“You know what they say, lawful in the streets but chaotic in the sheets.”
Life has suddenly become very complicated for Dillon Strands. Having gone from a social pariah to the campus Casanova in just over a week, he now finds himself confused as to how to handle his new found life.
Resolving to take things as they come, he is just beginning to find his new normal when Suzie Andrews shatters the fragile tranquility he had finally found.
Can he find his solace and whose heart will have to break in order to do so? It may just be his own.
Alexa Sommers is a best-selling erotic fiction author with a taste for both the sweet and the nasty. Her Level Up series has lit up the genre and is continuing to expand as she looks onward to growing her portfolio of pleasure.
Alexa's Philosophy: The sexual experience, be it written, read, or enacted, can not be rushed. It must be savored and prolonged to push forth the lust and desire. It must not only be loved but lived, for only then can we reach the heights we seek.
For those of you who read my last review, you may recall that I waffled a little between four and five stars. I can say for this one there was ZERO waffling. I give this an enthusiastic five stars.
The Goods - Alexa continues to develop her characters. (Character development in erotica?!?!?!) And it's that that sets her stuff apart from so many others. That and a continuation of plot and everything else that makes a story good in my mind. There's a LOT MORE SEX in this story than there is in part one. Like, 1,000% more. And there's plenty of variety (though no girl/girl action. Yet.) It feels longer overall (though the page count seems to disagree) and I mean that in a good way. It reads quickly but there's so much more to it than the sex.
The Bads - Really the only thing I can think of is, some of the sex that goes on feels porn-y. Like, "this doesn't happen to people", but this is erotica and erotica is fantasy. And hell, this may be what college is like now (applies to local university). But if the worst thing I can saw about an erotic story is that it's a little unrealistic when it comes to how easy sex is to come by, then I don't think that's an issue.
Alexa addresses my very few concerns with the last story in this one. Birth control comes up (heh). And... That may have been it. Look, buy this is what I'm saying. You won't be sorry.
And when I say buy it, I mean that. I bought it. In spire of the fact that I have Kindle Unlimited. KU page reads do pay authors. It also pushes their numbers up in sales ranking. BUT she'll make more money if you pay the $2.99. And it's worth it. Seriously.
In this second installment of the Level Up story, freshman Dillon Strands has made the transition from gamer geek to becoming one of the seemingly most desirable young men on campus. Almost through no fault of his own, in the space of a week he has become a veritable Lothario. I mean that in a loving sense, not as as one who seduces women for manipulative purposes. The women are literally appearing in (almost) droves, and if there is any seduction going in, I think they are doing the bulk of it.
With this book, the story has made important progress in graduating from romance to erotica. If you could get them to read it, I think there is an important market for this series in the college gamer market, besides others.
The romance clearly does not suffer in this story. While Dillon's sexual experiences have clearly broadened, I think he is genuinely interested in each new girl, although his principal interest is still in the presumably as yet unavailable Suzie Andrews.
There is some excitement in this story, as well as sex and romance. I'll leave you to figure that out yourself, but clearly not everyone has successfully made the transition from high school to this collegiate nirvana.
I am having a great deal of fun reading this series, although I am stilling trying to puzzle out if there is any hidden symbolism in the pigtails that are gradually becoming de rigueur amoungst Dillon's growing proto-harem. At a minimum, they provide something to hold onto during certain activities.
I am very much looking forward to the next installment. I hear there is an Audible version in the works, and I can see this story doing well as an audiobook.
This was a fun romp amongst a group of college RPG fans. The game play aspect was unique among the books I’ve read and the sex scenes were as hot as you’d want. I didn’t read the first book, but this is written so that I didn’t feel like I was missing critical information, which is nice. There are a couple of loose threads that you’ll want to reach for book three to tie off. Well worth the borrow or purchase!
It’s a short book, but what a sweet ride! Dillon is getting all the girls interested in him. He is on a tailspin of erotic escapades at every turn. A very enjoyable reading experience.
I'm worried I might gush too much, and it was a blur reading all three books to date last night and this morning.
Wow. Just wow. Thoroughly hot, can't recommend it highly enough, totally envious of the characters and their university life. I wish my gaming group had been like this. I mean, not with the people who were in the real one ;) but with these characters... yummy.
I'm not even a fan of boardgaming, I'm an RPG snob too, and I loved those bits. If you like positive fiction about geeks, this is it.
There's even a villain, who is a nasty piece of entitled garbage that I hope gets a glorious comeuppance in the future. The only downside of the genre is that the villain is unlikely to be brutally murdered by a werewolf or something :D Which they certainly deserve.
The romantic elements are a big draw, and the steamy scenes are wonderful. More more more, please, Alexa.
I was excited to carry on with this series after enjoying the first book so much, and I enjoyed the second instalment even more than I did the first! But one word of warning, these are all quite short books and they are written to be read one after another. They are definitely not standalones. That being said, they are on Kindle Unlimited so it’s easy to pick up the entire series without breaking the bank if you have a KU subscription.
Keeping in mind that these books are not standalones, it may be tricky to write a review for this book without giving away spoilers for the first book, so please read this review with caution if you haven’t yet started this series. Or, better yet, go start the series!
In my review for Level One, I was open about the fact that I often felt lost in amongst all the gaming speak and nerdy banter, but there seemed to be a lot less of that in Level Two. It is still there as it is integral to the story and to the bond between Dillon and his friends. But, in Level One, the story was leaning more towards the gaming theme as the author was setting the scene for the rest of the series to take place. In Level Two, the story is much more focused on Dillon and his various relationships with the girls in his gaming group, which leads to a LOT of smutty fun!
I am starting to like Dillon more and more as I continue with this series and I’m enjoying seeing his confidence grow as several girls seem to be throwing themselves at him. The way he can’t seem to believe his new-found luck with the ladies is both amusing and endearing. He is dating several of the girls in his gaming group yet he still manages to come across as a good guy who cares about the girls he is involved with. All of the girls are aware of the situation and they are happy to keep things light and care-free while everyone is getting to know each other better, so there is no heartbreak and Dillon doesn’t look like cheating scum.
There are several very hot and steamy moments in this short book and they were all so well-written that I ended up having to fan myself a little as I was reading. There are a few touches of BDSM during some of the sexy moments but nothing too heavy or hardcore.
The character that I am most looking forward to getting to know more is Suzie. It’s obvious that she likes Dillon, but she is holding herself back from getting close to him, saying that she just doesn’t date. I feel like there is a deeper story there and I am excited to find out more about it as the series progresses. In fact, I am just excited in general to continue with the series, which might have something to do with the huge cliff-hanger that the author leaves us with at the end of Level Two!
I recommend this if you're looking for just a sexy book. Need a break from serious plots and a day at work, I think this would be it. I think imma read the next book. It was good to read something that wasnt too serious. It was enjoyable, and relaxing. I don't recommend this to someone who is looking to review it, critique it, look too deep into character development and being a douche about what books should be. I love Dillon and Suzie. I didn't like him with Stacie. It was a fun book. Imma buy the serious and when I'm stressed, this will be a go to series I can relax to.
Picking up right from where the first installation of the story left off, the second part of Level Up digs deeper into the newfound relationships of Dillon and his college gamer friends. The characters have grown since the last book and so have their troubles.
This second part focuses more on Dillon, Suzie and Dani. Dillon has learned to be more confident when it comes to romance, but that’s still not making things easy for him.
This girl can write! Consistent action throughout and a web of tangled connections leads you to think that this is going up in flames or will result in the ultimate male fantasy or both!
I am looking forward to reading level three.one and two were exceptionally well written and at times I felt fully involved with the action. This is especially surprising in view of the facts that I am 70 and impotent.
Oops forgot to enter it. Alexa Sommers Level Up Nymphology was a great book #2 in the series. Strong characters, wonderful story, spicy romance too. I like the type of game playing as it forces folks that are not social to expand their boundaries. Alexa is a talented writer.
