Michael Chatfield is a Canadian Army veteran and international bestselling author who writes the kind of books he always wanted to read—character-driven, gritty, tactical, and grounded in reality.

He doesn’t write one-dimensional killers wrapped in plot armor, charging toward an objective without thought. His stories are built for readers who want earned progression, tight, understandable logic, and realistic strategy. Every stat system has structure. Every decision is deliberate (except when there is Jaeger involved).

And the pacing? It's locked at two hundred percent. From alleyway brawls to starship armadas clashing over galactic sovereignty, from tactical dungeon assaults to city-states warring over a continent’s fate—Chatfield commits to every battle like it’s his last.

With millions of books and audiobooks sold, and tens of thousands of reviews his work spans LitRPG, military sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic survival. He writes for readers who value systems that make sense, loyalty that lasts, and power that’s earned, not handed out.

Whether you're listening on a long drive, grinding through a shift, or up past midnight planning the next in-game raid—this is where you’ll find sagas to binge. Where strength is earned, logic rules, and camaraderie is forged in fire.

It really seems the author lost his motivation to finish off the story, i mean from the 8th realm on the books all off the sudden were a quarter of the page count, tons of stuff was rushed, characters killed off screen so to say.

It all just felt super rushed and the first books were so strong in both story and character development and toward the end it was just meh.

No closure on any of the real characters imo.

This feels abrupt.

It comes off as a quick wrap up to a series that has gotten too long and the author doesn't know how to close it up. It is very quick, sudden and convenient. A character I have known since book one, have seen grow and change. And she is killed off screen as a sidenote. I expected more.

"No one has been able to Ascend for thousands of years. We have like 2 chapters to Ascend and fight the bad guy, good thing we're amazing!"

It truly feels like the author just decide to end things. I felt no drama or much humor or caring. Which is disappointing after such a long series.

I didn't feel like any of the fighting or anything mattered for much if any of the book. There were no real stakes, and it feels like the author felt the same way as they were writing.

Recommend reading it to finish a good series, but it should have been much better.

I should have known after reading Emerilia, Michael Chatfield is great during the world-building/introduction of a story, and absolutely horrible at concluding a story. Honestly, this book reads as rushed and completely unfinished.

While I feel somewhat cheated out of the story this could have been, I will add a star here since you did actually finish the story itself.

Much like others I thought Chatfield rushed this book as though he just stopped caring about the Ten Realms series. Granted there are 12 books in the series, but the last book felt similarly as rushed as this one which is a tad disappointing considering how much time and effort was put in the previous books.

The ascension was quick, but Erik and Rugrat are already powerful so it wasn't too surprising to see them excelling in the Tenth Realm the way they did, I just wish it happened sooner and more was written about the AFTER. After Akran was killed, after they helped the other realms remove the Shattered and the Devourers. Get the idiots who've spoken against them to eat their words et cetera.

Oh well... I'm happy there's an ending at all, but I had high expectations and this didn't hit.

Rushed and it feels like he stopped caring

The ending isn’t awful, it just isn’t very good. The book wraps up a few threads, leaves many others open or forgotten, and barrels through it all with a new antagonist who would have been better served as a secondary schemer that no one would have cared about.

We went from “it’s the end of the ten realms as we know it!” in the previous book to “well, things are bad.. but politics and a new guy is in charge of the Imperium who makes zero sense to put in charge during what could be an extinction level event”.

Emirilia wasn’t as rushed as this one, but the final books are about equal in how the conclusions come together. It could have been more, but it wasn’t bad to read.

*spoilers*

The final power up they main characters get is a cool idea, but we know very little about it and it’s basically a hand wave towards pseudo godhood or demigod status with the ability to manage the realms. Really, no one has done that since the first group did it? It seemed kind of easy for this group to do it.

Skip this book and make up your own ending. Rugrat talking about a rifle he wants, "Yeah, but it's semi, that's full auto." Like this book, the scene is half finished and doesn't make sense.

ending with many explosions

So, it’s finally over. Everything gets brought around full circle.

Most of this ends up being quite chaotic, because most of it is active combat. I’m pretty sure at one point someone was in a room and then made a grand entrance into that same room.

If you’d like the previous books this is definitely a worthy ending.

Good, if a bit rushed, conclusion to a great series

This certainly resolved differently than I was expecting. I thought that the pacing was a bit rushed throughout. Erik and Rugrat are excellent at not giving themselves downtime, and their rise from Level 1 to where they started this book was meteoric. But then, in this book, it’s like they tripled that pace and gained both power and cultivation insight a bit too serendipitously. Honestly, it felt like Mr. Chatfield was done with this series and wanted to just get everything tied up.

Having said that, the Ten Realms is probably one of my favorite LitRPG series and I love these characters and their journey of discovery. Alva gets to shine in comparison to the Imperium’s military, and yet, true to Alvan ideals, they continue to seek to cooperate and strengthen those who will work with them.

I liked how the ascension tower mirrored the Ten Realms, and led those who attempt it to a deeper understanding of the journey they had made. If another planet is brought into the Realms, would that add another level to the tower?

Disappointing end to a great series

While still worth a read to close out the series, don't expect anything like the previous books. This one feels like the author just wanted to be done and rushed through the plot at break neck speed, wrapping up plot lines and character arcs in a cursory manner. Some of the payoff is worth it, but the majority of the story is a massive letdown to those of us who've been following this one for years.

The battle for Ascendency has already begun, hope the guys aren’t too late

A Devourer means to ascend to gain control of the ten realms, a secret lies buried deep within the creation of the ten realms that could cause untold havoc if the people of the ten realms can’t stop his ascension.
Alva continues to battle to protect the realms and its people while the Imperium head works the angles for future political gain. Sacrificing people and cities to set the stage for his grand entrance and saving if everyone. Only it’s a bad plan, go there and kill everything. That’s not a plan that’s an objective… as his arrogance and poor leadership isolate him from those with the experience and skills to guide him and the Imperium to victory; he sees blames the Alvans for his failures while they concentrate on protecting the people of the realms.
His duplicitous nature could have let the realms be conquered by the Shattered and Devourers, but Alvans are made of stronger stuff and words mean little when actions show so much.

Anticlimactic end to an entertaining series.

So, if you made it this far you have to read this book. That said, earlier books spent more time explaining the nuances of increasing your crafting skills than this book spent fighting the main villain of the whole 12 books. Also, and this is certainly nit-picking but the last 2 books had so many typos it could have been the greatest drinking game ever. The second paragraph of the authors note asks you to review the seventh realm. Just takes you out of the story when a number starts a sentence. Great series, felt like the last 2 books were mailed in for credit.

That's it. The end of the series. I was a little disappointed in the first half of the book because it was all large scale battles which is my least favorite part of these books. The second half as much better and was more focused on Rugrat and Eric. Overall this was a good ending to the series.

This is the end of the series and I can't help feeling that books 11 & 12 could have been combined. At 266 pages book 12 cost the same as the 865-page book 8.

As with most of Chatfields' books, the beginning takes the reader straight into the action with no setup or review – although this time it was a little less confusing. Then the story's middle is mostly politics, leveraging a narcissistic head of the Ten Realms' supposed defense force. Little if any of this was foreshadowed and thus came out of nowhere.

The climactic ending features a tower run, which was rushed, and a battle with the faceless leader of the enemy... about whom we learned almost nothing. There was a warm-hearted and satisfying final chapter, along with some hints about the potential options of our beloved crew.

In summary, this finale was mildly disappointing. It felt rushed and paper thin. Most of the major plot points should have been set up in the previous books. In a series this large, dropping enemies into the story only to have them defeated soon after, smacks of laziness or a lack of planning. The impression I am left with is that the author was done with the series and just wanted it to be over.

Disappointed, when you follow a series from start to end you always have a certain expectation for the final chapter in the series. For me it was BAD especially when you feel so apart of the characters that are coming off the pages at you, you build a sort of family relationship with each knowing all there strengths and weaknesses it hard to get to the end and find they on a slab Dead killed off. Way to wreck a series. It's seem to be a thing with Mr Chatfield to kill off a good establish character.

I'd looked forward to rereading this series like I have Emerilia Not anymore. Will probably trash the books I have so it won't remind me of Book #12. It's hard to recommend a series that had me right up to the end, it had a bit of hiccup around book seven but I thought its okay I can handle that but the Tenth was the final nail in the coffin for Mr Chatfield books, he can join RR Martin books in the trash bin as well.

Sometimes less is just less I guess…

This was a rather disappointing ending for the series, the Author came back to 50% debriefing and 50% story, which kindda is wired when you realize this was the shortest book in the series. We had a predictable and underwhelming final battle and trials and it just feels that the author just wanted to end the series and move on.

I guess I'm glad that it's over considering 10% into the book, I knew this is the last one I can stand and will abandon the series whatever comes next.

So goodbye and thanks for the fishes I guess, this was quite a ride.

3/5 well it's the last one, you might as well read it and find out how it ends.

at least is over...

This book had so much potential alas it was wasted in a rushed stream of events that finished up with a very unsatisfying ending.

The books' quality went downhill after the fall of Vuzgal but I had kept my hopes up they will regain their former glory. It did not happen.

I loved this series. I really, really did. But in a typical Chattfield fashion, he Game of Throned this book. This series was Benjamin Buttoned to 266 pages, compared to 566 pages for book 1. Talk about a rush job.

The ending seemed really rushed and chaotic. There was so many books before this with detail and then a really rushed wrap up. Also more than one grammatical mistake and the odd spelling mistake.

Short Review: ok story, ‘Meh’ series ending.

Detailed Review:
+ Big loud finish.
+ Wrapped up the story.
+ Main character development to their ‘goal’.

• Rush against the clock – the rush to beat the bad guy felt abit contrived but is what it is.

- Very short,
Just reading the book itself it felt rather rushed.
Comparatively this is the second shortest book in the series (This is only because the 7th realm got split into 2 and part 1 was also very short).
Overall the series has been getting shorter and shorter but after the 7th realm it kinda fell off a cliff.
I don’t know if this was a motivational thing, Maybe Michael Chatfield had had enough but didn’t want to just abandon a series like so many other authors and pushed through. Which if true, it is to be commended. Just a shame.

- Cardboard cut-out villains - We get 2 new villains (One political and one combat) out of nowhere, who have very shallow characters and neither really shows themselves to be particularly threatening to the main characters.

- There is a romance plot (barely), It kinda pops in never gets any depth and then the storys over. It felt like a checkbox exercise and I think could have been done without.

Overall for the series: Great series, I would recommend this to others, I would have to warn them about the ending through.

So long Ten Realms, It was a wild ride while it lasted. Onto other things now.

Epic "Star Wars" LitRPG Story Arc for Sale

Impressive effort in creating complete world. But the wordcrafting falls far short of allowing it to be called a masterwork.

Maybe the series was written with ambition to sell movie or TV series rights. If the author realized that he was wasn't going to be controlling the script.... Yeah I would not put more than minimum effort into details either knowing that in general books are usually unrecognizable in film except General plotline and key name. An attempt to imitate Star Wars success as easy to watch fare would also account for heavy use of familiar cliches and military tropes even after previously stating that magic made equipment obsolete above realm four. Use of modern military derived gear by main characters/Alva military will greatly decrease wardrobe costs. Chaotic mass attack magic is also a big money saver for scenes with extensive special effects -- nothing cheaper than fireworks effects that obscure lots of scene details by design. Good luck to the author seling rights of that was his intent. Good luck to us in the buyer producing at least watchable B-grade show.

I enjoyed 99.999% of this book.

A FANTASTIC FINALE FOR A SERIES THAT HAS BEEN, ON THE VAST MAJORITY, VERY VERY GOOD. I also just realized caps lock was on. I am not going to go and retype that.

The only teeny teeny teeny part of this whole book that I didn't really care for, was the very very end, one small little detail was thrown in, and a very throwaway manner, clearly just to add some form of melancholy to what was in otherwise relatively positive outcome to a situation. It felt unnecessary, and added for no reason. That doesn't mean that I think it was unrealistic. To be clear I do think it was realistic. The problem is, nothing about this story is realistic. So I don't feel a need for realism to ever really play a part. So other than that one small melancholy adding detail that just seemed extraneous for no real reason other than everything was too happy and the author wanted to add a little sadness, it was a fantastic book and series. And I've been reading it since the first draft, when Eric came to the 10 realms alone

amazing series full of plot twists , drama and chuckles

I don’t normally do reviews, if I like the book I read it and give it an appropriate amount of stars. if I don’t I’ll uninstall it, if I really like the book I’ll do a review at the end of the series.
This series I started reading the two week curse on the 30th of march 2023 as I sit here today I’ve read the entire 12 books in less than 16 days. I think that speaks more volumes than words can express for how good the series are, yes there are slow bits, some errors, it’s a series by an independent author, don’t expect perfection but for the most part it’s a fast paced roller coaster of emotions. You love the characters, you’ll hate some, you’ll laugh at others and you’ll cry when they die and leave you.

The series ended on the high note it started at while leaving the possibility of more, we’re hooked and ready more.
Have a nice day, I’m going to smash through the other series now

Awesome

This isn’t my normal genre BUT I am pleased I jumped into this series. It’s one of the BEST things I have read.
You will love the characters, hate the losses, get lost in the battles, and excited with the plot twists and outcomes. I hope all LitRPG fantasy is like this or I’ll be very disappointed.
Two military buddies end up in another realm (planet) and use their military training and skills to advance through stages of development, they take to it like ducks to water. Along the way the stick up for the underdogs, put those who wield power unjustly in their place, make epic mistakes that they atone for. It’s a journey of growth and discovery, littered with battle and humor. And not ONCE does the writer say “clip” instead of magazine. He actually knows weapons which is a plus- two many writers of other genres don’t and it highly annoying.
So go ahead and take a chance on Eric and Rugrat, you will just love this series.

I really struggled with how to rate this book. I have enjoyed this series, and this book tied together all the loose ends. It also fleshed out the realm rules in a way that made consistent sense. If this had been a stand alone book, I would have rated it higher as it has it all.

The problem is this is not a stand alone book, it is the finale of a series. And nothing in it was new. The monster fights are retreads. Majestic spells thrown at one another. The political infighting is a retread. The top guy of the opposing organization cares more about self aggrandizement than the well-being of the realms. The ascension platform is a retread. It is basically a repeat of the floor clearings in the original Alvan dungeon. And yes, Erik and Rugrat fulfilled their personal goals- just like they've been doing for the past eleven books.

All of these are wonderful story elements by themselves. But none of it was new.

Despite being a good book on its own, it was a disappointing finish to the series.

It was very rushed and felt almost like a standalone book with very limited carry forward from all previous books. various characters just pop up for a scene or two before drifting off without any impact. The whirlwind romance lacked emotional depth and was flat. We never even got to see the main antagonist before the final fight and the whole concept of people giving and receiving cultivations of others felt very deus ex machina.

Either the series got way out of hands for the author or he simply stopped caring. It was a closure, that all to say about this. The series lost it's way after Book 4 and this is as best as it could possibly be salvaged. I'm glad the series is finally put out of its misery.

Series Review:
Books 1-4: 8/10
Book after that: 4/10

Abrupt, a stick figure drawing of a horse head on an awesome and badass horse body.

Awesome series of 11 books that I could not put down once I started reading it. Great character development, connections made, personalities, hurt, love, strength; all of it came to an abrupt halt in the final book.

The last book felt like it was rushed, as if the author didn’t care any longer. I give him credit for finishing the series, but I’m also giving it lower as it did not feel at all like the previous stories. I had to re-read paragraphs to make sure I actually knew who was talking, what was happening, and how it’s happening.

Could have easily added another 300 pages to this book. Initially thought the time it would take me to finish this book was a joke, but it wasn’t.

Glad he finished it, but incredibly disappointed in the ending.

Read them all in order, or confusion will tesult

Action packed LitRPG series with superior build up from small missions yo epic battles. Hours of fun reading.
I had to laugh wth dark humor when one of the combat medics in a second half book screamed " I hate the femoral artery! " As a Red Cross instructor, no can only say So true.
Not necessarily recommended for tweens or younger because the body count among the goof guys can be pretty high , but then some of Pierces Tortall series is also. At least the scale of this book is pretty goof. Many sword and sorcery books have so called epic last battles that only have a few hundred involved. Even bad King John of Robin Hood fame had a reserve force of more than 50,000 at his lowest ebb.
Highly recommend Five silver stars.

Not that bad

"I live for reviews! If you’ve enjoyed The Seventh Realm, please leave a review!" I thought that it's Tenth Realm book. Maybe I'm mistaken.
Book it's short, less like any of the series.
I didn't find many mistakes, but I wanna something Moore.
I don't know, that end of the story? Will be more?
Copy paste Autor note can mess things. I know that autor wanna money, I really know.
Sorry I just know to many series ruined by greedy autors.
Overalls series it's not bad, I think it's a little to lofty. We have two marines and to much lofty ideals who make a day.
Brotherhood don't fix problems, faith it's not answer for everything. But maybe that point of view of marine?
