Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
In this book, Winland is at last able to shelve her responsibilities towards the new residents of East Calico Rock.
The huge underground red crystal is, at last, up to full strength, which means that Winland can start her journey northwards, to Minnesota, to find the Custodian, Hector Fang, who was the last person to see the Warrior Witch, that Winland is convinced is her mother.
But, before she leaves, all the people of their small town, decide she deserves a great going away party!
This begins a whole new set of circumstances, for both Winland, and the residents of the town.
I really enjoyed this book. It was definitely slower paced than previous books, but that just gave me the time to learn even more about both the town itself, and the people who chose to settle there.
It was still full of the great details, and doings, that make the people of the town even more interesting to learn about, and it drove the story on towards its next chapter.
I'm really wanting to get straight on to the next book in this series, so I'm going to finish writing this review, then go straight on to read Book Four: 'Four if by Power'.
So, I'm off to do exactly that, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this next part of Winland's journey!
I cannot remember the last time I skipped to the end of a book, many many years for sure, but I just could not focus on this one. I got through the first few chapters and it was either skip to the end or just put it down. The pace was just too slow for me.
Overall enjoying the premise of the series but the dialogue between Windland and Sarah is taxing. They say the same things to each other over and over and over again. Since I'm listening to the audio versions I have a tendency to zone out. If I were reading a text version I'm sure it would allow for speed reading. Otherwise enjoyable as a backdrop for mundane chores.
Not as much action as the last but still a fun read. Finland seeds out to teach the witch who might be her mother. It's not easy but she finally finds the custodian who last saw the witch.
Once again Martha and Michael have taken us on a journey through the magical world of Oriceran. Watching Winland track down the elusive Hector Fang is great fun and on the home front Elijah is growing into a fine young wizard. Enjoy
Well, didn’t this just get a little more interesting?
What is up with Mike and Martha? This is some of their best work without a doubt. But in many ways I feel a lot like Winland, the protagonist, does at the end of the book. They’re yanking my chain. I want answers and they seem to want dancing.
And what’s the deal with those visitors? All I can say is that this is some of their best work, so I’ll be tossing my chain over the windowsill so that it can be yanked once more. lol. You see, after reading so much of what they’ve written, I know this: it’s worth it!
