An Empress #2

An Empress of Fire & Steel

Rate this book
Under the light of the approaching Cold Moon, Emara Clearwater’s ascension as the Empress of House Air must take place quickly to secure her crown and title. With the covens under attack, she has no choice but to immediately adjust to the world of elemental magic and its hierarchy. However, after the events of the Uplift, questions of Emara’s dominant element loom heavily in the air, and fears of her House rejecting her start to arise. But maybe that’s not all she should question, as her family’s dark past continues to claw its way to the surface.

Torin Blacksteel quickly finds himself fortunate to be selected as one of the guards appointed to protect the Empress of Air. As the second-in-command of his clan, Torin makes it known to all that he will protect Emara with his life. Will he be able to uncover who is responsible for the attacks on the witches before they strike again, or will he be too distracted by his growing feelings for Emara?

Breighly Baxgroll, daughter of the Alpha, leader of the Shifter faction, finds herself tied up with the hunters once more. This time, it is not the Blacksteels who are taking up her time, but another warrior, inked from head to toe. The relationship is forbidden, but will she disobey her Alpha?

Gideon Blacksteel has been appointed to protect the Empress of House Earth, but he still finds himself sore around the heart as he watches his brother get closer to Emara. She’s promised to Torin in an alliance between clan and coven, but will that stop Gideon from fighting for her? Or will fate find him a new path entirely?

Darkness and desire go hand in hand as the Winter Solstice Ball comes into focus. As Emara indulges in her most intimate wants and needs, will she be able to let her heart burn for only one Blacksteel brother, or does the candle of her past love still flicker? Or maybe the decision will be taken out of her hands altogether.

Noelle Rayne is the debut author of An Empress of Air and Chaos. This is book number one in her debut fantasy series. She has a BA Hons Degree in Theatre and lives in Ayrshire, Scotland. When she is not writing, she is binge watching supernatural TV shows, cuddling her fur baby or curling up with a good fantasy book under fairy-lights. Or possibly doing all three at once. She is obsessed with storms, glitter and all things witchy. If you like any of these things, I have a feeling you might like her books…

ALL. THE. FREAKIN. STARS!!!!

(I did beta read this and will hopefully get to read an arc when they come out! And you know I'm ready to pre-order it, too! It's that good!!)

I knew this was going to blow my mind but seriously, Noelle isn't messing around here! This book somehow is even better than An Empress of Air and Chaos! And I really freakin love that one!! This book picks up right where the first left off. The continuation of the story line is smooth and I find I'm still Team Torin this book. There's fun new additions in Naya Blacksteel - I love Mama Blacksteel! She's wise and funny and doesn't take crap from anyone! (P.s. Noelle - I wouldn't complain if you did a prequel novel of Naya!) Artem is the snarky tattoo covered best friend of Torin and I have to say - his banter is some of the best!! Breighly is a shifter with an attitude and I'm totally here for it! She's sassy and bold and all around fabulous!!

The story just sucks you in. I felt all the feelings!! I'd be crying and depressed in the beginning then found moments of laughter in the great banter to heart stopping stress and anxiety during the mysterious parts to fanning my face in the steamy moments and finally cursing out Noelle in immense anger at the ending!! Be prepared to run the entire gamut of emotions while reading this one. The steam level does rise in this book and it was done so fabulously! *chef's kiss* type of perfection!! There's some action fighting scenes in here that really surprised me - in a good way! I felt I could imagine them all while reading them. It was like a Marvel movie in my head! I was totally impressed!!

That ending! I almost threw my laptop across the room!! The writing is fantastic! It pulls you in and holds you hostage. If a book can make me feel all those emotions and have me impatiently awaiting the next book - you know it's a good one!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! If you haven't picked up AEOAAC go read that so you are prepared for AEOFAS because it's just that AH-MAZING!!!

Thrilling Sequel !!

The sequel picks right after the events of Uplifts. Emara finding herself from the sorrow and grief of her best friend. And Torin being there with her every single moment. I loved Emara and Torin togther and the way their push each other limits. The Waterfall and Emara ascension scenes!! I'm always Team Torin. He's my man. I flew through the book in a couple of days and it was mind blowing in the end! It was an emotional ride in the book. I loved development of characters and actions, angst, secrets, duty, self discovery, and...love. Oh, how I wish I've book 3 in my hands right now!

There was something so pure in his eyes, something so much more than hunger and sexual desire. It caused her heart to throb for him. It was something deep that connected them to the stars and the moon and every galaxy beyond theirs. It was something infinite.

Thank you so much to Noelle for a copy of my e-ARC.
Okay readers. I was a fan of An Empress of Air & Chaos. I am here to tell you I am a FULL BLOW FANATIC of An Empress of Fire & Steel. Noelle has taken this story to the next level in book 2 and I could not put it down!!! Emara has grown so much due to her traumas in AEOAAC and her character development here was so great. I loved seeing her confidence in herself build based on her own accomplishments and through the relationships she builds in her new home. Enter Torin. TEAM TORIN UNTIL DEATH. I think his chapters were my absolute favorite part of this story. There is so much growth that he has as well that it balances so much with Emara. We also get some looks at Artem (a new character and BFF of Torin) and Breighley as well... I seriously hope to see more of them in book 3. The last 1/3 of the book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what was going to happen and the ENDING --- OH MY GOD. Between the climax and the cliffhanger??? IDK what to do with myself!. Let's also just mention all the SEXY HOT SEXY times Noelle graced us with in the story... Oh yes. I approve. AMAZING JOB, NOELLE! I cannot wait for the next book!

This book. This absolutely stunning sequel completely and utterly took my heart and squeezed it, stomped on it, and brought it back to life.

Noelle just conquers the trauma healing journey in this book, where you can just feel the absolute raw emotions. I absolutely loved it.

It also made me cry a lot. The timing was perfect, and everything in this book just kept me captivated where I wanted to read it in all of my free time.

You’re killing me here!!! I’m not sure I can wait, I mean, I totally will but it won’t be patiently for the next installment of the Empress Series.

I don’t do spoilers but I’ll give you guys an idea of what this is about: witches, hunters, shifters, scandals, betrayal, enemy-to-lovers, secrets, plots, epic battles, EVERYTHING!!!

I am a self-proclaimed, probably should go to therapy for it, die hard series lover!!! This is up there with the “best” out there and Noelle is SELF-PUBLISHED!!!! She’s worked VERY hard to be where she is and SHE DESERVES IT!!! This book is AMAZING!!!

I know that at times I have started a known series and the first book just knocks it out of the park but the second one can lose steam…..NOT THIS SERIES!!!! Holy hot hunters!!!

The twists and turns in these books had my head spinning and talking to my bestie about this. (She’s already read it and was a good little friend and didn’t tell me anything!!!)

I cannot WAIT for the next book - it’s about to go down and I can’t wait to see which direction Noelle decides to go.

✨ My thoughts ✨
I honestly still don't know how to process this book. It was so so good. I loved being back in this world and with these characters. I loved seeing Emara growth. It was truly beautiful to read. She is one of my favorite female MCs. I love how strong and how much of a badass she becomes in this book. Oh those Blacksteel boys are still just so perfect. Torin truly has my heart. I won't say exactly what happens because of spoilers but the love in this book was just so beautifully written. The banter in this book was fantastic. The spice was just so good. I laughed so much too. I enjoyed all the twists and turns this book took. I am honestly still shocked at the ending. The ending is constantly on repeat in my head. I am ready for book 3. I need to know what happens.

An Empress of Fire and Steel is book 2 in the An Empress series. This book is NA. Book one, An Empress of Air and Chaos, is right on the edge of YA/NA. I seriously can't recommend this series enough.

First of all…WOW! To adequately express how much I love this book is going to be hard lol. The story picks up where book one ended which I absolutely love when authors do this. I want to be on the journey with the character the entire way. We get to feel Emara’s heartbreak and it’s so real. I loved her character development throughout this book as she comes into more of her own.

Then there’s Torin Blacksteel. 🔥 When I tell you my heart beats for him…sigh. A new book boyfriend was just added to my list! I’m a sucker for a charming, tall, dark, and hot warrior.

One of my most favorite things about the book was the banter! It was SO GOOD. The flirting between Emara and Torin was perfection, but also the banter amongst the other characters was amazing. This book had me giggling. My second favorite is the introduction to new characters like Artem. I loved him! I really enjoyed the switching POVs too.

Overall, it’s a must read and I need book 3 now! Make sure you order when it drops Sept. 10!

I received this book as an ARC reader and I am obsessed!

I'm guessing Noelle's inner monologue with this book was "how can I break their hearts right from the start, then pull the pieces together, create some heat, make them fall in love with all the characters, throw in some twists and shocks. And then piss them off?"

Well she did that! This book had me in a whirlwind! I am so obsessed! Emara and her journey is just beginning! And I'm dying to see where it goes next...because right now my rage is all consuming with that ending.

I devoured this book in one setting! Not only did Noelle Rayne keep my attention, she honored characters we lost, introduced us to new characters I loved, and had plenty of twists and turns along the way. I don’t want to spoil anything, but… there’s a reason the waterfall is on the cover 🥵. Pre-order this indie book immediately!

UPDATE

ARC Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I mean did we expect anything less from @authornoellerayne?! An Empress of Fire & Steel is book two in the Empress romantasy series. Welcome back to the world of witches, hunters, shapeshifters, demons, & too many secrets to count! The steam gets turned up quite a bit 🥵 thoroughly bringing this series into the NA category (book one was more on the YA/NA cusp) like y’all this book is 🌶 HOT 🌶 *cough a certain waterfall scene cough*

We see our favorites from book one & even get to meet some new people (helloooooo to a certain tattooed hunter 👀). Mama Blacksteel is everything in this book & you learn something super secretive & new about Baby Blacksteel! Like we saw in book one the banter is so fun, the world building continues, evil is on the horizon, romance is aplenty, & we’re once again left with more questions than we started with (ughhhh Noelle I need book 3 in my hands asap!) …I mean with the cliffhanger that happens at the end I still don’t know how to function & I finished this book days ago 🙃

Tropes: enemies to lovers, one horse, one bed, touch her you die

Pub Date: September 10, 2022

If you’ve read book one (or if you’re also a lucky ARC reader!) are you #TeamTorin, #TeamGideon, or team someone else?

What you need to do is let go of everything that holds you back from being who you truly are. You need to live in the moment, live in your light. You need to follow your gut and trust your instinct. I think we both have learned that life is so desperately short and utterly fragile, and you must make sure you live, Emara. Not just exist, live.

» The Review

Let me first start off by saying thank you! to Noelle for sending me an eARC! And also allowing me to pester you through DMs with my reactions. ^_^

I don’t even know where to start with this review! I finished this book not too long ago, so forming thoughts to words will be an interesting feat — and fingers cross it all makes sense!

There are so many things that I loved about this book, but one thing in particular that stood out was seeing the growth of Noelle’s writing and of these characters from the first book, An Empress of Air and Chaos, to the second. I can’t wait to see where we end up for the third. Friends, the books just keep getting better.

I’ll admit, I’m not one for emotional range, but there were certain parts of this book that just about got me. I won’t say any more, but I feel anything I’d elaborate on in that aspect will give something away. However, THE BANTER. I found myself not just giggling to myself, but actually laughing out loud. Artem has to be my newest favorite character. I can’t wait to see how his story unfolds. ;)

From what I’ve gathered, you seem sweet and lovely. But sometimes you can look at Torin like you are about to stab him in the neck. I mean, if I am honest with myself, I am here for it.

I absolutely can’t WAIT to get this book in my hands. September 10th cannot come soon enough.

I would like to first off thank the author for an advanced copy of An Empress of Fire and Steel! This book was absolutely incredible and I immensely enjoyed it. I did not want to set this book down.

I loved the first book so much, but the sequel blew it out of the water. There was no sequel slump here, this series only improved! I loved the additional POVs. I felt like I got to know the characters more and it was interesting seeing them in others’ eyes. Torin’s was probably my favorite, but I also really loved more of Breighly and her growing friendship with Emara. All of these characters were so rich and Rayne’s writing made me want to know more about them.

I also really enjoyed more of the world building. It expanded on book 1 a bit with out being info dumpy and kept me intrigued. I can’t wait to see more in the next book! The descriptions of the different scenery and buildings, as well as all the pretty dresses, were so wonderful.

Noelle did so well with the plot twists. I saw a couple things coming, but definitely not the full picture and I was SHOCKED in the best way. I was taken on a plot and emotional roller coaster and I loved every second of it.

I highly recommend checking out this romantasy series. It’s got enemies to lovers, some found family, magic, rich descriptions, and unforgettable characters! Now, I will be (not so) patiently waiting for book 3 after that incredible, jaw dropping cliffhanger.

Noelle is literally KILLING it with this series! If you thought book 1 was great just wait until you read this one! Typically sequels aren't as great as their predecessor but this book BLEW me away.

Both Emara and Torin showed so much character development in this book and it felt very real and relatable. I am also a very big Team Torin fan and I have to say... the amount of Torin you see in this book was perfection. 👌

“You cannot waltz in here, wearing that dress and have a dagger strapped to your thigh and not expect me to fall in love with you.” 🥵

💯% recommend this series. If you love Witches, Hunters, Shifters, Elemental Magic, and Demons... pick this up now!!

“Then it is war.” *full body shiver*
I just know book 3 is going to be my favorite.

This book… my GOD! It had so many twists and turns. I love Torin Blacksteel - he is so protective, fierce, loving, I could go on. And Emara! Emara is so strong, courageous, brave,
bold, I could also go on! This book was so good, I loved the vulnerability we got to see from both Torin and Emara, and I loved how we got to see them become closer. The last 100 pages had me shocked, screaming, gasping, the works. Please read this if you like witches, demons, magic, or love that will tear apart worlds.

“This is war.”
All the stars! This book deserves ever single star.
This review may be a little rough but I feel like whatever I say will not do the justice this book deserves just please do yourself a favour and read these books!

Once again author has smashed it out of the park, I didn’t think it could get better than book one but I had literally had no idea what I was missing!

Between book one and book two you can se that the author has come such a long way with their writing I was truly left speechless after finishing this book. The character development, the world building and the plot have majorly stood out from the first book! Don’t get me wrong I am still obsessed with book one I love it but this was really something else.

My favourite thing about this book was watching Emara grow into the person she can be, she had so much potential in book one but I don’t feel she got to explore this until book two, I’ve said it once and I will say it a million times again and that is that I am so inspired by her strength determination and her views in general, she has such a pure soul.

Ofcourse another huge part of this book was getting to watch the relationship between Emara and Torin finally blossom and oooh myyyyyy lord 🥵 I will never get over them I am literally obsessed. The have one of the most perfect dynamics ever! The way the can bounce off of each other is truly incredible to read.

I also feel it is important to mention the 🌶 in this book, I feel like I’m some books authors will through in some spice just for the sake of keeping us entertained but the spice in this book really helped to structure and define the relationship and I really admire that about this book. 5/🌶

Now ladies and gentlemen the only downfall about this book … we have a cliff hanger 😭 and I need more, and that is truly the only critique I have about this book (well not much a critique I’m just mad because I don’t have the other one to hand and I am very impatient)

Please please please go read these books and support this author, I would recommend these books to everyone!

I finally come to review this book. I read this book in one sitting in a plan and it was so worth it. I fell in love with this series more, especially when I read book 2! I freaking cried in a motherfreaking plane full of Swedish people!

Book 1 was written so beautifully, but this book exceeded every expectation I had. The one thing that makes my heart and soul sing is the character development Noelle definitely delivered and she gave her all in this book. This book gives you insights and POVs, especially with new characters and I LOVED every one of them! I only hated one because he's such a dick.

In this book, you get to learn more about Emara's story and how she accepts her new role in the magical world. She is still on the path to self-discovery and discovering who she can trust too. I just love learning about the lore in this world and it's so fun to figure out the mysteries of what the hell is going on.

The tension and the banter between Emara and Torin just make my heart melt. And the new bombshells enter villa....Artem. Omg ADORE, I will reiterate this. I ADORE Artem he is delicious, tattooed, and yum. He's so funny. He reminds me of a golden retriever at times. He's just I love him.

And Breighley! I adore her. I adore all the characters. I hope that we get more of the other magical creatures like the Fae king *cough* I just can't wait for the next book! It is definitely worth the read! It is NA and it may be slow burn but omg this book reminds me why I love romantasy so, so, much and how it's so addictive! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (5 Stars)

Omg this book was amazing! I loved the first book but this second book really took everything to the next level. It was so good. If you love romance and fantasy you need to read this series! Besides being an awesome read it supports an indie author!

I won’t go into much detail with the plot as this is a second book. I just want to say I loved it so much. More action, more romance, more world building! Plus all the witchy vibes. This book also has major touch her and I’ll kill you vibes, which I absolutely love. Plus so many twists! I need book three hah.

I also loved getting to know more of the side characters in this book!

Emara and Torin are my favourite characters. Emara in this book grows so much as a character, she deals with grief and learns to use that to become stronger. I absolutely loved this development. I recently had some grief I was dealing with so I really related to her character in this book.

I could go on forever but basically read this series! I highly recommend it! This is now one of my favourite books of all time.

How do I feel about book 2 in the An Empress series? I freaking loved it! The follow-up to An Empress of Air & Chaos is absolutely fabulous!

Emara's continued growth in this series is so well done. She not only embraces her new found magic and role in the witch community, but continues to strengthen herself physically despite the preconceived notion that women shouldn't be trained to fight. I can't wait to see how Emara continues to involve in book 3.

I loved the added POVs, and the way that Noelle lets the other characters shine. Artem and Breighly stand out as my new favorite characters in this series. They are both strong, opinionated, and their banter is perfection! We didn't see as much of Gideon in this book, and while I missed his character I think it was important for Emara's journey for him to take a back seat. The mysteries surrounding the third Blacksteel brother continue, and I can't wait to see what's in store for Kellen.

Can we talk about Torin? This man exudes sex appeal, and I am here for it! I loved that we got to see more vulnerability to Torin, and the extent that he'll go to protect those he loves. The spice in this book is chef's kiss! Noelle did a beautiful job showing how Emara learns to embrace her own sexuality.

THE. ENDING. 100% didn't see that coming. I am so excited for the direction that Noelle is taking this story! If you haven't started the An Empress series, please do yourself a favor and check-out book 1, An Empress of Air & Chaos!

There were so many great tropes pulled off in this second book: one horse, one bed, who cracks first, touch her and be un-alived. And on the note of that last one, wow is it followed through on. That was a beautiful scene of destruction because the bad guys dared to put a hand on Emara. Just beautiful!
.
There were so many great revelations in this one! I was shaking the book half the time waiting for one of the MCs to finally catch on to the villain -- because there were serious flags -- I nearly screamed for joy when Torin finally put it together. Good job, Torin. I knew you were my favorite from the start. 😂
.
My goodness, Rayne knows how to write tension! Romantic tension, plot tension, character tension. She is a wizard. And I loved the increased cast of characters. Artem and Breighley were wonderful.
.
The first few chapters did move a bit slowly, but the FMC is very grief stricken and they really couldn't be rushed. If you love worlds full of witches, demon hunters, werewolves, and fae this is an excellent world to dive into! It has lovely world building and even better characters.

Noelle kicked it up a notch on this sequel to An Empress of Air & Chaos and I’m 100% here for it!! 👏🏻 I loved seeing Noelle’s growth, not only in her writing, but her characters as well. I was hooked right from the get go, and experienced quite a range of emotions (which I’m still processing tbh lol). The banter was excellent, amazing character development, and the side characters have become some of my favorites. ⁣

I cannot wait to see how book three plays out! I need answers!!!! 😅⁣

If you enjoy reading books with witches, elemental magic, demon hunters and more, then this book is for you! Or if you haven’t read the first book, I highly recommend this series! You can find a review of book one down a ways on my feed if you need extra convincing 😉 ⁣

An Empress of Fire & Steel releases September 10th, and is available to pre-order now! ⁣

AEOFAS is the sequel to An Empress of Air and Chaos, and once again follows Emara Clearwater as she recovers from the events of AEOAAC and attempts to navigate the supernatural world. The story is told in the third person but primarily follows Emara’s perspective, although there are chapters from Torin, Gideon and Breighly. The book is a fantasy romance, with an excellent FMC, and is medium paced.

I can’t praise this book enough, I thought it was fantastic. I loved the characters in book one and this book completely heightened my feelings. In particular I really loved Torin and Artem, and I think Emara is a fantastic main character. There was also plenty of action throughout the book and I thought the romance was well executed and had a really good pace. I also thought the book was exceptionally well written with some twists I saw coming and others that took me completely by surprise. I found the book addicting to read and the end had me experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. I thought the book had wrapped up nicely but the final chapter left me reeling and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book!

I would highly recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy romance and I definitely think this will become a favourite series of mine.

"I wouldn't settle for anything mediocre"

I have been looking forward to reading this book for what feels like forever. I haven't put it down since I opened it on my kindle.

Noelle does not disappoint, I laughed, I cried, then laughed some more all through this book and then that ending 😱. I just don't know what to say about it I'm still in shock I just hope that book 3 will make it right again.

I love the characters in this book, Artem is like the big annoying brother that annoys you constantly but that you love unconditionally. I like that we got more of Breighly she's just what was needed with her fiestiness. Emara and Torin are just remarkable I can't wait to see where book 3 takes them.

Roll on book 3

✨An Empress of Fire & Steel✨

Rayne is a master of character driven romantasy that packs a storyline punch!

The sequel to An Empress of Air & Chaos did not disappoint, drawing us deeper into the beautifully crafted three dimensional world and magic system of Caledorna. I delighted in Emara’s growth, fabulous new characters and witty banter from my favourite Blacksteel brother (best described as an X-rated Damon Salvatore on steroids 🥵)

This is a great series for those who:
✨ Enjoy a strong, sassy babe who comes into her own - in more ways than one
✨ scorching sexual tension ❤️‍🔥
✨ A magic world you want to LIVE in and never leave

I can’t wait to see what happens with our favourite wolf babe, Earth empress and oh I dunno…. EvErYtHInG after that last damn chapter!!! 😱💘

This book… might be my favorite of 2022. Read it for Torin Blacksteel. Read it for Emara Clearwater. Read it for the whimsical, enchanting and celestial writing. I felt like the moon herself was a character. JUST READ THIS SERIES! That’s all I ask of you. Please. I am blow away.

3.25 ⭐

I was a little let down by this since I loved the first book so much.

The romance aspect was great! No complaints there.

Like the first book, the writing could use some refining. The pacing felt slow at times, and the big twist is one you can see coming from the beginning of book 1. The cliffhanger ending felt like it was just tacked on for shock value. After the journey you are taken on in the book, it felt redundant to go down that path. Unfortunately it did not get me excited to pick up the next one.

Holy shit-balls! Book two was even more freaking fantastic than book one! So many twists and turns I definitely didn’t see coming, my heart was racing the entire book. I loved getting to see a few different POVs, and that none of the newer POVs were forced longer than necessary to add to the story, and some I would’ve even loved to get more of. I don’t have any idea how I’m supposed to wait until book 3 after that cliff hanger but dang and I ready for more Emara Clearwater and the Blacksteel brothers!

I hadn't read a book in a long while due to kids when I discovered the empress series. I loved An Empress of Air and Chaos and it ignited my love of reading again. I was super excited to get my hands on Fire and Steel and devoured it within a week (it would've been a day or so pre kids!). Lots of ups and downs, twists and turns along with romance and witching. Highly recommend this series and cannot wait for book 3 now. Thank you Noelle Rayne!

Wow, what a book, I would give this 10 stars if I could.

From start to finish it was all I could think about and couldn’t wait for my day to be done to dive right back into the story,

I felt every emotion, it was heart tugging to see the real Torin blacksteel, I think every reader will fall in love with him, and the spice 🌶🌶🌶 😁😁😁 loved it

Viktar blacksteel 👊👊😡😡 I would punch you myself if I could lol

Can’t wait for book three out of FIVE 😆😆

These need to be made into movies 🎥
