I’ve always made safe decisions. I resisted temptation and followed the rules of engagement. It was how I stayed safe. But when a handsome playboy decides to play knight in shining armor, I found myself immediately swept off my feet and decided for once to indulge a little. I didn’t realize I was being charmed not by a white knight but a dangerous rogue instead.
Now, as a shadow threatens to eclipse my life, I have to figure out how to hold my own against his charm and his increasing need to rescue me. What he doesn’t realize? I’ve never been the one to wait around and let others do the work. Can this damsel in distress learn to fight fire with fire and become a self rescuing princess… or just this once, should I give in to temptation?
Seductive Desires can be read as a standalone novel, though the story is interconnected with the other books in the Mafia Wives Club series.
A.F. Montoya is a daydreamer turned writer who writes contemporary mafia romances. She’s been reading romance novels since her mother bought her one as a joke when she was a teen and now writes them and shares them with her mother, much to her chagrin. She enjoys reading in her spare time and supporting other authors. When she isn’t writing or thinking about new book ideas she is supporting her husband and kids.
It was good but not great. Mateo didn’t come across as a strong businessman at all.
Mariana is a curvy Latino lady, who works for an artist while she’s at college. When she meets Mateo at a showing of her bosses work, they end up having sex in a closet. She gets scared, (AFTER THEY HAVE HAD SEX!) and runs off. Mateo is a billionaire playboy who she’s convinced is too hot for her, and he only wants sex. So she pushes him away, then snogs him, then pushes him away, you get the idea. I didn’t really get why he put up with her.
After nothing really happens in the first half of the book, all of a sudden there’s a plot with her stepbrother. Which was really bizarre. As he wasn’t mentioned before this. All of a sudden she’s in danger and staying at Liam and Jo’s house, while there’s a lot of talk about how to resolve the situation.
When I first started reading this book I was really excited, as finally a woman who has friends and a life. Except her childhood was so bad it’s screwed her up, and her gay best friend/boss isn’t exactly supportive of her. So when she meets Mateo who she could fall in love with, I got whiplash from her! One minute she’s jumping him, the next she’s labelled him as a playboy who only wants sex with her. To be honest, I wasn’t massively keen on either of them.
Then there’s Mateo who is a money launderer for the mafia, and he comes across as a wimp. I was trying to imagine this really gorgeous bloke, but I just couldn’t do it. He ends up in the hospital twice as he couldn’t fight people off. Then he’s terrified of his own mother, which I think the author was trying for amusing, but I didn’t get that. I actually missed Liam and Dmitriy.
Ok, it’s a good storyline. Should work well. But doesn’t. The MMC is not alpha enough. At all!!! Not enough information about him. He’s almost like a secondary character. We know very little about it and as the entire book is told from the perspective of the FMC, we develop no buy in to him. There’s no connection.
I read the first 2 books in the series, which were very good, so was looking forward to this one. But unfortunately it does not fulfil its potential.
The FMC is a little annoying. Frankly , if I was tormented by some psychopath, who’d killed my previous bf and was chasing me all over the country, causing me to live in fear, and I had the Irish Mafia and Russian mobsters at my beck and call you can bet I’d be saying, “guys do your thing!”
Her constant will I, won’t I in regard to her main lead was irritating and made my head spin.
I hope the rest of the series go back to the format of the first two books or I’m not sure I’ll finish the series.
Now don’t get me wrong the authors writing is great, it always is. The book is good, the plot is decent and the smut is spicy. But she does have a few flaws that normally drop her a star and this book had all of them unfortunately. Mateo comes across as a huge wimp. Like he’s trying to act macho and tough but he just doesn’t have it in him. He’s also a huge mamas boy which you don’t find out until the end. He’s the main flaw in this book. But the author also generally focuses only on the women and their backstory which leaves it hard to connect with the male lead. You don’t know if he has siblings, how old he is, if he’s good with numbers and that’s why he’s a good criminal. Nothing pretty much. He also comes across as immature and young, ditching his security team all the time and then pouting about it. So objectively the book is great but just not for me.
This book is so good that I couldn’t put it down. It has fascinating characters, they are tough, hard core Mafia men. Then you have their wives and they have a sense of humor, are totally in love with their man, and sometimes argue with their man to get their point across. Their men would do anything for their women and have guards to protect them. This book is amazing, full of drama, twists and turns, suspenseful, intrigue, lots of action, it is funny in parts, sexy, steamy, sizzling, and full of chemistry.
Another sweet, funny, sad story that makes you laugh and cry! Loved it! I have to say I really love this series! I hope all of Montoya’s books have a similar feel!
A little slow in the middle. Mateo was a little dumb at the end and was hard to get a sense of him as anything other than a laid back playboy. The best part was I'm Mexico and the epilogue.
