A man calling himself the Fire Catcher is blowing up commuter ferries in San Francisco. Scores of innocent people are dead. And he promises more unless Agent Abby Kane has dinner with him.
But it’s soon revealed that the Fire Catcher has photographed the explosions and is selling them to art collectors worldwide. With demand strong and price of no concern, Abby wonders if the artwork was the end goal and not her attention. Lastly, other agencies involved with the federal task force are scheming to make her fail.
If Abby wants any chance to solve this case, she’ll need to seek help from the most unlikely people.

This was my first Abby Kane thriller. It won't be my last. I wanted to give this book a 5-star, but it just didn't quite make it for me. I did love the circuitous plot Hutchinson designed. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was doing what and why. I did not figure out who the culprit was until I was meant to, which can be a challenge for me sometimes. My one problem with the story is the amount of interference from Abby's father and son. I had a hard time believing she'd allow them to do anything that would compromise her case or endanger her career. It pushed my belief a tad too far. I wanted to throttle her dad for endangering her son, who was still in high school. And, encouraging her daughter to place information on social media? Yikes! It all worked out. But, it took the story out of the real world for me.
Although this is book #15 in the Abby Kane series, it's the first one I've read about her. Even so, I was able to read it with no difficulty or burning questions. It was obvious there was some back stories and they referred to some things that happened in the past, but the things were explained enough to keep the story moving and answer what was needed to know. It was a pretty good story with some twists and interesting characters. Abby is an FBI agent, but her teenage son seemed to be more savvy about a lot of stuff than she did. I figured out the culprit before Abby did, but they had me guessing for quite a while. It's interesting - there was exactly one "F" word in the whole book. I thought, why even throw that one in! Otherwise, it was a clean book with a good plot.
This was difficult to suspend belief. How can anybody get into these areas so easily to plant bombs without detection? How does an FBI agent share confidential information with a high school boy and a retired spy? And no way do bad guys kidnap a kid when they just killed another guy....So many impossible to believe events. I had the culprit pegged immediately upon his introduction into the story. There was nothing surprising, including the bombing of the other heads...I mean what did they think would happen meeting with a bomber on his terms? A whole lot of implausibles to make this just a little too much to accept.
Very casual family life for a parent as a SAC with the FBI. While it seems that all is a great family relationship, it is just too open and too much to be acceptable. Abby ends up looking like an idiot with her 18 year old son and father interfering and solving the case.
Another highly devastating and dastardly story, with Abby Kane, grabbing the reader by the throat and hanging on until the time when they cannot contemplate putting the book down. A terrific, action packed, volume which, in true Hutchinson style, grabs you and demands you read on and on to get to the true and definitive end of the case.
I have read a few of the Abby Kane books and they are page turners and hold my interest. I would give all of these books 5 stars if they were less circuitous. I find myself reading in circles and if the some of the repetitive scenes were condensed and less recovered I would give them all 5 stars.
This series would make for great movies with the right director.
Plot was a page turner, but the main character seemed weak in this novel. Also a grandfather who is supposedly so trained and wise should never be involving a high school senior, his grandson, in his machinations and in so doing defying the boy’s own mother and endangering the boy multiple times.
I have enjoyed reading this book. Having read a number of this author's other books, I feel very invested in Abbey and the cases she solves. I also like the fact that although it is part of a series, you can read them on their own. It is lovely to see how much Lucy & Ryan have grown up in these novels.
Alway enjoy Ty’s books and his style. But I wonder if this is a stretch? I also enjoyed Christopher Rosow’s Ben Porter series named False Assurances, Threat Bias, Subversive Addiction and Vital Deception.
Fantastic story line, with plot twists and turns that will keep you guessing. Excitement continues for Abbey as she pursues criminal masterminds. Sometimes helped and hindered by her family.
As always a great piece of fiction with enough fbi cia truth to keep you hooked. Surely this isn't the end of Abby and Kyle's story. Even if it is the start of Ryans.
Always a pleasure to read the next in the series. Still great! This was as much about Abby Kane’s family members starring in this one than just her and Kang. I wonder if a new series is being set up. Looking forward to the next one!
Loved the plot.... not crazy about the main characters. I was leaning toward seriously disliking THE lead character! The actual plot was amazing and well worth the read.
How do you solve a horrific crime while trying to keep your family safe? Abby Kane sure has a lot of trouble. Finding a sicko who is bombing ferries and buildings while trying to keep tabs on her father and son who are also investigating the crimes.
I GOT TO PAGE 121 OF 282 AND I WONDERED HOW THIS WOULD EVER BE SOLVED. EVERYTHING I CAME UP WITH HAD ME SMH. AS THEY SAID THIS CASE HAS A LOT OF MOVING PARTS SO MANY I CAN'T SEE IT HAVING A GOOD ENDING. ;<
Abby is up to her eyeballs in problems. Her son and father decide to independently investigate the "Fire Starter." They make progress but get seriously in harms way as they do so. I couldn't put the book down.
This Fire Catcher story had me glued to the book right from the start. It was engaging and entertaining with the plot twists and turns. Her father and Ryan are great, characters within the story.
Insgesamt gut zu lesen, wenn diesmal auch viel vorhersehbar gewesen ist. Für mich auch etwas zuviel Familie Business enthalten. Kommt nicht ganz an die ersten Bücher heran!
Very fast-paced. Loved the son and grandfather working on their own, undercover. The son was able to keep his cool and recover the information on his own . A good read.
I have read several Abby Kane books and looked forward to reading another but the whole concept of her 18 year old son being involved was a crazy idea.
