Cory Van Doren thinks he is losing his mind. Everywhere he looks, the walls are closing in. Desperate, alone, and with time seemingly running out, he needs to find a way to function while solving a terrifying serial killer case.
With his blackouts worsening, Cory has turned to the one type of person he never thought he would-a psychiatrist. Why? Because he has more questions than answers ...
Will Dr. Rohana Ashwell be able to figure out why he is losing large chunks of time? Can she tell him why every clue seems to implicate him in the recent homicides? And most of all, can she save him before he slips off the edge of sanity into oblivion?
Cory has burned all of his bridges. His former partner and only friend has grown tired of his attitude. Chief Warick has had enough of him slipping up at work. And the only family he had left took his own life seven years ago.
Whoever killing people seemingly at random clearly has a purpose. The more Cory digs, the further his target slips away. When another person with connotations to Cory's life dies, things really begin to spiral.
Is there enough time to catch the killer before everything falls apart? What if his perceived connections to the case prove to be real? And who can Cory trust when he can't even trust himself?
This may be fiction, but the author is spot on (yet again) in dealing with trauma. PTSD (simple or complex) is not a trifling matter. Untreated emotional amd mental illnesses can be more damaging than some physical ones – take my word for it. ***No worries, I won’t TMI like I did in my review for the prequel (which is even MORE awesomer that this book).
Supressing or otherwise ignoring PTSD also affects other people, whether it be family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Or Cory’s partner: “YOU’RE NOT FUCKIN’ FINE, CORY!” Bradley roared, slamming his fist into the coffee table.
If you’re feeling triggered while reading this book, may I suggest taking a step back to ask yourself why. Perhaps you know somebody who could use your support in getting help. Either way, start the process of healing.
Cory Van Doren is getting closer and closer to the edge of insanity. His blackouts come and go more frequently now, and the nightmares are getting even worse. He finds himself in the middle of a serial killer case that has too many coincidental links to his own life, with each new clue. With the help of a psychiatrist, will he be able to get his life and mind back to something he can actually manage again? This whole series has kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what comes next. I recommend this one for those of you who like a lot of suspense and excitement from a book.
Book 4 is putting all the puzzle pieces in place or better yet giving you all the pieces for you to put into place.
Corey not only know four people who are dead but have some sort of relationship with each and every one of them...past and present. The last one has caused a serious bump for Cory to truly seek help.
Now that we know there is something in the water..the question is how much will this effect of this new dilemma will it take Corey out?
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I read this "novel" through ARC. This is my review. Cory's saga continues, he's come to believe he's either a target of a deranged killer or losing his mind. Can he continue this dangerous course? Next.............
Detective Van Doren is having blackouts and thinks he may be responsible for the recent murders. Cory takes Medea's advice and goes to see Dr. Ashwell. This quick read is very intense, ending in a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.
