Not You Again

Four blind dates in five days. I can’t believe I agreed to this.

Actually, I can. That’s what I do. I agree to things I don’t want to do to make other people happy. In this case, my four best friends. They’re worried about me and if going on a few dates will make them happy, then I’ll do it. How bad could they be?

I probably shouldn’t have asked that.

I’m starting to seriously wonder if my friends know me at all. Each pick is worse than the last, and none of them compare to my former fiancé. But then I guess maybe that’s the point. Someone new to help me forget the old.

To help me move on.

Except I don’t need a man to prove that I’ve moved on. Why can’t my friends understand that? And why does the same beautiful stranger keep saving me from these awful encounters? The universe seems to be throwing him into my path, and the more time I spend with him the more I wish that he was one of the dates.

There’s one more date left and I can’t help but wonder if he’ll pop up again. How many chance encounters can two people have? Pittsburgh is a big city so the chances are slim.

But what if…?

This sweet rom-com tells the story of a woman stuck in the past, and how meeting a series of Mr. Wrongs, plus one Mr. Right, sets her on a new path. One of healing, forgiveness, and new beginnings.

cute rom com they say
pastel cover they offer

and then you read the book...

felt more like women fiction because

what feels like a cute but still ridiculous concept with all the dates.. it is actually a heavy read...

I enjoyed this author's writing and I will probably read the next book..as we met the group of friends who I am assuming will get their own books..

I've been a big Terri Osburn fan since I found her work years ago(maybe 3? 4?) and I was so happy to see her return from her sabbatical. The wait was so worth it!

This was a mix of a romantic comedy and women's fiction and I've enjoyed every word of it. Becca has wonderful friends who wish to see her happy. Unfortunately for her at the moment that translates to her agreeing to 4 blind dates, each with a guy chosen by one of her friends. From the title and the blurb you can imagine that these dates are disastrous! The only good thing is the good Samaritan that keeps rescuing her and amazingly and also embarrassingly seeing all the mishaps. To make everything even more complicated Becca is going through a tough period at work. Her boss is going through a health scare and Becca is covering all the work.

This is the story of a woman going through the motions and finally learning that it's ok not to be ok, to quote the author. I'm not saying that everything is magically made better at the end, but I can see that Becca is working through her problems, and not only that, she's also dating the guy who keeps saving her which was wonderful.

I can't wait to see how the friends's stories will go, since all 4 of them are also single and I really liked all of them. I'm also curious to see if Ms Osburn will keep updating us of Becca and Jacob's relationship. To sum it up: I loved the story, I cried my eyes out and I can't wait for more!

This story was such a lovely surprise!

In ‘Not you again’ we meet Becca, an almost thirty year old event planner who is single. Becca is content with how her life is going, she has a job that she loves and she has her cat Milo to keep her company. But her four best friends, Josie, Donna, Megan and Lindsey have been pressuring her to date again. In the end Becca lets them convince her to go on 4 blind dates with 4 guys that her friends will choose for her. Each date has his own ‘problems’ and funny circumstances. Luckily for Becca, every time that the date goes wrong, she’s rescued by a handsome stranger, named Jacob. And the more Becca talks to Jacob, the more she’s intrigued by him and wishes that her friends had chosen him for a blind date. But nothing is like it seems and soon emotions from the past are getting in the way. In the end Becca will have to choose, will she choose the past or go for a new future?

I don’t want to tell too much about the story. It’s story that you need to discover for yourself.

I can tell you that after reading the ‘blurb’ I expected a light, sweet and funny story and that’s exactly how the story started. Becca’s blind dates adventures had me smiling and laughing. But under the surface I could also feel that there was more to this story than just a funny story and this was confirmed when I got closer to the end. There was a good reason why Becca wasn't dating, the more we learned about it, the more emotional and serious the story became. I hadn’t expected that at all but it was what Becca and this story needed to find a HEA. I really loved how the writer wrote this story. The story is told from Becca’s POV. She’s a wonderful character, just like Jacob. He was a good mix between protective, gentle, friendly but also manly and strong. The banter between both was amusing. One of the other things that I loved in this story is that both Becca and Jacob have experience painful things in their past so both are careful with their feelings and that made the story more ‘real’ and convincing to me. The secondary characters were great too. Becca’s parents and her 4 best friends. They were supportive, loving and there for each other. I’m already curious and looking forward to their stories. There is one other thing that I want to mention, this is a romance story without any sex scenes in it. It wasn’t an issue for me, I personally think that this story didn't need it. I found it perfect just like it was.

Enjoyed this book. Very light, like null on the sexy time, but it was ok. This book didn't need it. The story within the romance was perfect. This story made me smile.

Honestly, this book was OKAY. Interesting characters, a little predictable, didn't see the book talking about grief so eloquently though. Was cute. Nice short read.

“I’d had big plans once. Places I wanted to see. Things I wanted to do. And then the plan got blown to bits and I learned real quick that planning is pointless when in a split second your whole life can change.”

This was such a cute romcom book!! it tells the story of a woman stuck in the past, and how meeting a many Mr. Wrongs, but one Mr. Right, sets her on a new path. A new path of healing, forgiveness, and new beginnings. I listened to this as an audiobook and it was a good length for the first book! It has a good blend of romance, romantic comedy, and women's fiction. Multiple parts made me laugh, sob and sigh in happiness. Such a cute book!!

Not You Again is the first installment in the NOT series.

For some odd reason, I didn't even remember adding this to my wonderful TBR last year. It's a good thing that I randomly came across it because it ended up working out for some challenges that I was in. It also didn't hurt that this was a really freaking cute book either.

In this, you will meet Jacob and Becca. From the very first time we are introduced to them, I had a feeling that they were going to be adorable. Mostly because I really wanted Becca to get a happily ever after due to having such a shitty past. Her friends did try to set her up with some guys, but it didn't really seem like they had her best interest or something like that. Okay, they were all pretty shitty and that's that.

Then Jacob came into her life, and it felt like the angels were sighing in relief. Heck, I know I was. Other than that, it took an emotional toll on me (sort of). Definitely wasn't expecting it but then again it was hard to see her grieving over an unfortunate death. Still, in the end, this was a pretty good book and I look forward to diving into the next one.

4.5 stars really.

This started out really funny from the first blind date. And then that person who started showing up, and who was the “Not You Again” that the title refers to, well he was a beautiful stranger, and it was hard not to fall in love with him. Although there was a moment or two when he said or did some things to Becca, no matter how completely understandable it was of him to say or do those things, it made my opinion of him drop just a smidge.

Part of it though is that we didn’t know quite what had happened with Becca’s fiance Brian that we’d only heard bits and pieces about for most of the book, and so it was easy to wonder just what was keeping her out of the dating scene. What could Brian have done to make her that way? When I found out though, it was very understandable. And I liked the way what happened with Brian was kind of woven into Becca’s relationship with her boss. I also really liked Becca’s friends, and it was interesting to see why they chose the blind dates they did for her. It actually made me think that was probably how some people used to choose my blind dates, and why I quit letting people do that really quickly.

In the end it all tied up perfectly, and I am glad to have read this. I think this might be part of a stand-alone series, and I am hoping we get to find out how her friends will deal with their own singledom status. I also kind of want to know more about the guy Becca worked with that her boss would not let get more face-time with the customers. I feel there must be more of a story there, and I’d like to hear it.

This was my first book my Terri Osburn. I really liked it and would definitely add her to my list of authors to read more of!!

Comedy and tragedy wrapped up in fate make this a highly enjoyable book. I felt all of Becca's frustration at being unable to say no, having learned that lesson very late in my own life. Even at the peak of her anger at the horrible dates set up by her friends, Becca still tries to help and ends up the worse for wear. If it were not for her handsome rescuer, she would have had an even more difficult time of it. Although he challenges her, Becca knows that the man who keeps extracting her from her dates from hell, has a point and that it is time to break the old patterns of her life. I enjoyed this well-written and insightful book, a copy of which I received as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a super sweet, light story with cute and amusing banter. Becca’s best friends have convinced her to go on four blind dates but only problem is each is so bad that it is comical and each date a handsome stranger, Jacob, shows up who she finds herself getting close to effortlessly. Super cute story

SPOILERS GO!

The author does not strike a great balance in the tone of the book. What starts off as a series of ridiculous blind dates goes catastrophically sideways when the author brings out the big reveal about why the fmc is hesitant to start dating again. Her fiancé was murdered in a mass shooting the day before their wedding 2 years earlier. Why her friends and family are obsessed with her starting dating instead of, say, starting therapy is bizarre.

Plus, there is the fmc’s career. She is an event planner who handles weddings. If she was so traumatized by her fiancé’s murder the day before her own wedding that she cannot go on a simple blind date, how is she able to plan people’s weddings as a job?

Shortly before the big reveal the author trots out the concept that women owe men dates. There is no such thing as dating casually and a woman has to be ready to commit to any man who asks her out or she is guilty of stringing him along.

Not You Again is hard for me to categorize. It's a sweet blend of romance, romantic comedy, and women's fiction with a satisfying HEA. It had me laughing out loud in parts, sobbing through multiple tissues in others, and sighing happily at the end. It's a story that touched me deeply. I've read everything Osburn has published and, for me, this ranks as one of her best.

Becca agrees to go on blind dates set up by her four friends. She doesn't really want to go, but can't say no. Her boss leaves her in charge of her business, with no help. She can't say no. She's struggling to move on from an old relationship, which you find out about as time goes on. This is really a story about finding self-awareness and finding a way to move on, as well as finding new love. There's humor in the outrageous dates and acceptance by her friends and family. There's a very satisfying conclusion to this emotional story.

Not You Again ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Author: Terri Osburn
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Becca Witherspoon cannot say no, which is how she finds herself set up on four different blind dates in five days. Her best friends are convinced that this is the only way to help Becca move on. But none of these dates are going as she expected. Her first date from hell got drunk on martinis and whined about his ex. The silver lining? The car service driver named Jacob who came to her rescue. Somehow, dates number two and three are even worse! And then, oddly enough, Jacob is coincidentally present for those as well.
With the increasing pressure at work and the fact that she’s perfectly content being alone, Becca never had any intention of taking these dates seriously. The only person aware of that is Jacob, who unknowingly happens to be blind date four. The universe has to be playing a cruel joke on her!

This book was the first I’ve read by this author and the first in it’s series. It was a cute, quick read with an emotionally charged back story. I didn’t even realize how fast I flew through it. I look forward to seeing more from T. Osburn!

I liked Becca as this one started out, but I couldn't seem to understand why she was going on these dates other than to appease her friends. She really didn't seem to want to be there and it didn't help that they all were such a disaster. It was only when she explained her past that it all came together and I was glad that during all the horrible dates there was one person there to help her. From there on I really hoped Becca didn't pull back, but wasn't surprised when she did. I was so happy for her and her last date that things worked out in the end. I think it helped that they were honest with each other and talked about so much, got the bad things out early so that they could spend time enjoying each others company.

I anticipated this to be a fun, sweet and easy read - mostly it was!
I enjoyed the theme of being set up on a bunch of crazy blind dates with your friends and could see myself and my friends in the characters.
I also immediately found myself rooting for Jacob, which is something you want in a sweet read! I found myself slightly annoyed at Becca, but once I hit the 70% mark I totally sympathised with her.

Overall, this book surprised me and I even cried a little which is always a tick in my book!

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. 🥰🥰

Terri Osburn is a new to me author and her cute romcom had me laughing at the reality of terrible blind dates.

Becca is a “yes woman.” It’s hard for her to say no, hence why she’s going on 4 blind dates. Each date is more terrible than the last, except for the fact the same guy happens to come to her rescue every time. You would think fate is trying to tell her something, but is Becca to stuck in the past to give her future a chance?

I loved the way everything tied together in the end. I wish there was more of an epilogue, but I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend.

This is a sweet book about grief, guilt and recovering from traumatic event. The blind date angle was nice, but most of the dates were just one-dimentional stereotypes. The comparison between them and Jacob could have been more subtle. Becca's feelings were very well presented. I could totally identify with her. A nice read.

This is the first audio book that I have listened to, and i loved it. ♡

It was instantly gripping, following the story of a lady with a troubled past finding love with the most unlikely and unexpected person. It was definitely a feel good, with its ups and downs during the rocky road of dating, but everybody has to kiss a few frogs before they find the one and this was definitely that.

Terri Osburn does it again with book 1 of 2 in the (NOT series) "You Again." Not your typical romance where the couple automatically falls for each other, but you do have a hero that saves the heroine from some really bad blind dates. It is a fun, quick read.

Pastel, bright, colored covers can be so misleading. I picked this up expecting a quick, cutesy, easy read and while it was cute, there was so much more story and emotion in it. What started off as a story based on insane, awful, blind dates and being saved by the proverbial knight in shining armor, turned into a story of letting go and healing. The twist regarding Becca's fiancé was sad and I did feel for her, but, this wasn't the story I was looking for so I just thought it was okay. The cover and title both really read "romance" to me and this was more like fiction with a hint of romance. I would have loved to get to know Jacob a lot more than just some tiny chance encounters and a quick, basic, 20 questions near the end. I didn't really understand the point of the boss's sickness and backstory besides giving Becca someone to relate her tragedy to.

Terri Osburn has given her readers another incredible romantic comedy! I absolutely LOVED Not You Again the first book her The NOT series. It was an incredible story and I loved reading every moment on every page and could not put it down. She provided her readers with the amazing characters, that I loved, who feel like close friends! Terri Osburn continues to show with Not You Again that she is a wonderful storyteller. One of my favorite things that I love about Not You Again is how Terri Osburn incorporates the title of the book into the love story, with all the chance encounters. Who doesn't love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families and friends, who always support one another, they are all such wonderful characters? Her characters in Not You Again are so believable and charming, they share great chemistry, and lots of laughs. Not You Again delivers all those things that I love most about romantic comedies. I love that Terri Osburn writes from the first-person point of view of the main female character. I enjoy getting to see things from her viewpoints. Not You Again is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Not You Again is filled with all those things that I have come to love in a romantic comedy love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Not You Again is a second chance at finding love story, and is the story of Meredith Rebecca “Becca” Witherspoon, event planner. Becca’s best friends Josie, Megan, Donna, and Lindsey, all set her up with four blind dates over five days. Her friends want to help her move on from her last relationship with her former fiancé Brian. Becca is only going through the actions of going on these dates to please her friends. She believes that she found her one true love in Brian and is not sure she will find it again. After the first four dates were unsuccessful, Becca is not sure she is willing to go on the date with Lindsey’s match, she remembers that Lindsey initially set her up with Brian. After talking to her father, she decides that she needs to change her attitude, because all she is really doing is wasting the time of the men that she was set up with. When Lindsey informs Becca of her date’s name, she thinks that she may know him. On their date Becca reveals the heartbreaking details of what happened to Brian. After having a wonderful date, Becca is not sure she sees a future with the divorced school teacher and single father. I love the heart-to-heart conversations that Becca had with both Brian’s mother and her boss; Amanda that helps her decide that maybe it was worth taking another chance at love. I love Becca’s love story, and how Becca shows her vulnerable side. I love the amazing chemistry among all the characters. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Not You Again, the characters feel like family and friends. I loved the friendship between Josie, Megan, Donna, Lindsey, and Becca, they proved to Becca that she could always count on them. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? As a Pittsburgher, my favorite part are all the references to Pittsburgh in the story. Not You Again is filled with all those things that I love in a romantic comedy, incredible characters, amazing story, light, poignant and bittersweet moments, and plot twists. Terri Osburn did not disappoint in her delivery of those things. I love how she resolved the plot twist; it was truly a heartwarming moment. My favorite part of the book was the epilogue, I truly love how it went above and beyond the happily ever after. I am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series. It was an amazing story and I highly recommend it.

I was looking for a short, sweet, and easy read after finishing a longer series and that’s what I got… for the most part.

Becca, an overworked event planner and pathological people-pleaser, agrees to go on a series of four blind dates set up by her best friends in an attempt to help her move on two years after the end of her engagement. Becca has no intention of actually getting involved in a relationship but is tired of her friends worrying and nagging. The first three dates end in disaster with the first date getting drunk, the second getting into a fight, and the third being just a jerk, but somehow the same stranger saves her from each awful situation. Jacob is her Uber driver on the first night, the bouncer on the second, and is with friends at the bar on the third. She soon realizes that she feels a spark with Jacob. Becca goes on the fourth and final date and finds out it’s Jacob. She explains her story and soon realizes she isn’t ready for the relationship yet and must overcome her past in order to move on. After taking some time to work through things Becca tries again with Jacob and gives herself a second chance at love.

Based on the title and beginning of the book, there was some comfortable predictability and I fully expected a fun, light read, the story of her fiance was a curveball I was not expecting. While this made the story a bit heavier, it was still your average rom-com.

I had mixed feelings about her friends. I appreciate that they can give her some tough love, but found it annoying that they were pressuring her into dating when she clearly isn’t interested and they weren’t dating either! Becca’s boss, Amanda, had an unexpected role in helping her to move forward and I loved how they were able to move into a new stage of their relationship as well.

Overall it was a good book. I loved Becca and Jacob’s story and how we followed Becca’s journey after loss. While I didn’t love how her friends approached getting her back on the dating scene, I feel like they had her best interest and mind and had good intentions. It was a cute book with a hint of sadness, and was had the happy ending I had hoped for.
