Nimue Fitzpatrick never really meant to leave Deadlights Cove, but after she’d impulsively kissed her best friend, Kit Sayana, it suddenly became easier to take freelance photography jobs out of town. Just what she needed to forget the mess and the amber eyes she couldn’t bear to face anymore in the Cove. Now, after four years away, it might be time to admit that she’s been avoiding him.

The last four years haven’t been the easiest for Kit as the pressure to assume his responsibilities as future Alpha for the Arrowwood skulk takes over his life. Needing space, he moved out of his family home and into the apartment above his tea shop, Immortali-Tea. Despite the closeness among the members of his skulk, there is one thing he hasn’t shared with anyone, even his closest friends: ever since he kissed Nimue all those years ago, he’s known she’s his mate. The problem is that an interspecies mate bond is impossible, so it can never be.

When Nimue returns home for her cousin Blaze’s Halloween party, everything changes. No matter how the two childhood friends try to avoid their feelings for each other, fate has other plans. With magic turning on the shifters, the town is set into a panic that requires everyone to work together — especially Kit and Nimue.

Can they recover their prior friendship enough to come together and solve the next mystery, before it has lasting effects on the shifters in town?

Follow Kit and Nimue’s story, along with the quirky band of local misfits, through the Deadlights Cove series, in book two, Deja Brew.

While each book follows a different couple, the Deadlights Cove series is best read in order. Catch up and find out what Petra and Blaze discover in book one, Smoke Show, first.

Hi there, I'm Aimee - one of the coauthors of Deja Brew. Thanks for stopping by The Cove again! If you loved Smoke Show, then you're in for a treat. All of your favorite characters are back while we focus on Kit and Nimue, a childhood friends to lovers story chock-full of tension and pining.

While Deja Brew has all the humor and fun you're expecting from Deadlights Cove, this book intentionally has a new vibe. Kit and Nimue are wildly different characters compared to Petra and Blaze from book one, and it's meant to be that way. When you aren't shaking with laughter while reading, you'll probably be wishing you could just smash Kit and Nimue's little imaginary faces together and make them kiss.

I hope you love it as much as we do!

This book was great! I graciously received an ARC from the authors because I adored book 1 so much.
(Ps. Go read Smoke Show and also fall in love with Blaze.)
I loved the continuation in the world of Deadlights Cove and the fun characters that live there. The Childhood-Best-Friends to We-Can’t-Do-This to Lovers trope was so well done. I appreciate the different feel of book two. Even though you get a lot of the same cast of characters and everything from the town, the more subdued vibe matches kit and nimue’s character personalities and I just loved that. (Compared to blaze’s chaotic, fun energy in book 1, which I also freaking adored.) I thought the characters were flushed out well, the pacing of the plot was solid, and there was life in the story! It was a fun fall read to follow book 1 and I also can’t wait for book 3!! I have my suspicions about a 4th book as well 😉
I know not everyone cares about this but I also appreciate the stellar job done in the editing department. I’ve read a lot of self published books and the editing… Let’s just say… lacks. It was refreshing to read a book and not be stumbling over grammar or punctuation or spelling errors.

It was so lovely to return to the Cove!

This book gave me the same warm and fuzzy feeling as watching Gilmore Girls with a pumpkin mug filled with hot chocolate and whipped cream, whilst tucked up on the sofa in a chunky knitwear, next to a roaring fireplace as it rains outside.

This is autumn in a book. With the feel of crunchy leaves, roasting marshmallows, the smell of bonfires, the taste of toffee apples.

And to top it off? It's witchy, witty, and whimsical. Aimee and B - you ladies know how to write a paranormal rom com! I tip my woollen hat to you.

We've got:
Spooky vibes
Witches, magic, shifters, demons
Friends to lovers
COSY AF
Pop culture references (Firefly AND Dashboard Confessional? My heart ❤️)
Banter
Mystery
TREEHOUSE?! You guys invented a new trope
Diverse characters
And so much more

Once again, the writing duo of B. Perkins and Aimee Vance have made me wish I could travel to Deadlights Cove and live there with my own supernatural husband. Granted, the town is warded to look rundown to humans...so the likelihood that I would even stop there is slim...but still there is a chance! The couple in this book has so much chemistry, I was on fire almost the entire time reading. The sexual tension as the hero denied his feelings, the pining on both sides for years, and then the moments where they were forced together when they could barely keep their hands off each other. This is definitely one of the best representations of pining and fated mates I have read in a long time. I had a hard time not staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish it.

Kit Sayana has known for years that Nimue Fitzpatrick is meant to be his. There's just one problem - he is a fox shifter destined to be the alpha of his skulk, and she is a demon whose kind is typically unsuited to a committed relationship, let alone one where she would need to be submissive. When Nimue returns from four years away from the town, and four years since they last gave in to their desires with a shocking and steamy kiss, Kit is determined to keep her at a distance. For both their sakes. But trouble is once again afoot in the small supernatural town of Deadlights Cove, and they must work together regardless of their personal feelings. Even if it means they risk giving into the mating pull and putting their hearts at risk of permanent ache if they fail to make things work between them.

It's never a dull moment in Deadlights Cove, especially when someone can't keep his paws off the woman he claims is not for him. Even though she is. She absolutely is. The miscommunication trope is strong in this story, so brace yourselves. I wanted to shake Kit so many times, and poor Nimue was just batted around like a yo-yo. One minute Kit was aloof and cold, the next he was smelling her neck and rubbing up against her. Talk about mixed signals! But his reasoning behind it was so selfless, and he was already struggling so much dealing with becoming alpha soon in place of his father, who had such expectations for him. The man had so much stress, I'm surprised he didn't have a heart attack at some point in the story. Nimue did her best to read his signals, but even as she could feel his urges, she didn't know if they came from genuine feelings or just the fact that she was attractive to him. Thankfully our girl Nimue was no pushover, and she made sure he understood where things stood between them. She was willing to give it a shot, to love him and submit as needed in an alpha shifter relationship, if only he would be willing to allow her that chance. I loved Kit's fox family, both blood and skulk, as they bantered with him and Nimue. This may or may not be an endorsement depending on how you view Twilight, but I got flashbacks to Bella's relationship with Jake's pack. I was Team Jacob all the way, so for me, this is high praise!

As always, can't wait for the next book! It's going to be so amazing, I already know.

**I received a free book from the authors, and this is my honest review.**

The more time I spend in Deadlights Cove, the more I fall in love with it! ❤️ The cast of characters is so unique and quirky. Nimue and Kit's story was amazing. I love friends to lovers and I liked the supernatural twist with this trope. Sometimes with friends to lovers the reader is yelling at them to just tell each other how they feel already 😂, but in this case I wanted to sit back and see how it all played out rather than yell at them because it makes sense that they need to overcome their differences as a demon and a shifter. This causes the most perfect tension between them as well 🔥

This was also such a perfect read for fall! 🍂 There were so many fun fall elements, most especially the harvest festival. You'll have to read the book to find out about all of the awesomeness that entails!

I already can't wait for the next book! I love how each book in the series centers on a couple, but there's also an underlying storyline that continues throughout the books. It's truly a series, rather than connected standalones like a lot of romance series.

The series is on KU, so don't hesitate to start reading! Smoke Show is available now and Deja Brew will be out October 1st!

Thank you so much to Aimee and B. for an ARC in exchange for my honest review! ❤️

I absolutely ate this book up! This was just such a fun read and hit the spot- I love all the little throwbacks to things that were popular in the 90s, love the small town vibes, the found family going on, just everything. I love a good childhood best friends to lovers and what a surprise - who knew Kit had such a mouth on him! LOL! Personally, I would’ve just jumped on him and climbed him like a tree if I were Nimue haha!

If you enjoy:
-Fated Mates
-Forbidden Love
-Fox shifters
-Friendly demons
-Childhood friends to lovers
-Found family
- a hilarious and super cool Harvest Festival

Then def pick this one up!

The tense friends-to-lovers trope with just a dash of supernatural mystery made this a super fun fall read! I am just loving getting to know all the different residents of the Cove. Nimue and Kit are great additions to the cast from Smoke Show, and the love they have for their friends and families shines in this book. Aimee and B. have a great talent in weaving together the lives of these characters, and I can't wait to see what they come up with for future books in this series!

This spooky & quirky town sure has my heart. Deja Brew follows a new couple in town (though we still get to see Blaze and Petra!) and blends their angst and relationship development into the overarching mystery plot of why is the magic disappearing?

I absolutely devoured this book in less than two days. I think the pacing is absolutely wonderful and B and Aimee make such a strong writing duo - definitely auto buy authors for me.

There were so many laugh out loud moments (Dev was so hilarious this book and I’m so glad we got to see more of her) and the chemistry between Nimue and Kit was palpable (treehouse IYKYK).

We also get introducers to new characters in this book - the sea nymphs! There is so many layers to Deadlights Cove and I truly just can’t get enough.

Highly recommend this book - perfect spooky read for the fall!

Witches, Sifters and Mates oh-my….

Goodness me I just love Deadlights Cove!! The whole town has my heart. The adorable characters who make me laugh and just find happiness in reading about. Such a fun read! This is a new couples story. I just really enjoy when we get series like this that the overarching plot connects them all but we get to see other couples lives. We still get to see a lot of Blaze & Petra that makes my heart happy. My favorite Mo and Dev… the whole gang! We do learn more about the mystery of what was going on in book 1 (I won’t tell what it is I don’t like ruining books for others). Yes we get a few more answers but not quite solved yet… I’m still not 💯 on the why this is going on!

You have to give this book a try!!! It is available Oct 1st via ebook/KU!!! Book one is available on KU and paper back now!

On the reread:

It's still incredible. Some of my favorite parts hit a little harder this time around because I already love everyone.

I'm also continuing to be eagle eyed and suspicious! I'm trying to find all the little secrets and hints left along the way!

It's been so fun coming back to these characters.

************

An excellent second installment in the Deadlights Cove series.

In this book, we get to learn more about Fox-Shifter and owner of Imortali-Tea, Kit and Blaze’s Demon sis-ousin Nimue. Not only that, but we get to see a bit more of the characters we have already come to love.

I absolutely loved learning about another piece to the Deadlights Cove puzzle. The Shifters! I loved the dynamic between the different shifter groups and that the Fox-Shifters definitely embody that fun, sneaky, prankster spirit. We only see Kit briefly in Smoke Show, so it was a lot of fun to get to know him, his family, and his skulk.

I love Nimue. We got a glimpse of her in Smoke Show, but she is finally back in town after working as a freelance photographer for 4 years, and everyone is hoping she is here to stay. I really enjoyed watching her journey with Kit as they try to navigate where they are now in life and where they have been.

I loved watching Nimue and her friends. I love Nimue and Dev. Perkins and Vance built such a fun group of friends that I would absolutely love to have. In the last year or two, I have really found that a good book friend or friend group can make or break a book for me. This was an incredible friend group! They all balanced each other well, and I think I highlighted almost everything Dev says. You don’t mess with the protective Best Friend!

We also learned a bit more into the mysteries of what has been affecting magic around the Cove. Chaos ensues, and everyone needs to act fast. It seems like things are resolved for the moment, but I doubt it will stay calm for long!

I can't wait to read the next book!!

I love this quirky town. It’s like my favorite small town contemporaries but make it spooky and I am here for it. There’s all sorts of paranormal creatures running around and I love that there’s different focuses on learning more about them with each book.

Fated mates reallllly worked for me between Kit and Nimue. It was written incredibly well that had me feeling all the chemistry they had for each other. It was hot and sweet and all the things in between.

The outside plot is interesting and I like how it subtly continues. Not overshadowing the romance but upping some intensity and bringing the action. This is a great writing duo and I look forward to the future books in this series!

Overall audience notes:
- Paranormal Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: two open door; med-high explicit
- Violence: med
- Trigger/Content Warnings: Physical and magical altercations, kidnapping

I didn't care for this book as much as the previous one, but I do still plan on continuing the series.

I guess I'm not into foxes like I'm not into wolves. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But for real, this book helped me figure out that my problem with wolves isn't necessarily the animal itself, but the "alpha" / "pack" dynamics, so that's good for me to keep in mind in choosing books in the future.

I am in love with this series. Deadlights Cove is like a fluffy blanket that just came out of the dryer. It's all snuggly, warm, and downright comforting.
Deja Brew is the second installment of the Deadlights Cove series. Each book spotlights different characters in the cove, but all have an intertwining plot.

Meet the MC's Kit and Nimue.

Kit Sayana, a fox shifter set to become the next alpha of his skulk, owner of Immortali-Tea, undercover daddy, and secret coffee fanatic.

Nimue Fitzpatrick, flicker extraordinaire, full-fledged demon adopted by Mo, honorary sister to the one and only Blaze and best friend to the bloodthirsty Devanna.

Kit and Nimue have been best friends since childhood until one impulsive kiss disrupted the nature of their friendship. After four years of being away on various photography jobs, Nimue is back in town for Blaze's Halloween party. She is determined to recover their friendship, while Kit is resolved to keep his distance.
Will they overcome their emotional obstacles in time to solve the foul game afoot in Deadlights Cove?
I would tell you since I just finished the book, but that would be spoiling all the fun.

There is a bit of a miscommunication trope, but it is written well and spaced between scorching hot tension. Speaking of tension, can I tell you how thankful I am for storage closets? That scene and the tree-house scene will live rent free in my head.

Vance and Perkins are a dynamic duo when it comes to balancing angst and humor. I am pretty sure I wore a goofy smile the whole time I read this book.

If you like Harvest Festivals, unhealthy Beanie Babie obsessions, and feel comfortable in a town full of weirdos, you will love Deadlights Cove.

Thank you so much to the authors for the free copy of the ebook so I could leave an honest review.

This is book 2 of the Deadlights Cove series and it picks up right where Smokeshow left off. This time we get to follow two different characters. Kit and Nimue brought a different flavor to this book and I loved every minute of it! We still got to follow up with our favorite characters from book one but the new characters allow us to see more of the cove and its inner workings.

As with book 1, the pop culture references are ON POINT and the songs they chose are perfect fits. I loved watching Kit and Nimue grow together and figure out what they wanted from their lives. This was a perfect fun, quick paced read with all the cozy fall vibes.

Deja Brew releases on Oct 4 so you still have time to read Smokeshow if you haven’t yet. Get on it! You won’t be sorry!

This story follows Kit, one of Deadlights Cove's resident fox shifters, and Nimue, a demon who just so happens to be Kit's childhood best friend. Nimue has been running away from Deadlights Cove (and her feelings) for years. When she finds herself back in town visiting, sparks fly... but feelings and expectations can make things so complicated.

🔥 childhood best friends to lovers
🦊 found family
🔥 bonded mates
🦊 hilarious cast of characters
🔥 allllll the magical, paranormal species
🦊 treehouses
🔥 a hint of suspense
🦊 small town in fall vibes
🔥 warm and fuzzy hea

My take: The first book of this series, Smoke Show, was so good. Great even. This book? FANTASTIC. Nimue is a noteworthy character, but I gotta say Kit is the real main character here. His Alpha Energy was everything I wanted and more. What made this interesting to me wasn't just the romance (which I loved), but also the subplot mystery of the magical mishaps. The humor to romance to suspense balance is done very well. Unlike some other romcoms I've read, there really wasn't a chapter I would consider as purely "fill."

This was such a fun and lighthearted read. I'd highly recommend to anyone who likes Lucifer, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, and Hook Line and Sinker. (That is kinda a weird list, I know, but trust me.) I'm so stinking excited for the next book. I NEED it.

While readable on it's own, you'd be doing yourself a favor to read Smoke Show first. You'll get a lot more out the characters and build up that way.

Deja Brew is out now on KU!

Genre: Paranormal Romantic Comedy
Age Rating: Adult (18+)
Spice: 3.25/5
My rating: 5/5

I think I've found my favorite fictional place.

There is nowhere I would rather be right now, than Deadlights Cove. If someone took Autumn and turned it into a book - it would be this one. I am so mad that the Harvest Festival isn't a real thing, because I need to go.

As expected, the best part of this book, for me, is the characters. B and Aimee excel at giving each character their own unique personality, and they all mesh together so well - they give so much life to all of them, not just the MCs. (Devanna is literally me as a fictional character, I don't know HOW they did it). I like that while the focus is obviously on the FMC and MMC, we get so much from the "side" characters in these books, which sets the scene for future books. And we still get new Blaze and Petey content that fits into this story seamlessly, without taking away from Kit and Nim.

This book will give you everything you need for a good fall read:
witchy/spooky vibes
banter
tension & pining
friends to lovers (not usually my fav trope but it 10000% worked here)
TREE HOUSE TROPE (not something you knew you needed until now, huh?)
diverse characters
humor and wit
the list goes on and on.

So if you need a cozy read this is the one! I know this was literally just published, but I'm already frothing at the mouth waiting for the next one.

An amazing follow up to book one, Smoke Show. This second journey through Dead Lights Cove has us focusing on a couple with a very different vibe than book one, but with no less swoon-worthy and nice nice spice-worthy moments! Absolutely adored the family bonds, friends to lovers, small town hijinks.

Truly shaping up to be one of my favorite series ever. I could not love the humor and heartfelt moments more. Buckle up for nostalgia, pining and the best treehouse moments of your life. A absolute delight. Lightning struck twice.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book.

Cozy season is the perfect time to dive back into the world of Deadlight’s Cove.

Kit is a swoon worthy fox shifter feeling the weight of his Alpha responsibility. He so desperately doesn’t want to make the wrong choice for his family.

Nim is a demon with a heart of gold. She so desperately wants everyone else to be happy it seems she’s forgotten about herself.

The pining and uncertainty these two characters face while the reader (and the rest of the town) just want to smoosh their heads together and yell “now kiss” will have to reaching for a strong glass of demon wine and loving every moment.

CW: this is an adult paranormal romcom and does contain explicit scenes and mentions of violence.

I didn’t think it was possible, but I keep loving each book by these authors even more than the last! They somehow can write characters with completely different styles amazingly well. This is the second book in the Deadlight Coves series and I loved it even more than the first one. I loved seeing more of the characters and seeing them interact with each other. I loved that Blaze and Petra were still very much a part of the story even though this book focused on Kit and Nim. Also Dev…she is my favorite, may we all have a friend like her.

If you enjoy cozy books that just bring joy and aren’t too spooky this is a great series for you to check out!

Kit and Nimue are everything in this friends to lovers to forbidden lovers to second chance love romance.

I enjoyed this one even more than the first book. Kit and Nimue have sizzling chemistry and the angst and push and pull of duty and love for Kit was perfect.

Nimue may be a demon but she's like a really nice demon. I loved her so much and I adored her friendship with Dev. Everyone needs a friend like Dev!

Really fun book, good spice, great characters with a sweet ending. Loved it.

Perkins & Vance have done it again! This is the second book set in the Deadlights Cove community and the authors do a wonderful job weaving the favorite characters from book one into book two. This installment revolves around demon Nimue, and fox-shifter Kit - childhood friends with lots of chemistry. You will love the tension, heat, and...well... the treehouse. The mystery from book one continues as we follow Kit and Nim's romance. A perfect cozy fall read!

Do you ever wish you could read a book with a diverse cast that feels like you’re hanging out in Stars Hollow…but with more magic? If so, you absolutely need to pick up the Deadlights Cove books!

First, I would highly recommend reading these in order. There’s a mystery plot line that has a full arc across the five books, so while you CAN read them out of order, you’ll get the full experience if you read them in order! (And I equally loved Book 1 - Smoke Show - and I think you will too!)

Childhood best friends to strangers to lovers is one of my all time favorite tropes. The tension between Nimue and Kit was 🔥🔥🔥.

I wish I could go hangout in Deadlights Cove with all of these characters, but since they are fictional I will have to do the next best thing and continue to read the series!

This was still adorable but my favorite parts were ones with the side characters, to be honest. I loved Nimue but Kit was just kinda meh for me as the MC and the romance plot felt a little rushed and awkward. But there were plenty of times I was still giggling and smiling as I still think the series as a whole so far is delightful! I really enjoy the rest of the characters a lot- especially Mo! Forget book boyfriends, I want a book Grandma and it’s Mo… love her SO much! 😂 I’ll definitely continue because these books are quick and fun to read and I am really looking forward to Devanna’s story 🤗

This paranormal romance series starts with Smoke Show and I recommend reading it ASAP. It’s funny, endearing and a bit thrilling. A few side stories told in Smoke Show, continue the lore in book 2, Deja Brew.

Deadlights Cove is a sleepy, coastal, town full of, you guessed it, all sorts of magical and paranormal beings. Enter, human female and read what happens.

Deja Brew turns the main characters from book 1, into side characters so the authors can highlight another unique relationship. I didn’t find Deja Brew to be much of a romcom, and that’s ok, it was still fantastic!

These paranormal romance books are only available on Amazon (KU too), or Aimee Vance’s website.

From what I understand book 3 is already underway. And the merch, I’m planning to spend a small fortune, check it out: https://p-v-publishing-2.creator-spri...
