STORY: I read The Sinners of Boston Mafia series and really enjoyed those books. Tony’s story has more of a stronger presence in books two and three. It also shows the history of Tony’s hatred for the MC Legion. In book two, Tony was a hot mess but came back in book three new and improved, and I was excited to read his story. Now that I have read it, it was ok.
I am not sure what it is but it wasn’t that dark for me. Was Tony a jerk, yes, but it doesn’t equate to dark for me but can still be labeled under dark. I got intensity from Tony, but it wasn’t strong enough for me as well. Evie, I liked her character. With this being an age gap, Evie 22 and Tony 38, I liked that Evie wasn’t afraid at times to stand up to Tony.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY: Sexually, I like the build up between Evie and Tony. There were a few scenes with on lookers but I was ok with that. Sexually, they were a turn on for me.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: I like the mix of MC with Mafia but the Mafia aspect was not strong in this book. This is understandable because Tony really wasn’t and didn’t want much from that world. With that being said it was good seeing Vinn in a few scenes. I also liked Tony’s little team consist of Knox and Cainan. They are not connected to the mafia.
OVERALL Ok read for me, where it wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t hyperventilating how good it was either.
✰✰TRIGGERS: talks of drug addiction, assault, etc..
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
3.5 Stars This is an age-gap enemies to lovers arranged marriage story. It’s a bit of a genre mash with mafia and MC. Tony has a real problem with the Legion MC he’s determined to take them down in whatever way he can they were responsible for his torture and kidnap and he hates them with a passion. His mafia family give him a choice marriage to an MC princess to forge peace between the factions or death. Neither party wants this union but both Tony and Evie have no other choice there fate is cast.
So this was up and down for me I rate my books mostly due to personal preference and this one wasn’t quite my thing though it was well written and I did manage to connect with the characters there was also something slightly missing. I think my main issue was Tony himself I mean initially he was awful with very few redeeming quality’s. I think maybe if I had read previous books in this series where he played a secondary role and his past was touched upon slightly I might have cut him a bit more slack than I did here. I think the problem was not having this information so I wasn’t aware of quite how traumatic Tony’s background was and when it was shared here it wasn’t until quite far in. So to me, he just looked like a complete and utter tosser.
I do get it is his past trauma impacting his manner and decisions and mood but I don’t think it’s fair he took it out on his new young wife Evie she didn’t choose this marriage either and despite her dealt hand, she acted much more mature than Tony did despite being sixteen years younger than him. Toby really was awful and treated his new wife abysmally humiliating and belittling her constantly and even though she did like the stuff at the club it was still a shitty thing to do to his virgin bride. They also spent too much time apart for my liking. Thankfully Tony does evolve through the course of this and realises just what he now has and he did grow on me as time went on.
This was definitely well written and there is no cheating or sharing a bit of voyeurism and this also contains some dark situations nothing massive this one really isn’t that dark. It also wasn’t majorly MC or even Mafia which I was surprised about. Finally, I was invested in the outcome here and convinced of the connection between Tony and Evie and they did have plenty of chemistry together. So yes equal pluses and minuses from me for this one. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Monster.
Oh my!! I don't really have words for this dark delicious book. Just that Vanessa Waltz just about out did herself. Wonderful, bravo and all the other adjectives I can't seem to express right now. Wow just wow!!!
Brilliant, Dark, tense, thrilling, romantic, passionate, and disturbing, this ticks every box. Although it’s my first by this author it definitely will not be my last.
This is my very first book from this author and wow, she made me gasp and WTFing so many times while reading this book!
As you read the story, it goes darker and more twisted. There are several triggering scenes in the story so if you have certain triggers, read the book at your own risk.
Basically, this book is a well-written story where darkness consumed the hero with every fiber off his being. He was a haunted man and very broken on the inside. He was very angry and acts like a ticking time bomb. Knowing his back story, you'd understand they whys to everything though. I would have loved though if that back story was fleshed out, even just for a little bit. However, I understand if the author avoided taking that route as the story itself is already dark and heavy on its own.
I highly recommend this book especially if you love an anti-hero that is scarred inside and out, very dark in personality and doesn't hold back his snarks and attitude when he's in the mood! I love the hero's character here. The author didn't dial back his attitude and make him a softie. He was through and through a dark character even until the end and I love it!
Okay, I like the 1st half of the book, especially how the girl was a jewelry designer- that was awesome. But when she gets trafficked & finally comes back - all her emotions/feelings are placed aside for all the main guys issues. This is where I was really annoyed. Then at the end you learn that he's been trafficked too but we still have no spotlight on her trauma. This is one thing I really ahte about these dark romances. They spotlight rhe guys trauma more so than the girls trauma. It really angers me because usually these guys are in the thick of these things but the girls are mostly just ignored. Which begs the question, whose your audience, writers? Men? Cause honeslty most men don't read romance. So ho are you not seeing that you're clearly ignoring the biggest trauma for the girls side when it's only highlight thw guys? Like, come on! Your audience is mostly women & their fantasies, so why hold back their importance over the guys?
Ok. Lots of unwarranted, unjustified push and pull. Largely likable, interesting characters. Couple liked each other but Tony held himself back, low key treating Evie badly, but not really. Past trauma, of course.
Story was so like others and not dark which was warranted. No penetrative sex until 65% with lots of fooling around. No reason for them to not have gone all the way earlier on other than to develop some contrived tension. Quasi bdsm just for spice which didn’t come through.
Nice, safe book that didn’t not hold my interest. DNF at 70% 3-star ok read, 2 stars for my interest. Waste of time.
I really loved this forced marriage enemies to lovers story, it has a lot of action and several nicely steamy scenes and then finally after all of the action there is a very nice HEA. I recommend it highly
Anthony’s book is the one I’ve been dying to get my hands on….and the wait was totally worth it💯 Tony’s family forces him into a marriage with the President of the Legion MC, to ensure he settles down due to his efforts on trying to wipe them all out - especially after what they did to him😢
But Evie is completely unexpected and Tony although he doesn’t show it, is quite enamoured with her…but the danger of what he’s doing soon puts them both on the frontlines - will they survive to live another day?
Absolutely loved this Monster size, Monster packed story and I found even though I never liked Anthony in the previous series, he completely redeems himself in my eyes in this one😍 I can’t wait to see what the author has up her sleeve for the next book….I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
Tony and Evie are forced into a marriage that neither wants and he happens to hate her. He will make her his perfect wife but will she submit? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Great characters with lots of depth and intense chemistry. I really liked it.
I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
First and foremost I have to say that I haven't read the "warnings" and it was my fault! I honestly truly dislike age-gaps and this has it. I still read it, because I asked for the ARC before reading the info. I just imagined that they are only a few years apart.
I'm going to review the book as if there was no age-gap.
The book starts off with an arranged marriage between a biker woman and a mob man. Nothing out of the ordinary, right? Well, along the way I learned a lot about these families and what they've been all through + what dark secrets lie ahead and in-between!
I have to say I loved Evie, she was fierce and wouldn't let just someone to talk her down! She was trying to be independent and on her own so that she doesn't have to ever depend on a man's money or anything. I liked that about her a lot! Not backing down AND making something of her life all on her own!
Tony was a different kind of a story. He's dark, troubled, handsome and a man! Haha. No, but once he said he does something he does it and sticks to it, no matter what! His past is so freaking dark and unexpected. I loved getting to know his side of the story, but at the same time my heart ached for him!
The whole storyline was perfectly planned, I'd say! From the start we got a look into our couple's live and how it was going and what they had to do. Then came the middle of the book and I thought my heart will die from all the things happening. I couldn't take it at the same time and was screaming at them to do it differently!
So far I read about 3 books by Vanessa Waltz and I loved them all! This one was maybe a little bit darker, but my dark soul can't complain! haha.
UGHHHHH! This is my favorite book trope! I’m always like yes arraigned marriage tell me more!! This book though… the author was trying to do too much. The story starts with a marriage where the male picks the girl based on a picture and has a wild prenup, sounds good! But something was off.
Our H- Tony was cold and the whole “he has a backstory” but let’s not tell you until the end of the book… was annoying. I needed that early on because I wanted to punch him.
Our h- Evie was immature, she blamed Tony for ignoring her but… she was literally ignoring him!
At about 56% of the book… it got weird. The author added another trope into the mix and I was not feeling it, I’ll be honest I skimmed after this. The twist put me off that much.
What worked: The back story, I did like the MC and mafia mix The writing was VERY good
What didn’t work: The sex club factor …? The lack of connection with the mafia members Vinn, this is a mafia book and they all hated one another and were rude. Tony wasn’t in the mafia but his dad was? And he owned it but Vinn was there, it was confusing. The dark factor that wasn’t there, this wasn’t a dark mafia romance
Will I continue on? Yes I loved Vanessa’s precious books so yes if this series continues I’ll read! I just hope she picks ONE trope
This book was all my favorite tropes combined in one steamy book and tied up with a nice big bow. Vanessa Waltz is a new author to me, and I'm so happy I was introduced to her. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be looking for others written in this world she has created.
Tony Costa is the monster of the mafia. Evie is the Princess of the MC gang, Legion. To come to a truce a marriage is arranged. Tony can't stand the motorcycle gang, but Evie is different. She falls quickly for Tony and the scenes between them ignite the pages. I love how innocent and naive Evie is and she really throws her whole heart into this arranged marriage. Tony is everything I love in a man, a possessive and domineering alpha anti-hero.
FOUR STARS. I enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and felt the connection to them. I wanted more from the mafia because that's my jam, but I didn't feel unsatisfied while reading. My tastes can be a little darker than most. :P
*** Thank you to the author and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. ***
I saw that Monster takes place in the Sinners of Boston world, but that you could still enjoy the book without reading the others. I am a stickler for reading a series in order, because I feel like you miss some of the smaller details that can make or break a whole series. It was already too late by the time I saw the warning, and there was enough back story that I could follow along without feeling like I missed out. I still really enjoyed this story because it mashed two of my favorite tropes without taking away from either one of them. The monster of the mafia is forced to marry the princess of the mc. He despises everything she stands for, and she can't help wanting to know what makes the monster tick. They'll incinerate the pages as they learn what makes the other go boom.
We are finally getting Tony's story. After everything we have read when it came to this man, I have strong hateful feelings towards him. He has done little to redeem himself and has now been missing for a while. Now he is back and he has a major story to tell, and he has revenge on his mind.
Tony has a lot of plans and people keep getting in his way, Vinn is one of them. Vinn has little time for a revenge plan when it comes to Tony, so he sets Tony up to get married to a biker chick and hopefully put this revenge plan to death. But all it seems to do is make Tony's plans stronger and make him hate them more.
Evie is made to marry Tony. She has little idea of what goes on with her father's MC and likes it that way. She will marry Tony and find peace with him, but the blinders come off pretty quickly when she marries and finds that Tony has little use for her, and didn't want to marry her at all. Evie doesn't take this news well and makes his life a living hell. LOVE THAT!
These two have a lot of stuff to work out before they can find their HEA. Tony's story is dark, twisted, and he needs someone like Evie to find the light he has always craved. The man he becomes is wonderful and it is great to see him in Monster!
It was okay but I wasn’t too happy with the writing style. It lacked something.
So Evie has an arrangement where she marries Tony because her father made it so. They are supposed have a child together and the prenup states certain things which must be done during their marriage like how many times they have sex per week. They are given a specific amount of time to have a baby except Tony doesn’t want children. He hates bikers and considers them trash. He’s older and acts more mature while she doesn’t. They of course have different views about things since she’s a biker girl and he’s upper class snub.
Oh my Gawd! Ms. Waltz is an amazing, dark mafia romance writer! I could not put this book down! So intense! So debauched! The scenes in the club…just WOW!
I absolutely loved Evie's affirmations!
Tony is one broken man! Can Evie soften the hard edges of his heart so he can have some happiness? I was definitely rooting for her!
What Ms. Waltz puts these two and her readers through... pure, adult entertainment!!! I LOVED IT!!!!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The author took a popular trope and made it her own. Who would have thought to arrange marriage between a biker princess and the son of a mafia Don. Evie and Tony seem as though they were I'll matched. Tony had so much darkness in his past. He had demons that I didn't even think Evie could help eradicate.
Majority of this story had to do with Evie and Tony. She wanted to build a life with this man. Tony wanted nothing to do with her but couldn't deny he was obsessed with her. My favorite scene involving the two of them was when they went for sushi as a date. So many sweet moments between these two.
I have no clue why anyone would dislike this book unless they already don't like the genre, in which case, people need to stick within their limits. Tony wasn't some brutal unforgivable warlord unworthy of redemption. He had a very strong conscience and drive to be absolved that was tearing him apart. He was very clearly trying to keep Evie away from his ugly. It was commendable. Flip the haters, this book was great!
This book was a little all over the place for me. It was a like a trope-a-palooza: Mafia, MC, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, age gap. Tony picked his wife because she was hot, but then didn’t want to have sex. But he watched her every move obsessively.
It was an interesting story, but I think I expected something different.
I could not put this book down! I was enthralled with Tony’s back story since first meeting him in Arranged. It was darker than I ever could have imagined. Evie is a Queen and is therefore perfectly suited for the mafia prince.
Love trying out new authors! Vanessa Waltz took me on a chaotic ride! Monster had a little bit of everything! Suspense, angst and passion! It had a sweet side to it! Wonderful read!
A new author to me, and a thrillingly dark and debauched read. Not realizing Monster was part of a series (okay, yes, it was the cover), I followed along adequately diving into Tony and Evie's story. This arranged marriage romance sucked me in fast, and may I say our tortured hero was so diabolically delicious! Twisted love, suspense, violence, and plenty of steam kept me wide-eyed 'til the wee hours.
The story of the couple being in an arranged marrIage was good . My only complaint was that the couple was separated for most of the story . He would come home and visit her and then it might be a month before he saw her again . This made me very frustrated.
There were so many things going around in this story that it made for a really weird book . It was MC but mafia but he wasn’t really mafia and then there was sex trafficking rings and it got overwhelming.
That being said I really enjoyed the couple . Everything else was just too much .
Another book to tick off my physical TBR Shelf...can honestly say this has been sitting on my shelf for more then a year. Felt this was only average for me - won’t continue series
