It should be illegal for a story this short to be this cute.

If you have KU and 5 spare minutes in need of filling, this 12-page nibblet—about two neighbours connecting over their shared love of audiobooks—is a safe bet.

If you're looking for a warm hug in book form, this is it.
Not an especially long hug, mind, as this is only 9 pages short, but it's lovely.
Thankfully no sex, not even a kiss, this was perfect.

He was always so happy another week at work had come to an end, because it meant Friday, and Friday… Well Friday meant another forty minutes of eavesdropping on his neighbor.

I loved this. What started as Ryan listening to his neighbor’s audiobook through the walls, turns into them listening together. Awww, I have heart eyes.
This was a change of pace from my latest reads, so very cute and enjoyable.

“Do you want to come over for tea again next week? We can start a new one together, instead of you listening through the wall.”

Anyone who loves audiobooks should read this, it's so short and cute, and on KU.

Again, the author pulls me in with an unhappy, gloomy MC. (I do love those.)
Life sucks, it's draining, not much happens. Days blend into each other, exhaustion sets in. There's not really anything to look forward to, because life does indeed suck. I can empathize, Ryan.

Except for Fridays! Fridays are for eavesdropping (is it eavesdropping if you aren't listening to a conversation?), well, for listening to your neighbor take a bath and play their audiobook.

What a simple premise that just works. And there's a HFN, finally, lol!

Highlights:

• So no, Ryan didn’t have a lot to look forward to, but there was one thing he actually did walk around waiting for, and he was always so happy another week at work had come to an end, because it meant Friday, and Friday… Well Friday meant another forty minutes of eavesdropping on his neighbor.

• However, every Friday evening, at the exact same time and for exactly 40 minutes, the man would take a bath. Ryan would hear him tap up the water while humming lowly to himself, and a few minutes after it would stop pouring, he would start an audio book.

• After a few times, it had become his favorite time of the week.

• He couldn’t just change his routines, not when it was the only damn thing Ryan looked forward to in his life.

• “You— You just… started a new damn book!” Ryan snarled. “What about the last one, huh? What happened? Who was waiting in her bedroom?”

It's only around 10 pages, go read it!

This is a reread, but surprisingly I didn't review this one before. Time to fix that!

I love how despite the book being in third person, the writing really feels like we're in the head & the emotions of the main character. I don't know how to explain really, but it feels like hearing him talk? Just in third person character for book convenience, best of both world.

This is a short and comforting story (the mother taking care of his groceries and cat with the MC being visibly depressed and/or burnt out kind of got to me not gonna lie), and I really like how it hooks us in about something as mundane as an audiobooks - the joy is in the little things, really. (Yes I used a — I love it AI can pry it from my cold dead hands)
