She should have known better. Everyone knew that if things seemed too good to be true, they often were. And the night of the Silver Rose Ball had definitely been too good to be true. Averie had laughed without care, danced as if there was no tomorrow, and let the happiness of those around her lower her guard. But in her world, happiness and peace were just beautifully constructed illusions. Because when darkness sets its sight on you, genuine happiness isn't an option. As she stood, smiling out over the crowd, fear had swallowed the faces of the ones standing below as sickly sweet words sounded. Pandemonium is unleashed upon the unsuspecting partygoers, painting it red. As Averie and the others struggle to save the ones they can, a single moment brings them to their knees. How quickly Averie had allowed herself to forget that nightmares often begin as the most pleasant of dreams.
C.R. Rice enjoys spending her days with her family in sunny Florida, where the sun is always shining and the alligators are only slightly terrifying. After receiving a loving shove from her husband, she decided to take a step into the wonderful world of authordom with her first series in the Realm. When she is not writing she is reading, going on adventures with her rather daring four year old son and husband, or lazing about in the pool.
CR Rice is a phenomenal writer, masterfully weaving together characters and worlds through vivid descriptions that truly bring the stories to life. The way she intertwines the series' overarching concepts with the characters’ diverse personalities, triumphs, and struggles is a standout feature of her work. I wholeheartedly recommend Rice to everyone looking for an immersive reading experience.
This was a strong fourth book in the Realm series, it had that element that I enjoyed from this series. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and how everything worked with the world from the other three books. I thought everything worked well overall and left me wanting to read more.

Follow Averie on her journey of desperation. When things seem good, you know the opposite is right there too. Can she survive and be who they expect her to be?.

This is by far the most emotional book I have ever read. Not just from the highs and traumatic things the characters endure but as a reader...I feel well I don't know what I feel. It was a powerful book. Highly recommend.
