Mr Cartwright is really hitting his straps as the series progresses. The characters are being actively developed, Freya and Ben in particular, with others like Gillespie and Cruz now becoming more interesting. And, for the first time I think, one or two laugh-out-loud moments, which is good. A well-worked denouement without the complexity which many crime authors seem to think is obligatory. However I'm puzzled that the prologue doesn't really make sense in the end - is it just me? Also, flora (not fauna) might be uncovered by melting snow. But I'm very much liking this series and immediately onto #5.

In all it was an ok read, seemed to drag a bit but I like it gives you a bit of background on the characters so if you were to just pick up this book and not read the first ones you’d have an idea, without repeating it to much for those working through the series. I don’t know if it was the way it’s been translated to kindle but there were a fair few “missing” words so the punctuation didn’t flow, also a name mistake, clearly talking about Abigail the missing girl, the name Emily was put in, I read and re read that section a few time to make sure I wasn’t miss understanding but, no, it was clearly a name mistake. I like the chemistry between Ben and freya and the building friendships within the team though.

Called this the minute they went to pick up the blueprints for the hospital, so after that I was basically done with this book. Bloom’s fantasies regarding Savage are ridiculous, I don’t know if the author wants us to want them to be a couple but the idea of the two of them makes me physically cringe. He’s clueless and she just seems desperate. Plus her innuendoes while he is supposedly dealing with the death of a woman from his past is inappropriate. Its also obvious that the author watched one to many Carry On films while writing this. Also book four another young female murder. That's 4 for 4 in this series.

Two things are puzzling me about this series…..one I don’t know why I keep reading these books because I cannot stand DI Bloom and two I find it so bizarre that these books have so many 4/5 stars.

Best one yet.

Well, that was a great read. I've enjoyed the previous books in the series but this one is, by far, the best. I really like how all the main characters are gelling so well together. It was interesting to see a different side to Ben in particular. He suffered emotionally with this case but was still there as the strong, reliable sidekick to Freya. I particularly enjoyed the growth of Cruz - bless him! If you enjoy this genre of books and haven't read any of this series, I suggest you start with book 1. You are in for a treat. Now I have to wait impatiently for the next two books. A job well done, Bravo Jack.

I really enjoyed this and had forgotten how good a detective novel can be!…

Abigail McGowan is reported missing and DI Freya Bloom and DS Ben Savage are tasked with the investigation. When a body is found in a disused drain they fear the worst, but it ends up being the body of Marie Treverne and she has a past with Ben. Both cases are seemly unconnected until it is discovered that Neil and Gloria Gutteridge abducted Marie 12 years ago and held her hostage so that she could provide them with their much longed for children, so when Marie killed herself to escape her captured life, Abigail is selected to be their next victim.

Took me ages to read and think if I got through it quicker I would’ve rated it higher as I much prefer quick reads.

About two missing girls, that went missing at separate times and one of them is found dead and Abigail is still missing.

The book follows the police department and the investigation, they find Abigail and the result is not how I expected.

A couple in the village couldn’t have children, so they abducted Marie to have children for them, after 12 years Marie killed herself so they abducted Abigail to do the same.

Jack has wrote The wild fen murder mystery series. I have read most of them including suffer in silence once I started reading this book I could not put it down until i had finished reading it. Jack's book's are crime novel's with humour in them which works very well. Lastly I would like to thank the Author for my ARC copy of this book and I would definitely recommend to other avid readers like me.

Another great book in the series.

I'm loving reading this series of books. Both well written and entertaining in the way the characters are brought to life, develop and grow, both individually and as a team, throughout every part of their investigations. I was totally absorbed in the story and had to continue reading until I could no longer keep my eyes open. So far one of best series of books I've read to date, can't wait to start book 5.

Excellent novel. Plenty of twists and turns, great from start to finish and a few curve balls along the way. Not gory or over the top but enough intrigue to stop you putting the book down. Definitely a great team with enough changes to question who will still be on the team at the end, who will be with who and who will be in charge... Definitely bringing the human side out of the characters but always someone looking to upset the apple cart.

Great!

I think the author is getting to know his characters better. The books are all good but this one is that little bit better. The team has come together very well. And that ending was perfect. My only complaint is that the names of the victims was wrong several times. I’m moving on to the next book now! I highly recommend this book.

Never a dull moment, gripping whodoneit!

I rarely write reviews, but this is the 4th book I have read, in this series, which I find really hard to put down. Well written, very human characters you almost feel you know and very gripping stories. And a real whodunnit into the bargain, as you you never know who did until the end.

This series just goes from strength to strength. Loved the descriptive narrative in this that really made you feel like you were in the middle of winter. What a story!! It went on and on. With the team finding other Crimes and arresting people but still trying to find out what was really going on. It a long time of waiting around in snow and ice to actually find the truth. Read this book to enjoy 5he story as I did.

This is a series to enjoy. The characters are memorable, and the case itself is gripping.

There's a deadline which threatens to reintroduce a character who had previously gone to Lincoln HQ and left everyone in peace. Oh, and there's humour too - more than in the previous Wild Fens stories.

Freya and Ben are investigating a missing woman that was last seen by her father the morning she went out jogging. While searching for this woman, they come across another woman who has been dead for two or three days. Several suspects, several secrets, and many confrontations especially between Freya and Standing - who came back briefly to head-up the investigation.

This is the best one so far, spoiled only by the attempt to spice up the relationship between Freya and Ben - again. I thought we’d gone past that. The whole leg dressing/undressing thing was ridiculous and completely unnecessary. Shame as the story and hunt was a good one.

The more I read of the Wild Fen series the more I am enjoying them, Good story lines, good interaction between the main characters, and plenty of twist that keep you guessing. It seems to me that Freya and Ben are the opposites of Jane Caseys Maeve and Josh, so that can't be a drawback.

Suffer in Silence

This series is becoming one of my favorites. There is suspense, action and great mental gymnastics in figuring out who the bad guy really is. Cartwright is fantastic at bringing it all together.
