I am a man born in the wrong era. My heart yearns for faraway places and even further afield times. Tolkien had me at the beginning of The Hobbit when he said, ". . . one morning long ago in the quiet of the world . . ."

I love to read high fantasy and epic fantasy novels, and I have a passion to write, to weave a story with words that draws the reader into another world.

In Book 2 of Robert Ryan’s Shaman’s Sword series, the focus shifts seamlessly from locating Shar’s ancestral swords to the next critical step in her campaign: forging alliances, perhaps even laying the foundation for an army. Ryan masterfully conveys this shift without overt exposition, allowing Shar’s actions and decisions to speak for themselves.

Despite the urgency of her mission, Ryan takes the time to delve deeper into Shar’s character, highlighting her emerging leadership potential. Shar’s wisdom and maturity shine through as she prioritizes aiding those who have supported her and focuses on relationship-building at this pivotal stage. This thoughtful development adds authenticity to her transformation from a young woman of a swamp tribe to someone poised to vie for the title of emperor in future installments. Ryan skillfully evolves Shar in a manner that feels both convincing and relatable.

While Book 1 offered a comforting predictability, the second installment introduces a more complex narrative, filled with surprises and betrayal. The writing remains strong, drawing the reader further into Shar’s journey. By the end, Ryan leaves you not only eager for the next chapter in the quest but also feeling like an active participant—an armchair ally in Shar’s campaign.

good book not so bright MC.

Are usually don’t read these type of stories, but the first book in the series caught my eye this one not so much. The MC puts her beliefs into somebody she doesn’t know, and the person does, read it yourself. Not a very bright MC. I stopped reading that this series. You knew right at the beginning of the book that a certain character was up to no good, and as a reader you had to suffer with that knowledge through the entire book, you just wanted to beat your head against the wall. You thought how could she be so stupid. Well, I may read the next book in the series because I have nothing else to read at this particular time. Will let you know what I think about the next book.

A very intriguing read, especially with how the first book ended i was curious to what direction the author was going to go in this book. And i was very intrigued from the started, as the story seemed to start off from where it had been left therefore you were already into the action for it. Throughout the book the main character developed nicely, as they still learned things about themselves and never stopped moving forward in herself. With the ending of the book it made me stop and think, furthermore it made me want to pick up the next book in the series. The plot for the book still intigued me as i wanted to know what was going to happen next after each chapter ended.

bah! books 1 & 2 should’ve been one novel!

If they had have been, this is 5 stars, but the rhythm & continuity of the overall story & its progression are well out of any kind of balance.

Let’s not prevaricate: many authors throw out many books, quickly & at a smaller price & a smaller page count to match; it’s infuriating & in this example I’m not going to bother with the rest of the series!

That is how truly annoyed I am about this, so consider the £6 you had from me an experience I’ll avoid repeating.

This book is a good continuance of the first promising a very good fantasy series. The author further developed the main characters from the first book. Consider able growth is seen in our main protagonist. The issue I have with the book is it ends on a cliff hanger. I hate finishing up a book that leaves you hanging.

Gets Better

Book two gets better (which is good).
The story moves on and develops as do the characters.
This book ends on a cliffhanger and, I must admit I am eager to read the next book to see how it turns out!
A friend turns out to be an enemy.
If you enjoyed the first book you will enjoy this one.
Recommended.

Swords of Wizardry, book two of the Shaman's Sword series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). This series is well-constructed, each book seems to focus on a part of her journey, so you're satisfied even through you realize there is more coming. A slow build up, but each step, each tribe, and each alliance matters. Great series.

Enjoyable read

The second book in the series picks up where the first ends, and keeps the story ticking along nicely. There are twists and turns a plenty, and a unforseen figure is revealed, but you'll have to read the book to find out who.

Good story

First two books were well written and held my interest I'm looking forward to reading book three. I just hope there is not a book 4 that I'm going to have to wait 6 months for.

Good Story

But please move the story along. At the rate of winning one tribe per book, this story could take a long time to complete.
