When I chose "The Lone Wolf” as a title for my collection of "wolf inspired” prose, my thinking was Drawing parallels between the predator wolf, the lone wolf, the Alpha wolf, and the Alpha Personality in man, highlighting the traits that unite yet define each. * We are individuals, ergo "lone"* We are honor-bound, loyal, loving, and fierce, ergo "wolf"* We embody traits that protect, teach, and love our Pack, ergo "Alpha"* We generally mate for life, in our heart of hearts, and in our soul* Man and wolf are the upper echelon of beasts with an honor code and react similarly to any threat or breach. We are one * We are lone * We are Alpha * We are Alpha Wolves
I knew Ashley Jane, Gypsy Mercer and Angie Shea the illustrator, and this is the reason I found out about this book and wanted to purchase and read it. Sometimes when friends write books you say positive things to encourage and support them but if you were really honest, you would not chose those books as recommendations outside of your friendship. This is not the case with The Lone Wolf. I have long appreciated the well written candor of Gypsy Mercer's work and she is steady in her ability as a writer, to convey powerful emotions through poetry. Likewise, I have purchased and read all of Ashley Janes work and know her to be an excellent editor and writer in her own right. What stunned me most was the front cover design by Angie Shea. What an incredible piece of art work and it absolutely is perfect for this gorgeous book of poetry and thoughts. I am excited to see what this talented artist can do next. It doesn't surprise me that friends of mine in this poetry world would produce such a lovely book but that doesn't make me any less proud. They are all in their own right, talented writers and creatives, and this book is testimony to their combined efforts to produce a true piece of art. Gypsy Mercer's work can be found online in multiple writing communities and is one to watch out for, she's a very talented writer as well as a genuinely compassionate human being and if you purchase this book you will not be disappointed. She's really good at what she does. This book exemplifies what women can do when they come together and support one another. Which in of itself is indicative of the power of women writing.
Gypsy Mercer’s poetry book, The Lone Wolf, makes me want to sit back on my haunches and howl at the Moon, then wait for my mate’s echoing call in the night.
As both poet and narrator, Gypsy Mercer’s fluid storytelling skills gives us the front row seat as seen through her main character, the Alpha wolf. We vividly see, hear, smell, and feel our way, page by page, change by change, as this tale unfolds.
The Lone Wolf reminds us that we are not that far removed, or different, from animals that we share the planet with. Gypsy weaves with prose to anthropomorphically show the allegory between human emotions and wolf instinctual behaviors.
This book of poetry is one I will curl up with repeatedly.
The Lone Wolf is a work of mesmerizing art. Every single page is unique and perfect. Every single poem howls and roars through my soul. I inhale the passion and the yearning and I taste the depths of the moon inside every word. The pages are so so beautiful. The pictures give a truly magical touch to every single page. I wished to both read through each page quickly, but at the same time I caught myself gazing at every image. A beautiful work of art. I highly and deeply recommend this book!
In Mercer’s third book, she detours from her gypsy muse to give you a glimpse of a different side of her. The Lone Wolf is about the merger of man and wolf as well as the blending of two alpha souls. She illustrates this with poetry that highlights the similarities between them: the need for love, the need to protect, the need to teach. The words are paired with beautiful art and photos that help emphasize each line. I also loved the cover art. If you love the fierceness of wolves and warriors, you’ll love this book.
Beautiful book. Sent to me as a gift, by a good friend that knows that I raise and am around wolves now for almost 20 years. The Title got me a little off as "The Lone Wolf" is never a happy wolf. Once you get into the book, you understand that the author most certainly understands the temperament of wolves. I also believe she shows that the happy wolf is everything other than a lone wolf. Very social creature. Intelligent, playful, cunning, quick, trustworthy, and protective. I really enjoyed reading this. The words she writes show a deep understanding of these creatures and make me believe she has or is around them closely. I suspect that she has looked into the eyes of a wolf from only 6 inches away. Be this as it may, I do recommend this book as a keeper. Thanks to the person that sent this to me.
