Forced to leave college in disgrace, Cassidy Jameson is now starting all over again at a new university. It's a place where she can forget about everything she's lost and concentrate on getting her life back on track.
After the debacle that was last year, the only thing Cassidy is interested in is school. Guys are the absolute furthest thing from her mind. Well, they would be if Cole Mathews would just take the hint and leave her alone. Everywhere she turns, there he is.
Cassidy has spent the better part of the last nine months feeling completely numb and that's just the way she wants it to stay. But Cole has other ideas. As much as Cassidy wants to deny it, if she has a type, Cole fits the bill to perfection. With his shaggy chocolate colored hair, golden brown eyes, muscular arms, and those damnable dimples of his, he's the total package. Oh, and did she happen to mention his chest? Yeah... totally dreamy. Er... if she were the dreamy sort, that is. Thank goodness she's not. To make matters worse, he's completely easy going and (damn but she hates to admit it) nice. Yep, definitely kryptonite material. Which makes him much too dangerous for the likes of her and this year, she's smart enough to know it. Even though resisting him seems futile, that doesn't mean she's not going to try.
As Cassidy and Cole grow closer, Cassidy knows that she's eventually going to have to come clean and tell him about her past. Cole knows the girl she is now, not the one she used to be. Will his opinion of her change after he discovers the truth? Will he end up walking away, leaving her even more broken than she already is?

Not too bad, if a little predictable. I liked the fact that both the h/H were talented hockey players. It was cute seeing him discover she's basically his dream woman. She knows classic cars, she's quick witted, AND she kicks ass at hockey? He was salivating. Lol.
Here's what I really want to know. WHY the freakity freak is the guy on the cover wearing that shirt? The hero is a college hockey player. Uh....am I missing something? Is he a CEO in his secret life?
Okay NA romance. Sweet, hot Jock H who almost stalks the h, but didn't like the h much. HFN ending. 3 stars just for the H, wish he had another h though!!
Note: there is a sequel planned apparently, potential for drama there from h's jerkish dad, from H's cheating ex and a new OM sniffing around h. Not sure how this author is going to handle it..
Fans of new adult will certainly enjoy this book and I did too, despite being a little cheesy and predicatable, it was nice. Both main characters are pretty easy going, just a bit too dramatic and nothing special so no high rating from me.
What I liked: 1) We get Cole's, the H's, pov sporadically throughout this book. It was necessary for me to finish reading it as I found Cassidy's narrative a little grating. 2) Cole. Need I say more? He's beautiful, smart, sweet, steadfast, and not a manwhore. How refreshing. 3) There isn't any outside drama. No love triangles, no cheating, no using others to make someone jealous. Again, refreshing.
What I didn't like: 1) Cassidy. Yes, she had her issues, but I didn't really understand why she made such a big deal out of what happened last year. I guess since she had no support system and her family is so mad at her (again, I don't really understand why), so maybe that was why her "failure" haunted her so. I do believe it was blown out of proportion, though. While most college NA makes light of binge drinking, casual sex, crazy partying, and skipping class, this book almost takes it too seriously. I guess for me, some of these issues are more serious than others, but none of them should make parents borderline disown their kid. It doesn't make any sense and since there were basically no development of the parent's character, it continued to mystify (and not in the good way) all the way to the end of the book. 2) Disclosing "secret" dragged on for wayyyyy too long. 3) I needed to hear more from Cole. Cassidy's inner monologue was too much.
Great characters, great drama I only wished it was longer. Didn't take me very long to read and although it's not a cliff hanger there were some unresolved issues at the end that I am now annoyed to have to wait to find out about.
Jennifer does a great job of making you feel like you are on a journey with Cassidy. Everyone makes mistakes. At the time, you may never realize exactly what those mistakes could cost you, or how much time it could take to get back to who you really are.
Thing is I can't figure out how to rate this book.
We're supposed to love Cole and root for his relationship with Cassidy. The problem is that he's set up as this caring and supportive love interest but he isn't. He pursues Cassidy even though she repeatedly tells him no, or to back off. Even after she has two panic attacks because of him. Yes she is attracted to him but she still tells him no. Regardless of her refusing to tell him her name he finds it out through subterfuge and other means.
He's set up as a caring guy and not d-bag who will go at whatever speed she feels comfortable with but it's him who decides when she needs space and does it in such a way that she ends up feeling guilty like she is at fault.
Yes, Cassidy is happy at the end but I don't see Cole as the Prince Charming he's made out to be. Instead he doesn't take no for an answer and gaslights her when he isn't happy with the situation.
Then we have the attempted rape at Dartmouth that Cassidy (and her parents) clearly blame herself for. This part of the storyline is completely unacceptable in every possible way. She was horrified that Luke might tell Cole that he saved her from being gang-raped? There is something majorly wrong with that situation.
Not the romance or HEA I was expecting or looking for.

This is a dual POV but his chapters are few and far between. Most of the story is the FMC's anxious inner monologue. There is some huge secret about her past that she keeps seemingly forever, and it feels a little overblown as long as it's just hinted at. Although it is rather devastating and potentially triggering for some readers when she finally reveals it. Her parents are entirely terrible and I don't like her therapist. She's out there telling the FMC she shouldn't date and if she dates she needs to tell the guy all about her past. And you know, funk that shit, it's not the therapist's call to say who should and should not date, she doesn't know Cole, and if the therapist can't call what happened by the real word it's not her job to decide who the FMC should trust with the story of
I liked Cole's anxiety whisperer ways and would have liked more of his point of view.
Apparently the story continues in another book with some other woman drama but I couldn't be bothered with that. I don't want the FMC to reconcile with the toxic parents but maybe she's going to.
A college hockey romance where Cole sets his eyes on Cassidy, but she wants nothing to do with him. He's determined to make her his girl.
I loved how patient Cole was with her, constantly reassuring her and going at a pace she's comfortable with, after what had happened to her the year before. It's emotional at times, but in general, it's a light read with an easy plot to follow.
My favourite moment was the ice skating 'date'... I don't want to give away any spoilers, so you'll have to read it to find out why. I giggled at this scene.
If you enjoy books like Elle Kennedy's hockey series, then you'll enjoy this.
Just a side note, while I enjoyed the plot and the overall romance, the FMC is a little frustrating when it comes to telling Cole her big secret as to why she has panic attacks. Every time she had the chance, she either got sidetracked or chickened out... it could have all been solved if she had just communicated with him.
Why you gotta hurt me like that?!?! I was trying to put the pieces together and figure out what happened to her. I did not guess it had been just that terrible.
Luke needs to back off. I don’t know his intentions. He could be a really nice guy. But I doubt it. And even so, he’s messing up her recovery.
Cole though?? Cole isn’t messing anything up. He’s perfection. So sweet, patient, caring, empathetic. He’s amazing!! I think they’re perfect for each other.
Gonna need to hold off reading the next part though. I can feel more angst coming and I’m not ready for their hurt just yet.
There isn’t a book by Jennifer that I haven’t loved and this one is no exception! I am obsessed with Cole! He is such a swoon worthy book boyfriend! And Cassidy is the perfect main female character! The level of secrecy that is kept throughout this whole story is superior! Reading the journey of these two from meet cute to developing a friendship and then a relationship is so intense. And the past that haunts Cassidy kept me on my toes, always waiting for the other shoe to drop and everything to be revealed! I loved this book so much and can’t wait to get the rest of their story and hopefully a HEA in the second book, Don’t Leave!
I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if it actually made sense. I didn't understand why Cassidy was making the choices she did. I didn't understand her family's reaction to what happened to her the previous year at all. I actually felt outraged at how they acted and that the author made it seem like it was Cassidy's fault and it was her job to try and patch things up with them. Once she did, she never confronted or questioned them, just was thankful they were back together. I also didn't understand why it took so long to find out what happened to Cassidy, almost at the end of the book. The one bright spot? Cole!!
It's such a sad reflection of the pressures that life puts on us as a society.
It's heartbreaking to read how the people who are supposed to love us unconditionally would do what they did to Cassidy. Glad he came around at the end.
I mean, here is Cole a kind, understanding, soft, and gentle man that brings her back to life.
It's hot and spicy but the way Cole loves Cassidy and shows her, the good in people again is what's inspiring.
I am glad she found her people.
If there's one thing I took from this book is life has a way to course correct things when we live for others.
I really enjoyed "Stay" by Jennifer Sucevic. This is a short 2 book series and sets the stage for a college romance with a hockey and redemption subtheme. Overall, the book was an entertaining weekend read for me and left me interested in continuing with the second book. This author does a decent job writing in this genre and I've become a fan of her work. Overall - a great addition to your book collection. Happy Reading...enjoy!
This is a HFN book, although it does not end on a cliffhanger.
Cassidy and Cole are a cute hockey couple. He works really hard to win her over, and as their story progresses, you learn so much about her struggles and what it takes for her to trust him.
Cole is an amazing man, and they are lucky to find each other. I’m not sure if I’m invested enough to pay for the next book, as the ending is satisfying.
I actually really liked this one, college romance + sport etc all rolled into one. The only thing I didn’t love is how many times they would hammer in the same points about how muscley he is or how brown his eyes were. It gets old fast. Also the engagement so fuckin soon like i understand it’s fantasy but damn

Since the reading slump hit me, it was hard to get back into my usual rythm. But, this book was a surprise, my interest didn't die as the plot progressed, on the contrary, my interest increased. Jennifer Sucevic it's a new author for me, and her writing style turned out to be fresh. So I obviously will read the next volume.
Don’t know why this authors books don’t have more reviews. I loved King of Campus and really enjoyed this one. Was hoping for an epilogue but then I realized there’s a second book! Starting it now! Recommend you give this a try!!
This was an emotional and angsty sports romance that I just couldn’t put down! The fmc had some baggage that she just couldn’t get rid of & the mc does everything he can to be with her. I loved this book! Jenn does it again completely makes me fall in love with her characters! Such an amazing book!
This books has stayed with me since I read it A broken h and a strong H makes for a great read Cole was just so sweet and supportive but boy did my heart break for him in Cassidy’s time of confusion but what a HEA
i feel that it dragged too much. the secret that the FMC was carrying about her past didn't feel as pressing as it was made out to be, and her POV got tiring. the MMC's POV was much more refreshing, and if i'd read more of his throughout the book, this review may have been higher.
i’ve read this book before but forgot what happened. this book was good and deep. i really liked cole and cassidy a lot. i feel really sad for cassidy and everything she went through. i’m going to start the 2nd one right away lol.
