Welcome to Drawn & Quartered ...a waking nightmare where nothing is as it seems, and truth is devoured by the shadow of fiction. This accursed realm is ruled by fear, and home to infinite forms of terror. Behind its sinister gates dwell femme fatales, deadly bouquets, scorned lovers, and of course - monsters. Join them in the darkness, if you dare, but be warned, they may invite you to stay...forever.
Daemon Manx is an author with a backstory. He is a recovering addict who spent nearly a decade in the prison system, where he focused on recovery and learned to perfect his horror writing craft. He has been featured in magazines in the US, the UK, and Germany and, in 2021, was nominated for a Splatterpunk award for his book Abigail. Daemon is the author of the Ojanox series, endorsed by Scream Queen actress, Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp). He was a bonus round winner on the gameshow Wheel of Fortune in 1999 and is infamously known for a motor vehicle accident involving President Ronald Reagan’s limousine. After struggling with addiction and incarceration, Daemon now uses his story to illustrate the positive outcome of sobriety and offer a glimpse at what life can be like when one receives a second chance.
This book includes four freakishly cool horror stories. I can’t ever get enough of Daemon Manx’s writings. They are always well done, creepy, entertaining, and sure to be page turners. I never know where his stories will go but I am always excited for the ride. I had not read any of Diana Olney’s works before, but I must say I think I’m a fan for life. Her writing is quite impressive and really entertaining. I hope to read more from these incredible authors soon.
Short Stories: The Party by Daemon Manx Maneater by Diana Olney The World Turned Red by Daemon Manx She Devil by Diana Olney
It was my pleasure to receive a free copy of this book from the authors but that does not in any way affect my opinions in this review of these entertaining stories.
What happens if you mix Twilight Zone, a Quentin Tarantino flick, a gothic horror tale, with a shot of extreme horror? You get Drawn & Quartered by Daemon Manx and Diana Olney. This collection of four horror stories were well developed and full of twists. Manx and Olney combine creature feature, vampires, human monsters, and eco horror in their stories. These are two authors to watch. I would love to see another collaboration between these two talented authors. The last story, She Devil, was an erotic gothic vampire tale that ended with a boom. I am crossing my fingers for a continuation of this story. I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 blood soaked stars.
Both authors take you into their world and you don't want to leave. Each story is different, but these two authors' styles work well together. You almost think all of the stories were written by the same person.
Vampiric delights, bloody betrayals, and hearts left brutalized on the floor, Drawn & Quartered delivers. Manx has a strong/experienced voice in his stories, and his words make an impact. Olney soars with lush poetic prose, making the macabre her playpen and bathing her characters in blood with the enthusiasm of a Bathory. Strippers, nocturnal rendezvous, leering immortals with scarred faces, this is a nightscape worth exploring...but just make sure that you're invited into the pages before crossing the threshold.
Four different stories, all dragging a reader through great imagination of both authors only to live him half death from emotions and longing for more - the title “Drawn & Quartered” is very adequate. Great read and great experience.
I just finished 'Drawn & Quartered' by Daemon Manx and Diana Olney and it was great! Four stories that were all riveting but the absolute best was 'The World Turned Red'! That story has the makings of an epic apocalyptic horror novel! Really enjoyed this one!
Daemon Manx and Diana Olney give us four tales of bloody brilliance in Drawn & Quartered. There are two stories by each author:
The Party (Manx) - a couple headed to a Halloween party get the surprise of their lives when something crashes out of the sky as they approach the party's location. Bright lights flash, electronics die, and the two are left to walk the rest of the way through the woods to their friend's house, hoping that everyone is alright. What they'll find will bring back all the nightmares of childhood.
Maneater (Olney) - this is a short one; it's written like prose but reads like poetry. A woman, desperate to do something right after her husband leaves her, devotes all her attention to a very special plant, one which requires a very special diet.
The World Turned Red (Manx) - a story which explores the depravity of humankind in a post-apocalyptic world running with blood.
She-Devil (Olney) - absolutely my favorite story of the bunch, and one I hope we'll get a sequel to at some point. Alex is a vampire in LA - one of the more difficult places for a bloodsucker to live. She makes a living (well, she makes money anyway) as a stripper at a club called Dante's, doing her best to forget the evil man who, twenty years ago, made her into the creature she now is. When the man from her past shows up at the club on the same night as a beautiful, mysterious woman, Alex will discover feelings she thought she'd put to bed and a passion for bloody vengeance.
This is a great little collection, sexy without being sleazy, with just the right amount of blood (quite a lot) in four vastly different but equally enjoyable stories.
