Funk started her career in education with middle schoolers, moved to high school, and ended up in college. She now teaches history and criminal justice at a local community college. Coming from a long line of ancestors who love all things pertaining to reading, writing, and learning, it was only natural for her to tackle the task of completing a novel. As an avid reader who especially enjoys the history of crime, she weaves interesting facts among her characters and locations.
Mental health issues can be part of the psyche of a serial killer. In Silent Rage Russell’s character is developed by the difficulties he encountered in his troubled youth. We all wonder why someone chooses to do evil. Were they born that way or made that way by the environment surrounding them? Perhaps it is a combination of the two. However, just because things are tough at home doesn’t mean that person is doomed to a life of crime. Many of the youth of today are not taught how to handle the pressures handed to them by society.
Silent Rage tackles the nature vs nurture question. While DE Funk enjoys writing and takes inspiration from the immortal words of Winston Churchill and “never gives-up,” she hopes to entertain with her books and inspire readers to consider helping a troubled kid.
Her debut novel, Silent Rage, was awarded Best Suspense at the 2019 Killer Nashville International Writer’s Conference.
