Book Two in the "Impelled"

The night of the Million Dollar Grand Prix and Twin Oaks Farm’s end of season party was a night that would change Emma’s life forever – in more ways than one.

As her working student position comes to an end, she once again has to make a decision about her future. A decision that just become more complicated because of an unexpected job offer from someone close to her. While this offer seems like it might be the opportunity of a lifetime, it comes with repercussions that mean more change; one of which will affect her current relationship.

Emma and her horse Valentine are also making their debut into the world of eventing, and its proving to have its ups and downs as they begin competing.

However, right as Emma thinks things are finally going well in her relationship, something happens that makes her re-think everything. Something that forces her to keep a secret that will take its toll on her the more time goes on.

When the secret finally comes out, it will destroy everything in its path.

Not that Emma has time to deal with it, because she is suddenly faced with a much bigger problem.
When the life of someone she loves is put in danger, and with the threat of “no cops” hanging over her head, Emma is now the only one who can save her friend.

However, this is only the beginning of the decisions and complications life is about to throw Emma...

Editorial Review (of "Impelled," Book One in the Series):

"A suspenseful, romantic, page-turning story about a young woman's search for success in the Florida show jumping world. Emma Walker is starting a new life. One in which she lets go of everything to begin again, everything that is, except her love of horses. Impelled is a lovely debut novel that gets the horse facts right and is difficult to put down. I look forward to reading the next book in this series"

Sarah Welk Baynum has an extensive equestrian background which became the inspiration behind her debut novel “Impelled.”

While writing her novels, Sarah draws from previous experience as a working student, show groom, barn manager, working for FarmVet and other various jobs in the horse industry over the years both in her hometown and in Wellington & Ocala, Florida. Sarah also attended Otterbein University and majored in Equine Business and Facility Management.

Sarah still owns horses and actively competes in show jumping and three-day eventing, and horses have been a big part of her life since the age of twelve. Her first horse may have been a gelding, but she has a bias for mares and has primarily owned mares throughout the years.

Besides writing equestrian novels, Sarah also writes articles for Sidelines Magazine.

When she isn’t writing or riding, Sarah also enjoys competing in local and national singing competitions, and mainly sings country music.

Today, Sarah lives in her hometown just outside of Columbus, Ohio, with her family which includes her husband, her two dogs, two cats and her two mares Tilly (a warmblood) and Letty (an off the track thoroughbred).

I did enjoy this book more then the first one but I feel like we still have the same problem where the story is going along great and we’re following Emma and her struggles with feeling like she belongs in this world and her love triangle and then all of a sudden we have a kidnapping plot? I feel like whenever one of these twist happens it just throws me out of the story some what and honestly I don’t care that much because to me, it doesn’t help the plot any. Also sometimes the conversations with characters seems way to formal or how a 40 year old would talk not some 20 somethings. I also feel like Emma was dumb with some decisions when it came to her relationship with Luke and she just needed to be honest from the beginning and have a grown up conversation. I know I just said a lot of negative about this book but I did honestly enjoy it once we really got into the meat of everything and as a horse rider myself the horse scenes are written very well. Honestly if this was just a romance and not a romance suspense series I think I would like it better.

Started off so good, but what in the actual heck was that ending? I literally had to skim the last 15% of the book because it was nonsensical and I absolutely didn’t care about the plot. I feel like I got immense whiplash. I was really excited about this series, but I don’t think I’ll be continuing honestly.

Again…poorly edited with many misspellings and words with letters missing. It becomes very distracting while reading. Story line has potential, but the author needs to flesh out her characters with more details. Her descriptions are becoming repetitive. A good editor could get the author on track. With that said, I will continue to read this series and other work by this author. I believe the potential is there and look forward to seeing her progress.

Love the horse parts - very realistic

Not so interested in the romantic parts or the relationship angst or the "scary thriller" parts, that seem unrealistic to me. Still want to read the rest of the series, to see how Valentine progresses in her training.
