If you’re ready to let go of everything that’s holding you back from living a better life, this is your moment to Stop & Shift.
I heard Karen speak at a conference I attended last summer, where she introduced me to the idea of Stop & Shift. As someone who has struggled most of my life with anxiety, the idea of reprogramming my brain and thus my response to anxiety had never occurred to me. Much of my reaction to my anxiety manifests physically, and I’d simply accepted that. Is Karen’s book revolutionary? I’d venture probably not, though I haven’t read many self help books. But to me, the power in Karen’s process and approach lies in her determination and the enthusiasm she has for it. I really enjoyed this book and will absolutely refer to it as needed moving forward.
2.5 stars, rounded to 3 in good faith. The overall message is worth hearing, so I won't say I didn't get anything from this book, but I didn't get any more than I'd gotten from her presentation at a company event last year. The writing style broke the immersion for me; I was drawing good content from the book, but I had to weed it out through the conversational prose and the ill-constructed metaphors. Overall I think this story would make a better memoir than self-help book. I would not have finished it if I weren't reading it for a group.
Often times you read a book such as this and find 25% applicable to the practical life. Great read, recommended to several peers, pinned key insights that I will return to again and again.
