Ms. Marvel’s powers are back in order! But that doesn’t mean things will get any simpler in Kamala Khan’s life. Her past is about to collide with her future, as shocking revelations change everything! It’s a good thing that Kamala’s closest friends Bruno, Nakia and Zoe are there for her as an era comes to an end! Then, a time-traveling Kamala shares an encounter with Carol Danvers…back when Carol herself was Ms. Marvel! And the team-ups don’t end there: when a science demonstration goes awry, Kamala is tangled up in a crazy body-swapping caper with Spider-Man! And the sudden reappearance of Mar-Vell, the first Kree Captain Marvel, draws Carol and Kamala back together in the present day for an out-of-this-world adventure!

"GAAAH!!! Wait a minute . . . quests? Info dumps? Exclams? When did my flying sloth plushie turn into an NPC from a circa-2005 video game? I'm getting 'World of Battlecraft' flashbacks!" -- Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, quickly on her way into a retro-tastic adventure storyline, whether she wants to or not
Ms. Marvel: Generations is a special edition graphic novel that collects three largely standalone stories from the on-going series and then tacks on three independent 'team-up' escapades, two featuring Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel and one with Peter Parker's amazing Spider-Man. Those introductory narratives are just wonderful - co-creator G Willow Wilson has done consistently exemplary work writing for this winning super-heroine while also providing just the right heartfelt and humorous flourishes to the ensemble-driven plots - and two of the three team-ups (especially the one with the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler, highlighted by a Freaky Friday sort of plot complication for the two well-paired masked crimefighters) were really entertaining as well. However, the finale - which, coincidence or not, was only the story that was penned by a man - was a little too drawn-out and repetitive or ridiculous, so it did not measure up to the rest of this very readable volume.
Bleh. I love Ms. Marvel but these stories didn’t really grab me the way other Kamala stories have. The artwork was decent throughout (except the last story which had wildly inconsistent quality in the art).
I think this book taught me that I just don’t like Kamala and Carol as a team. I don’t think they have any chemistry and I think Kamala has grown to the point where she really doesn’t need Carol for anything anymore. If anything Carol needs Kamala to set her straight from time to time.
The team up with Spider-Man was alright but could have been better. This volume is not the writer’s best work, I feel like she’s done way better Ms. Marvel stories. Then again she’s done more boring ones too so I guess this is middle of the road in terms of Ms. Marvel content.
TLDR: Could have been better, could have been worse.
