Mango and Brash are investigating the art world and some missing paintings by artists like: Leodoggo da Vinky, Vincent van Gopher, Frida Jello, Pablo Pigasso, Jackson Mollusk, and more. Their plan is simple: 1) Become artistic geniuses (at A.R.T.S. = Artistic Refinement of Talent . . .for Spies). 2) Get invited to gala. 3) Catch burglar. Seems pretty straightforward, but Mango and Brash run into an obstacle or two along the way. Like the artist breaking the 4th wall (watch out or your face will get erased). Mango gets a little carried away with his artist impression -- inventing a new country called Lamparugalightswitchland and calling himself Macaroni Ancheese. Never a dull moment in this latest adventure. By the way, try not to eat any of those hors d'oeuvres at the gala! The caterer still didn't get paid for last year and couldn't buy fresh ingredients. Blech!

This book is long to read aloud so I’m counting it as credit.

Lots—and I means lots—of puns and breaking the third wall, which makes it fun to read as an adult. Fun heist plot. Always a sucker for a good heist.

Way less potty/body humor than captain underpants. Relief emoji. But this book did have two pages of barfing. Somehow I tolerate that more.

I’ll probably read the others.

To my kids of course.

It was refreshing to have a different problem to solve this time (versus just Crackerdile, etc).

Blooming marvellous. Love how filled with puns and word play these are. This series is just such fun and they are so popular in school! Book 6 and I’m nowhere near bored! When popular art starts going missing, it’s up to the investigators to get it back! This made me cackle at times! Can’t wait for more!

The InvestiGators series is a favorite in our house and Heist and Seek was no different. Our nine year old is a bit of a reluctant reader and struggles to find books that really engage him.

We learned about this series last year and each book provides a new mystery to unravel and a fresh enthusiasm for books, which always makes us so happy! He flies through these reads and is always eager to pick them up again and again. It has the perfect amount of humor and action and our family gives Heist and Seek a big thumbs up!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for our gifted review copy.

I think a lot of the puns went over the boys’ heads, but they enjoyed it and want the rest of the series now.

Let's start with Oliver's review (age 7):

My favorite character is Savanna. (and like C-Orb, Oliver liked that there was room for a How To Draw section at the back)

Panksy was funny.

I liked when Savanna found out she's in a book.

I loved the part when Agent Six warned about not being mean to the author, and ran away screaming.

If half stars are a thing, then four and half stars. . I kind of miss Darryl / Crackerdile / Waffledile / Statuedile / Rockodile / Radioactodile

Now John's review (age 38):

I love these books. Sure, some of the jokes are corny, but I'm a dad. And some of it so subtle that I have to just stop and applaud. I had to stop our reading, pause my laughter, and then explain why Ancheese "munch munch"-ing was so frickin' hilarious. I explained it to my son, and later had to explain it to my wife, too, so I'm pretty sure John Green wrote these books just for me.

Green has set up such a carefully planned world that it's amazing. For a case in point, a main focal character in this book is drawn on the first page of the first book (bottom right, iirc), and not called attention to until this sixth book in the series! There are so many call-backs that reward the careful reader, and my son delights in looking for hidden details in the books to look for clues in future books.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of my kid's most anticipated book all year, and she said this book was just as hilarious and clever as the previous ones, and made me read it with her, after finishing it herself.

Details I loved from this book:
- the art and the artists such as "Bona Lisa" by Leodoggo Da Vinky, Vincent van Gopher, Frida Jello, Pigasso, so funny and the corresponding arts are hilarious as well.
- there's so many incidences where the fourth wall was broken, they referenced the story being a comic book, where characters were afraid to be erased.
- the signature clever puns "canvass for my canvas", "Warehouse? There, house!", "We herd they had an impressive Cattle-log. It was quite Moo-Ving."
- Agents of S.A.L.A.D. Is this a reference to my beloved Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

We are both looking forward to the next week All Tide Up, won't miss it for a thing.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

I'm not going to lie, I was drawn to this book because of the title! From that alone I knew this would be a fun book to read (and it most definitely was!). The graphics are bright and engaging and the layout is easy to follow. The story has humor that both kids and adults will enjoy. It was a lot of fun to follow the investigation to its conclusion. I highly recommend this for classroom and school libraries!

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review

This is one of my student's favorite series, and I don't blame them! The series flows so well from book to book and as always, this was another fun read - this time about an art heist being investigated. Definitely a must for any middle grade classroom library or fans of Dav Pilkey!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this in exchange for an honest review

I did not read any of the books in this series, but I was able to follow along quite nicely. I thought it was cute and clever. The characters were great and easy to understand.

I thought the art was great and brightly colored.

Overall I would definitely read another book by this author, and even perhaps go back and start the series from the beginning.

Thank you, NetGalley and First Second for sending me an e-arc of this book. I first picked it up because of the pun in the title, without knowing that this is the 6th book.
But it’s easy to read as a stand-alone, it’s funny, there are great puns (I love puns) and the author loves to break the fourth wall (maybe even the fifth) and I love when media does that
So if you like funny, easy-to-read, and original stories, this book is for you!

InvestiGators

My son (9) has read all 5 of the previous books and when I saw this pop up on NetGalley I knew it would be a fun book for us to read together.

Synopsis

When rare paintings go missing, the InvestiGators are called on the scene..the ART SCENE!

Mango and Brash go undercover and under canvas as internationally renowned painters to expose a crook who has truly mastered the art of CRIME!

Can they recover the missing masterpieces and save the city art museum's fundraising gala before it's too late and they run out of appetizers?

Review
These are such great books for kids learning to read. When my son was in 1st and 2nd grade, he could pick these books up and read them on his own. This 6th book, Heist and Seek is the same way. My son read this aloud to me and it was perfect for us.

We laughed out loud at the antics of all the different characters. And sometimes the author would use bigger, more complex words but the characters would explain the meaning of those words as we went along.

This is a great series for reluctant readers who need comedy in their lives to read.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I received an advanced reader copy of InvestiGators: Heist and Seek by John Patrick Green in exchange for an honest review.

I love any book about art and museums, and mysteries are by far my favorite genre, so this book was made for me!

This is my first time reading the InvestiGators series. I’m not incredibly well-versed in this genre of children’s graphic novels, but I have read some of Dav Pilkey’s Dogman books with my nephew. Forgive me if some of my review comes from comparison to that series.

This book has puns galore! Character names are puns, settings are puns, works of art are puns, everything is a pun! I thought the animalistic twists on famous artworks were quite funny too. The mystery aspect was pretty good, and I liked the way the author peppered in more and more obvious hints as they reached the conclusion.

Heist & Seek reads very much like the Dav Pilkey graphic novels I’ve read; however, Green’s characters and plots are better developed. I was invested in Mango and Brash and their antics, and the mystery kept me intrigued. The Dogman books have silly visuals and puns, but don’t go much further than that. InvestiGators is a series I would feel good sharing with my nephew, and I’d even want to pick up more of the series for myself!

Thank you NetGalley and First Second Books for the advanced reader copy.

A dear reading friend of mine introduced me to this series and this author. It is just the brand of cheesy and punny that I love! And the author totally breaks the 4th wall with this one and I LOVE it!

Our investigating gators: Brash and Mango are at the movies watching a detective show when they get called on to help solve an art heist mystery. Shenanigans ensue, art is critiqued and great art is revealed.

I loved all the art spoofs that were contained into this graphic novel: the Bona Lisa, Pigcasso, Panksy to name a few.

Funny, light-hearted, but still some social commentary to color the story for an older reader.

Highly recommended for fans of Dog Man, Captain Underpants and Zombie Goldfish.

Do you love bad dad jokes, or books that play with words? If you do you are going to love Investigators. This book is fantastic for any graphic novel reader who just loves having fun. If you have a younger kid let them read it. They may not get all the word play but that is okay. As they get better at reading let them read it again! The book will take on a whole new meaning. I love books that allow kids to continuously find new fun quirks each time they read it. This book is a perfect example of that. Any one of any age can sit down and thoroughly enjoy this story and these characters. I can’t wait to talk this up with all the kids when it comes out.

Thank you so much to First Second Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest reveiw.

This reveiw was special because I told my youngest son that he was going to be reading an ARC with me and it happened to be one of his favorite graphic novel series.

As a librarian in a elementary school, these boosk are hard to keep on the shelf. Students LOVE them and Heist and Seek will be no different.

Mango and Brash are here to save the day! They take their readers on an entertaining journey full of laughs and loads of puns.

My kiddo wanted to give it more than 5 STARS.

Heist and Seek had me laughing out loud. Yes, there is potty humor and vomit. Lots of vomit. Just what so many young children love. There is also a good plot and engaging illustrations. The author breaks the fourth wall in very humorous ways. This will be an automatic purchase for my library.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
