I read all four volumes at University, olne followed the other until I closed the last page. Orwell is that marvelous sort of writer whose prose is simple and immediate, whose views and opinons are fresh and pertinent. So varied is this work, covering so many topics and with such a wide range that you cannot agree with everything he says (and he had a way of engaging and alienating both the left and the right in equal measure), but that does not matter. Who, other than members of the current, craven cancel-culture crowd, want to read only those things with which they agree and from which they can never grow. There are no 'safe spaces' here for thjose who had been better off never leaving the womb. Orwell challenges and intrigues in equal measure. Above all he is memorable. After reading these four large volumes there was hardly anything I encountered in life or priint which did not stir my memory of what he had said on the subject. This is a treasure-trove, not be missed. One of the great modern English writers whose works will live into eternity.
Another fantastic collection from probably my favourite author. I especially appreciated his reflections on his time in Spain as he became more forceful and motivated than I remember him ever being before. Probably a cliche to say this but him and Robert Fisk are probably the two people I wish were still around to hear their opinions on modern events.
