Some very cute crochet projects in here. They're all pretty simple -- basically what you'd expect of amigurumi. The patterns are mostly animals and some dolls, with a small section of Christmas decoration type toys. It has a very cute guinea pig, which is always worth knowing if you have animal-mad friends...
There is some explanatory material in the back -- basic stuff like how to do a slipknot, how to create a chain, etc. Since there's nothing particularly difficult in the book, I think the patterns are pretty quick and easy for people who're past the beginner stage. The explanations might be a bit thin for total beginners, but helpful to refresh your memory.
As the title claims, these are super-cute, easy to follow patterns. It's suitable for beginners (like me) who understand the most basic crochet techniques and how to work in rounds.
My only critique is that I wish the author included a few more "tips for dummies." Like, this is the top of the horse's head. Of course after turning it around a hundred times, squinting with one eye open, staring at the picture and overanalyzing the camera's angle shot, and eventually just making the damn decision on my own, I eventually figured it out. Or, the easiest, most effective way to attach the pony's tail, which is consists of 30 strands of yarn, into a tight weave is .... My solution? Make a thinner tail. If it didn't make it the first go, it's not that necessary.
UPDATE: I tried my hand at the kitten, which you can see on the cover. I was feeling kinda lazy, so I thought I could just skip the clothes. WARNING: The kitten is NOT cute on its own. I think it has something to do with its arms and feet. They just kinda look weird on their own. I even added a tail, which the author doesn't add to her. Odd, seeing as how it's a cat. Also the fact that it was all white, made it seem a little boring. So in the end, I made the pink dress, and it added the much needed extra cuteness. Also, instead of using felt for the nose (which does look cute), I put a safety nose on instead, and used painted cat eyes (also safety). The nose was just a tad too big in proportion to the head, but what was really rough was my embroidery job. Embroidery in a crochet weave is tough, and it is clearly not my strong suit. I didn't even attempt to embroider the flower on the kitten's head. In light of that, I can see why the author used felt for the nose, as it would have been a lot easier to embroider the mouth detail onto felt.
Some adorable critters to make in here. I'm especially taken with the guinea pig one. In fact, it's what sold me on the book. Not nearly enough guinea pig crafts out there.
