Pick up a penny. Heads, I'll have bad luck. Tails, I'll have your bad luck.
My life wasn't supposed to go this way. I wasn't supposed to be wandering the streets and sleeping behind dumpsters.
I had dreams of how to get out of being homeless. It was all planned out, and sure it would take some time. I just never thought the way I got off the streets was by being kidnapped by two merciless twins.
PENNY is a novella with mature adult/captive romance themes. This is book one in a duology and does end on a cliffhanger.
We got the gritty part of being homeless from Emily she had an okay life before but she did struggle with making money she loves art trying to sale it on the street so she can eat or live in her apartment. Now present time shes homeless asking for anything and that attracts her to Connor a messed up guy who works for his mob boss abuse father trafficking woman witj his twin brother Liam who he butts heads with many times. Connor I had mix feelings you'll hate the man like HATE! He does some terrible things and that mouth 🥵🥵🥵. But he grows on you by the end and I felt sad for him. As for his twin Liam I still don't know what I feel for him since we didn't get to much of him I wanted more but with the stuff we did hes still a mystery. With them 3 together it's emotions all around wondering if Liam would stand by them or do what his dad says. It's a hard call there relationship is not easy we do get delicious moments I wanted more between all 3 but we are getting that in book 2.
There's a cliffhanger and be warned it's pretty sad. I can't wait for book 2.

These twins have my cold black heart 🖤🥺 This book is dark dark dark but I love it so much. Penny (Emily) is so strong and resilient, she gives these men a challenge and they love it! Not gonna lie, definitely was crying by the end and NEED the next one 🥵. Allie, you created a piece of art and I’m so thankful you gave me the chance to witness it before the release.
Fav Quote😉: “People didn’t deserve dogs.” (It’s so true 😢)
Seriously fav quotes because I couldn’t choose: - “if I had to be a slave, I yearned to serve them and then alone. - “Next time, this won’t be wasted. It will be slammed deep inside you.” 🥵
*PLEASE CHECK TW!* This was Allie’s debut novel and I was really impressed! Penny is down on her luck and ends up in the sights of Connor and Liam. They try to fight the connection that’s happening but it’s impossible. The spicy scenes brought the heat. And I was expecting that cliffhanger! I’m just like damn 😅 I need to know what happens now!
Penny by Allie Stern was a very interesting read. I gave this a four out of five star rating.
TW: being held against one's will, sexual assault, violence, sex trafficking
For a story about being held against your will j really enjoyed it. I like Penny's character and how strong willed she was. I wish I was like that but I know I'm not. I liked the twin brothers but I wish they got out of their situation. I wish we got more back story of the twins lives but also Penny's life too. I like the bond of all three of them. I feel horrible about how Liam and Connor were raised. I am excited to see what happens in the next book.
This book may contain, but not limited to: Off-Page Loss Of A Pet & Resounding Grief, Graphic Sexual Intercourse, Violence, Graphic Language, Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Mental Health, Physical Abuse, Domestic Abuse, Non-Consensual Sexual Scenes, Dubious Consensual Sexual Scenes, Sex-Trafficking, Depression, Suicidal Ideation, Suicidal Actions, Addiction, Alcoholism, Degradation, Games & Lies, Abandonment.
This story is about three broken people who all have been beaten down all in different ways. I broke my heart for both Conner and Emily. Even Liam in his own way. Ends on a cliffhanger, told in MPOV. Beware of TW there is open present rape during the book. Moving to book two.
Really enjoyed Allie’s debut novella. The story has such an interesting plot line , that it’s bound to keep you wanting more. The story follows Penny and the twins ( Connor and Liam ).
Penny , this poor girl , she’s been through a lot in her life , and then one day she thinks that her life would change for the better , instead she ends up in the arms of a very notorious trafficking family. The twins try to stay away from the connection they feel towards her but that is impossible , in their situation.
There were quite a few spicy scenes in this story, and it fit the narrative quite well.
I would have to say that I wish there would’ve been a bit more character development, or more of a back story to all of them. And I know that there was some and that this was just a novella , but to me it felt like there were chunks of their personality missing.
Overall, I did enjoy the story , tho I didn’t expect such a dark and twisted cliffhanger , I mean that definitely came out of nowhere 😅.
This book was so addicting! Penny is a captor, mfm romance featuring a set of twins. These twins are so dark and I was here for it! Penny (Emily) has had a lot of bad luck which has made her strong and resilient. She is the perfect match for the twins and challenges them at every turn. I devoured this book and I need the next one asap!
5⭐️ 3.5🌶 4.5🔥4⚠️ 4⛈How does a beautiful young woman with a bright future become homeless trash and men with good hearts become monsters? Do you believe in bad luck or does everything happen for a reason? This captivating dark romance story, by author Allie stern, explores these questions while taking us on an interesting ride that skates the line between terrifying and exhilarating. I absolutely loved this first book in the Finders Keepers Duet, and can’t wait to find out what happens in the second!
GOOD ✅ ✅I found the story captivating. I was super interested in understanding where these characters were coming from and what was about to happen to the FMC next. ✅I enjoyed the character development of the brothers, especially Connor. These men are definitely anti-heros, but through vivid flashbacks, we are able to understand why they became bad men and the dire reality of their situation; they are just as much a captive as their victims. ✅I liked the accurate portrayal of how easily a person can become homeless. I thought this story gave a good example of how individuals can become homeless, not just because of mental health or addiction problems, but because they have no familial support system and, therefore, run out of viable options when bad circumstances or tragedy hit. ✅I enjoyed the writing, especially the writing of the spicy scenes. Super hot! I also found the building tension between Emily and Liam to be exciting and sexy. I’m hungry for the hot twin sandwich that is slowly being prepared for us in this first book!
BAD ❌ ❌ (personal preference) This book is on the shorter side and I would have loved an extra 50 pages of relationship development and sexy smut.
Overall, I really liked this first book. Definitely check triggers. If you like a mafia/organized crime, enemies to lovers, dark romance, then you will love this book!
Emily "Penny" is a downtrodden heroine, seemingly cursed by misfortune, yet possesses an inner steel and perseverance that made this story bittersweet, angst-filled, and sexy. Having lost her job and almost evicted, she barely escapes the fire that consumed her small apartment. Still, she is a woman of practical and modest objectives, and she holds onto one keepsake. She is homeless, living the street until she meets and is taken by Connor. Connor, like Emily, is a tormented character, broken in different ways. He claims her for his family's sex trafficking business though torn to possess her as his own.
The author's portrayal of the utter hopelessness and affliction surrounding, consuming Emily was rendered so well that I could feel her despair. Connor lived in turmoil; his insecurities disguised in gruffness, carelessness, and disinterest, and by all appearances, weakness to his cruel father. Burdened as the older, irresponsible brother who only wanted to play the guitar and compose music, their jagged attraction to each other fit, their commiseration making them whole. Enter twin brother Liam, favored son and perfectly organized, a foil by behavior to Connor, but he had his own coping mechanisms in this splintered tale. With an attraction to Emily, he also played a fitting piece in their relationship, each character possessing essential complements that made them a fulfilling whole.
A minute while I discuss the spice. These characters were most certainly attracted to each other, a bit of insta-attraction, but I didn't mind. Loved it, in fact. This story was steamy, lovely delicious primal, sometimes dubious, relations.
I enjoyed the pace. Although a shorter plot, the development was fluid and progressive. It delivered quite a punch of emotions, humming with an arousal of pleasure tinged with sadness and burgeoning love. Dark themes, for sure, but it wasn't a dark story for me. It was more emotionally wrenching especially as the characters' lives were depicted.
There were no perfect characters in this tale: Great depiction that were the spectrum of despicably villainous to morally grey and charming. A theme of bad boys can have good intentions but only with their girl. I can't wait for book 2.
Emily has always been followed by a dark gloomy cloud of bad luck. Bouncing through the system, losing her job and to top it all off, he only means to make a buck has just gone up in flames. Homeless and just looking for her happiness, which looks like an RV parked in the forest with a four legged fur baby by her side. That ugly gloomy cloud just won’t go away and let her be happy though, instead she lands herself in a situation that may or may not be worse than being homeless, having all your choices stripped from you against your will, well she chose to get into that truck so she may have done this to herself. Playing the viċtim was never her style though, but she would play the part if it meant she’d keep breathing.
The Kilbane brothers may be identical twins but they are nothing alike. Connor is impulsive, unhinged, and emotional, while Liam is controlled, organized, and caring. They were born into the life they never wanted, a life full of darkness, money, and sėx. Their father was ruthless, void of emotion, and only sees women as his property. While Connor was strong enough to stand up to their father even if it landed him thrown in the river, Liam just wanted a family; he wanted his fathers approval when he should have been more loyal to his brother. Now they find themselves rethinking how their future will look all because a girl off the streets got into Connors truck. They had rules but for some reason she was different, she saw their true colors, while fear and lust swam in her eyes she may be their undoing.
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Oh Allie your first book baby has me HOOKED! This book is not for the week please read and respect the TW they for you to take seriously. This book is a dark duet, both books are out so no waiting after the crazy cliffy we are left with. Emily is doing the best she can with the situation at hand, while Connor and Liam fight urges they’ve never had with any other project as we will call them. Will they all survive the war they are about to enter? To be continued..
I can't wait for this second book in this series. It left off a cliffhanger so I'm starving for what's going to happen next. Emily, Connor and Liam were just getting started and I can't wait to see where their relationship progresses!
The book started off super dark with Emily being homeless and Connor picking her up because he was under the assumption that she was an addict and he thought she'd be easy to manipulate. I've never read a book where the main H characters were sex traffickers but here we are. There's definite non-con in this book so be aware.
I did love Emily/Penny. She was a strong character that was down on her luck but seemed to assimilate well no matter the circumstances. It seemed like she was thawing Connor's darkness, which I loved! I love when the heartless character develops the feels!
Liam was an amazing character as well. More controlled, less sensitive and way OCD. I can understand his character in that regard. When Connor left his dirty dishes in the sink, I about had a panic attack as well. But that's what I love about this book. We have two of these brothers that have an immense amount of love towards one another but are so polar opposite that they enrich the storyline so well.
Like I said, I can't wait for more from these characters and where the storyline goes! Definitely going to continue and hope we see the dad suffer a terrible death.
So proud but in other news this book is grittyyyy and dark and sexy and good. So please check ya TW first and foremost - is it bad the dog one was the one that got me the most😅
The story follows Emily who finds herself homeless and on the streets with little hope left. Until she finds herself in the sight of Connor - twin number 1 - who takes her in, determined to change her for their family business. Fair warning you will hate Connor - he is a perfect evil MMC who has a magic mouth 🥵. This book follows their dynamic and journey whilst alongside twin number 2, Liam. So this is a MFM romance and I defs want more group action in book two.
But then it ends on a BRUTAL cliffhanger but so worth it. Also a pretty quick read and one I think you should definitely add to your TBR.
Wow, this book was crazy, but in a good way. It was deliciously dark and twisted! I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book!
Each character struggles with one or more issues, and you just feel for them, even Connor.
Emily/ Penny has faced many challenges; unfortunately, her apartment burned down, causing her to become homeless.
Connor picks Emily up on the side of the road and takes her back to his place, forcing her to be his captive and training her to be a worker in his family's business.
Connor is twisted and psychotic, and his character will turn some heads, but I loved getting bits of his past and slowly understanding why he is the way he is. I can't wait for the next book to learn more about Connor's twin brother Liam.
Allie Stern is a new author to me, but I really enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to see what happens in Penniless.
So this story was so beyond messed up but I couldn’t stop reading. This is a new author for me and I haven’t seen this book recommended anywhere in my fb groups surprisingly. It’s like the same books recommended all the time. I came across this so randomly, and was really surprised. Honestly if this were a writer I was more familiar with I probably would’ve given this a 3, but bc the story is so bizarre and I loved that she didn’t really sugar coat things. I did feel so bad for Connor. It seems he really had an inferiority complex with his twin. I wonder if Emily caught that when she was playing her games with him, it seemed he really just wanted her to choose him although she was drawn to Liam despite knowing Liam was playing mind games with her .
I was a bit confused at the ending. I’m guessing she’s got some trauma that had hardened her to just accept things for how they are vs crying over the unfairness. I’m interested in reading book 2

This novella was so fast paced I blew through the whole thing in a blur. Check your trigger warnings because this novella is both dark and spicy. The plot interesting, and I loved he theme of pennies, bad luck, and finders keepers. The theme was delivered rather well, and the name suits the book perfectly. I loved the characters and the plot of this book. I think my only complaint is that the beginning felt a little rushed, and the book could have been a little longer. That being said by the end I was hooked. The cliff hanger at the end pulled together the themes once again and wrapped it in a pretty bow. This book is for those who love a dark MFM romance where the men are brutal and unforgiving but also possessive and all consuming. For those who love a kidnapping turned romance well this is a quick easy read bathed in dark themes that keep you flying through the pages.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤. I didn’t know how I felt about it at the beginning. The characters, while very well written, didn’t call out to me until a few chapters in. Their main persona was definitely not my favorite. But that’s all it was, a mask. What was underneath did call out to me. I felt their pain and the unfairness life threw at them. It pained me to see them so broken down. While the Kilbane brothers weren’t my favorites at the beginning, I saw the potential they could reach and that’s what made this a one-day read. I needed more. I needed to know what would become of them. And Penny... the woman is a force to be reckoned with. I admired her braveness and her determination to be her own person. The cliffhanger killed me! I enjoyed this story and I’m ready for more!
A good book with a down on luck girl and 2 men raised in a messed up world. All three want pretty much the same thing and is to escape.
Poor Emily with nothing but herself and her greatest possession left in this world falls pray to Connor and Liam. Connor and Liam are twin brothers stuck in a bad world ran by their father. When these three are together they find escape with each other but like all good things something always goes wrong.
Reading this I felt so bad for Emily that I just wanted to hope on in and help her. She is so strong to do what she has done just to try and make things better. And poor Connor and Liam to be raised like that. Can’t wait to find out what happens with these three in the next book
Penny is down on her luck and became homeless after a fire burned down her apartment. Then Conner comes across her and decides she can become a new escort for his families illegal sex work business. He takes her in and starts the training process and then his twin brother Liam comes to help him since he is more proficient at breaking in girls to the life style. Lines start to blur and feeling start getting involved between all three of them. Then in the end Conner let’s Penny leave to escape being sent to his fathers since he messed up a contract but she doesn’t make it down the street before she is abducted and that’s where the author left us on a cliff to see what happens next.

Emily has lived a life of struggles and after a fire that destroyed her home she’s now on the streets that’s until the one of the twins picks her up and holds her hostage until he can sell her to the highest bidder.
I liked Emily’s character she is a real tough cookie and the constant fight in her despite everything she has been through was admirable.
Connor and Liam I think are just misunderstood with the up bringing they have had I think it’s hard to come out of that and not be a little screwed up.
The ending was the toughest part, I really felt for Emily and Connor, I hope they get a happy ending in book 2. But the part about Bubbles had me emotional.
This is a novella about Penny & the Twins (Connor & Liam). Right off the bat with this being Allie’s debut novel I was impressed! The spice was written well & it was hot! The dirty talk was very enjoyable lol. The tension between the characters was there as well. Now I know this is a novella, however I do wish there would have been more character development. I kind of felt like I was missing pieces of them through out the book & then it ended so quickly, I was left still wanting a bit more. I also wish we would have gotten more conversation between all of the characters, there was quite a bit of inner monologue happening & I feel like that may have been part of the reason why I wanted more from the characters.
The story/plot was good, it was a quick read for me! I’m hoping we get more from them in the future & recommend this if you’re wanting a quick smutty read to pick up!
I loved this book! For a novella it kept your attention without feeling like everything was rushed to fit. This book was amazing and I feel like everyone should give it a chance and read it. That being said it is dark so please CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS. Penny had so many things I love in a book dark, twisted, spicy, and TWINS 😍🤤! Ended on a huge cliffhanger that has me needed the next book right now! I’m so excited for the next book and whatever else Allie comes out with in the future.
This was a dark read, and though it was a shorter story, I enjoyed it and read it in one sitting. Poor Penny believes she absorbs everyone's bad luck, and after living on the streets for months, she is taken by a guy with not really the best intentions. Somewhere along the way, however, his feelings about what to do with Penny change, but the world he (and his twin) are involved in, is not one you can just up and leave easily. The story flowed well, and was easy to get drawn into. That cliffhanger though?! I will definitely be waiting for book 2. I'm intrigued!
Emily/Penny has been down on her luck to say the least. Unfortunately for her she meets a gorgeous man who's job is trafficking women.....will he sell her? Does he spare her? Oh BTW he has a twin brother. Conner is impulsive and volatile. Liam is cool, calm and collected and a master of manipulation.
Emily is no dummy and can see through both men.....
I absolutely loved this book and went tight to the 2nd book
this book was such a short, good read! i absolutely devoured it in one sitting — i couldn’t put it down. it was super well written. the characters were amazing, as was the plot. i loved it so much & cannot wait for the next book!!
if you like: • captive romance • twins • forced one bed • mfm w/ no choosing then this book is 100% for you.
This story is a about a women down on her luck, and struggling to try and create a new and seperate life for herself.
Unfortunately she is caught up in a dark and depraved world she could never have predicted. Caught between twins that are intent on hurting her, could it be that there are 3 souls so damaged that they need to join together to become whole again.
The book ends on a big cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more.
