Rate this book
★★★★★ “REALISTIC, GRITTY, AND FILLED WITH HOPE, HEROISM AND ACTION!” Three years long years of tyranny and bloodshed have passed since the invasion of Europe. Now a new dawn rises… A nuclear attack shatters the fragile peace between Beijing and Baghdad. In Europe, Caliphate forces are driven back across a war-torn Ireland and into the sea. As the tide turns and hope rises, hard decisions are about to be made. Britain’s most senior judge, a ruthless tyrant and zealous caliphate disciple, is determined to crush the seeds of rebellion with her own brutal form of justice. A British resistance operative, embedded amongst the country’s cruel elites, must put his own life at risk as the walls close in around him. Meanwhile, far to the north, the King’s Continental Army is preparing for all-out war. Within its ranks, four soldiers - friends - stand ready to assault the deadliest frontier imaginable, one that stands between them and the liberation of their homeland. And when the uprising begins, the battle that follows might cost them all their lives. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Praise for UPRISING ★★★★★ ‘The best book I’ve read in 20 years.’ ★★★★★ ‘Just gets nail-bitingly better.’ ★★★★★ ‘The best series that I have ever read.’ ★★★★★ ‘Another masterpiece.’ ★★★★★ ‘Fast-paced and action-packed!’ ★★★★★ ‘Tows you along at a great rate of knots.’ ★★★★★ ‘Simply outstanding!’

A fast-paced and entertaining thriller to follow up from the first one. D. C. Alden doesn't overburden his readers with unnecessary detail as some writers of military fiction do, although this is more than just military fiction. He uses just the right amount of characters to spread the POV, without overdoing it. It doesn't really matter that none of these characters are very deeply explored. The elephant in the room is that this isn't a self-contained story; it ends part way through. It should be stated clearly in the blurb to warn the reader that it is a quarter of a story and that further purchases will be required to complete it. I nearly docked a star for that. However, for the undemanding reader, it's an exciting thriller about a scary scenario that provides great entertainment.

Hang on to you seat

This is a very scary book. The possibilities of what is described is so authentic considering today's Covid19 virus is what makes it so scary.
Being a veteran there was little fault in the military descriptions.
I was possibly the best 3 book series that I
Have ever read.
Very highly recommended for those that are into action thrillers.
All I can say to the author is please write faster as I eagerly await your next tome.

As others have said only really a half of a book (maybe even a quarter). Seemed to just get going and it finished.. to be continued... There’s a story line enough for a number of books but this one didn’t really feel like it ended at a proper point.

Also I thought the previous books had finished the story line with the Chinese having been beaten and the population of GB living pretty much as slaves with just occasional freedom fighter attacks decades later?

Cracking read but...

I really enjoyed this, what I thought was the culmination of a great series, the fight back at last. Then suddenly the book ended sadly. I don’t pay for a sudden ending followed by 15% of another book. Not fair at all. Spoilt what was a cracking read till then.

Really just half a book

An action packed, well written page turner that builds upon the previous books in this chilling yet not unrealistic series. I raced through it in a couple of days as the tension built towards what I expected to be a satisfying conclusion. And then it ended.

This was really dis-satisfying with no attempt made to bring the story arcs to a close. I realise this is intentional: to wet the appetite for the next instalment, but given the lack of a definite follow up any time soon, I couldn't escape the feeling of let down. Wait until book 4 is out before buying this one is what i'd say. That does seem a bit harsh and if we all did that there may not be a book 4. So err.. Buy it maybe don't read it?

Just gets better

Yet another seriously good read. I've been reading a lot throughout the lock down and it never stops amazing me how much great stuff I have found on Kindle, from authors totally new to me. This series is well thought out, particularly the religious and political aspects. It reflects the "me before everyone else" and politically correct country we now seem to be existing in. A country where no one is allowed to take risks or criticise others or indeed to tell the truth as they see it without sanctions being taken against them. It carefully chronicles the roads down which these attitudes may take us, to the eventual and horrendous end. The loss of freedom, of free will and the ability to live our lives as we would wish. I can't wait to read the next book.

Good read

Enjoyed this book as I have the previous two. I enjoy this authors writing style, no nonsense and a good storyline. However I was left a bit annoyed at the abrupt ending and if I'd known I would have waited for the next book...

Greedy?

The story is good, the ending is bullshit. The ebook habit of cliffhangers is a lazy one and while I really wanted to know what’s happening, I’m pissed enough to decide I don’t care.

Buying the next one.

No choice now - I have to buy the third novel. A really good read and sadly very topical in the UK.

Excellent, progresses the series without any noticeable errors.
I like detail of the military items being used.
I obviously have no idea of they are correct but then again I don't really mind if they are not as it is an extremely well worked bit of fiction.
Moved onto Book 3
