A hunter in disguise. A team of guardians who’d kill her if they knew. And yet, there’s something about them…
I ran from my past, but I can’t run from my unmistakable silver blood.
So I did what every girl fleeing their murderous family in a world full of enemies would. I started a curse dispelling business and put on an alter ego.
Just me?
As the Enchanter, I use my family’s hunter magic to dispel curses in the port city of Haven. I just want to keep my head down and survive.
Until guardians from the Aegis organization find me.
They’ve come to request the Enchanter’s help with an important case. Helping them gives me an opportunity to make up for the sins of my past.
But it means working with the very people that hunt my kind.
The Enchanter’s Blood is a slow burn reverse harem. The series is recommended for 18+ due to violence, bad language, and sexual situations.
The characters, races, and worlds introduced were quite unique and interesting, but overall, the story lacked in details and pacing. You could tell that this was probably a debut novel for the author. In general, there was a lot of telling rather than showing.
It was a little weird for the hunter FMC's name Arsyn/Syn to only be mentioned in the writing less than 20 times in a ~300 page novel. The men she joined shortly into the book referred to her as Enchanter (or Enchantress with no consistency) for a significant portion of the novel that I often forgot what her actual name was and was surprised when it was referred to.
While this was advertised as a slow-burn in the synopsis, it certainly didn't lack in the lust department. We only really learned about the full histories of a few men, and the relationships between the FMC and the men were developed to significantly varying degrees. For a powerful Aegis organization, the men seemed to be a rather dysfunctional team, with one of them gone for about half the book. The magic that all of them wielded wasn't described very well in general as well as their unique races. I still felt a bit clueless about what bennu and daeva were capable of by the end of the book.
Some plot inconsistencies that bothered me were included how Syn , how Syn had issues , and why Syn didn't try harder . The half mask/covering that Syn tried to wear for most of the book also didn't make much sense, as apparently her eye color gave off her secret species? A masquerade mask wouldn't hide that either.
The synopsis honestly gave more details about the FMC than I found out until a significant read through the novel. While we got the sense that she was hiding from hunters with her physical disguise, it wasn't really explained what made her run and who she was to the hunters.
While I am a little curious to find more about the societies, races, and Syn's developing powers, the writing overall was a little dry and chaotic for my tastes, so I don't intend on reading any further releases.

The more I look at the score in Goodreads, the more I want to bang my head against the wall😑 Well, let me tell you how I got to know this book, I saw the cover and said, wow, how beautiful it is😍 Then I read the summary of the story and said, "Wow, what an interesting story!🤩" But it wasn't😑
1️⃣The story was extremely ambiguous up to the first 70% of the book and it did not have a proper narrative at all.
2️⃣What happened between seasons 8 and 9? We were reading something in chapter 8, and in chapter 9 we saw that he was running away and fighting and.....Wow!!! You were just going to the middle of the dance! Can you tell me what happened that the previous chapter had a different story, as if you forgot all the previous pages, what you were writing!🤨 [yes i am angry] I was really confused these two seasons because it had nothing to do with another chapter and I was saying, what happened in the middle that you arrived here?
3️⃣A constant stereotype that appeared very badly. It is a cliché that there is always a girl who has very strange and powerful powers, and everyone is afraid of her or runs away or the whole world is looking for her😮💨 This character was something between these two. A person who has a lot of powers kills all the mana in herself, a killer! Then she goes to a group [a bunch of people] and then they should teach this girl, and this girl in the whole story seems to forget that she has power. which can take the manas of all of them. she just became a fool who knows nothing.
4️⃣The main character was showing being a prostitute in the full sense. Really pay attention, you will understand, there were 4 characters in the group, you kissed 2 of them and the other 2 were just making love + secondary characters. oh my god This is not friendship! If so, I say that you have to rebuild the meaning of friend in your mind. The story was unbearable for me!
5️⃣ The character was not bad either, but I feel that she was imitating some of the main points of character creation, which was very bad🤦🏻♀️
6️⃣The worldview was awful and the person himself, after several seasons and general thinking, you have to understand what world-building is like, which was also flawed.
Clunky dialog, situations felt very forced and contrived, with weak reasonings for how the characters act.
I mean a small example was: within the first couple pages the MF risks her life to meet with people she literally doesn’t have to meet with, just because her friend gives her puppy dog eyes. Risks her life. Doesn’t even fight it, just thinks something along the lines of “this is risky, and if they find out who I am I’m dead” and just does it anyway? No reasoning or backstory or thought process as to what would make that worth it?
I wanted to like this. I found the lore of the different magic-wielders and histories really interesting. It felt like there wasn’t enough used to build the story, if that makes sense, the main character is a Hunter and despite being trained from birth and incredibly gifted I found I knew very little of her abilities and at times it felt like she didn’t either? Kind of a strange blend of high-fantasy and real life, it could be really jarring at times. The main characters name is referred to so little that I genuinely forgot her name multiple times. I found Arsyn to be really manic at times, if you were a coveted Hunter who is on the run, wouldn’t you actually want to conceal yourself? I also got the vibes that this would be a reverse harem story? And I genuinely do not know if the writer was going for that. I would love to continue the series to find the answers to my questions, but I won’t because I felt like I was slogging through this at times. Oh well.

I enjoyed this even more the second time. However, I've been on a string of bad to mediocre reads, so that may be shaping my perspective. I absolutely loved how strong Arsyn was as the MFC. Some may say she's a Mary sue, but I don't think that term fits. I agree she's slightly overpowered, but her character was trained that way and she has a lot of experience. So it's not like one day she was like "oh I have all this magic that I can expertly weild". She's also not the only powerful character, arguably she's still one of the weaker characters in this first book. I also like how this book doesn't fall into the pining heroine trope. There is one scene at the end where one of the men kiss her and then says it was a mistake. She shrugs it off and even though she's embarrassed she says "screw that and walks away". None of this dwelling on why this man doesn't want her, or giving him all the power to just be rejected again and again. The plot and story arc were good as well.
I really want to start book two right now, but I have a meeting with my professor I need to prepare for 😭😭😭. Why!!! Why does life always get in the way of fun 🤣
First read: 3.75 This book was able to pull me into another world. Both the character and world development were really well done. There were some scenes I feel like could have been written with a little more oomph, but overall I really enjoyed the book.
Good pace, interesting worldbuilding though it would benefit from more details. For the category of books it belongs to, I'd say the story went fairly well.
I wasn’t really sure about this book when I read the blurb - it sounded a little more fantasy like than I usually read, but I decided to check it out and I am so glad that I did. I loved Arsyn - she is a fierce MC. She decided to leave her people, the hunters, and has made a life for herself as the Enchanter. When Aegis agents track her down for help, she takes a risk to help them, but can she keep her secret hidden? I loved Arsyn and her friendship with Em. Em is a sassy, fun sidekick, and I do wish we had a little more of her, but I understood why she couldn’t go with them. The guys are intriguing. The story is told from Arsyn’s POV and there were times, I did wish we had a POV from the guys, but I did enjoy seeing some of them open up to Arsyn. Also - Ted is awesome - I hope we get more of him and his attitude in the future :) The story had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down once I started. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Confusing writing. Transitioning from one event to another was too quick paced. Not enough background information about the world in the book. Couldn’t keep track with the introduction of the guys, what they look like, and their magic. They all kinda blurred into one flag person. Also isn’t she supposed to be like weary of the ppl that murdered her family? Kinda weird that she kept agreeing to one job after another with flimsy excuses
This feels like a rough draft. Like nothing has been sussed out and the descriptive writing is either missing or bland. The world building interesting, and I feel like this could be really good if it was edited better.
3.5⭐️ Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice 0/5🌶️ (verrrry slow burn) Vibes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1st person POV - Syn or The Enchanter
Here's what you need to know: urban fantasy, hidden identity, super powerful FMC who's currently not living up to her potential, why choose, slow burn (nothing has happened so far except 1 quick kiss), no cliffhanger but book 1 in debut series
This debut novel from JA Stowe was pretty good for a first book! The plot made sense for the most part but did feel like it jumped around a little bit and things would happen quickly so I'd be reading and then think "wait, how did we get here?" I'm liking Syn's character and how she strives for more purpose than just fixing silly Vexed Ex's and wants to join in on a bigger cause. But there are points in the story where she kind of resembles a limp noodle and needs the men to help her (save her from an alleyway ambush, carry her to bed when she's mana-drunk, waits for the men to break her out of the gladiator colosseum) so I'm hoping in the series she learns to be a little more independent and think critically about how to execute her plans without getting herself caught/hurt.
The men also don't even know her name at this point and it was mentioned so infrequently (she is usually just called the Enchanter or Enchantress by the men) that I had to dig deep to remember who "Syn" was when mentioned. Also, the mask bit didn't make much sense. Apparently it's to keep her hunter heritage a secret but the men (and they even mention this) see both halves of her face separately throughout the book so it's like... why bother? Then leading up to her kidnapping at the end when she's thrown into the gladiator fights, everyone is stopping to stare at her face?? She mentions getting "more weird looks than normal" ... Why? What are we missing? Once she's at the colosseum, it's dropped and we don't find out what was going on with her face. I hope this will be addressed in book 2 because it seems like a sign that something is changing with her.
I'm not sure what happened with Skye towards the end. It seemed like they (the men and Syn) were all vibing and getting along and flirting... then Skye and Syn share a kiss one midnight, and the next morning he's icing her out??? It wasn't clear if it was because he regretted the kiss or what so it felt like a weird personality flip. Anyways, I'm enjoying the overall plot and am having a good time so I'll definitely read book 2 whenever it comes out! Great job, JA Stowe!
(also - shelved as age-gap because most of the men are centuries old and Cyrus has actually "been around since the dawn of time" so he's ancient lol)
A good start! I love a good slowburn and this one got me out of a slump. No cliffhanger, but still looking forward to reading more about Arsyn and her guys.
Another great start to a new series. Interesting world building and magic system. Extremely slow burn…just some warming coals so far…like trying to start a charcoal barbecue. Here’s To Fears reading challenge -fear of the unknown (involves secrets) Wheels10 team challenge
It's a fun read, thought has some minor issues, like little jumps in the story and the pacing-that got a bit too slow in the middle and then a bit too quick in the last third of the book. The heroine is a smart mouth bad ass (though of course she is sometimes clumsy and needed to be carried to bed... 😣) And the strong men around her are entrance by her, I'm looking forward to see how the plot and the relationship will develop in the future.
Overall I really enjoyed the story. The world being built is an interesting one. My issue is with continuity. At one point Ari is cured of the curse, but the next it's back? And is her name Enchanter or Enchantress? Does she need to cover her face or doesn't she? If it's so viral to hide her hunter marks, why does she answer the door in just a towel?
I feel like this book (and series) could be great with better editing and more detail.

Intresting ideas that don't really lead to a cohesive story. This book started off interesting but quickly slid of the rails. Once the Ball gets interrupted, the story starts to go a lot different ways. Some plot lines are brought up and never discussed again. There is never really enough time with any individual guy to actually get to really know them(but I keep hoping for one).I think this book tried to fit into many ideas and really failed to make anything memorable. Also, this book needs a glossary. There are too many species and places in the story that are not very well defined. I'm really a fan of a beginning middle and end in individual books and with a lot of books nowadays I don't feel like they like to follow that guideline because they want to continue on in a bunch of serials but that isn't really a complete book. Nothing is really accomplished in this book it's kind of frustrating. As for the sexual elements, this is labeled as a slow burn, and it definitely is, I wasn't really enamored with any of the male leads. I didn't feel like there was any true connection with any of them.
Reread - downgraded my rating from 4 ⭐️ to 2.5 ⭐️ I’m not sure why I rated this 4 stars to begin with, I might’ve gotten distracted by the hunky men. But they all have no personality or back story? It was enjoyable enough to read in one setting but the plot felt disjointed and the magic system and race system made no sense to me. But I’m going to read the next one. Keen for some developments in the romance, bring on the why choose please.
I was initially worried that the FMC (Syn) would be TSTL since she agreed to do a job for a group known to kill her kind. So, I was pleasantly surprised with how resourceful and independent Syn is. Looking forward to the sequel. :)
I liked this and it probably would've been four stars if not for one shortcoming, lack of character development for the love interests. I obviously understand that this is Syn's story, but because we don't get any of the guys POVs it feels like we don't know of them nearly enough.
Parts of this book were great, but it felt half-formed. The transitions between most of the scenes were abrupt and confusing, the world-building was uneven, and the motivations behind everyone's actions were unclear.
Characters also act out suddenly. For example, there is a kiss scene with Skye near the end where he appears to lose control of himself and hate kisses the FMC. I was like wtf, did I miss a ton of sexual tension and banter and like any reason why this dude should hate his attraction to the FMC? It didn't make any sense. The last time he interacted directly with the FMC was a magic snowball fight where they were having a good time and seemed to get on.
I think it all boils down to a distinct lack of dialogue and conversation between characters, as well as poor use of body language to convey nuance. The charcaters talk shop, but that's about it. They all need way more development and opportunities to engage with the FMC (and reader!) to show off their individuality. It feels like there are huge gaps in almost every scene where people would normally be talking about their circumstances or expectations or feelings or opinions, but these characters just ... don't.
During a big fight with enemy forces, there's no planning or sharing of knowledge or tactical discussions or questions, they all just kill the army like 25-to-1 (yeah, that's right, they don't even have battle buddies or help each other out). After, they're all like, "Well, time to leave." Uhhhhh, NO, it's NOT time to leave, don't you need to talk to the people in charge and determine if the threat is contained, see if there were more attacks, check on basic security measures, debrief the population so they know how to handle the new threat, etc? Even if the team lead was taking care of that, he never had a single conversation with the FMC to see what went down! And she was at the center of everything! It was ridiculous and bizarre and lacking.
Also, some information needed to be presented in multiple ways. I had no idea who Quillon was, I had no idea what world the FMC was going to, I had no idea what its history was. I was still fuzzy on why the FMC wanted to go into the proverbial lion's den or why a novice like her was let loose in a politically dangerous situation in the first place. One moment, she's freaking out about dancing and being told to wing it, the next she is wandering the halls by herself. WHAT. Where is all the missing content between those two moments??? The whole purpose for her being there was to examine everyone's glamour to hunt down an otherworld human trafficker, but we get one mention of a dude hiding a zit with glamour and then there's no mention of her task again. Apparently, she just ignores her mission and decides to go kill some people based on a bad gut feeling rather than, you know, actual knowledge of what's going down.
I really thought it was weird that this magical spec-ops team took the FMC to a ball on an alternate world without making sure she had basic knowledge of customs and etiquette. She just sort of thumbs her nose at the new world and is like, "I do what I want, bitches!" but in a way that is stupid and reckless because literal lives are at stake, yet she's being wilfully ignorant and offensive.
And the gladiator scenes are just a hot, hot mess. That whole set-up is self-defeating/unsustainable. Also, why are the guards humans? Aren't humans like super weak and vulnerable? Why would anyone pick a human to guard vicious and dangerous magical beings when they're at such an uncommon disadvantage?
There's lots a little plot holes like this. It's too bad, with some critical analysis and retooling, this story could have been awesome.
Why did you read this book? It was a reverse harem, the summary looked interesting, and it had good ratings.
What format did you read this book in? Read it as an ebook on Kindle.
Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment? I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.
What genres do you think this book belongs to? Fantasy, LGBT+, Romance, Suspense
What was your favorite part in the book? I think my favorite part is when the main characters magical sentient whip hangs people it doesn't like upside down.
Who would you suggest this book to? Anyone who likes fantasy, supernatural creatures, or bad-ass heroines.
What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? I liked this book. the fantasy world in this story was unique and creative. I liked how the author created her own species and didn't just go with the common supernatural creature tropes. I liked how the main character didn't want to stand out but still wanted to help people with her abilities. Each one of the love interests were unique and had their own personalities which I appreciated. I was worried that the main character would have been a bit too overpowered but the author shows that even with her God like abilities she is limited in many ways. I also like that this is a slow burn romance especially since there are so many characters. There's a lot going on in this story and I'm excited to see that we've only scratched the surface of what's happening. Unfortunately it seems most of the books in the series haven't been written so I will probably put this story on the back burner until more of the series is produced.
Are there any cliché scenes or concepts? Main character is estranged from her family. The main character has special abilities that she was born with that are completely unique.
How intense are the intimacy scenes? There are no intimacy scenes unless you count kissing.
At what “burn” level is the romance? This is a slow burn romance.
Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender? There are six love interests, all of them males, and all of them part of a special unit called Aegis. Cyrus is the leader of the group and a bennu (an ancient powerful species that reincarnates itself). Felix is the playful character of the group he is a special druid that can turn in to almost any animal. Ari is a daeva (can control and alter the mind of people). He was once a slave and was brought back to life into the person he is today. Skye is one of the elemental twins. He is able to control water and earth. He is cold to the main character throughout the story. Shael is One of the elemental twins. Controls fire and air. He shows a passionate interest in the main character.

This was a fun, light hearted, easy to read story that was well paced and sucked me right in!
Arsyn Morgan is a Hunter - she’s the last of the famed Morgan bloodline - a famous family of hunters who hunt and kill otherworlders on Earth. Only, she didn’t love the life, so she left. She’s been living in a city called Haven living and working as The Enchantress - someone who can nullify magic and curses for a price. Business has been good. Her best friend Em is her partner and she’s been able to keep her true identity a secret.
Her new life and identity are out at risk however when a group of Aegis arrive one day and hire her to assist in a job they are working on. The Aegis are a group of peacekeepers who don’t like hunters. In fact, they’re the only things that hunters are scared of. But after doing the job to ensure they don’t become suspicious of her, they quickly see she’s very good at what she does and hire her for more. She’s sucked into their world and more frighteningly, she loves it. Each member of the team is someone she shares a connection with, and soon she also starts to see that her magic is reacting strangely to each of them.
As they go deeper in their search for a person the team has been hunting, someone responsible for human trafficking and slavery, Arsyn goes deeper into her feelings for the guys and deeper into her search for herself too. Only, will everyone like what they find?
I loved this book. Our FMC is super funny, lighthearted and quirky. She’s clever and kick ass and those are my favourite kind of ladies. The guys are also great thus far. There’s been a lot of sexual tension but nothing happens in this book - so in the spice department, it’s a 0,5/5🌶️ I’m sure plenty will happen in the forthcoming books.
I loved the premise of the story. It’s mostly fantasy, but it takes place on other planets, so I guess there’s a bit of a sci-fi element? Loved it though whatever it was. It’s unique.
I loved the weapons and fight scenes, and yeah. All round. Just great!
Arsyn comes from a line of hunters who's sole mission is to exterminate otherworldes. However Arsyn ran from her duties and a mission she no longer believes in. The Aegis enforcers of the four worlds seeks her help with their current investigation, while Arsyn desperately keeps her identity a secret.
Arsyn tows the fine line between bravery and stubbornness, I'm all for a strong female lead but not when I can't see myself following them into battle. This is the first book out of 6 so I'm looking for alot of character development for Arsyn. The Aegis, Cyrus, Felix, Shael and Skye, though they should have played a larger role in the story especially since this is their operation, they fell to the background for much of the story. The tentative bond between them and Arsyn happened quickly but fell flat. There wasn't much that happened to warrant the closeness they achieved in such a short time.
The pace of the story was rushed and with so much happening more details could have been laid out. A few times I was completely lost from once scene to the next, it felt like I was missing something. How did we get here from there? Or certain interactions were added after the fact that didn't blend well with the situation. The world building was on point, we get a basic understanding of the world that I didn't feel lost when they were mentioned. It was a strong start for Stowe with this book hopefully it picks up, connect dots and flows smoother.
My rating is more 4.5/5 stars, but I’m rounding up. This book is fantastic and I am so excited for the next book. My biggest issue with this book is that it’s very intense in terms of getting you familiar with the magic system and the fantasy world, where the author wants you to know everything the main character knows, is … a lot. When you then add in a slow burn with medium size harem(5-6 guys) which means starting the foundation for 6-8 characters, with high action and heavy intricate plot, it becomes … a lot. However, at no point does it feel rushed. My largest issue is that due to the speed you’re integrated in the world the magic has a few instances of it being more told than shown, which to me sort of disrupts the book (if that makes sense). And in that sense - I do wish we had more time learning about the magic system before we’re also thrown into the plot and building of relationships.
I tend to think the humour one tends to find in fantasy books as campy, but I was surprised when I found myself laughing along.
I’m really happy to find a book where there’s a magic water because I’ve been wanting to read a series with a magic eater MC and haven’t had any luck until this book. She’s an eclectic character, and I look forward to getting to know her more.
What an excellent start to this series. The Enchanter (Syn) is the missing heir to the most prominent hunting family in the four worlds. However, she's not missing. She left after what happened to her mother. Syn currently spends her days helping the people of Haven by removing hexes and other inconvenient magical problems. All is going well until members of the Aegis come and request help from the Enchanter herself. After some discussions, Syn agrees to take the job, all while hiding that she is a hunter. The first part of the job is removing a mental block on one of the members, this is done successfully, and then the Aegis requests Syn to accompany them to a ball in Draqaar to help capture the person who is not only behind the block on their teammate but also on a plot to attack the four worlds. Once they arrive after a short mishap with Syn, things escalate quickly. The king is attacked, the undead exists, Syn is kidnapped, Syn must fight for survival, Syn is saved, and other pieces start falling into place.
This book was a train wreck. The story started off with little context, but I kept reading in hopes of understanding this seemingly unique world and magic system. However, I only became more confused with each passing page. It also didn’t help that the FMC made the most baseless and idiotic decisions. The story’s events did not flow and the plot almost read like tropey scenes slapped together in a random order. It was so jarring to read. For example, the plot jumped from the FMC giving in to dance at a ball to her finding and attacking two random assassins. Then, she somehow had her Hunters blade despite not bringing any weapons to the ball. Before I could even process what the FMC was doing, she was ambushed by (multiple?) assassins who were then thwarted by an induced orgy? I really hoped the writing and plot would improve throughout the book, but it didn’t.
