Ah magic!!! It's in the air you know!? Magic!! Just the thought of it brings to question -is it? Will it? Can it be? Do I? Can I? For real? Cute short story. Main characters Amity and Duncan...writer makes them real with flaws. Take Amity, shy with no outward confidence believes she can not be a good mage bc her spells to awry. Then there's Duncan!! What a .......at least he's not a complete butthead. He does wake up to " smell the coffee " so to speak. And he does become a bit smarter.. Again, cute story. With a happily ever after -and the answer to questions-why that's a yes to all!! Just know this is an "Instalove" sorta story! Now, get comfy-settle in and enjoy this wonderland, this will work! short...(writer makes you feel the story and setting!)---Enjoy! --P/
This was a cute short story. If you are not one for instalove this probably isn’t for you. A small kingdom is in a horrible drought. Amity is being called upon to give a blessing over the earth in the kingdom. Only she doesn’t want to because she has sworn off magic. That is till Duncan accidentally shoots her in the arm with an arrow.
Duncan doesn’t believe in magic and thinks the blessing is a sham. He wants to ban all magic in his kingdom and banish the mage that is to do the blessing.
For a short story I did like it. The ending wasn’t all that great but still cute. At first I wasn’t invested in the story but once I sat myself down I got through all 62 pages with ease.
Sweet short fantasy romance about a mage who doesn't trust her gifts - she thinks she always screws something up and doesn't want to use magic anymore. She's pressured into performing a blessing on the land after the new king's coronation - the kingdom of Emerest is suffering from drought and it's subjects are emmigrating to other kingdoms. If that's not enough, she falls in love with a mysterious stranger after he accidentally shoots her in the arm with an arrow. On top of all that, she discovers the new king hates magic and wants to banish her from the kingdom once the coronation is over.
I love that this story is about a woman who has gifts and abilities but lacks confidence; who thinks she's a screw-up and is too scared to try to use her gifts. She must learn to trust herself and trust her gifts.
The romance is sweet, and the insta-love is actually believable. The believe-in-yourself story is also encouraging and uplifting. I don't normally enjoy mage stories, but I enjoyed this one and I want to read more from Shereen Vedam!
Amity is a powerful mage who doesn't believe in herself, her spells do wrong most of the time, so she is afraid of her magic and doesn't want to use it. Duncan doesn't believe in magic at all. Sparks fly when the two meet, but can a non-believer be with a mage? This is a short one. It's a nice little story about a woman learning how to believe in herself. A man learning how to accept that he could have been wrong. A couple learning to compromise. There is no sexual content in this one, so good for ages 12 and up.
Not bad. I like the characters Amity and Duncan; the author made them very real with their individual doubts and concerns. What I found difficult is how Duncan changed his mind so quickly - love may move mountains but attitudes are another thing. It felt a little too pat.
I received a copy of this from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Short and sweet, with a good message as well. The instalove was a bit too insta, and also the H, Duncan, was an idiot. Then again, pretty much every Duncan (minus one) I've come across in Romancelandia turned out to be a dumbass, so not really surprised with this dude. At least he wasn't an asshole.
I usually shy away from fairy tale re-tellings. This has fairy tale feeling - imaginary kingdom, magic - but trom the start I felt immersed in this strange world. Amity is a bit inept as a spellcaster. Duncan was raised a non-believer. Nicely told story.
