not all four star reviews are equal- I did enjoy this one, but gosh it was tough to get through for me, especially in comparison to the Chuang-Tzu and Tao Te Ching. It is such a wide scope of material with so many excerpts stitched together that sometimes I felt rather lost in its references. Of course the material was interesting, but I would not say it is accessible as the more popular texts (makes sense). I have learned quite a bit through this reading and will say that it sobered my view of Confucianism and Taoism alike––I would only recommend this book to someone with a bit of previous reading under their belt.
