I'm the creator of the Kaira Renn fantasy series - a new urban fantasy packed with mystery, action, adventure and, above all, magic.
Set in The Society for the Preservation of Magical Artefacts, it follows the adventures of a young girl who has to learn magic and a lot of other things along the way! The series will contain five books.
I also write short thrillers under the pen name E.G. Ellory.
The end of the trials is nigh as we lose another student leaving only seven left. The tests are getting more and more difficult and some are struggling and the others try to rally round and help them and seem to be bonding. It’s a captivating and exciting read filled with magic and twists and turns galore and it’s a fantastic addition that has me gripping the edge of my seat waiting eagerly for the next book.
There is comparatively little plot to Wayward Wizardry. This series seems to have hit its high point in the second and third books when the young trainees for the S.P.M.A. were learning to work together and offer second chances. Now that their tests are becoming more difficult and dangerous and one of their number has failed and another has suffered a serious injury due to a failure to connect with his parents in the previous book, the fun and wonder seem to have largely vanished from the magical Society.
Instead, what has replaced them is worry.
Of course, this has always been sort of a risky undertaking for the Society as a whole, and for the specially selected students, their teacher(s), and the Society leaders in particular. This time, in addition to Jacob Grayling, their original teacher, and Jocelyn Zucklewick who joined him in the second book, Sofina Blin, a somewhat unfriendly witch, has joined the teaching team.
The students have agreed to work together to be sure that Olin, the boy who nearly failed in the Ghost Quarter in the previous book graduates successfully, even if one of them has to sacrifice themselves to see it done. But though he has recovered physically, will he be able to hold up mentally? And if not, can anybody help him?
As it happens, somebody almost fails in the second of the two big tests they have this time. But the other students band together to make sure that they all finish at once as they are supposed to. And when it looks as if this person will be taken out anyway, several people step in, including Jacob, to argue that the instructions given for this test were misleading and that they should be given a second chance. It is telling that Sofina Blin and Weyen Lyell seem to be impressed with the students’ performance and finally agree. But the second chance involves repeating every test they did poorly at previously. Somebody has a lot of work cut out for them.
Meanwhile, Jacob is seriously considering whether he will continue teaching after this group of students finishes their training. Will he continue to train new groups of Society children? Or will he go off with his girlfriend, Ilina, to live a less stressful life elsewhere in the Society Sphere?
Jacob is now assisted by Jocelyn Zucklewick and Sofina Blin in teaching the young students, his leadership having been usurped by Weyen Lyell after Katie’s failure and Olin’s near death. The Fateful Seven have survived near death and are preparing for “the final push” under the watchful eye of the Society elders. Each of the young magicals has talents to help them succeed but the damage The Ghost Quarter delivered to Olin is serious. His friends are determined for him to succeed even if one of them must be sacrificed.
Thumbs up to R.A. Lindo for another excellent book in this series! These cliffhangers will be the death of me and yet, I can’t stop reading!
In book four, we saw the now group of seven be kids again with one of them losing control and disciplined and the fate was in the teachers hands. Olin had barely survived when his parents' lack of skills. Graduation is getting close and their final test did not allow magic but to trust in the lessons they had learned. I, truly felt like Jacob when all he could do was wait with the others, not knowing who would pass and who would fail. Now, ON TO BOOK FIVE!!
The end is approaching and Jacob worries whether or not he has done enough for his 7 students to graduate. Each student must be respondsible for their actions as Roan found out when he overstep the line but was given a second chance. Can he succeed. Only time will tell. An excellent continuation in the S.P.M.A.
Another great book to the series! The author continues bringing an exciting storyline. It's well written with perfectly painted scenes, moves quickly and smoothly and is a terrific read. It does end in another cliffhanger.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This book is a another credit in writing a well-written story by R. A. Lindo. I love the continuation of the tale and how entertaining it was. I highly recommend this book.
