One of the best nonfiction self help/personal growth books I have read. And the book is so damn affordable!

Just get it and get up to go to where you want to reach.

The book has no nonsense about hows and whys. I was a bit sceptical when I started reading the book but this one stands out even after years of its publication.

Definitely the one book I am going to gift myself and the people I know.

A new revolution has started, with latest technological advancements we are entering into version 4.0 of Industrial revolution. A lot will change, many jobs will disappear and new ones will be born but some skills are never gonna change. 'The 10 New Life-Changing Skills' introduces those twenty first century skills such as critical thinking, influence without authority, creativity and framing right questions, so that everyone can effectively use them in their business and profession.

This book has some mind-blowing insights on skills that are essential for every person no matter what industry one dwells in. The book has four sections dealing with four different levels of skills, they are cognitive skills, self-manegment skills, social skills and emotional skills. Each section has different types of skills one can acquire by following step by step techniques. One can follow the steps in order to possess those skills and achieve success. This book speaks some of the crucial, everyday life skills we can use to have a fulfilling life. The most important thing about this book is it has a sum up of all the learnings after each chapter in a flowchart form which makes it a go to book to look at when in need.

Coming to the writing style, it is good, very simple and flowy but taking examples of repeated things makes it a boring narrative sometimes. Other than that it's a good book to brush up those important skills.

The author shares simplified approaches to survive in today's dynamic environment and how organised the chapters are. You simply have to take the dive in and just wait for the magic 🪄

Honestly, all things said and done but the mantras shared in this book are worth every penny and I'm going to read all of it again and again until it is scribbled on my soul.

Recommendation: People stuck at a certain level in their lives and looking to evolve as a personality should go read this book!

What’s the book about: "The 10 New Life-Changing Skills: Get Them and Get Ahead" by Rajesh Srivastava promises to be a comprehensive guide to master essential skills for today's rapidly changing world. Srivastava identifies ten critical skills, including creativity, innovation, and critical thinking, that are deemed necessary for success in the fourth industrial revolution spearheaded by AI.

Writing style: Srivastava's writing is clear and concise, but it lacks a distinctive voice that could make the content more memorable. While the real-world examples and practical advice are helpful, the writing sometimes feels too straightforward and lacks the nuance that could elevate it.

Engagement factor: The book is generally engaging, but it could evoke a feel of repetitiveness. Each chapter focuses on a specific skill and includes anecdotes and case studies to illustrate points. However, the book occasionally suffers from a "cookie-cutter" approach, making some sections feel predictable and less impactful.

Language: The language used in the book is straightforward and easy to follow, which is a plus. Srivastava avoids technical jargon, making the concepts accessible to a broad audience. However, this simplicity sometimes comes at the expense of depth.

Major Positives:
1. The skills highlighted in the book are truly essential for thriving in present era
2. Practical advice that can be applied immediately.
3. Relatable examples and case studies.
4. Comprehensive coverage of essential skills.
5. Clear and easy-to-understand language.

What didn't work for me:
1. Repetitive content made the experience tedious at some portions.
2. Lack of depth in some sections.
3. The writing style could be more engaging.
4. Information-dense chapters may overwhelm readers.

Key Takeaways:

1. Creativity: Embrace your creative instincts to develop innovative ideas and solutions that can set you apart in any field.

2. Innovation: Cultivate an innovative mindset to stay ahead in a competitive landscape, continuously seeking new ways to improve and grow.

3. Critical Thinking: Enhance your ability to analyze and evaluate information critically, enabling you to make well-informed decisions and solve complex problems.

4. Framing the Right Question: Master the art of asking the right questions to uncover deeper insights and drive meaningful conversations and outcomes.

5. Smart Problem-Solving: Develop efficient problem-solving skills to tackle challenges with a strategic and effective approach.

6. Lifelong Learning: Commit to continuous learning and self-improvement to stay relevant and adaptable in an ever-evolving world.

7. Storytelling: Leverage the power of storytelling to communicate your ideas compellingly and connect with your audience on a deeper level.

8. Influence Without Authority: Learn to influence and inspire others without relying on formal authority, building rapport and fostering collaboration.

9. Humanness: Embrace empathy and compassion in your interactions to build stronger, more meaningful relationships.

10. Entrepreneurial Spirit: Foster an entrepreneurial mindset that encourages risk-taking, innovation, and proactive problem-solving.

In summary, this book is a valuable resource for anyone looking to enhance their personal and professional skills. While the book offers practical advice and insights that can be easily implemented, it occasionally falls short in terms of depth and engagement. It's a worthwhile read for beginners and those seeking a refresher, but seasoned readers of self-help and personal development literature might find it somewhat repetitive.

“The saying "Tradition goes on" is anti-dynamic and ruins the progress and development of every nation that adheres to it”.

The current paradigm warrants the presence of a dynamic approach summed with the required amount of perseverance and perspective. Further, the 400 pages long book speaks much about itself and what is to come for the readers. Delving deeper, the aspect of skills including those which catalyze the proper flow of Critical thinking, reflection, and implementation in one’s life. Proceeding further, the book has been divided into 4 parts and consists of 10 Chapters in total, however, each chapter connotes a particular skill. The first part of the book has been titled “Higher Level Cognitive Skill” and under it comes to the first chapter/ skill titled “creativity”. In this chapter, the author from the very beginning stresses the prevalence of new ideas and solutions and this is carried forward in this chapter through one of the plausible instances in the author’s life where the author hints towards the observation made by Adam Grant as per which one is most creative when one is least alert and with this, a great psychological insight into creativity has been talked of summed with the elements connoting its origin and application. As the chapters go further, we have chapters titled “Innovation”, “Critical Thinking”, and “Framing the right question” and with the title themselves, the reader can grasp what holds for the readers further.

The writing style of the book has been kept simple and easy to understand for the readers. Further, the simplicity aspect gets complemented by the prevailing content of the book which leads the reader to infer a systematic flow of information and truer insights of creativity summed with varying ambits of skills including- Management skills, Social skills, etc. Lastly, the book holds contemporary relevance as well, for it prepares the reader to understand and implement the general rigors of contemporary times thereby making this book a must-read for anyone willing to go for a read that will have a huge impact on their future.

With the work culture shifting toward a dynamic environment and roles merged into one, this book is the perfect guide for you to crack the industry code of today. It talks about 10 trending terms/skills - Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Framing The Right Questions, Smart Problem Solving, Lifelong Learning, Storytelling, Influence Without Authority, Humanness, & Entrepreneurial Spirit - and how these can help you shape yourself while developing your appetite for new learnings.

While it is a must to have that one skill that sets you apart from others, it is always a plus to have skills which you would rate yourself as 6 or 7 in as well, because these skills will actually set you apart, not that one skill in which you rate yourself to be an 8 or a 9. Why? Because with the amalgamation of these skills, you create a superset of skills which make you a superhero of today's time.

I could relate to the examples presented in this book because I don multiple hats at times, and trust me when I say this, there is no better feeling than that.

If you are someone who wants to witness some of the great experiences/case studies of the world's most influential people or companies, then this is the book for you. Dive in and come out skill-fuller.

As an IIT and IIM alumnus with an impressive career in multinational corporations, Srivastava brings a wealth of experience to the table, all shared in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner.

What sets this book apart from other career guides in India is its comprehensive approach. "The future depends on what you do in the present "

___ Mahatma Gandhi

Right from the beginning without writing unnecessary content author has written very well about new technologies and creative ideas which is must and worth learning to change the future of the world. It's something innovative that deep dives into your mind to read more about it and start researching on it.

The book starts with the introduction which is worth reading that talks about why this book has written with the example short stories. The very first skill that is creativity is very well written and explained by the author right from the beginning the meaning and almost everything is covered about this skill.

The one thing which i really liked is the organized concepts with perfect explanation and he also used illustrations to explain the particular topic.

Overall there are 10 such skills which are worth reading and adopting in your present life to change your future so i must recommend this book to everyone.

I found it as a typical book mostly. The profund belief shattering chapters for me the ones on lifelong learning, humaneness and entrepreneurial spirit. Overall it's a book with lots of examples so relating was easier. One thing I liked about it is after every chapter there is summary flowchart summarizing the chapter. Coming to the negatives I think it was too factual and very managerial like, some examples were repeating at some point. Of course many of the examples were nice ways to implement in life but some are simply contradictory. Maybe if the way the book was written was a bit more excitement and depth have given it 4 stars. I personally believe implementing skills in your life are more difficult than a few steps to follow from a book so a deeper book which focused more on the practicality of small principles would have been better rather than the followed policy in this book( lots of principles with less depth) for me personally. I'd still recommend it for someone who wants to improve their soft skills in their career. I might even come back to read specific chapters later.

The 10 new life-changing skills by Rajesh Srivastava is a guide to all the newbies in the work industry and profession who must be equipped with these skills in order to lead a better life in future when humans will not only compete with other humans but also with artificial intelligence. At that time, these skills will come in handy.

Although the author must agree (if he is reading this review) that most of the skills mentioned in the book such as critical reasoning, creativity, and storytelling skills are not only learnt but must be developed over a period of time.

What I love the most about this book was, all the skills were backed by solid and practical examples. The advice and summary at the end were very helpful, surely I will apply the advice and try to acquire these skills asap.

The language of the book is beginner-friendly so anyone can pick this book up and read it. Overall highly recommended by me.
