this book is the ultimate Hallmark movie book, it truly doesn't get much better than this book. if you're looking for your feel good, lighthearted read with a cute ending -- then this is for you. i loved this book to it's fullest, and it's such a good starter for the Holidays coming up
at first, i was a little nervous about reading this book since the time frame was the 1910s. i have never read a book that took place during this time period, so i wasn't too sure what to expect. however, i am pleasantly surprised to say i enjoyed it. i like how there were certain elements of that time frame incorporated into the book -- but it didn't affect the entire plot. we still really got to enjoy the love story between Sarah and Nick without the time interfering too much. another thing i really liked about this book was the small town feeling. sometimes when author's advertise their books as a "small town romance", it isn't really a small town. however, this TRULY WAS a small town -- so that i loved. i also like how it took place in Canada, since that doesn't happen all too much with modern romances.
moving onto the characters, gosh i loved them all. i don't think there was any character who i truly disliked. first, Sarah: if she was real, i could so see myself being friends with her. i love strong-headed and stubborn she was. she was the perfect definition of a strong female lead, and i loved it. the way she went against societal norms and did her own thing was so badass -- i was so proud of her. as for Nick, he was such a sweetheart. i love the whole "golden retriever" vibe he had going on. i also liked how he was a truly gentleman, and he really took care of Sarah (even if she didn't want it). as for the other characters, they were all great. i loved Sarah's dad, Sam. he was such a cute addition, and although he wasn't involved much; i like the elements he did add. Ms. Merriweather was so cute too, and she gave me "the town's Grandmother" vibes. i like how caring she was, and she was cute in helping to get Sarah and Nick together. Nikki, Nick's aunt, was so fierce. i like how she really helped to show Nick that he did, in fact, have options. i also like how she went against societal norms -- but kept her roles at the same time
this next paragraph will discuss the ending, so spoilers will be talked about. read at your own discretion, you've been warned. now that we covered that, let's discuss the ending. i loved every part of it, and it honestly was the perfect ending for this book. first, the whole Gala with Sarah and Nick, confessing their feelings? i thought it was so sweet. i like how Nick prepared the room for Sarah and made her comfortable (that spicy scene was good too ;) ). i also like how Sarah told Nick how she felt, because it wasn't too sappy or emotionally -- and it really reflected her as a character. at first, i couldn't understand why Nick left and didn't tell Sarah, but i think him giving her the snow globe was beyond beautiful. it was a true "i love you" moment. and when Nick comes back to Sarah on Christmas, sneaking up on her?! stop, my heart was literally fluttering. it was TOO CUTE. oh, and Sam getting his eyesight is a true Christmas miracle. that was such a beautiful moment
honestly, this book was everything. i loved the feelings it gave, and now i want to go watch a ton of hallmark movies while i'm sitting by the fireplace. i'm so grateful i was allowed to receive an arc copy of this book; and i recommend it to ANYONE
