Sadie didn’t used to be superstitious, but recent events could persuade any skeptic to believe in the paranormal.
An old cold case bears a striking resemblance to a murder that occurred in Hallow Haven weeks ago, and now it seems that history is repeating itself in more ways than one. The police have a main suspect, but Sadie has her doubts.
After a conversation with her familiar, she uncovers a new branch of her family tree that could change everything. The truth is about to come out, and it could spell trouble. Could she finally find out where her parents have been all this time?
Kate and Effie, her two best friends, are desperate to teach her some more protection spells because this killer seems to murder in threes… no one is safe.
At least she has dinner with her boyfriend’s parents to look forward to, but honestly that might turn out to be the most stressful part of her week.
Mara Webb graduated from a child with a vivid imagination and a love of all things magic, to a professional writer. Mara writes cozy mysteries with a paranormal twist, and delights in concocting new and unusual ways to murder characters in her books.
Sadie’s first traumatic experience was preparing dinner for her werewolf boyfriend Miller’s mom, meeting her for the first time. She was terrified. Actually Miller, the local Sheriff, made the dinner while she made dessert, using her witch skills to keep the cake from melting throughout the warm afternoon. Actually this last cake had been her 4th attempt. She had made the first without eggs, the next without sugar, the 3rd try resulted in a sort of rubber disc (it even bounced when dropped!), and finally success. Why couldn’t they just go to a nice restaurant?
But Anita Miller – yes, Sadie had found out 2 weeks ago she had been calling her boyfriend by his last name because he didn’t like his first name and decided to drop it – Anita was totally not what Sadie expected. She was wonderful, happy, enthusiastic, and fit right in. Sadie loved the spirited woman immediately! As Miller explained, his mom had been involved in community theatre and was very expressive! Her energy was boundless while Miller was serious and stoic.
Anita said she was planning a mini-vacation for them all since Miller hadn’t seen his workaholic travelling father in months, and they would be joining him since he had said the guest house had vacancies. Miller tried to talk Sadie out of it, but she was now intrigued. (Underneath his protests, it was easy to hear how close he was to his “intense” family.) But when Miller told his mom he knew that she was aware there would be vacancies at the guest house because “any normal person that knows about the history of that place avoids it like the plague” – well, that caught Sadie’s attention. What history?
Ryder, a vampire, was helping Sadie look through old newspaper articles. He found an odd one where someone was tied up and shot in 1991, and reference to a similar death from 1961, and a total of 3 bodies had been found in each case. And last month, Sadie has seen another death just like these. One of the killers, Sam Benson, was still alive and in prison for life. Sadie, as resident peacekeeper, would join Brielle, heading there to do physicals for the inmates. Sadie’s ghost cousin Greta also joined them. And Ryder was along as the guardian. There was a list of names of people who wanted to talk to Sadie, one crossed out. Ryder was able to make out the name… ‘Sam Benson’. But a fight had the guards ushering all of them out of the prison.
While Sadie investigates a killer, she learns more information about her own family. Memories of who was buried that day at the funeral seemed to have been tampered with, and no one remembered. A casual comment from her familiar, Fitz, about Fay Parker who trained him, caught Sadie’s attention – that was her biological father’s last name. It sounded familiar to everyone else at the table, but no one could remember. But Fitz knew her and remembered! Discovering a new branch of her family tree may just reveal the information she was looking for to find her parents.
I loved the writing style of the author. The story line just flowed along with humor and dialog that felt so natural that it seemed like the characters were actually there chatting with us! (Or maybe since we have witches and ghosts, they actually were right there with us?) This was well-written and the characters were very comfortable. There were several story lines cleverly intersecting to move us along and keep the reader curious. I really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend it.
Third Time’s A Charm is the eighth book in the Hallow Haven Witch Mysteries series but it can be read as standalone.
Sadie Alden, the resident peacekeeper on an island of Hallow Haven, is under a lot of pressure preparing dinner and meeting her boyfriend Miller's mom for the first time. While investigating Sadie also find out more information about her family that will help her to find her parents.

Discovering new family, a murderer on the rampage, and dinner with her boyfriend's parents. Looks like proof that trouble comes in threes.
This is book eight of the series, but it works just fine as a standalone.
This is a cozy witch mystery with a very nice tropical setting. Well, I say a nice setting, but there are a lot of murders here, so that does take the shine off of it a bit. The story is well written, easy to read with a heavy dose of mystery and intrigue. The characters are well developed and definitely the star of the show as they bring all the action, mystery and humor to the fore. And they just get better with each new book. The mystery is also a good one with enough twists and turns to keep the reader entertained. Overall, another great entry in the series and I look forward to seeing more.
Highly recommended.

I truly love the series, and the concept of the storyline. However, it is very hard to continue following a story with the spelling errors, the grammar mistakes are overwhelming to try to get passed. It's not just an easy fix with spell check, because the words are actually spelled correctly they are just used incorrectly, which makes it hard to follow. If something is left out or left behind it isn't missed out or missed behind. Just like know and no have different meanings. It's very similar to to, too, and two, there, they're, and their along with here and hear, and deer and dear. All of these words have been used out of context and it makes it hard to want to continue reading. If it wasn't for a great storyline, and concept of story I would not have been this far into the series. I just couldn't go any further without pointing it out. I still give 5 stars because I love the story and all authors deserve praise for doing the hardest job out there.
Sadie and Miller, her boyfriend and local sheriff, are meeting his mother and it turns out well. When she mentions a vacation with his father and the vacancy at the guest house, curiosity peaks and research is needed. Multiple deaths happening every so many years means it is happening with one murder already done. Her vampire friend is great help and Fritz, her familiar, is always good for a comment or two. Loved the characters and how they all unite with their specific talents. The storyline hooks you right from the start and has a great conclusion at the end. Romance comes and goes as they work on the mystery. Can not wait until the next book is out.

Miller gets to meet his mother. There's a prison where the guards don't want any changes to happen. There's a female ghost from the 1800's that might be related to Sadie.
There's also a vengeful spirit and Darcy sends cards that seem to have an ominous meaning.
Which brings me to wonder. The cards Darcy sent seemed to be tied in to something that could happen but only if the cards remained in the house they were sent to. So, why not just use magic to cause all the cards to leave and end up in a fire or a rubbish heap?
Also, this is another volume where I get annoyed with Fitz. On the familiar quality rating system I would put him very near the bottom.
While Webb gives us another great addition to her myriad of witchy works, the typos and grammatical errors in this book are more than the norm. If you’re already a fan, it will just mainly be an annoyance, but if this is the first book you’re reading of Webb’s, choose another one — this is not a proper representation of her writing.

I love this series, I loved to see in this book that Sadie and Will are still going strong and that their relationship progressed to the meet the family and vacation together stage. The characters are wonderful and the world building also it would be a tropical paradise if it weren't for all those murders...oh well more for Sadie to unravel.

This whole series is great! I really enjoyed this book! More is found out about her family, and it is so interesting. I love the characters in this series. A great book by one of my favorite authors! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Every thirty years four murders have occurred and this is the year it will happen again. Sadie, Miller, Ryder, and the cousins have just three days to solve this centuries old mystery.
Wow again. No way would i have guessed that she could bring her parents back just by saying their names. I f we could do that no one would have to be gone. Well I guess that would not work as well as it sounds.
The plot was attention getting and very well plotted. I couldn't put the book down I read it in a few hours. I would recommend the bok to anyone who likes paranormal books. I can' t wait to get started on the next book.
Every 30 years people die in the same way as the previous group. It's been 30 years since the last outbreak now it starts again can they stop it before the end of cycle? Good read.
These are really cute stories and I am enjoying them but these books desperately need an editor. There way too many instances of incorrect word usage or verb tense. The further I get in the series, the worse it seems to be. I keep reading because I'm enjoying the stories, but it is distracting.
Another interesting entry in the Hallow Haven series. Sadie meets another of her aunts and she gets Sadie to bring her parents back to Hallow Haven so that they can help with whatever spell her aunt Darcy is planning for Halloween. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Finally this book has gotten much better than the first 7 books! I won't relieve anything about the story but it should not take 8 books to start to get backgrounds on all of the characters!
Characters are interesting. The plot is getting thicker. Sadie has solved the murders and found what she was looking for. Can't wait for the next book.
