There are two main characters in this book. They are Mike Bowditch, who is a Maine game warden investigator, and his girl friend Stacey Stevens. They are on a kayaking trip after getting back together as a couple when they had been apart for quite a while. Their plans are ruined when Mike is asked by a former colleague to check up on what is happening at an island which is a bird sanctuary which Stacey had happened to some summers interning on. The founder of the sanctuary has gone missing. While camping at night they not too far from the island, they hear a gun shot. Then the next morning when they get to the sanctuary island, they find two interns murdered.
The author's main character and the Maine setting is really opposite to who I am but the stories are crafted well and crime fiction is a favorite subject of mines. This is my second read in this series, the first was his series opener.
When in Maine, read a book or two about Maine and/or Maine authors. Read the 1st two books in this series last summer. Jumped to Book 13 because the mystery/murder took place on a small island with small research team studying puffins. Islands, Kayaking, Birds, Camping, Fog
First time I've read this author. Didn't have me on the edge of my seat. Some of it was just annoying. The ending was anticlimactic. His main two characters were interesting.
