Black Ops Tag #1

Andy: Mission: Harvest Ranch Wedding

Rate this book
Enjoy this hilarious military romcom based around the wedding of the century from the dynamic writing duo of USA Today Bestselling Author Lucy McConnell and Ellie Thornton.

America has always dreamt of becoming a senator; but six months before she announces her run for office, she meets Captain Andy Phelps, a military police special investigator who dismantles her security system and kidnaps her from her second story bedroom in a matter of minutes.

In the most romantic rescue mission possible of course.

In a rush to marry before going public with her political aspirations, America and Andy’s worlds collide bringing four special investigators into the wedding party who want to take out the groom in a game of Black Ops Tag, an overbearing mother of the bride, a life-long sisterly feud, and a security team with major attitude.

With all of this going on, America and Andy will solemnly swear to defend and protect their wedding against all enemies, foreign and domestic, before they destroy the love that brought the two of them to the altar.

Hang onto your belly as you laugh your way down the aisle with this couple and their entourage including a bold and brassy Cuban lover, an undercover IRS agent, a neuro-diverse bridesmaid/bestie, a Latino dance instructor, a gun slinging cowboy, a woman full of double pregnancy hormones (twins!), and five hot military buddies who can smell trouble a mile away.

Andy: Black Ops Tag Mission: Harvest Ranch Wedding
A hilarious, busy, and a big ball of mess wedding week!

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱
- special investigator guys
- future politician heroine
- insta love
- clean romance
⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Plot:

America James has long dreamed of being a senator. 6 months before announcing her run for the office, she meets the love of her life, Andy, a military police special investigator. America wants to get married first before going public with her political aspirations. But the final week before their wedding is really testing them with a lot of problems:

- an overbearing mayor mother (of the heroine)
- an absent pair of groomsman and bridesmaid (what about the photoshoot?!)
- a woman pregnant with twins (who has obviously developed an addiction with Amazon boxes since she can't stopped buying online)
- a groomsman without a partner
- sisterly feud (cheers! ahem ambien ahem)
- one hell of a family dinner
- dance lessons
- a major let-down hunt
- the senatorial run
- security team with major attitude
- the Black Ops Tag

Love wasn’t the problem, but clearly compatibility was.

Andy and America started doubting their relationship. Will love conquer all? Are they really meant to be together?

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Review:

- We get to see how their relationship started on the prologue. After that was a fast forward to the hectic final week. So, we didn't really see A LOT of the Andy and America romance. We didn't actually see them fall in love.

- It's actually hilarious. There are parts that made me laugh, but there are parts that just threw me off balance. One example is the reason why the guys looked sleep-deprived before the scavenger hunt:

*silence*

WHAT IN THE NAME OF BOOKS DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?! I kept waiting for an explanation but there wasn't any. I don't know if I want to laugh or be horrified or whatever. I need some clarification here. What do you mean!!! 😭

- I like the friendships! Seeing them all together and their bondings was so fun!

- I am intrigued about the others' stories. I feel like Chris and Genny had some past encounters, if you know what I mean. That Brandon and Allie and Jo kidnapping thingy too.

- I like Bree with Joseph, but I kinda not like her alone. She's the quirky girl who doesn't know how to style herself but actually very pretty and cool. I feel like I'm supposed to admire her because she was written to have this "not your typical girl" vibes. I don't have a problem with quirky people (I'm quirky myself), she just doesn't appeal to me, sadly. She feels more like this robot with less personality than Bella Swan, but she's very smart and cool. The other characters are okay to me. Pete and Elena seems a cute match, jester guy and serious woman, so I was a bit saddened when America said *sad noises*

- There's about 3 or 4 mentions of why they call Chris "Maverick", but not a direct explation. I didn't know what Maverick meant until I searched it. I just hoped that there would have been a clearer explanation of what it means because I was lost.

- I like that the authors showed us the struggles of a relationship instead of just the sweet and mushy side. America and Andy doubted their compatibility. They learned that they didn't actually know everything about each other and love alone isn't enough to work everything out. Especially when you rush it.

- There's A LOT of problems, as I listed above, and not all of them were solved.

- The Black Ops Tag. I was confused at first. I didn't get it. Just adding here to explain. It's a game/practice where 4 people out of 5 in their boyband surprise the assigned group member with attacks. It was to keep themselves active in case their enemies decided to come after them and their family.

- I think it's better if they

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

All in all, it's just a cute romcom you shouldn't take too seriously. Just go with it; then you might enjoy.

I finished this book with the biggest, goofiest smile on my face. Even though there is some deep family drama within the pages, it’s handled with such a lightness of spirit and deft touch, that none of it feels as weighted down as you might otherwise expect from the subject matter. I adored Andy and America. I feel like these two are my new #couplegoals. And the ‘found family’ they create around themselves was just so much fun to watch in action. Now that I’ve seen the wedding from the one vantage point, I can’t wait to read the rest.

Andy and America have a lot of pressure prior to the wedding, partly from the team's B.O.T.s game but mostly from America's mother, to the extent that their future is in doubt. Their friends help stage an intervention and the pair do some soul searching. The characters are a lot of fun and we get interesting snippets into the lives of the other team members. The story has laughs, doubts, friendships and lots of love. Really enjoyable story.

This was a funny emotional read; America has grand plans and has been the god girl her whole life. When she decides to rebel a little, she meets Andy. In a world wind romance they are planning a wedding with lots on input by her mother.

I came into this book expecting shenanigans as these military men try to tag their friend out during his wedding festivities, what I got was so much more.
Andy and his friends are military police. They've put a lot of bad guys away, and have made a lot of enemies. Their games of Black-Ops Tag keep them sharp, and let off some steam. I loved getting to know these rugged and loyal men. I can't wait for the rest of the series to unfold.
I loved America and Andy together. There was great chemistry, and I loved how Andy could ground America and help her be more of herself. I loved to hate America's mom, and longed to tell her to back off!
There were so many nuggets in this story that seemed to be leading to future conflicts or relationships. I can't wait to see everything unfold. This looks like a series that will need to be read in order, and I will joyfully sign up for that mission!
The only thing I would change is that I wanted to see more of the black-ops tag. In some cases I know that they staged an attack on Andy, but I wanted those scenes.

Andy: Black Ops Tag Mission was so, so good!! I've been waiting for the stories of all of Brandon's buddies since they got introduced in Beehives and Broken Heroes, and to have a full series of them is pretty much a dream come true! After getting that prologue as a short story before the book came out, I was immediately hooked, and Andy and America's full story was everything we were promised there and more! There are more night escapades (don't worry, the authors write Sweet Romance), more swoony (and passionate) kisses, more fun and jokes going around thanks to Andy's team (and especially Pete), plenty of activities for all the bridal party to be involved in (thanks to America's planning with Genny's help), and more cameos of beloved past characters from the Harvest Ranch series (namely Allie, Jo, and Cash). However, not all is rainbows and roses (since which wedding happens without a hitch?) and there are also misunderstandings, an overbearing and controlling mother of the bride, as well as communication problems. Still, the ride to HEA is definitely worth it, and I loved the adventure it was to read about it (the photoshoots, the hunt, the guys still playing BOTs, horse riding, brownies, and so many more things that I loved about this book but that I can't possibly name them all). Seriously, it's simply really good if you're looking for a sweet, military (mixed with a bit of political) rom-com. I seriously can't wait to read more of Chris, Joseph, Pete, and the rest of the guys (and their girls 😉) ~ 5 stars and completely recommended!

I think the idea for a good book was there. It just didn't quite work for me. The relationship between our two main characters, Andy and America, was not very well-developed. I honestly wasn't sure why either one liked the other. Despite their insistence that it was about more than how the other one looks, it felt very much like it was based on looks.

There were several parts throughout the story where I felt like important information was left out. In some cases, it was just a matter of the information being told to us later in the story. In other cases, I was just left confused about what was going on. I think part of this is that this is part of a series. Looking at the other books in the series, it looks like all of them take place during this same time period, so by reading this book, I'm only getting a portion of the story.

I think the thing that annoyed me the most was Black Ops Tag (BOT). Even after getting an explanation of why these guys "play" this, it feels too much like a crazy game. It's supposedly to prepare them for a potential attack. Andy and his friends all appear to be in their 30s or 40s, but they act really childish. They are supposedly military or ex-military. If that's what's defending our country, I would be very scared for our future.

On a good note, this is a clean book. There is no swearing, sexual content, or graphic violence. Andy and his friends do engage in BOT, which involves sneak attacks of each other, but there's no violence toward anyone else.

I received a free ARC of this book through BookSirens, and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Bamboozled & Disappointed!

I just finished reading Andy: Mission: Harvest Ranch Wedding and feel completely bamboozled by this book's blurb and tagline: Romantic Comedy. I almost stopped reading it several times, but kept pushing through, hoping that things would take a turn for the better. They didn't. There was little romance and no comedy, just grown men acting like twelve-year-olds (until near the end of the book--their only saving grace). We dont get to see America and Andy fall in love, we get one chapter of them meeting and falling into insta-love on the same day, then the rest of the book is them struggling through a circus of week-long wedding "activities" while America's mom goes out of her way to make things her type of perfect and about America's future senate campaign rather than listening to either America or Andy, and America just sitting back and letting her.
Being an avid Lucy McConnell book fan, I've been looking forward to this book for months and was so disappointed. I hate giving negative reviews because I know a lot of effort goes into to writing a book, then polishing it and sending it out in the world. But I have to be honest here. I read the sneak peak at the end of the book for Chris and Ginny, and while I'm absolutely curious about their story and how they end up together, I'm not curious enough to read any future books in this Black Ops Tag series. That's about five hours of my life I'll never get back.

I have loved every single one of these books in this series, but I actually started the series on the second book. I have meant to go back and read Andy and America’s story, but I never had the time and didn’t have the book. So, when it was offered on BookSirens, I grabbed at the opportunity to own it. The series is basically all the friends getting ready for Andy and America‘s wedding. Since they are mentioned in all the other books, I feel like I knew them, but I didn’t know how they got together. Like all the others, this book is filled with romance, but not sappy, and so much humor. I love the friends and how close they are together. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be part of this huge military family? They are truly brothers. They compete like them, they fight like them, but they are there for each other. The women in the series are feisty, hilarious, but not obnoxious.

I wish these books could be made into audiobook form because I would love to hear the voices of the men. If they do it, please use male voices. Ha ha. The best thing about this series of books is that they are clean romances. There is also no profanity. It just goes to prove that you can have books like this, and still make them enjoyable to the reader.

I was given an advanced copy of this book for free, and I’m leaving my review voluntarily.

Not Humorous . . .

America (a woman’s name??) has always wanted to be a senator. Before she makes her official announcement about running for the position, she is suddenly kidnapped by Captain Andy Phelps, despite a security system he easily defeated and her bedroom on the second floor which never slowed him down -- and all within just minutes. Andy and his friends are military police and the Black-Ops Tag games keep them alert and responsive to surprises. But I don’t think they are appropriate in this story line.

The bride-to-be allows her mother way too much latitude in decisions ‘America’ should be making. I did not see this character being strong or decisive enough to be an effective Senator.

Unfortunately, when a story is so outlandish, or has weak characters where they should be admirable, I fail to see the “humor” when they do ridiculous (not funny) things. Nothing about the story line grabbed my (positive) attention. I just found myself liking it less and less as I read. I do not recommend this book. It was a disappointment, or maybe I just missed the joke.

I loved having more books to go off of black ops Tag! It was such a fun part of past stories in harvest ranch and having it expanded was wonderful. While there was A LOT of drama in this book, I feel like a lot of it made it even more fun. Many books just have one or two drama things but this kept adding more and more (some big and some small). The best part about all of the drama is it showed the true personalities of each person as well as their growth through the book. I did get frustrated at America often but as the story goes on, her behaviors make so much more sense and I felt the end tied it all up well (even though there are a few points I won't mention that I hope we have explained more in future books).

These two authors work so great together and it's fun to see them bring in so many aspects from thr Harvest Ranch series. I also love that while it has a lot of references, you wouldn't necessarily have to read the original series, but I feel it adds to it and helps you understand so many things.

I felt a little lost in this book. America and Andy went from sneaking out to planning a wedding and I was a little lost on how they got there. America seemed like she wanted to achieve great things but also a little said because live was passing her by while she was busy following the plan. I get the Andy helped her to have the life part of her life but other than that I just didn't get them. As the book went on, she definitely grew as a person with the help of Andy and his team and it was great to get a happily ever after with no cliffhanger but something just felt off the whole time.
I don't know if I will read one of the other books or not. I saw another reader saying it felt like she was dropped in in the middle and I agree. What about Brandon and his wife and the barn burning? I just honestly don't know about this book.

Really enjoyed reading this fun enjoyable romantic comedy.
America and Andy are planning their wedding, but it is a challenge. With Andy's military freinds wanting to play B.O.Ts in secret,America trying to organise and plan everything to perfection from arranging dance lessons and wanting to pamper everyone it is not going to plan.
Add in her overbearing mother, her disgruntled sister's and the grumpy security team her mother has hired and it's turning into a disaster.
Read America and Andy's story now to find out if their wedding goes to plan and how they finally get to their HEA.
This is the first book i have read by Lucy and Ellie and it will not be the last.Cannot wait for the next book in the series.

It was fun returning to Harvest Ranch, Virginia for the wedding of America James and Captain Andy Phelps.  This book had so much fun banter between the characters that made me laugh.  Poor America because Pete really had fun with her name when he met her.
I liked the many funny moments including the one with the Poo-Pourri.  The book held my attention with the wonderful, strong characters, the pre-wedding week antics, the wedding stress, and miscommunications.  America's mom, Helen, the Harvest Ranch mayor, sure was quite interesting in this book.
I enjoyed how the B.O,T,s team came together to help America and Andy. What a fun, romantic story.  I am so glad these two authors have teamed together to write this series!  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reaching this story about America and Andy. This was the most certainly a very clean romance, but the characters were fantastic, and the storyline flowed smoothly.

When Andy meets America at his friends wedding, he never knew that he would meet his future wife America. America is running for the Senate and she had to sneak out to find some time on her own away from her mother, and when her dad‘s car broke down, Andy was there to save the day. Their courtship was an easy conquest right up to the week of their wedding, events happened that was something that neither of them had bargained for. There is a happily ever after, and with the help of friends, their wedding takes place.

Andy: Mission: Harvest Ranch Wedding~Black Ops Tag Military #1 By Lucy McConnell & Ellie Thornton

This book is brilliant, funny, romantic and has been written brilliantly, with wonderful characters that you fall in love with right from the start.
I have read all 5 books now, this being the last,( I know it's book 1 but I started in the middle) so I knew what was going to happen. The characters are so believable that you feel that you know them and that you too are there.

This is Andy and America's story, and each book takes place at the same time but from different perspectives from the Black Ops team.
A fun enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it to all.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Inspirational, Original, Page-turner, Realistic,
and Wonderful characters

Andy vs the mom-zilla. America for the win

Wow!wow!wow! What an awesome start to the series and a great intro to this group of MPs of the 76th and the women who love them. The BOTs was definitely more than a nuisance and a game-it was a way to keep them alert and alive. Between all the heavy there is crazy and laugh out loud giggling moments that cause everyone around you to look at you strangely. You have the over-the-top mother who manipulates everything to her agenda with no thoughts to feelings involved- in her view its definitely mother knows best. I can’t wait to read the rest of their stories- their love and camaraderie for everyone in their group is more family than blood.
Clean and wholesome with a major serving of belly laughs on the side.

This is book 1 in McConnell and Thornton's Black Ops Tag series. A military comedy that is sure to please. This is such a well written, fun and captivating read. A perfect balance of sweet, heat and laughs. I am obsessed with these characters and the brotherhood between them. I actually read CHRIS first so I'm a little out of series order but I'm so glad I was able to go back and read ANDY. America and Andy and the perfect couple and our other characters bring in laughs that make this book and this series one you won't want to miss! I can't wait for more in the military men who like to have some fun in the midst of all the trouble!

I've read the other books in this series but hadn't read this one. I was already familiar with Andy and America's characters but it was wonderful to finally read their story and learn about their journey to happily ever after.

America is in politics and wants to be the next senator for her state. She is also marrying Andy who is a special ops military guy with lots of military friends. They have each other's backs so when one goes down the aisle, they all will be there to support him. America and Andy both had lessons to learn along the way to becoming a couple and what that meant they had to change to adapt.

This is such a well written series with lots of laughs and sweet, swoon-worthy moments.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

A warm romantic comedy. Andy and America met in an earlier title in the Black Ops Tag stories. This is the story of their wedding and the antics of the 76th special investigators, Andy's family. America's more traditional family: two parents and two sisters provide additional amusing hijinks: in point, the villain of the peace, America's mom.

The antics and hijinks in this story provided quite a few twists and turns. Each time it smooths out, some drama derails things. The tale doesn't reach its HEA until the main characters mature. Nonetheless, it is an enjoyable story.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Romantic. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

America dreams of becoming a senator, but sometimes she just wants to be like everyone else. Her mother has ruled her life through beauty pageants and political events. Leaving a party, she runs into Captain Andy Phelps, a military police special investigator, and her life changes. She wants to marry before running for senate and plans a week of activities for his buddies who are also military police. It does not take long before she has offended Andy and his buddies. She also has a problem standing up wo what she wants to do. I thought the activities were creative yet did not match the wedding party’s thoughts on what they would enjoy. America’s mother was too overbearing for me.

Although I enjoyed reading this story, I thought it could be shorter as there are parts of the dialogues that are repeated (I believe to emphasize the idea or the feeling). I also found that Andy - the story - is not so funny, it's more about friendship, loyalty, and how parental figures can interfere in the development of the full potential of children/adults. It also stresses how the lack of adequate communication has an impact on people's lives and how the definition of perfect is different for every single person.

Andy: Mission: Harvest Ranch Wedding is a clean, fun, military romantic comedy. America and Andy are an interesting couple. In her mother's perfect view, America would never have met Andy, but he is perfect for her. This well written book has lots of miscommunication. America's folks were clueless about providing security. Andy and his buddies could really have helped on that front! I enjoyed seeing how this couple would overcome all the obstacles they encountered. I am looking forward to book two

Andy: Mission Harvest Ranch Wedding

This is a hilarious book full of laughter. There are a few other surprises in store because this is a B. O. T. S. book. America has plans to run for the senate but what happens when an interesting man rescues her at a friend’s wedding celebration? Andy rescues America when her car doesn’t start thus starting a whirlwind courtship. Their wedding will be the event of the year in Harvest Ranch if her mother, the Mayor, has anything to say about it. Will the couple be able to make it through the pre wedding activities and to the altar?

More ridiculous than funny:
The goings on in this story came across as more juvenile than hilarious and I am afraid it didn't appeal to me. It was marketed as being a rom-com, however romance hardly featured at all and it rather centered on the actions of a group of friends leading up to the wedding. There was plenty of family drama but again a lot of what transpired was too over-the-top for me.

I loved this book. The premise with the military friends going through a wedding where the bride is running for Senate. I loved the antics of all the guys but also their love for each other as friends. It was great. Andy was amazing with America was a very interesting couple. I am glad that it wasn't everything nice throughout the story and that America finally realized she needed to live her life for her and Andy, not for her mom. A great story. I need to read the others. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a fun story about things that can go wrong while planning a wedding. There is lots of things that went right but that wasn't where the laughs were. America is under a lot of stress getting ready for the big day but she discovers some things about herself that help her make sense of her life. I enjoyed the crazy relationship between Andy and his friends and I look forward to getting to know them better.

Why the controlling mother?

I’ve read a lot of books this year with a mother that I want to slap. I honestly skipped 4 or 5 chapters because I couldn’t take the mom. Pete is also ridiculous. I love Lucy McConnell but definitely not my favorite read by her. That mom...I’m 58, both a mom and a grandmother. I would have told her to back off a long time ago, not when she finally does.
