Me, a mermaid? Not anymore.
Life is wonderful until the morning I catch a merman in my net. One look at his perfect, pretty boy face, and I recognize him—Leander, Crown Prince of the Atlantic.

Not only does he recognize me, too, but he wants to take me back to the ocean with him. A curse has fallen over our people, and I can break it. But helping the merfolk who abandoned me? Yeah, that's a hard no.

Time to toss my stupidly handsome catch back to the ocean!

Except the merfolk don't take no for an answer, and they deliver me back to their prince in a cage.

New plan: break the curse and get the heck back home. But when two more princes show up wanting me for themselves, I find myself stuck in a spell cast by not one, but three mermen.

Infuriating Leander.
Playful Kai.
Stoic Barren.

They're charming, attentive, and hot enough to set the ocean on fire. Imagine my surprise when I realize I'm not meant to choose between them—they’re all my mates.

But will these rival princes be willing to share?

CURSED WATERS is the first in series of a slow-build medium-burn paranormal romance where the main character slowly collects her soulmates. Expect humor, steam, and a sassy sea lion who wants to steal the FMC's spotlight (and maybe her mates, too).

This book was previously published as the serial Cursed Waters (Season One) Episodes 1-57 in the Kindle Vella store. Season Two is currently ongoing and can be read on Kindle Vella.

Love!!

I have been on the hunt for a mermaid book for FOREVER!! GAH! This one ticked all my boxes. Claira that poor girl. Her life started out so dang hard and made even worse by Lee showing up again.. but i gotta say, he redeemed himself. Kai... good lord, I dont think Ive ever laughed so dang hard during a book. He was just so aloof 90 % of the time. Barren.. now that man, I absolutely LOVE him. Ive licked him so he's mine.
I am questioning the shadow puppet dude, as it seems like there could be something there too. 🤔
I am impatiently waiting book 2. Bring it on!!

Finally!

A decent adult mermaid tale? Complete with smut and a riveting plot? Check, check! This book was awesome! I can't wait for the next one. I realize that this is also published through Vella, but I just can't read like that. My one drawback to this story is the the fact that our heroine can't use her tail. I'm sorry but if you're born with a tail, it's in your nature to know how to use it. Every other creature can move on it's own, or eventually learn how without teaching. Mermaids should be no different. Other than that one huge thing, this book is really good. All the stars to Cursed Waters.

Mermaids, Octopuses, and Tridents

The book is okay but there is some lag in the story in places. I found myself drifting to other books then would come back to this one. I think there needed to be more known about some trident, different version of mermaids, and human/mermaid knowledge to help bring this story together. Not having it and then this random thing happens and you have no idea the reason and nothing is explained makes it hard to follow along. Needed more world building and back story to make me give it more stars.

A good read

That was entertaining, made me laugh a few times. The first three quarters of the book went well the last bit dragged a bit. We kind of have an idea what she is and where the plot is going. So it's not a shocking cliff hanger.

Why did you read this book?
This was a reverse harem (my favorite genre) and it had good ratings.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an ebook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Fantasy, Horror, Humor and Comedy, Mystery, Psychology, Romance, Suspense

What was your favorite part in the book?
My favorite seen was when the main character pictured kai’s pet seal marrying Barren. My favorite phrase is “sea cumber,” You can easily figure out what they're referring to.

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes mermaids, dark humor, fantasy, romance, reverse harem, and adventure.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book?
I surprisingly liked this book a lot. I was a little hesitant especially given the cover because I thought it was a Little Mermaid retelling. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it was a unique story about mermaids and other mythical creatures. I liked how resourceful and strong the main character was in the beginning. I felt kind of conflicted how she decided to stay and help her old Kingdom even after they had her kidnapped. I mean I get it they could have attacked her real family, her people genuinely needed help, and the Prince promised her land family all the fish they could ever want. The author does an amazing job at describing people, places, and action sequences. I adored Kai, but the other love interests… I was just not a fan of them. I thought Leander was forgiven too easily and Barren barely existed in the story romantically. Overall, this was a great romantic fantasy adventure story and I highly suggest it if you like mermaids.

Are there any cliché scenes or concepts? (If yes, does the author add something unique to them?)
There are a couple cliche concepts. The main character was born special with special magic, but the author adds a fresh take to this because she adds a disability to the main characters transformed appearance. The main character is magically faded to be with royalty (in this case 3 princes).

How intense are the intimacy scenes?
They are detailed. MF, Voyeurism, Light BDSM.

At what “burn” level is the romance?
Medium.

Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender?
There are three love interests, all of the males, princes, and mermen.
Leander was her childhood friend / bully. His father is the one responsible for kidnapping the main character.
Kai my favorite of all the love interests. He is one of many children in line to the throne. He seems to have a great sense of humor and maybe a few screws loose.
Barren the strong and silent type. His body is covered with scars and he has an arm missing. He was the most distant love interest of the group.
(There's a hint of a possible 4th love interest. A dark mage, that claimed to be Poseidon to a little girl. But we don't get to know his identity in this story so I left him out.)

2 Stars.

I would recommend this to people who don't struggle with exasperating or very shy characters (they were not excessively so, just young, inexperienced, etc.), family issues, likes RH and YA. Please read the warnings; this has explicit content.

Review: I am not usually a slowburn or a huge fantasy reader, but I was hooked immediately (no pun intended). I went in pretty blind and I’m so glad that I did. My heart hurt for Claira and I loved her! I had no idea what was going to happen in this, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Each guy was different and had different personalities and that made me like them and what they brought to the book. While sometimes it felt a little YA, I enjoyed the humor it brought. This brought me right out of my book slump & I couldn’t put it down. But the way it ended left me with so many questions, I can’t wait to dive into book 2. 😉🧜‍♀️

Human cocks were so needlessly showy. They got in the way too damn much, and I’d discovered over the last month that mine seemed to have ideas of its own. Some that I approved of, but others…

How could someone be so disarmingly stunning while admitting to something so stupid?

He was my catch, my captor, my savior… A complete pain in the ass pretty boy prince, and I couldn’t stand looking at his idiotic smirk for one more moment.

He was just standing there, his chin cast down, sullenly looking at his half-erection like some sort of dejected flounder.

“Mermaids are like waves,” Papa had told me. “They aren’t meant to be stagnant. It goes against their nature.”

“That’s my girl,” he groaned, fisting a handful of my hair. “You feel so fucking good.”

Sea god or not, Poseidon would never have that kind of control over me. I’d rather die alone.

“You cannot tell me you love me,” he rumbled, tongue slashing, teeth raking, “and expect me not to follow you.”

“Do you know how long I’ve been in love with you?”

An enjoyable beginning, but it takes a massive downturn after the 20% mark. Every chapter following the setup has a new plot to follow, and the characters' actions make zero sense. How is Claira making out with Leander after spouting her hatred for him and cursing his existence? Why does Leander have her kidnapped to help break the curse if he's going to help her escape in that same chapter? She decides to break the curse to help her family financially, but why does she give up almost immediately and stay with Leander? Her land family isn't even in danger, she could easily leave. One moment, the character's actions make sense, and the next, they're just doing whatever because I guess the author wants them to do something else. This isn't even counting the fact that the mermaids are weirdly aware of human customs/stuff. They've just come to land, but they know how to use phones? They know that betta fish exist but don't know that they're freshwater fish?

“And sorry I bit you, there’s a lot I can do with my mouth. No! I-I mean, my mouth does a lot. On its own. It does a lot on its own.”

Clair’s has a good life but it didn’t come easily. Now the mer-people show up and it’s thrown into chaos. Everybody wants to use her for their own gain.

There are three mer-men who are now in her life.
Lee is an old childhood friend. The heir to the throne of her area. He cares for her and wants to keep her safe.
Kai is the youngest prince of his area. He travels with Laverne, a sea Lion, and just wants someone to see him for who he is. He wants friends and maybe more.
Barren is the brother to the queen of his area. He has been hurt at some point in his life. He doesn’t want to hurt I’m his friend so he stays quiet more often than not.

The puppet is awesome and I hope he ends up in her Harem as well. He seems mischievous and fun.

The characters are fun, the story is almost like a retelling of the little mermaid, with some obvious twists. Im
Interested to see where it leads and how it all ties up.

Cursed Waters ~ (Queen of Tridents Book 1)

Cursed Waters ~ (Queen of Tridents Book 1)  ~ If you love ocean fantasy with a twist of forbidden love, Cursed Waters reels you right in. The main character starts as a mermaid with the perfect undersea life — until one fateful encounter with a mysterious merman changes everything. What hooked me was how Shana Brooke balances myth and emotion. There’s betrayal, destiny, and a deep dive (literally) into what it means to lose your world and redefine yourself on land and sea. The world building feels cinematic — glowing reefs, haunting siren songs, and ancient magic tangled with royal politics.

The romance is addictive and layered with tension, not just another “mermaid-meets-boy” trope. You’ll find yourself gasping at the reveal near the end — especially when the true nature of the curse comes out.

If you like stories where strength is forged through heartbreak and saltwater tears, this one will grab you by the gills.

The characters are weird and a little inconsistent (okay, maybe quite a bit). There were a couple sideplots that were thrown into the mix to make things interesting but then forgotten at some point.
Not a huge fan of calling a penis a sea cucumber either.

This book didn't really feel like a reverse harem, tbh.

I’m so impressed with this novel, how the author wove aquatic references throughout the story, which made it so realistic to the world that we were in, and humorous. Ahem, sea cucumber! LOL. The characters were fun together. I just loved everything about this world. Some of the action and blocking details could have been better. I often couldn’t tell how the guys were holding onto the mermaid. There were just some things that I couldn’t picture that the author could’ve fleshed out better. But such a fun story! I haven’t read anything this good in a while.

Dnf 40%. I liked the beginning but when she “hung around” after she escaped and asked Leander (the one responsible for her capture) to help, it just didn’t make sense. The dad was beyond horrible and the two princes that came to visit (and I assume to later be part of her reverse harem) just seemed flat. The one was a bit of an airhead and the other I had a hard time getting any read on him at all. The book just seemed it has missing sentences and once the word “yoinked” was used to describe someone grabbing something-i just couldn’t.

This is well written and a wonderful adventure book. I love reading about mermaids! However, I was looking for RH and it is NOT even nearly as spicy as I expected. So rating for RH not so much but a good story. I read this on kindle and simultaneously ordered the hard back from Amazon. At 50% through the book I canceled my Amazon order. Beautiful cover though. For RH, NEEDS SPICE, LOTS OF IT.

I've yet to find a underwater society-esque based book that I actually enjoy. This came close, but unfortunately fell short of what I was looking for. There was some good world-building though, unfortunately there wasn't enough to make me interested in the ending or in a next book (if there is one).

Okay, I loved this book, but I was a little disappointed we did not see barren side into the end of the story. There was only sex with Leander, which was hot, but I wanted more from kai and Barren. It was a little disappointing near the end, but I still preorder the next one because I want to see what happens. Please, more sex scans! I felt bad for giving 4 stars btw

How DARE you leave me on a cliffhanger like that! How will I survive not knowing? Despite Mermaids not being something I typically read, the story line has a lot of plot twists that had me at the edge of my seat at the end. This can hardly be considered a smut book as there is only two sex scenes and they are timid, but I enjoyed the book.

Hooked

This book left me reeling!!! I'm tell you what I was swept away in the current of events and flailing my tailless finless legs (useless things). There was more than one time I thought I was drowning, covering my mouth like the sea itself would pour out, but I degree. Glad it's a book series now ready for the next

loved this unique but fairytale based book

It’s so refreshing to have a book with well developed characters and unique story line. It might be based on a fairytale but it’s got such a funny and juicy type of adventure. The references used to describe human things in comparison to mermaid things cracks me up!!

This was a great read. All the feels. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Hopefully Lee hasn’t ruined everything. And Kai heals fast. And Barren, well he was just getting interesting.

Truly loved this book and can’t wait for the following ones. The romance is actually a little kooky rn and not making the most sense. Love a why choose, but rn there just seems to be a few things missing. But the story, and the banter, and the characters…love love love.

Narrated by twenty year old Claira, after her Mer king father’s rejection, Claira establishes a new family and new life on land.
When Claira catches Leander in her fishing net, she gets drawn into a quest to break a curse.

Not bad at all. It did leave off on a cliffhanger, so I was right about that. But man, those last 100 pages were an emotional rollercoaster I didn't expect. I'll probably start the second one up later.

The main character didn't make any sense, she had a personality in the beginning and was relatable but after a while and being held captive, she became a damsel in distress and trusting someone she shouldn't trust and whom she stated she hated.

This sat on my shelf for a while and I am glad I finally read it. The first book was a slower start but books two and three had me hooked and I read them over the course of a weekend. I cannot wait until book 4 comes out so I can FINALLY see more Abyssal scenes!
