do plan to read the next book and wonder if I just didn’t like the characters very much or if it the writing style.

this book was was almost a dud for me because i’m not a dark romance girl and i don’t like possessive MCs. for instance, maddox tapping yvana’s phone made me ick. although his love language being physical touch, and the observatory date he planned >>>

oh and the smut was 😙🤌🏾

yvana is a hilarious, quick witted guyanese badass and i love her down. i also love her relationship with sylvia and abeni

vi + alessio are so cute💗🤭. i love an (appropriate) age gap where the woman is older

admittedly, it took me until about the halfway mark to really become invested in this book but once the action started i was *there*

the cliffhanger edged it to 4 stars for me. i’m itching to know what happens next

sidenote: this was the first book i’ve read that is set in a covid ridden world and that threw me off🥴. it wasn’t heavy handed but it still threw me anytime it was brought up

I DNF'd this book.....guys I don't think this author is for me, and that's okay.

I already had an opinion on the writing style from reading the second book first, so I went back to read this first one. I figured maybe I was judging too quickly. But no, I was judging it just enough. The two leads are connecting via texts and long facetimes and other cute digital avenues, but then the day comes for the in person meeting. So miss girl takes FOREVER to get ready, and is hours late. Dude gets up to leave because at this point he's basically been stood up. But the girl gets an attitude because she doesn't understand why he won't wait for her after she showed that she clearly doesn't respect his time. She tried to justify it by saying how she apologized and she just wanted to look good for him, and the way it's written makes me think that we're supposed to go "awww, she's right it's not a big deal...." but, it is though? And then turns out he was leaving right after their meet up, and he'd have limited communication so they couldn't continue whatever this was.

Flash forward three years, and I do mean flash forward. We get nothing but a few lines on how they've been living these past three years, and I wish we would've gotten more insight in how that was going. Because I didn't feel invested in them or their romance when we pick back up. And then when they do meet, the dialogue is kinda cringe. He gets a bit too handsy for me as they redo their first date, and he acts like it's inevitable that they'll get together. But remember at this point, they haven't spoken in three years up to this point and we didn't really get to see their relationship develop before the three year hiatus. So it feels like I'm supposed to be invested, and the way they're all over each other makes me feel like I missed something important. Because no way the chemistry was that high that he can't stand to let the night end.

And he acted like a possessive jerk low key, with her playing not so hard to get. I was getting whiplash from her friends agreeing he sucks to reminding her to invite them to the wedding, and once again this was only the first official date they'd had, since the other didn't go right for multiple reasons. And it was like he was trying to give BDE, but instead it just came off cringe. And she came off hot and cold. Second chance romances are hit or miss, because I need to know the dynamics of why it didn't work and what the couple is doing to fix it. But other than some quickies and acting like they can't get enough of each other, I don't really know what we're doing here. The books are way too long to be playing with me like this.

this was a proper roller coaster; it had my emotions all over the place, ranging from happiness, to heated, to anger, to empathy. i gag every time an author writes a book that pulls on almost every one of my emotions.

maddox and yvana had me giggling and kicking my feet from start to finish. i adored their dynamic and how quickly they became one. stealing lingo, learning foreign tongues and shit😂

yvana was my favorite of the two, she was transparent with everything that she wanted. it was refreshing to have a fmc that didn’t cower away from her feelings and what she wanted. and bitch she’s CARIBBEAN???🇬🇾 me? love dat!😩 imagining her in my head was easy, she was written with some realism which made her an enjoyable character for me. she matched maddox’s energy and 9 times out of 10 it was unhinged 😂

maddox, on the other hand, i have a love-hate relationship with him. he said the most out of pocket things but somehow they made sense and somehow they were funny. ugh, he also has such a filthy mouth that’s hawwwt. he’ll make you mad but at the same time have a tear running down your leg😭🤞🏾. serious ting now… i didn’t like how he disregarded yvana’s feelings and decided to listen to her when it was convenient for him. his italian tongue cudu fool me into not being mad at him for that✋🏾🙄

their s*x scenes had me blushing, HARD. for two fictional characters their chemistry felt too real! but some of the s*x positions had me like huh😂 another thing, the time jumps were kind of sudden and constant. besides that, i really enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to get into book 2!🧡

4.25/5⭐

I really enjoyed this read, especially as a fellow West Indian. It took a bit of time to get into the book, but once I got over that hurdle I was fine.

I loved Yvana so much. She is such a strong FMC who deserves all the good in the world. She is hilarious and quick-witted and honestly such a badass. I relate to her so much, not only because she is West Indian (She is Guyanese and I’m Trinidadian) but also because of her independence. She didn’t have the best childhood and that forced her to start taking care of herself and choosing herself from a young age. But she doesn’t hold grudges or any bad feelings towards people who did her wrong and I loved that aspect of her.

I found myself laughing whenever her and Vi spoke Creole and the boys didn’t understand what they were saying.

Now on to Maddox. Maddox was wilding from the jump with all the audacity for the entire male population! That is probably what the ‘A’ in his name stands for; Audacity. Sounds about right lol. His need for control and his possessiveness were something I needed to get used to. I have to applaud him for his persistence, though. He knew what he wanted, and he wanted Yv. He did everything he can for them to be together. They both had their faults, but they learned and grew closer together. As I always say, we learn, we grow and we move.

The banter between them was great. I also loved the deep conversations they had pertaining to black people in the US. I keep forgetting this man’s white lol.

Now, why did this book end on a cliffhanger? I legit screamed “THAT’S IT?” after I read the last line. I’m still not over it. Now I need the next book and I need more of Sylvia and Alessio. I have feeling I might want to fight Vi for her man! Lol jk (maybe).

Keeping this short and cute!

This was a quick smutty read and I was clamping my thighs throughout 😏
Maddox absolutely had me 😳 ( too stunned to speak). He is beyond bold and entitled which I didn’t think I would like, but I was proved wrong. He’s a man that knows what he wants and not a soul can get in his way! He’s a protector, punisher and lover. LOVE WITH MADDOX IS INTENSE!

Yvana is such an undercover bad chick! I absolutely love her, from the accent to the kicking mens butt. She won’t just take any bullish laying down. She’s such a power house or as Zeek would say QUEEN MUVA! How she put up with Maddox insane sex I have no idea. ( my MEOW was a little traumatized) he was putting in the work, but she gave it right back to him.

FAVORITE QUOTES: “ you are my trigger and my anchor yvana, you’re perfect, my eternita ” - MADDOX

“However, if it is a chase you want, it is a chase you will get. I will hunt you. I will catch you. Then I will rip you apart and devour you, Yvana. So are you sure you don’t want to just be mine now?” - MADDOX

I can’t wait for Sylvia and alessio’s story to fully unfold, and figure out what’s going on with Abeni.

THE ENDING had me shooketh! How dare the author cliffhanger me and not have all the books on standby lol, but I’m definitely keeping an eye out for book two!

I most definitely recommend this book if you’re a smut fanatic!!

Thank you To the author Lillie. S.

Maddox and Yvanna showed that you can definitely fall in love at first site or bond and fall in love from talking on the phone before ever meeting. Their bond was already there before ever meeting and once they met up the chemistry and love was already there!!!

DNF at page 57. The author would be hard pressed to make the MMC likable. The writing is meh at best for me personally. I tried giving this book a shot and my fiancé asked why I looked so angry. This book is not for me, but maybe it’s your cup of tea.

I am going to start by saying I picked up this book simply because the author is Guyanese. I was over the moon giddy that I get to read a romance novel from an author that is from the same country as me. You just don't see that. Anyways let's get into it.

Ummm Maddox excuse me sir??? I don't think anyone was ready was the alpha a-hole that was Maddox. But can we really lie and say we don't love it. His possessiveness and need for control was over the top. However, Maddox knew what he wanted and he would stop at nothing to get it and in this case what he wanted was Yvana.

Yvana is a strong independent woman. She didn't have the easiest childhood but that didn't stop her from getting down to business and make the absolute best of her life. She hold no grudges and I have to say I admire her for that. She is smart, funny and loves hard.

Insert Maddox and her life became a whole lot more fun and spicier lol. Lord knows he was not easy but he loved as hard as she does and no matter what he was gonna make sure she knew his love. Their banter was elite lol.

The relationship between Yvana and her bestfriend Sylvia was one of my favorite things about this book.

Also I was not ready for the cliffhanger. I surely didn't see that coming. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

- This book just hit for me omgggg. Everything was just so good!!!! I loved it yall and I was really skeptical because second chance romance usually just annoy me Like why did you mess it up in the first place???

- The fmc Yvana was literally perfect! Like God Bless her soul yall she deserves everything good the world has to offer! She is a horticulturist and a CEO. She didn't have the best childhood but ofc she keeps that hidden from her personality. I lovee Yv! Then its Maddox and lemme just say this I didn't realize he was white until she said blue eyes lol! Ik I should have guessed from his name but no😭😭. Anyway Maddox is in espionage or was idk. He is VERY possessive which I personally loved. He is the complete package tbh, really enjoyed his character.

- Now the reason my rating isn't higher is because it ended on a cliffhanger like a fat one at that. Also I did feel like Yv was overreacting to alot.... Like I was saying Maddox is very possessive and I don't wanna spoil but when he threatened to shoot her in the foot then cocked his gun>>>>>>> im sorry I was gone after that😝😝😝. Oh also Alessio and Sylvia were so cute like come on!!! Get into the book for they cute moments. I haven't read an interracial romance in a while but the conversations these two had about life for black people in America!! I was pleasantly surprised and definitely loved that! Its really all hits in this book like fr!

- Its so much I could say but bottom line get you a copy! Definitely recommend.

I’ve been fumbling with my words over this one. Let me start off by saying that I didn’t expect Maddox to be so…unhinged and possessive?? And for the chemistry he had with Yvana to be so…palpable.

I loved the diversity in this book, not just racially but there was such a beautiful cast of characters that added another layer to the story. The Creole, the Italian, the banter and…voguing (It doesn’t make sense to list it all in that order but 😭😭I loved it all)

I loved how unique this book felt, in the descriptions, the proses and just the overall style of writing, truly amazing.

What a beautiful debut.

I had no idea this man was white until the blue eyes was mentioned. This book really didn’t do much for me. It felt like it had the insta-lovey trope but everything just felt so fake. The possessiveness was just too much and sis was just annoying. I honestly was more interested in the cousin and the best friend. I will spin the block back when their story is written
