It's 2009 and the war in Afghanistan is at its height. Charlie Lockhart is in Helmand Province, looking for adventure, and when he finds an abandoned truck, he uncovers a military conspiracy to smuggle millions of dollars of aid money out of Afghanistan. Lockhart's sense of justice makes him determined to get the money back to the people who need it, but as he drives the truck away, a whole lot of trouble follows him out of the desert. Somebody will stop at nothing to get the money back. Driving across Asia and Europe as he tries to escape, Lockhart must unravel a global conspiracy before the people at the heart of it catch up with him and kill him.

A great adventure story! This book was nicely plotted with a great, cool hero Charlie who inadvertently gets swept into a violent and complicated situation where he is tracked by one of the most vicious assassins I have ever encountered. Along the way, Charlie exhibits a strong moral character, some really interesting chance acquaintances and some humorous experiences. I liked the bits of song lyrics that started each chapter and the way the story would pause occasionally to give time to reflect that there was more than just this tense chase going on. Can’t wait to see where Charlie’s next tourist trip leads him. I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
I read this book in two days, I couldn't put it down! I got goosebumps, fell in love with the characters, especially Charlie, and even shed a tear! It’s rare that a book grips me like that.... I think that last time I was gripped in a similar way was ‘I am pilgrim’ and I felt a very similar way reading this book. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves an unpredictable thriller.
An insight but not a newspaper or tv news of what Afghanistan is all about. But will never be found in holiday resort reviews. The errors can be ignored as the factua l desriptions are enough to enlighten the readers who have led a sheltered life without knowledge of cultures and traditions of foreign countries to their domicile It is An interesting read with details not often accommodated by authors as they have no practical experience of t he subject . This author cleans facts from personal experience which adds to the detail and facts he records Readers who cannot comprehend the story not only have led a sheltered life but are unaware of world events conflicts and wars which is surprising as Afghanistan has been A war zone for 18 years initially by Russia who left for failure and now America and some allies are now deploying social and schemes.housing education etc which continues the financial aid sometimes in cash but continues the corruption not reported to the public
I throughly enjoyed this book, it was packed with ever-changing action and kept you going back to find out more of the story and what was coming next. I never got bored with with the way the author kept the story moving and kept me interested. I highly recommend this book and author to everyone who loves a well thought out plot and well written thriller.
Our Heroes and Villains are in That River- deciding whether to meander at the edge or go for maximum in the center of the current. A long and thrilling story—Cannot believe our author has written 3 more books about our Hero!
Got me from the first salvo. The action, the characters are well developed and their responses are, sometimes expected but change in the blink of an eye. Brought me the distant places that I would like to visit. Great read. Conrad Samayoa.
I was a little hesitant when I started reading this one. However, once I got into it I enjoyed it. This one is the start of a series and I already have the next three on my TBR list.
The first book that I have read this author but I will be reading more. Read this book at a difficult personal time and it took nearly two weeks .Normally I would have read it in a couple of days which would have made it even more enjoyable. Looking forward to getting the time to read the next in one sitting.
Well done, Mr. Stone! Quite the intrigue and suspense for an avid mystery lover. Heart Stopping at many points. 4 stars for the distracting typos often found in ebooks.
A good story with well developed characters ruined by either poor to nonexistent editing or a nodding acquaintance with the English language and massive ignorance of too many places and items
Exciting read, but should have been proofed. A handful of errors.
Lockhart, in the Middle East, gets hired to drive a truck elsewhere. What he was unaware of, that the truck contained millions of dollars. The people, who stole it, wanted it back.
Good story line, however there were too many people getting killed (innocent bystanders for example) for my taste. Adjusting to minor English spelling and word usage took a bit of getting use too.
