On the family’s Brazos River Ranch in Texas, Avery Elliott helps run her grandfather’s commercial construction business. Raised by Senator Elliott, Avery has never doubted her grandfather is the man of integrity and faith she’s always believed him to be . . . until the day she finds him standing with a gun over the body of a dead man. To make matters worse, Avery’s just discovered a billing discrepancy for materials supposedly purchased for construction of the Lago de Cobre Dam.
Desperate for answers, Avery contacts FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins for help. As Marc works to identify the dead man Avery saw, threats toward Avery create a fresh sense of urgency to pinpoint why someone wants to silence her. With a hurricane approaching the Texas coast and the structural integrity of the Lago de Cobre Dam called into question, time is running out to get to the bottom of a sinister plot that could be endangering the lives of not only Avery and her loved ones but the entire community.

DiAnn Mills hits it out of the ballpark again! I have enjoyed this author's books for a few years now, and she can suck me into the story like no one's business.
This novel mixes politics, murder, romance, family, and forgiveness all in one not so tidy bundle. Many characters are flawed, but there is growth as obstacles are put in their path.
Avery, the protagonist, is a strong-willed woman, but she didn't get that way all on her own. Taken in by her grandfather as a child, she learns a lot from him about ethics and faith. Both of those served her well over the years but could stand in her way of moving forward with her life. It was interesting how her body reacted to stress at the beginning of the book. She is tenacious and doesn't back down, which is both good and bad, especially regarding her safety.
Marc is one of the good guys that finds himself smack dab in the middle of this situation because of his father. It is no surprise when sparks happen between him and Avery as the story progresses. I think they are good for each other, but at the same time, they are both stubborn, and someone has to give in at some point.
The mystery has multiple layers, and just when I thought I might know who was orchestrating everything, a new piece of evidence or a suggestion changed everything I thought or believed. By the end of the book, I had narrowed down who was behind all of this, but the truth is revealed in bits and pieces for us to understand.
The characters are well-developed, and I enjoyed getting to know all of the players. I loved Marc's partner, Roden. He has a good sense of humor and is dedicated to his job with the FBI. He could also play the "good cop" to Marc's "bad cop." But they are a good team and were able to put a lot of the pieces together. There are plenty of characters to dislike, including Avery's parents. They are lowlifes and are only after one thing, money.
Faith is a strong component of this book. Not all characters are strong believers, but many come around and realize that perhaps having faith and believing help soften the edges.
This is a top-notch book that will take you on a fast-paced ride. We give it 5 paws up.
DiAnn Mills has smashed it with a unique premise and lots of intrigue and danger. When her Grandad disappears after Avery Elliott sees him standing over a body, she cannot reconcile the incident with the faith filled, loving grandfather she has known all her life. Of three friends, only Senator Elliott is left alive. Marc Wilkins has lost his father and is looking into his connection to Senator Elliott. And he will need help from Avery. This story was filled with many possible suspects in an interesting way that kept me turning pages. But not all was centered on murder. Ms. Mills also touched on hospice care, a hereditary disease, family dynamics, dealing with trauma and unresolved issues of abandonment and some romance. Forgiveness and grace play a big part of the story. “Gran told me forgiveness was a gift to myself. Without it, I would be eaten up with hate.” This was not just an entertaining story, it taught essential life lessons, too. * I received a complimentary copy of this book as part of the Partners In Crime Tour. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Avery Elliot is in charge of the business end of her grandfather's huge ranch and his construction company which focuses on building concrete dams. When she spots a dead body on the ranch property and finds records in her book work that don't make sense, Avery knows something is going wrong. FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkin's suspects his dad's death was not a heart attack like it was ruled. When he finds connections to Avery's grandfather, who has suddenly disappeared, they work together to figure out what is going on.
Once again, DiAnn Mills pens a suspense novel that keeps readers' minds twisting and turning from start to finish. I loved the setting of the ranch and the connection between those on the ranch and Avery. Marc's addition along with his newly discovered half sister, Tessa, and their relationship just added to the storyline. Add a HEA ending after a lot of hidden secrets, and Mills' book keeps your attention from start to finish.
Synopsis: When Avery’s granddad disappears under questionable circumstances, she seeks advice and assistance from FBI agent Marc Wilkins.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary eARC of the book from the publisher. Opinions expressed are my own.
Scripture Connection
God is not a human, that he should lie, not a human being that he should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?
Num. 23:19 Spiritual Themes
The main characters, Marc and Avery, are both Christians who are growing in their walks with the Lord. Marc gave his life to the Lord during a junior high youth camp, but is now struggling to forgive his father, who abandoned Marc and his mom when Marc was still a kid.
Avery, who was raised by her grandfather, has based her faith on her grandpa’s relationship with the Lord. Now, in his absence, she begins to call upon God in a more personal way: praying and reading the Bible. She also learns that her granddad is fallible, but God is not.
I appreciate that the faith thread is apparent, throughout.
What I Liked
This was my first time reading a novel by DiAnn Mills and I enjoyed the experience. I feel that the mystery was well-paced, with the clues gradually teased out, over time. There were multiple twists and turns, along the way, and enough ambiguity that I kept going back and forth in my guessing. It was also neat to watch the pieces come together, in terms of the culprit’s motivation.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Marc and Tessa. Without giving away the nature of this relationship, I will say that I feel the author did a great job of portraying their dynamic in a fair and realistic way. I have often been disappointed by the way that authors treat this particular kind of relationship, and I would say that the way Mills handled this relationship sets apart Concrete Evidence.
I liked that the characters walked with the Lord and that their faith clearly informed their actions. They turned to God in their troubles and conflict. I also feel that the faith theme was strong, in that characters also learned about where not to place their faith.
Content Notes
The suspense plot line contributes to some violent moments, but nothing particularly graphic that I recall.
There are several kissing scenes, including one moment that just got on my nerves, a little. As with the violene, nothing is particularly descriptive. One element that I did appreciate, with the romance, was that there was a continued awareness that the characters had been thrust together in the face of urgent circumstances. They acknowledged, multiple times, that they would need to get to know each other better, once everything had calmed down.
Recommendation Status
This was a solid Christian suspense novel with some good themes. Recommended for readers who enjoy suspense and romance
DiAnn Mills continues to prove why she’s one of my go-to suspense authors, and Concrete Evidence is no exception. Right from the first chapter, I was intrigued by the complex mystery and by the character dynamics that Mills weaves throughout the story. A steady pace, a layered cast, and a unique premise ensure that readers will keep turning the pages, needing to know what happens next – just like I did. There are several different elements in play throughout Concrete Evidence (including faith, family, and romance), and each one serves a purpose to draw readers into the heart of this novel and keep them guessing until the high-intensity ending. A delightful way to spend a weekend!

This was a solid Christian suspense novel with some good themes. Recommended for readers who enjoy suspense and romance.
"Concrete Evidence" is a Christian romantic suspense. Some parts of this story were unrealistic and others were never satisfactorily explained. So much about horses was wrong. While I enjoyed that the heroine rescued the hero (unfortunately, in a scene full of unrealistic aspects), this came at the expense of the hero being incredibly dumb. He knew who the killer was. He saw that the person had a hidden gun. He didn't call/text for backup. He didn't put off the confrontation and arrange for a safe arrest later. No, he confronted the killer and immediately gave up when the killer pulled the gun, like he hadn't expected that response. Sigh.
On to the unexplained: The bad person wanted a digital file and acted like there was only one copy of it. And it's not like that was the only evidence against the killer. Also, the first video of the dam inspection wasn't of a different dam or something, so how did no one notice the foundation was flawed or that it was the same video in the second inspection? Surely multiple people viewed the thing. Surely different people carried out independent inspections of the foundation before the rest of the dam was built, etc.
Avery and Marc were both nice people, but they didn't share any interests and didn't always get along. Once, Marc wanted to wring her neck, yet he kept thinking about what a good team they made. Well, about her lips, at least. It seemed like they wanted to get married mainly so they could freely kiss (and more). Marc and Avery both just assumed that she'd go live with him and live at his paygrade even though she's rich. I'd have preferred they discussed it beyond a few sentences, summarized: 'You'll have to give up living wealthy!' which was met with 'No problem' rather than 'Why?'
The constant danger was suspenseful. The mystery was both complex and oddly easy to solve. (I was sure whodunit was a certain person. Avery was certain it wasn't him, even though all evidence pointed toward him, so I said, 'if not him, then that person.' I was right.) The characters were likable. So it's not a bad story, but more...exasperating. There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
When Avery Elliott sees her beloved grandfather standing over a dead body with a gun in his hand, her perfectly ordered life begins to fall apart. At her grandfather's request, she seeks help from FBI agent Marc Wilkins.
There were a lot of twists and turns in this novel, but the FBI spent so much time collaborating and getting advice from civilians that it felt more like a cozy mystery than a romantic suspense.
I did not connect with the characters. I felt as though I was being told what to think instead of being able to draw my own conclusions about the characters.
The plot also felt forced as though things were not unfolding in a logical way but was instead being done to create shock and awe. There were a couple of red herrings to distract from the real villain but when the explanations of their innocence came, it felt contrived.
The romance was very mild and did not evolve naturally. When Avery and Marc got together, I wasn't convinced that they would have a happily ever after.
Readers will be reminded that God is watching out for us and that we will make it through trials if we allow Him to carry our burdens. I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.
What a complex and suspenseful mystery novel this is! This is my first experience with DiAnn Mills' writing and I very much like how she expressed her characters' love for Christ and commitment to their families and friends.
The story: Avery lives with her grandfather, a retired senator, on a ranch. Marc works for the FBI and was raised by his single mother, to whom he's very devoted. They are the main characters and both are Christians. They meet at the suggestion of Avery's grandfather while he's in hiding. But why is he in hiding? Did he do something wrong? That would be so out of character for him but it is true that Avery saw her grandfather in the family cemetery on the ranch, holding a gun and standing over a dead man. There's not much more I can tell you without getting into spoilers, and I don't want to do that.
I honestly think I'm not the right audience for a suspense thriller type of mystery. I recently started reading a lot of Christian fiction because I need clean fiction, I'm a Christian, and this fits my needs. However this is the first Christian murder mystery type of suspense thriller I've read and I think I'm better off reading historical romances. Fortunately there was a little romance in this novel but it was very understated. I think anyone who enjoys this type of suspense fiction would appreciate and like this novel.
I'm grateful to the publisher for allowing me to read a complimentary copy of this novel. No review was required and the feelings I've expressed in this review are mine, sincerely given.
In Concrete Evidence, author DiAnn Mills transports the reader to the Texas Hill Country for an intriguing Christian Romantic Suspense story that will keep the reader guessing and turning the pages.
Avery Elliott helps run the family ranch and commercial construction business with her grandfather, retired Senator Avery Quinn Elliott Sr. Avery notices discrepancies in the accounting for the Lago de Cobre Dam project that their company recently completed. And if that isn't enough, she comes across her grandfather with a gun in his hand and a dead man on the ground of their family cemetery. Avery's world suddenly turns upside down when her grandfather disappears, and threats are made against their family. Avery is determined to find concerete evidence to prove that her grandfather is innocent.
FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins works in the FBI's Houston Office violent crime division along with his partner, FBI Special Agent Roden Clement. Marc's mother requests that he look into his estranged father, Colonel Abbott Wilkins' recent death from a heart attack. His mother believes that his father's death was from a threat of danger after he and two friends uncovered a federal crime which led to all three mens' deaths.
Avery Elliott requests Marc to help with her family issues, and they discover a connection after finding out that her grandfather and his father had been friends. With a killer taunting their every move, danger around every corner, and a hurricane brewing in the Gulf, Marc and Avery are determined to find and stop the person behind the sinister plot to destroy their families.
Author DiAnn Mills weaves a fast-paced and suspenseful tale that follows Avery Elliott and FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins when they team up to track down the person who is trying to destroy their families. Even when they engage in a dangerous cat-n-mouse game, they face a tangled web of deceit and betrayal, but are determined to put the pieces of the puzzle together and get justice.
I loved reading this action-packed story. Avery and Marc's investigation kept me intrigued as their unlikely partnership in finding the person threatening their families lives brings two people with a lot of baggage together, and how an unexpected attraction sparked between them mixed with humor and a stronger acceptance of Christian faith helped build trust between them during the investigation, and a chance at finding the truth and love along the way.
The reader will be easily drawn into this well written story with its richly descriptive plot that will keep them guessing as family dysfunction and secrets, possible suspects and motives, deceit and betrayals are uncovered during the investigation.
Concrete Evidence has enough drama, tension, action, dark secrets, a touch of romance, and unexpected twists and turns that will take the reader on one heck of a thrilling roller coaster ride.
Disclaimer: I recived a copy of the book from the author / publisher via NetGalley in exchnage for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Partners In Crime Tours.
"Times like these, she didn't understand God's hand. But that's why he was God, and she wasn't."
Whew, what a ride! I've heard a lot of good things about Mrs. Mills' writing, and believe me, it was all true! This is a masterfully crafted, clean and sweet, romantic suspense thriller. Concrete Evidence is a thrill ride that keeps you second-guessing your suspect list over and over, and leaves you breathless!
Also, you can tell she researched the topic of the dam and the possibility of widespread devastation really well. I know because my dad works as an electrical engineer for USACE at a local dam, and that's exactly what could happen in an emergency or disaster.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this complimentary e-book. A positive review was not required of me but was gladly given, and the thoughts above are my own.
Wow! Avery and Marc’s story is a high-octane race against time that kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next. The characters are well-rounded and likable. The plot moved along nicely with some great twists. The tension and conflict in this story were well placed. Just when you think they were safe, wham! Something else happens. This puts the reader right into the story, holding their breath. The author’s use of sensory is done effectively. It brings the words on the page to life. Loved it. Highly recommend Concrete Evidence.
This book started out great! It had a mystery and action from the beginning. It held my attention, and kept the pages turning. But the farther it went, the more things felt contrived. The romance felt forced, and the conclusion just doesn't make sense to me. It just feels...I'm not sure. Just not quite right.
*I received this ebook from NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.*
A dead body and questions regarding the stability of a dam bring FBI Agent Marc Wilkins to a Texas Ranch searching for clues. Favorite part of this one was the relationship between Marc and a newly discovered relative. I figured out who the villain was prior to the reveal but didn't know the reason why.
Thank you to the author for providing a copy for review. Avery Elliot, who runs a large commercial construction company, sees her beloved Grandfather, a retired state senator, standing over a dead man. He has a gun in his hand. Her grandfather disappears and urges her to do the same. Someone is out to get them. Avery goes into hiding but after several attempts on her life, she decides to fight back. With the help of FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins, she attempts to piece together her grandfather’s disappearance and its connection to the construction of a dam, now threatened by a raging hurricane. This is the second murder mystery thriller I’ve read by author Diann Mills and it did not disappoint. Tightly plotted with a strong female protagonist it’s a real page turner. The narrative explores family dynamics and has a strong Christian theme. Mills kept me guessing and threw in some great red herrings. Just when you’re certain you know who did it, you find out you’re wrong! I enjoyed the story and getting to know Avery and her family, as well as Marc and his relationship with his estranged father. The story has a sweet romance with a satisfying outcome. The Texas setting was fun for this Texas reader! I recommend this book to readers of murder mysteries/thrillers.
"Sometimes it takes more courage to run than fight a losing battle."
DiAnn Mills hits a grand slam with Concrete Evidence. This romance/thriller/suspense/Christian fiction is well designed, well developed, and definitely well executed, keeping readers guessing at who is responsible for so much Texas-sized chaos cutting loose all over the place.
Avery Elliott lives with her grandfather, Texas Senator Quinn Elliott, on his Brazos River Ranch, managing his construction business, helping troubled teen girls at her church, and steering clear of her parents who have not exhibited any parental care and love for her for years. FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins in Houston, Texas, has been estranged from his father for most of his life after he abandoned him and his mom, but when Colonel Abbott Wilkins dies unexpectedly, Marc quickly realizes how little he knows about his father.
Everything changes for Avery when she sees her grandfather with a gun in his hand and standing over a dead man on their ranch. Everything changes for Marc when his father dies but his mom insists it was not a heart attack and then tells him his father left behind a teen daughter, Tessa, from another relationship in Fort Worth. As Avery and Marc grapple with so many changes and uncertainties, they cross paths after Avery’s grandfather goes into hiding and tells her to contact Marc for help. What comes next is a bubbling cauldron of murder, betrayal, red herrings, bullets, an explosion, and a category-5 hurricane heading straight for Texas. Oh, and if that is not enough, love is in the air, and someone is putting peanut M&M's in his hot coffee (I may need to try that).
Concrete Evidence goes beyond a simple romance and a thrilling suspense. The plot and characterization hit the championship level, in terms of delivering superb storytelling and expertly tossing varied personalities together in difficult and dangerous situations, allowing readers to speculate and wonder how everything will play out. With that said, the pacing is rapid, and the action is unstoppable, so hang on tight. As an added bonus, Christianity and prayer play important roles in Concrete Evidence, providing glimmers of hope, courage, and redemption for the main characters.
While the romance between Marc and Avery, a fair amount of mystery and danger, and the hurricane in the gulf are all brewing, strengthening, and threatening total disruption, DiAnn Mills dispenses a few other important aspects to provide such an excellent story with even more depth. Concrete Evidence reveals that living a happy and productive life is way more than amassing wealth, conducting business deals, and wreaking political havoc. Life is about building true friendships and partnerships, staying the course amidst lies and character and physical attacks, learning to trust, never shirking responsibility, and reminding everyone what a loving family looks like. DiAnn Mills has proved over and over that she knows exactly how to deliver the complete package to her readers, prompting them to clear their schedules so they can barrel through her fabulous books, including Concrete Evidence. Don't miss out!
I received a free copy of this book from Lone Star Book Blog Tours in exchange for my honest review.
AUDIO BOOK REVIEW: WOW. DiAnn Mills has written an excellent suspense novel with an intricate plot where everyone's a suspect and danger is around every turn. I had no inkling of whodunit and was embarrassingly off the mark.
The premise of CONCRETE EVIDENCE really intrigued me as I have been a dam widow when my husband was a project manager for a reservoir and dam build in south Texas. He frequently traveled there as it was built and then inspected (and reinspected and reinspected) to finally open years after ground was broken. I remember when Hurricane Harvey hit how dams and reservoirs in the Houston area failed (not my husband's! I swear!). Serious business.
There are a plethora of characters, plots, and sub-plots to keep readers engaged, but fear not! Mills does a great job looping readers back in with reminders of who's who and what's what and plenty of red herrings that keep us enthralled and guessing.
"God doesn't cause a demolition unless He's planned a renovation."
But CONCRETE EVIDENCE is not all mystery and suspense; threaded between the murders and mayhem are tender moments of love and a steady stream of messages of faith. I appreciate that several characters actively pray when things get rough -- and that it's not always an easy thing for them to put their worries in God's hands. Also, throughout the story, characters often mention the benefit and importance of seeking professional counseling when life's burdens get too heavy. These pieces are organically included in the story and never feel false or preachy.
Parallel to the hurricane that is developing and threatening to unleash itself over Texas are the events unfolding and building tension for readers. The action-packed final chapters left this reader satisfied and relieved as I was able to let go of that breath I'd been holding. Terrific! I’ll eagerly await the next Christian fiction adventure Mills has in store.
ABOUT THE NARRATION (1 STAR): This narration didn't work for me at all. McCulloh's delivery felt stilted with odd gaps and pauses that didn't fit natural speech patterns -- and there's not a trace of a Texas accent in this very-Texas book. I could never find a comfortable speed for listening. 1x was painfully slow and unnatural; 1.3x was better but still off with those gaps. Additionally, there was very little change in voices, and without the visual cues of dialogue, it was very difficult to determine who was speaking. Fortunately, I had an eBook copy I frequently referred to (thank you, WhisperSync), but I would have preferred to have read this in print and honestly feel like the audio version does a disservice to the novel. Disappointing when CONCRETE EVIDENCE is such a stellar story.
Concrete Evidence by author DiAnn Mills is an exponential story. It kept my interest piqued from the beginning to the end. I was told this story was going to be an adventure and it turned out to be an edge-of-the-seat wild, wild unstoppable ride.
This well-plotted and fast-paced story centers around the main memorable characters of Avery, her granddad Senator Elliot, and FBI Special Agent Marc. Murder after murder occurs with those deaths being tied to a water dam in Texas. In the midst of this nonstop action story is a growing romantic involvement of Avery and Marc.
Concrete Evidence moves so quickly that trying to guess who is murdering who and who is the threat to all the main characters is pointless. And I mean pointless in a good way because this book leaves your brain breathless trying to keep up. This is Mills stellar best talent at keeping readers on the edge of their seats and making it quite hard to put the book down making no room for guessing until the near end.
The religious theme and romance play a big part in this story. The religious aspect is more so in this book than in other books by Mills that I have read. Maybe, just maybe will give you pause to reflect on your own beliefs. Loved the Epilogue in pulling the pieces together and concluding the story exceptionally well.
I highly recommend Concrete Evidence. If you love a story that reacts like an almost unstoppable wildfire around murders and investigations and is sprinkled with a hint of romance then check out Concrete Evidence. You will not be disappointed.
Christian suspense author DiAnn Mills’ latest work, Concrete Evidence explores issues of faith, trust, and hope on a ranch in the Texas hill country. Mills’ compelling novel provides the reader with intrigue right from the start, moving through twists and turns that include money, power, and danger.
Avery’s life begins to unravel when she witnesses her grandfather Senator Elliot standing over a dead man and she begins to question everything he represents. When her grandfather goes into hiding, Avery works with FBI agent Marc who is investigating the death of his estranged father. The story revolves around the puzzling deaths of two men and the possible use of inferior materials in the construction of a local dam built by Avery’s grandfather.
Different suspects move the story forward and keep the reader engaged. Relationships develop and ethical and spiritual questions arise as Mills explores difficult family dynamics. Some issues are resolved while other relationships remain unreconciled, a realistic reflection of true life. The novel left me pondering how misguided thoughts and actions impact so many people and sympathizing somewhat with the antagonist.
This was the second book I have read by this author, and I like how she weaves her stories with threads of faith and hope.
I received my copy of Concrete Evidence as a complimentary e-book through NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
Well-written with excellent plotting, this novel kept me in suspense until the surprising conclusion. It is the first time I have read this author's writing and I was pleasantly surprised as I found the quality of the writing good, the characters were relatable and there were very few clues as to who was the mastermind behind the heinous deeds being committed. Directed to FBI Special Agent Marc Wilkins, Avery Elliott III, cannot be sure who she can trust, little realizing that her life together with Marc's is more intertwined than she could have suspected. As the layers are peeled back, suspects start to emerge, but who is innocent and who is to blame, especially as the perpetrators have very successfully covered their trail? Standing together and fighting an unknown enemy, Marc and Avery develop a connection that blooms into romance, but one that cannot be fully explored until such time as the crisis has passed. Although Marc and his partner become Avery's protectors, they quickly realize that they are also in the killer's cross-hairs. Ultimately the novel comes to an excellent conclusion, bringing resolution and justice to those who need it. I received a copy of this excellent crime drama through NetGalley as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Concrete Evidence by DiAnn Mills is set on Brazos River Ranch in Texas where Avery Elliott manages the family business. She discovers her grandfather, a man she admires, may have murdered a man. Enter FBI Agent Marc Wilkins, who helps Avery sort out the mess her grandfather left behind after he disappears. The bad guys turn the tables and go after Avery when she gets too close to the truth.
What’s not to love about Concrete Evidence? I love books that start right in the action, and the shocking chapter one reeled me in. I also love books with a long list of suspects for me to try and figure out the who-dunnit. And there are plenty of suspects in Concrete Evidence, as Avery’s grandfather is a former senator with a long list of enemies. And finally, I love books that have a chase. Avery goes on the run, and Marc helps her pick up the pieces of her shattered life while keeping the bad guys at bay.
Definitely pick up a copy of Concrete Evidence on October 4th for an action-packed, suspenseful read.
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Avery Elliot’s life started out rough, until her grandfather pulled her into his charmed life. She oversaw the elements of both the construction company and vast ranch estate. Meeting with her grandad at the cemetery, she hoped to clear some discrepancies she found in the building of the last dam, only to find him standing over a dead man with a gun in hand. Was this the grandad she admired and adored, or had he been living a different life than she thought?
DiAnn Mills creates a masterful mystery and conspiracy with twists and turns you may not see coming! It’s a whodunit that will keep you guessing. Just when you think you have it figured out, you may be surprised by the reality of the situation. Mills’s skills in weaving together a tapestry of political maneuvering showed that the devil is in the details when trying to follow the clues.
Jealousy, revenge, manipulation, murder, and intrigue entwine to create a story that will take you on a roller-coaster of emotion. See if you can figure out who the true culprit is before FBI Special Agents Wilkins and Clement. Who will remain standing after this house of cards falls?
This book held my attention from page one. Mills' stories always have such unique premises, and this one is no different. How would you react if you found the grandfather you have loved and admired your entire life holding a gun over a dead body? That’s where Avery finds herself at the end of chapter one.
I loved how she had to find her identity apart from her grandfather in order to discover the truth that would set them both free. Until the very end, I was guessing who the hidden villain was, and the ending didn’t disappoint. Plus, the romance between Avery and Marc felt electric, and I appreciated Marc’s own personal struggle to forgive his father while uncovering the truth about his murder. There are so many layers of conflict, and it all weaves together seamlessly. Highly recommend!
Concrete Evidence is a romantic suspense set in Texas at the Brazos River Ranch. Avery Elliott finds her grandfather standing with a gun over a dead man. She wants to believe his innocence and contacts FBI special agent Marc Wilkins for help. Someone or several someone(s) are killing friends of her grandfather. While they are pursuing leads and trying not to get killed; they prepare for a hurricane that is on the way. There seems to be someone after them at almost after every turn. But, who is it and why? This is my first DiAnn Mills book and I really enjoyed it. I have since downloaded another book of hers and look forward to reading more from her back list. *I received a copy of this book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
You should wait to read this story until you can read it from cover to cover and all of your food and drinks are nearby :) Notify your friends and family that you can not be disturbed, that is how good this book is--you won't want to do anything else until you can figure out how the story ends.
I loved the strength of the main characters and the supporting characters were great as well I will be thinking about this book for quite a while.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. the opinions are my own.
I loved the Texas ranch setting in this one. Also loved the faith that Granddad and Avery shared, as well as Granddads strong and confident personality. This story had a lot of mystery, great characters, and a little romance. I felt like a majority of the story went on without really throwing out any pieces to the puzzle and I started to get bored with it. There seemed to be a long stretch where it seemed like nothing was going anywhere. But I did also enjoy that a hurricane was featured, because I always enjoy books with severe weather.
Concrete Evidence keeps you turning pages. I was sorry the book had to end. I wanted to continue the adventure. Senator Elliott’s Brazos River Ranch provided a charming setting for a suspenseful story. Avery, Tessa, Roden, and Marc were delightful and believable characters. I recommend Concrete Evidence to those who enjoy suspenseful stories of betrayal, sacrifice, and love.
Is Senator Elliot, his granddaughter, and his ranch manager being framed? After the death of Agent Marc Wilkins’ father’s death, his mother asks him to look into it. While investigating and protecting the senator’s granddaughter much is uncovered.
Completely entertaining and a good read. I loved this book. Crime, suspense, twister of who done it. Highly recommend. Very little romance, which is nice. Not the focus, relationships with all characters were.
