A savage man in an untamed land!
Jared Hawk was a gunfighter. His talent for killing was up for hire – if the price was right. His code was stay alive to deliver the goods and collect the dues, and don’t step aside for any man.
Philip Garrett hired Hawk to take him and his niece, Sarah Lee, through to Los Angeles, but a pack of professional guns blocked the road. Before Hawk reached the City of the Angels all his gun skills were brought to bloody use, and the old California trail was marked with gravestones …

I really liked The Sudden Guns. The action was fast and violent. Jared Hawk is definitely a gun for hire, a true mercenary, but he's also smart which means people are constantly underestimating him.

He does have his principles, like always finishing the job when he's given his word. But another principle is doing whatever it takes to stay alive...and in one scene, that plays out very differently than I expected. There's another scene that would definitely put him at the top of PETA's most wanted list; all I can say is wow!

There are flashbacks in this book that, for me, helped flesh Hawk out and make him a real person.

If you like your westerns on the violent side, I would definitely recommend this book.
