Violet Bentley bought the run-down Blue Heron Cottages and updated the small beachside resort in the quaint town of Moonbeam. Her brother, Rob, is temporarily living with her in the owner's cottage and helping with the resort. She adores him—really she does—he's all the family she has. And if he'd just keep his many opinions to himself, it would be the perfect arrangement. Aspen is stuck in a stream of bad luck and can't seem to break her streak. She receives a mysterious letter asking her to come to an all-expenses-paid week at the resort. She's intrigued, but can't afford to take time off work. When her boss fires her, the decision is made. She packs up all her belongings and heads for Moonbeam, curious about the letter and nowhere else to go. Still grieving the loss of her mother, Willow receives her own letter asking her to come to the resort. She's uncertain, but her husband encourages her to go. Maybe it has something to do with what her mother struggled to tell her—unsuccessfully—with her dying breaths. And Willow has to admit a week at the beach and time to relax might be just what she needs. What neither woman sees coming are the startling revelations the letters will bring to their lives. Memories of the Beach is the first book in a heartwarming series about Violet, the charming people of Moonbeam, and the guests who come to stay at Blue Heron Cottages.
Kay Correll is a USA Today bestselling author of sweet, heartwarming stories that are a cross between women’s fiction and contemporary romance. She is known for her charming small towns, quirky townsfolk, and the enduring strong friendships between the women in her books.
Kay splits her time between the Southwest coast of Florida and the Midwest of the U.S. and can often be found out and about with her camera, taking a myriad of photographs, often incorporating them into her book covers. When not lost in her writing or photography, she can be found spending time with her ever-supportive husband, knitting, or playing with her puppies - a cavalier who is too cute for his own good and a naughty but adorable Australian shepherd. Their five boys are all grown now and while she misses the rowdy boy-noise chaos, she is thoroughly enjoying her empty nest years.
This was my pick it for me book for May and it took me by surprise. It's a women's fiction with some romance added in. I loved the characters in this book and I enjoyed watching them grow. Aspen was an admirable woman who has been through a lot in her life. She could have become very jaded and bitter because of it, but she doesn't. She does however, have to learn to let go of her pride somewhat and trust other people. All of the characters in the story were easy to like and I appreciated that. This ended up being the perfect light comfort read for me between bigger books with darker, heavier themes. If you're looking for light women's fiction in the vein of Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove, then give this one a try. I liked it better than the Cedar Cove books.

Just finished book one, Memories of the Beach in the Blue Heron Cottage series. What a wonderful start to a series! I loved Aspen, Willow, Walker Violet, and especially Rose. My heart went out to Aspen, and all life has thrown at her. She is such a strong person. Even with all she has been through, she has a kind heart and truly cares for others. Her story touched my heart. Rose is such a caring yet lonely lady. When I read the last few pages of the book, my heart broke for Rose. Oh, Kay, I know why I read one of your series when I first bought my Kindle a few years ago. Your books are amazing. Your characters are amazing. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
I love that this book is a out family, friends and new beginnings. The characters are wonderful and you want to know more about their lives. The two sisters who were separated when they were very young are reunited by a mystery stay at Blue Heroin Cottages by the mother who gave one sister ill as a baby and abandoned the other as a teenager. This book will pull at your heart and make you want to wrap your arms and heart around both of these women. And you have the added bonus of the mysterious Rose. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Kay has done it again! I love her stories! And I love Aspen the newest resident of Moonbeam Beach! I see a wonderful new series in Kay's eyes! We Floridians feel like we've found our pieces of paradise! Mine on the east coast of Florida and these stories from the West coast! Bravo my friend!
Come to the beach, where you can find fun, deep, and interesting characters who are thrown into a family mystery. The characters are beautifully developed, as is the plot. It's set on a pristine beach with turqoise water, at the colorful, Blue Heron Cottages. It's a quik read with more story to follow!
Another sweet, lovely story from one of my very favorite authors! Kay Correll’s books NEVER disappoint. Small town, loving people who truly care about each other. September seems too far away (for the release of Book 2).
I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't hardly put it down and I can't wait for the next book🤗 ! Recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good romance with a bit of suspense!
This is was my first book by this author and I absolutely loved it. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read book 2 which I will be starting today.
This is the best story of 2 sisters who didn't know the other existed until they both receive a letter to go to Blue Heron Cottages.
Aspen's mother deserted her when she was 17. She didn't have the best mother and they moved around alot, never settling in one place. Aspen's dad left them when she was a little girl so she never knew her dad. Even when she was little, her mom would leave her days at a time and she wouldn't tell anyone because she was afraid of being taken away. She didn't have a good mom but it was all she knew and she was afraid it could be worse if she was taken away from her mom.
Imagine her suprise when she received mail from an attorney that included a letter from her mom telling her to go to Blue Heron Cottages in Moonbeam, FL . She has a weeks paid reservation there in her name. The letter said that she would find out about her past.
Aspen was suspicious but she had a dead end job so she figured why not. When she asked for a week off of work she was fired so she loaded everything she owned into her car, left her apartment and drove to Blue Heron Cottages.
Willow received an almost identical letter asking her to go to Blue Heron Cottages to find out about her past. Willow's mom had died less than a year before and she was still grieving. Her mom tried to tell her something important on her deathbed but died before she could say it. Maybe this trip could answer some questions.
This is a story of these 2 women, not knowing about each other and then developing a bond they never could have imagined. Aspen has never had a real family and in Moonbeam she finds family, friends who are like family and even romance.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story about family and friendship and then there is also the beach.
I liked this book pretty good. A cute, heartwarming story.
It is a story about Aspen who receives a letter from her mother, who see hasn't seen in years, asking her to come stay for a week at Blue Heron Cottages for free. She decides to go. Another lady named Willow also receives a letter asking her to come to Blue Heron Cottages for a week. She decides to go for a free vacation. What neither expect is some surprising revelations in other letters and from the lawyer who sent the letters. Will they be able to move past these revelations and forge a newfound friendship? Will it change their lives?
I just finished, in 1 day, Memories of the Beach by Kay Correll. This is Book #1 in a new series. Aspen receives a letter from her estranged mother's (Magnolia) lawyer. It states she has an all-expense paid week stay at Blue Herron Cottages in Moonbeam. Willow also receives the same letter. They meet at Magnolia's Attorney's office to discover a secret that could change their life. Cute story and i loved the ending. Very easy read. I will be on the lookout for book#2.
Start of a series set at the Blue Heron Cottages. On the beach owned by Violet. Two young woman are each sent a letter sending them to the cottages for a week. Coming together they find out they are in fact sisters that were separated years earlier.
This story was one of the best with sisters meeting for the first time, an unknown inheritance, and a return to a place where they had once lived. I love that so many of the Moonbeam Bay characters are part of the Blue Heron Cottages story. It's like meeting new friends and staying in touch!
I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the rest of the series. It's very engaging with warm and relatable characters, a charming setting, and a plot that is engrossing without being overwhelming.
Book 1 of the Blue Heron Cottages. You'll fall in love with the small town and with the characters. Enchanting. Perfect for a summer beach read or to snuggle with by the fire when you're dreaming of the beach. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I'm so happy to have more of the characters of Moonbeam in my life. New people, new stories about their lives, and mystery as well. Can't wait for more!
Correll writes such a heartwarming story with excellent characters. I really feel I could be friends with them!! I am so looking forward to reading the next installment of this series.
I really wanted to like this book more than I did, but I just didn't connect with the characters and the plot was dull. I likely won't continue reading the series.
I apologize to the author because this was a nice story but it was so juvenile and predictable and seemed to be written by someone at high school level.
