The Brothers of Wolf Isle #3

The Highlander’s Tudor Lass

Rate this book
Callum Macquarie would give anything to go back to the Highlands and Wolf Isle. Instead, he’s stuck circling an undefended English castle in too-tight breeches, longing for his bed and his plaid. But he has an oath to to bring home the bonny Anna Montgomerie and her sister before that devil of a blaggard pirate Jundeau finds them first. Only the lass he’s come to rescue has no interest in going back to Scotland with him. Or ever.

To hell with Callum and his oath. Anna won’t step one foot in Scotland—no matter the danger. Not after what she’s left behind, and not while there’s a chance she can remain in England. But she has a plan. And the only hitch involves a braw, fiercely protective highlander who refuses to leave…and whose touch burns hotter than fire.

Now Anna and Callum are caught between the threat coming for Anna. Staying means danger. Leaving means death. And a blazing attraction that could spoil everyone’s plans.

I am Heather McCollum, writer of 16th and 17th century Scottish romance full of adventure and intrigue, sprinkled with humor, history, and spice. Brawny Highlanders and feisty heroines are my favorite characters!

I am also a mom of three kids, dog-mom of one rescued geriatric golden retriever, and wife of one 6 foot 4 inch Highlander. When I’m not trying to help my kids make it through the day, baking things I see on The Great British Baking Show, or writing, I’m usually educating women on ovarian cancer (I’m a nine-year survivor).

I love kilted heroes, chai lattes, and eating buttered air-popped popcorn for dinner on Friday nights (my dog loves this one too).

✨This book was saved by Callum going absolutely Die Hard on those pirate booties✨

I didn’t mind the beginning, I was seething during the middle, and I was soothed by John McClane nay Brian Mills nay Callum Macquarie and his certain set of skills. The comedy started to shine by the end and the writing finally found its stride.

It would’ve been very interesting if the story started with the women captured by pirates for a while, only to have Callum sidle up or pretend to be one of them (you know like small hints he’s a good guy and seductive glances and all that idk) only to go absolutely Die Hard on their booties. Maybe it would’ve been more of a novella, but it could’ve been so metal. McCollum wrote those action sequences super well and I felt like I was watching a movie and I really wanted more of that!! A long con would’ve been so fun.

The inclusion of Elizabeth, Katherine, and Seymour was just tiring because honestly I don’t want historical accuracy. I do not want to see a grown ass creep feeling up a fourteen year old girl, lie about it, and succeed in throwing away her protection so she’s even more vulnerable. We got a letter at the end saying Elizabeth was fine and that Seymour was absolutely executed, but it muddled the plot nonetheless. I’m not that familiar with that part of history, so I had to Google what the hell was going on.

Then, I really could not tolerate Griggs and the fact that Anna just would NOT trust Callum about him until wayyyy too late. Like lady you’re asking Griggs for a loan to start a bakery after everything he’s done and said about you??? Anna was lacking any amount to sense for a good long while there and I was supremely annoyed. Thank god she can throw rocks though. I would’ve loved for Griggs to not exist in this book because it almost made it a love triangle and it extended for too long a period of time.

But like I said, the ending was actually very fun and I was impressed how it changed the tune of the story for me. I’m interested in the next book and am excited to see if that one works better for me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶/5

CW: There was a lot of talk about violence against women and the like. Not by the hero.

I received an advance ebook copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for review.

The Highlander’s Tudor Lass by Heather McCollum is the third book of the Brothers of Wolfe Isle. Callum Macquarie wants more than anything to return to Wolfe Isle, but when he goes to an English castle to fetch Anna Montgomerie and her sister to bring back to Scotland, Anna refuses to go. Even though the pirate Jundeau is looking for the girls and intends to do them harm.

It was interesting to see real life figures featured in this story to support historical accuracy. While a bit slow in the beginning, the story picks up toward the end.

The Highlander’s Tudor Lass by Heather McCollum
The brothers of Wolf Isle series #3. Scottish historical romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series.
Callum Macquarie stays at Sudeley Castle trying to convince Anna a to leave with him back to Scotland before the pirate Jundeau finds them. But Anna doesn’t want to leave and doesn’t trust Callum.
Danger does arrive as does a proposal and it’s up to Callum to save the day.

Loved Callum’s humor and refusal to leave her in danger. While she’s all about protecting other women, she doesn’t have the power to really help. I did admire her not giving up and taking every opportunity to find rocks to throw.
It’s interesting the actual history and historical facts that are included but I’m reading for the romance and adventure and didn’t care for the Queen’s inclusion and acts.
The story ramps up in the last quarter for some adventurous dazzle.
🎧 I alternated between a paperback and audiobook copy. The audiobook is narrated by Timothy Campbell who did a good job with keeping my attention and making the characters come alive.

Callum Macquarie comes to England tasked with returning to Wolf Isle with Anna and Dora Montgomery, he’s not prepared for Anna’s complete disinterest in going with him. However, Anna’s stubborn refusal leads to many complications and potentially dangerous situations. Can Callan convince Anna to return with him and Dora to Wolf Island before the nefarious pirate Jundeau finds them?

I always become so engrossed in Heather McCollum’s historical romances. I think it’s a combination of the layered and dynamic characters, the lush settings, and the wonderful love stories that always pull me in.

A light-hearted man who hides behind his humor, Callum is often underestimated, and he feels like he is the weak link in his family. Callum sees this task as a way to prove his capabilities to his family, so imagine his frustration when Anna refuses to go with him. I really like his character. He has a lot of respect for women, and he never diminishes their voices. He is a warrior with a tender heart and a relentless drive to protect others and prove himself worthy to his family. He’s also pretty strategic, clever, and brave as he fights against those that wish to harm Anna, Dora, and himself.

Anna is a strong and brave woman who has had a difficult life. She loves her sisters fiercely, and there’s nothing she won’t do to support and protect them. But Anna has secrets that could destroy any future she has, and she’s desperate to remain safely in England. She works so hard to keep others safe, but by doing so, she actually puts herself at risk. Luckily, Callum is as loyal and determined as her, and he swore an oath to protect her. Callum and Anna are both such dynamic characters, and I enjoyed their individual stories as much as their romance.

Callum and Anna have such a swoon-worthy romance. They are both stubborn and loyal to those they love. I love that he trusts in her skill and capabilities. He sees her for the strong, protective, and determined woman she is, and he believes in her. They have such amazing chemistry, and their banter is wonderful. They’re like kindred spirits, and their love story is entertaining, romantic, and full of chemistry!

The plot is suspenseful and exciting, as Anna tries to protect her charge, struggles to find her place, and becomes a prisoner of a nefarious pirate and his accomplices. Callum is the consummate protector and will not stop until he brings the women to safety even though he faces insurmountable odds. Their journey is entertaining and dangerous and really engrossing.

I enjoyed this book. It’s exciting and unique, and I loved the characters and the romance. I would definitely recommend it to historical romance readers! Thanks so much to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Series: The Brothers of Wolf Isle #3
Publication Date: 8/22/22
Period: Tudor England - 1547

I have been looking forward to the release of this book for a while now. I’ve read the first two books in the series and they were non-stop action and excitement with a romance just as exciting as the action parts. Not this one. It is a nice read but is missing the action and excitement of the other books. In the first two books, the pirate Claude Jandeau was a fierce, mighty, nasty pirate who stole away innocent women and children and sold them into slavery to men who wanted them. He is bound and determined to get the Montgomerie sisters into his nasty hands. So far, the only thing that has stood in his way is the Macquarie brothers. One of the brothers married the older Montgomerie sister and now, since their father’s death, she wants to bring her sisters to Wolf Isle to live with her. Callum and Drostan (twins) Macquarie were dispatched to Hawick to accompany the four sisters back to the isle. When they arrived, two of the sisters had left for England. Drostan accompanied the two sisters (Kat and Agnes) who were at Hawick back to Wolf Isle and Callum continued to Sudeley Castle in England to retrieve Anna and Dorothia (Dora) and then accompany them north to Wolf Isle.

Since the pirate Jandeau escaped before he could be hanged, the Montgomerie ladies cannot be left unprotected. Anna and Doro are in the employ of the Dowager Queen Katherine Parr Seymour as Ladies to Princess Elizabeth. When Anna refuses to leave, Callum knew he had to stay until he could convince her to leave.

We spent several months or about 70% of the book at Sudeley Castle with Callum trying to convince Anna and dealing with the English who looked down upon him. This part went on much, much too long. When they were deceived and ended up in the hands of Jandeau, it was a tad more exciting, but not by much. Jandeau was a mere shadow of himself and really didn’t pose much of a threat at all.

I enjoyed the book; it just wasn’t the exciting, page-turning, swashbuckling read I had expected. I wanted some exciting cross-country chases, or sword fights onboard a pirate ship or … something. It did get livelier; it just wasn’t that bone-tingling excitement from the previous books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

2.5 stars rounded up.

Callum Macquarie wants nothing more than to return to his beloved home in the Highlands, but first he must endure an inadequately defended English castle for however long it takes to convince lovely Anna Montgomerie and her sister, Dora, to return with him and be reunited with their elder sister. He has an oath to keep and that means getting them home safely and before the pirate Jandeau learns where they are. Unfortunately, Anna has no desire to ever return to Scotland and declares herself to be not in need of rescue.

Anna isn’t interested in Callum or any oath he might’ve made. She’s unconcerned for any dangers and has no intention to return to Scotland after the way she left it. She’d much prefer to make a new life for herself in England and she has a plan to make that happen if the handsome highlander would just stay out of her way.

This was not the book I’d expected for lighthearted, joking, smiling Callum and it didn’t have quite the romance or the fast-paced, suspenseful edge of the other books in the series. Perhaps the English setting is some of what threw this one a little off for me, and Anna, the heroine, didn't help either. She came off as being very peevish, and unnecessarily rude to Callum when he was merely trying to help. She was very immature in her dealings with him, for instance stomping on his foot twice within the first few chapters as her preferred method of expressing her displeasure, as if she were taking out her resentment toward her older sister on him. It was also bizarre to me that she describes having fantasized about Callum’s brother, Beck, coming to take her away. Especially when combined with her rudeness toward Callum, this watered down any romance that was burgeoning between them, and that’s before we even bring in Baron Elias Grigg, the true third corner of this bizarre love triangle.

The whole storyline with Elias offering to marry Anna and give her and her sister lives of wealth and privilege was pretty flimsy and made no sense given that they had nothing to bring to the marriage themselves and there was clearly no incentive for him to marry someone with no wealth or title. The fact that Anna couldn’t see this made her intelligence seem questionable and the fact that she entertained the idea of a romantic attraction to Elias, even for a short time, made it hard to believe she’d so quickly transferred her affections to Callum. This undermined the love connection between Callum and Anna for me, a connection that was already flimsy because Anna is nothing but mean to Callum and about the country that he loves for much of the book. Yet, somehow Callum is telling Anna that she’s wonderful during this time and I was left wondering what he saw and questioning his intelligence too. The competitiveness between Callum and Elias was just a bit weird and the humor that I think it was meant to infuse was lost on me. In fact, I found more humor in the villains as they bumbled about ineptly. Much of the book just seemed like a way to make a spectacle of Callum as the wild Highlander with quite a bit of inane conversation thrown in and Anna quite obviously trusting where she shouldn’t and realizing her mistake when it was nearly too late.

By the time she came around and realized how great Callum was and how much she wanted to be with and create a home with him, it was a bit too late for me to be fully convinced of their deep love. I still have high hopes for the remaining brothers’ stories, but this one felt rushed, with a scattered and rather flimsy plot that just didn’t quite work for me.

This is the third book in the series & is easily read on its own. I love the author’s books, which are usually packed full of action, tension & excitement so I was a tad disappointed with this book. It promised much from the blurb but the first three quarters were staid by the author’s standards & whilst the last part of the book did become faster paced it was still tepid. I think this is the first time I’ve not rated her book five stars. It was well written with wonderful characters & a good read just not the engrossing, enthralling read I’ve become used to

After the evil villain, Claude Jandeau escaped the gallows and vowed revenge against the Macquaries, Lark begs for the brothers to bring her half-sisters to Wolf Island. Callum, the middle brother, learns that two of Lark’s sisters, Anna and Dora, have left Scotland and are currently in England at Sudeley Castle working for the former Queen of England, Katherine Parr, now Katherine Seymour. Concerned for their safety, he sets out to find them and bring them home. He is sure once the girls learn of Jandeau’s vow of revenge, they will be eager to leave. Poor delusional man…

Anna Montgomerie fled Scotland with her little sister Dora after the death of her father and swore to never return. She was able to secure a position in Sudeley Castle and soon she and Dora befriended Princess Elizabeth and were elevated to her companions. She is content in her position and hopes to make a new life for herself in England and forget the horrors of her past. So when the oh-so-handsome, Callum comes to drag her back to Scotland, she is attracted to him, but flatly refuses and things then take a strange turn when Elias, Baron Grigg, a friend of Thomas Seymour, proposes to her out of the blue. Despite meaning she would be elevated in status and have a home of her own in England, she doesn’t immediately accept.

Callum doesn’t give up and insists on staying with her, going as far as to follow her to Grigg’s estate when she once again refuses to return to Scotland with him. That is when things get interesting and Callum will have to use all his wits to keep them all alive.

While I did like this story, it didn’t hold my attention the way the first two books did, the story starts very slow and repetitive, and sadly, nothing really interesting happens until about two-thirds through the book. However, the last third of the book is outstanding and somewhat makes up for the snoozefest beginning, and if you have been following this series, you will definitely want to read this installment. This is the third book in the series and I would recommend reading the books in order to truly understand certain aspects of the story, including Jandeau and the Macquaries curse.

Callum Macquarie is very impressive. He has the patience of a saint waiting for Anna Montgomerie to make up her mind to leave England and go to Wolf Isle. Anna has a secret and is afraid of going back to Scotland. Callum must change her mind. He's also a very creative dancer when it comes to swords. He is more than willing to teach Anna and her sister Dora how to ride horses on their trip. Most important of all, he and help from three lasses, take down a group of pirates and an earl. My favorite part of the book!

I always find it a pure joy to read this author's books and this one was no exception. Heather McCollum writes from the heart and it shows in her stories. I also love all the historical research that goes into them. As usual, the characters are fully developed and you can't help but feel a kinship to them.

I adored Callum, such a braw and loyal Highlander, determined to accomplish the mission he was sent to do. There was such a lightness to him and yet he also showed a very strong side. I also loved Anna and when you find out why she doesn't want to return to Scotland, you can't help but want to be by her side and fight all the injustices in her world. I also need to learn how to throw rocks! lol

Loved, loved, loved this story and can't wait to read the next one in the Brothers of Wolf Isle series. So very well written and leaves you wanting more from this author!!

4 Stars! I really enjoyed this book. This is the 3rd book in the ‘Brothers of Wolf Isle’ series and can be read as a standalone, for the most part. I read the first book, missed the second and I wish I had read book 2 before I read this third book. It’s still a good book but I missed a few things by not reading the second book. The main characters, Callum and Anna, were great together. They are both caring, protective and honorable. Perfect for one another.
I did feel like the book was pretty predictable for the most part. Still I enjoyed reading it. It has mystery, action, fighting against the odds, witty banter, murder, a few steamy ‘sexy times’, pirates, and love, finished off with an HEA ending.

I really like and support this author. This book just sort of didn’t do it for me. Her writing is fantastic and kept to her style (which it seemed to go away from in the other publisher series). The first book in this series is my favorite book from her!

I think it’s a me thing. I’m just not interested in Tudor court stuff. If you are then you will enjoy seeing prominent names and this author really does her research.

The action was a bit lower than the other two but Callum and Anna had some great action scenes towards the end. You’ll see a familiar villain that continues his arc here.

I’ll definitely continue this series and am excited to see what’s next!

This was a good paced story with plenty of action. I did like the main character of Callum, a strong, handsome highlander, who wasn’t without doubts of his own. This made him more likeable as he wasn’t full of himself. Anna was strong willed and a little too stubborn at times. I couldn’t understand why, as an intelligent woman, she trusted one of the men. This is steamy in parts and although part of a series, could be read as a stand-alone. I found this to be an entertaining read. I was given a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. Another great story

But honestly the heroine annoyed me and so did Callum. I knew from the start why that guy wanted to take her to his home. They were smart enough to figure it out but they didn't. And she annoyed me by her lollygagging about who she was going to marry. Or what she was going to do. I just hate that. But I loved when they worked together to bring down the bad guys. It was great. I loved Callum. He was a wonderful hero. But the best part of the story was the tree! I have to keep reading to see it come back to life!

Reviewed for Wit and Sin

The middle Macquarie brother finds love – if he can convince the stubborn woman of his dreams to come to Scotland with him – in The Highlander's Tudor Lass . Callum Macquarie yearns to be taken seriously by his brothers, which is why he’s determined to fulfill his sister-in-law’s request that he bring her sisters Anna and Dora home to Wolf Isle. Except when he comes upon the Montgomerie sisters, Anna beans him with a pomander. This is not the laughing, sweet woman he expected to find. Anna has fled Scotland and is now serving the young English princess, Elizabeth Tudor. She has no intention of going back to Scotland, not now, not ever. But with a pirate bent on revenge hunting for the Macquarie brothers and the Montgomerie sisters, Anna and her sister aren’t safe at Sudeley Castle. And the longer Anna is around Callum, the more she’s torn between the life she has told herself she wants and the promise of what could be between her and the handsome highlander.

Anna and Callum are both easy to like. Anna is strong and protective, determined to do what’s best for those in her care. She hasn’t had anyone she could lean on for a long time and she knows that evil can lurk even where there should be safe harbor. Callum has strong shoulders and a good heart. He desperately wants to be taken seriously by his brothers, which leads him to make mistakes, but at his heart he’s a strong and kind warrior. He shows Anna he believes in her and wants her to be free, not stifled like she is among the English lords and ladies. The two of them have great chemistry and it was easy for me to fall into their story.

Threats abound in The Highlander's Tudor Lass . There are court machinations at Sudeley, a suspicious lord bent on sweeping Anna off her feet, and the evil pirate Jandeau is always a danger. Heather McCollum weaves these threads through the romance, never taking the focus off Anna and Callum. I adored these two strong and sweet protagonists and was delighted by their happily ever after. McCollum’s highlander heroes always delight as do the women who love them. I’m looking forward to seeing what McCollum has in store for the next Brothers of Wolf Isle book!

The Highlander’s Tudor Lass by Heather McCollum
Brothers of Wolf Island #3

Wolf Island is cursed, the Maquauarie brothers hope to break the curse and heal the island, two brothers have met their mates and healing has begun, Callum’s turn to work some magic comes in this story that sees him off to England on a quest.

What I liked:
* Callum: twin, charmer, middle brother, twin, quick, deadly, wants to prove himself, in England to save his sister-in-law’s sisters and bring them home to Wolf Island
* Anna: sister, protective, intelligent, seeks safety, had a rather horrid father, ran to England with her sister seeking a better life, hot tempered, has a strong throwing arm, defends the weak
* Dora: Anna’s younger sister, friends with Elizabeth Tudor, also has a strong throwing arm
* The roots in fact with real people from history playing parts
* The developing relationship between Callum and Anna
* That Anna was not a doormat and stood up for herself
* The setting and era the story was written in
* Mary: a maid that showed strength in adversity – hope she comes through alright
* Being able to dislike the bad guys – do hope that the evil pirate eventually meets a horrible fate
* The way bad guys were picked off toward the end of the story
* That I knew Callum would win Anna’s affection, not the pompous Englishman that I could see through from his first appearance in the story
* Thinking about what will happen Anna and her sisters as the series progresses
* That there are two more books left in the series to look forward to

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Knowing that evil has always existed…and will never bet stamped out

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I rad more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Two oaths. One sworn to locate, protect and return two young women believed to be in danger. The second, never to return to Scotland.

Callum Macquarie is a younger brother, whose quick to jest nature, has him believing he does not garner much respect from his brothers. He swears and oath to his eldest brother's wife to bring her sisters home safely, and it is a vow he will not break in order to prove to himself that he is more than what his brother's believe him to be.

But Callum's oath strictly contradicts Anna Montgomerie's (one of the sister's he is sent to rescue) whose past in Scotland haunts her. A past attached to a country she has promised herself never to return to. Not just for the horrific memories it holds, but because of the actions she took which forced Anna to run.

Locating Anna and her younger sister Dora, brings Callum to the court of a future English queen and the dangers which already lurk within its bounds. Already sent to protect Anna and Dora from a pirate with a personal vendetta against the sisters, Callum is surprised by his attraction to a Scottish lass whose determination and pride has him wishing to join forces. Add in a suitor for Anna and conflict abounds. And we soon find out if in order for Anna and Callum to survive one or both of their sworn oaths will need to change.

The Highlander's Tudor Lass is the third book in Heather McCollum's The Brother's of Wolf Isle series. I will admit to feeling a bit confused at the beginning of the book. There was a hurried nature to the opening chapters which had me feeling at odds with myself whether or not to continue reading. But having been instantly drawn in by Callum's character, I am pleased that I continued reading. I loved Callum and how he viewed and respected Anna immediately for the strengths she possessed. And his own growth in realizing in the end that his brother's never allowing him to go at a task alone was not based on Callum's inabilities but in the fact that a team is often what is needed to survive life's biggest hurdles. I do believe it would have benefited me greatly to have read the first two books in the series, as the vendetta with the pirate that was after Anna and Dora, featured in the previous books and would have brought me further context into the story. Sadly, it felt like I started a novel more in the middle than in the beginning. Since finishing The Highlander's Tudor Lass, I have rectified this situation by purchasing the first two books in the series as once I got passed the opening chapters I really enjoyed Heather's McCollum's writing and characterization.

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an ARC of The Highlander's Tudor Lass.

I'm normally a big fan of Heather McCollum novels, but I'll freely admit that having not read the previous Brothers of Wolf Isle books, I did feel that there was some vital information that I was missing. You're able to piece most of it together with context clues and some hints of backstory but I think that my emotional investment would have been higher had I read the previous novels in the series (completely my own fault, but it's not the best book to pick up if you want a standalone).

My main problem with the book is that I didn't really love Anna as the heroine. From the get go, she is just sort of there. Everything that Callum likes about her is sort of tacked on, but her primary role in the beginning of the book is just to be stubborn and a bit rude considering that Callum is there to help, first and foremost. As the book went on I did warm to her, but I wasn't a fan of how many times she seems to resort to punching or stomping on Callum, even though he doesn't have much of a reaction. I also didn't totally buy Callum as the fun-loving and jovial brother that he is described as because he's not having much fun in this book at all.

Once the novel leaves all of the Tudor madness, it picks up, but before that, there's just so much of Thomas Seymour, Katherine Parr, and Elizabeth Tudor in characterizations that don't flatter any of them. Seymour was a terrible person, that much is widely known, but no one else especially comes across well either. This wouldn't matter as much if the plot moved faster or wasn't as repetitive but unfortunately, that's what makes the issues stand out as much as they do.

A quest to bring Anna back to her sister's while avoiding pirates.

This book felt like two different types of books. The first half felt like a drama with Callum and Anna getting to know eachother and her life looking after future Queen Elizabeth, and the second half felt more like an action style book. I really liked the latter half of the book, but felt like it drug on so much in Anna trying to decide if she wanted to come with Callum or go elsewhere.

I felt like having more of Anna's backstory earlier would have helped in understanding her behavior and indecision. I think Callum sharing his background helped fuel the romance versus the leaving me wondering with Anna.

I enjoyed this book and hope the next is full of action!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

I thought Callum and Anna’s story was a little funny and very entertaining. I liked that the book moved quickly. The story background was whimsical, but bought exciting drama to the story. I loved that the writer portrayed Callum as a well muscular, large Scottish man, as well as a man who has charm, class and style. Anna was a bit to spoiled or naive for me. Don’t ever turn your back on your country lass.

While I have enjoyed other books in this series, I found it difficult to get into this one. Maybe I wasn’t in the right frame of mind, maybe because I am not fond of English court, but the beginning part of this book was a struggle for me. Once the characters started for Chester, to a competing swain’s abode, I was more engrossed. I liked the characters. I enjoyed the storyline, there was mild steam and some humor. I would have liked more conflict between Callum and Anna. On the whole, I enjoyed this read.

I received a free copy from Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.

Another excellent story in the Wolf Island series. It is a fast moving story with a great plot and wonderful characters. Callum is sent on a mission to take two young ladies from England to Scotland. Anna has decided to turn what he thought would be an easy task into a difficult one. Callum is brash and bold and clashes with the fiery and stubborn personality of Anna. The story is very interesting as the conversations are witty and funny. Callum is able to win Anna’s love by giving her the reassurance she needs to be strong in who she is.

It was a good read, but i think that the author used a lot of time circling around the historic context that pulled me off the story, but the main love story was nice and sometimes cute, recommended for those who love romance.

History comes alive in this stunning romance!

From the very beginning, we're off to an exciting and historically relevant start. The villain in this story is a real-life villain, and the author brilliantly ties his crimes to those of a fictional father to our fictional heroine, Anna. And I don't use that term just for convention - she truly is a heroine in her own right throughout this book. She's had to become a fierce warrior to protect herself and her sisters from a threat that is, unfortunately, still all too familiar even in today's "advanced" civilization.

Callum, the middle of five brothers, feels he has a lot to prove to his brothers and so he's determined to complete his mission to bring Anna and her sister, Dora, back to Scotland to join their older sister, Lark, now married to Callum's eldest brother, Adam. He doesn't understand why she refuses to leave England, but he more than understands the threats against her from the pirate, Jandeau.

There's plenty of romance along the way, and the action includes secrets, murder, betrayal, and a couple of particularly nasty villains who will make you disown any English roots in your own ancestry. Callum and Anna's love is tested again and again, by themselves and the threats against them, and eventually Callum is outnumbered eleven to one and has to rely on an assortment of unlikely warriors to see them all to safety.

Their HEA proves successful in bringing more healing to the willow tree that symbolizes the rebirth of Wolf Isle, and the letter from her once childhood friend serves as a beautiful epilogue that reminds us that the Me, Too movement has its roots buried deep in our shared history. It's a beautiful story from start to finish, and as much as I loved Adam and Beck in the first two books, I have to admit Callum completely stole my heart and he's now my favorite Macquarie brother.

If you love swoon-worthy, swash-buckling Highlander heroes, you don't want to miss this book. It's everything I'd hoped for and more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The Highlander's Tudor Lass
Heather McCollum
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Callum Macquarie would give antything to be back in the Highlands and Wolfe Isle. Instead he is stuck at an English castle that is not defended, in breeches that are too tight. He longs to be in his bed and wearing his plaid. But he has an oath to keep. He's promised his brothers that that he would bring home the bonny Anna Montgomerie and her sister before that horrible pirate Jundeau gets to them first. The only problem is that the lass he's come to rescue doesn't want to be rescued or go back to Scotland.

Anna will not step one foot back into Scotland again, no matter how dangerous it is in England for her. Not after what she's left behind, and certainly not while there's still a chance she can remain in England. She does have a plan though. And the only hitch involves the braw and fiercely protective highlander who refuses to leave, and sets her soul on fire with one touch.

Heather McCollum is absolutely fantastic. This book is so good. From the minute I opened it and started reading, I felt like I went back in time. Ms. McCollum is one of my go to authors because I enjoy her style of writing immensely. It was nice to see Callum and Anna find their happy ever after after what they endured. I always enjoy seeing characters from her other books appear in a new book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical and Tudor romances. Thank you for taking me away from the hustle and bustle of life Ms. McCollum.

This story begins with a letter written by Lark's sister. Two are still in England and Lark is concerned. Callum has been sent to get the last two girls. But they are staying with a princess and her stepmother. They stopped for a job and got accepted. Elizabeth the princess and Dora are the same age. Anna sees her stepfather put her on his lap, but she stops him from doing what he planned and now he has ruined anna's name. He the stepfather went and told the princess's stepmother that it was all Anna's fault and she and her sister were sent immediately away. Callum had stayed with them in case they needed help. Now they were heading to Chester. Callum was a twin, the oldest, and the third son. He felt that he should show how serious he was about his duty. He had always been happy. Even when it was thought he should be serious. Anna has also been accused of killing her father. He drank at night until his wife died and then he drank all the time. He finally decided to hurt one of Anne and Lark's sisters and she tossed a well-placed stone into his body. She had also thought she killed him.

This was a tense story, especially toward the end. It is exciting and thrilling, oh yes, we also have pirates. They manage to scatter things to the winds. The characters, the sisters, and Callum get along, but Anna is firmly against going back to Scotland, it is a great novel and I enjoyed it immensely.

“The tempest thinks it can best us, but we stand strong against it…”

Callum Macquarie and his brothers are committed to rebuild their ancestral home on Wolf Isle. Being cursed for over 100 years, it won’t be an easy endeavor, but with hard work, they have faith it can be done. While his brothers are working on rebuilding their clan, Callum has been tasked with saving their kinfolk from the blood-thirsty pirate Jandeau. Callum travels to England to retrieve Anna Montgomerie and her sister in order to bring them back to the safety and protection of the clan on Wolf Isle. But Anna is damned and determined never to set foot in Scotland ever again…even if her would be rescuer is a brawny highlander that sets her soul aflame.

Heather McCollum has a gift for weaving funtastical tales full of smexxy highlanders! For some reason, I struggled with the first half of this book. Perhaps it was Anna’s stubborn nature beginning to grate a wee bit on my nerves, or maybe I was missing the high seas swashbuckling adventure from the previous story. While this wasn’t my fav of the Wolf Isle series thus far, it’s still an enjoyable read and I’d recommend.

I love this series. I really enjoyed Callum and Anna's story. She was so stubborn and was the grump of this story. Which I kind of liked. And Callum is pretty patient with her, never pushing too hard and trying to figure out the real reason she is reluctant to return home.

I can't wait to see what happens next in this series!

Callum Macquarie would love nothing more than to be at home on Wolfe Island. Instead, he has made his way to England to find Anna Montgomerie and her sister and bring them back to Scotland. They're in danger because the pirate Jundeau is looking for them. But Anna is refusing to return to Scotland.

Anna could care less that Callum made an oath to her sister. She will not set foot in Scotland again. Not after the things she had to endure after her sister left. She has a plan but the protective highlander will not leave.

When they are caught kissing her plans are thrown off and she must now either accept a Baron's offer or return with Callum. Until they all come face to face with the horrid Jundeau.

Thank you so much to the author, Entangled, and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

THE HIGHLANDER'S TUDOR LASS By Heather McCollum

Callum is sent to England by his brother's to get Anna and Dora back to Wolf Isle before a scorned Pirate Jundeau finds them. Now Anna refuses to go back to Scotland and wants to make a new life for herself right there in England.

😊What i liked -

✔ Historical Romance /Opposite Attracts.
✔ I absolutely love the Scottish accent , so it was a big high reading this book with the both Scottish and English accent in my head (and mind you I cannot copy the accent to even save my).
✔ I loved Callum's character. He is sweet, caring , intelligent, strong yet vulnerable.
✔ Anna comes off as a strong, brave woman who will do just about anything to keep her sisters safe. (I love it when there is a strong female character)
✔ This book has it all: drama, twists, heartache, love and action.
✔ I absolutely loved the bit where Callum is taking down Jundeau.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ I found the part in Sudeley Castle a bit stretched.

Alright ALRIGHT OK. OK IM SORRY. LEAVE ME ALONE. Tbh I keep going through these cause Timothy Campbell is a phenomenal VA and some are free on audible 😭 but now I’m catching myself saying “ye” instead of “you” and considering asking Michael to call me lass from now on so I think (: it’s time (: to pause (:

Honestly they’re written decently well in that I very rarely find myself thinking about the writing. So already a win. The plot tho…
These books are short little balms for the way outlander (the show) destroyed and scarred me so I’m going to chalk up this binge to healing my inner 25 year old.

They’re fine. I do appreciate the level of vulnerability between the two mcs in each book being what is the break through for them both. But if I have to hear “it’s not fair. Women have the harder lot, monthly pains, Bairn bearing, and we’re not strong enough to protect ourselves.” Again I’m gonna scream in my yard.

Here I go back to finish the next one (:
