First Murder is the prequel to the new, explosive James Brickman Series of police thriller/procedural series. It’s not only a great standalone mystery in its own right, but with it, Dennis Shock lays the foundation for all the books to follow. We meet and get to know all the main characters that we will meet again and again as the series progresses. It’s Detective James Brickman, AKA “Brick,” first day on the job as a San Diego Detective and he lands a major murder case. Brick had been a police officer in Denver, Colorado, before moving to San Diego, and he was anxious to prove himself to his new partner, Allan Brooks. Shock throws Brick, Brookes, and us a number of Red Herrings. The foreshadowing is great and expertly done. If you are a careful and observant reader, you may discover who the actual murderer is at the same time they do. I did only because…. Read this amazing tale to find out what that was.

I enjoyed the narration of Jeff Moon, who brings out the action, pace and great plot

Detective James Brickman, first day on the job as a San Diego Detective, is handed a major murder case. Brick ( James Brickman) once had been a police officer in Denver, before moving to San Diego. He finds himself anxious to prove himself to his new partner, Allan Brooks.
This prequel does not disappoint, full of action. We see James settles in with his new partner Allan who gives him plenty of room to use his skills.

This is a well written and narrated book which puts 'flesh' onto an enjoyable series. The series can be read/listened to without this and I have listened to it after listening to the series but it didnt matter at all doing it out of order. The narration is just perfect.

I was given a free copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.

Quick, Imaginative, Good

I love a story that is quick, imaginative, and good. This intro novella was all of those things. The characters and the mystery held my interest through every page.

This is the first book in the series. James Brickman becomes a detective and this is his first murder mystery. This was an enjoyable audiobook narrated by Jeff Moon.
