3.5 stars.

I liked it, the best of all no OW drama.

I might read Brodie's book since it was mentioned that he has been waiting for 10 years to mate with his mate does that mean he's been celibate? But what about the OW that the heroine saw him in book 1? I guess We'll see.

Conall was a sweet hero, the heroine annoyed me with her strong dislike of hero's money.

This was....different.
Now I'm not trying to get my head around the paranormal stuff, cause there is not much point but the romance was good, on hero's side.
If heroine was my friend, I will shake her, bitchslap her and probably lock her up in a rapunzel-like tower.
She's a danger to herself and the society!
She has shown a "backbone" (read stubbornness) all at the wrong places.
She went to the rich guy's house in past avoiding her BFF Sam's warnings! Sam and her brother had to rescue her from that scenario, he (no matter how much of a douchebag he turns into later) risked the most, possible jail sentence for assault and missing out on his games.
She keeps doing the same thing in present, blocking everyone out and making her own decisions which would invariably put people who are already putting their life in danger for her in more danger.
I hate when people in protective custody just decides that no, they don't need the protection, they are gonna run anyway! Has to be the most selfish thing one can do!
The hero had to bend over backwards to show she's an equal in this relationship and she needs to act like an adult.
She was either "not good enough for him" or she felt "he's being controlling and bossy"! There was NO middle ground with her!

The couple: Connall and Pepper

Romance genre: paranormal
Series: Cauld Ane
Length: 294 pages

Plot: Pepper's best friend is getting married, and when Pepper goes to the wedding, she meets a hot Scottish guy who claims to be her fated mate (of sorts - there's a whole mythology). But she already has enough problems. She has an aggressive, highly prescient stalker and she doesn't know how to get away from him or who to ask for help. She ends up going overseas with Connall, where they fall in love and are attacked.

Commentary: Maybe the first book did the world-building, but to me, it seemed like it was just a kitchen sink of paranormal tropes. Everything left over was a mysterious loose end. Also Pepper was annoying. I get her problem with money, I really do - I have a pretty big chip on my shoulder about rich people as well. But dang, girl. He's your fated mate - you don't have to keep an accounting for things like meals and accessories.
There was a point where I couldn't tell what had priority - was there a bad guy in the Cauld Ane, or was it just the stalker? The letter writer? The whole thing just seemed a little busy for my tastes.

Previous book in the series: Bound by Blood
Next book in the series: Bound by Secrets

When Mrs. Jackson told me she was writing a paranormal book, I told her I don't do vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc. She promised there would be none of that. I have read the first book in this series and was really excited to see what she would do with book number two!

This book was a great follow up to the first book. There were some new things revealed with a second person becoming a part of the Cauld Ane people. There are surprises not hinted at, that show themselves before the end of the book. I would have liked to have seen some more of the new things that happened but perhaps Mrs. Jackson is saving that for book three. The book is a good stand alone if you have not read book one, I think you should do yourself a favor and read them both though. Perhaps I'm just partial to books that run in a series. I loved Tracey's other series also. Her Civil War time travel series. I like her writing.

I'll let the description below give you a run down on what happens with the book. I can say that Pepper, the main character finds herself being the victim of a man who is bent on making her life really miserable and does a good job of scaring the crap out of her. She is used to dealing with things on her own and is not good at asking anyone for help. She does find herself with two men who come to her rescue and they are not happy that there is more than one....

The story line moves along at a quick pace and it is one of those book you pick up and before you know it you have come to the end. I was surprised to find myself at the end of the book, I wanted more. I guess that is a good book when they leave you wanting more.....and you know another book will be coming! Can't wait for book number three!

BOUND BY FIRE is the second book in the Cauld Ane series and like the first, has all the right ingredients for a spectacular paranormal romance: hot alpha male who will love you unconditionally and will follow you to the end of the earth and drag you back if you try to leave, an action-packed plot, and writing that encompasses you and sucks you in.

Pepper has not had an easy life with an alcoholic mother, mother's boyfriends that paw at her when her mom passes out, and now a stalker who seems determined to ruin her life. In walks Connall and true to the Cauld Ane way, he instantly knows Pepper is his mate and the two become inseparable. I love how deeply these Scottish men love - to the core; there is no in-between with them and they won't take no for an answer. It is sexy and endearing, all at once. I do have to say that I didn't "feel" Pepper and Connall quite the way I did Sam and Kade, I thought that their love story almost took a backseat to the action-filled storyline. The secondary characters also seemed to have a more surface level depth than in the prior book, although this didn't stop me from getting really excited to hear their story.

I think Tracey Jane Jackson has an amazing ability to write a world that you instantly become a part of as a reader. She also seems to know just how to set up the next Cauld Ane love interest - leaving the reader drooling for the next book in the series. Now I just have to figure out whether its Max or Brodie I'm most dying to fall in love with next! You'll want to read this fantastic (and refreshingly clean) series in order to really get a full understanding of the Cauld Ane dynamic and all the characters involved; you won't be disappointed!

Pepper, who is Samantha's best friend didn't expect to meet her soul mate when she was introduced to Sam's future brother-in-law. Pepper is an avid horsewoman and had been training for the Olympics with Jonesy her horse she helped to deliver and she raised him, as his mother died while trying to deliver him.

Connall also knew that Pepper would soon become his wife as he had waited for Pepper for years. Connall is a world renown vet who raises Arabian horses and has a massive home in Scotland.

A stalker is after Pepper and Sam's brother Dalton, has been trying to catch him, as Dalton is a FBI agent. Things do get bad for Pepper, but she can't help to fall madly in love with Con and he whisks her away to Scotland to a fairytale life in Scotland. Connall investigate Pepper stalk and he believes he managed to narrow the search and catches the stalker. Pepper's life looks like it is getting better, when the stalker suddenly reappears in Scotland. Does Connall and Dalton manage to tighten the noose on the stalker and catch him before he abducts Pepper and takes her away from her love? I will let you decide by reading this fascinating book. Be sure to read Bound by Blood, as that is the 1st book in this enticing storyline.

I loved this book. This series brought me a fresh paranormal twist, and never fails to catch me off guard. The super-protective nearly immortal alpha men in these books don't hurt either. And I love that their mates are spitfires that give them hell.

These books jump right in to the relationship development between the hero and heroine, and yet still find a way to pace them that I love.

Pepper's story was a bit frustrating for me because I wanted him to fix the "problems" she was having, but then I guess there wouldn't have been much of a book. This was truly the I can't read fast enough, but I don't want it to end, while reading through my fingers covering my eyes scenario.

I loved it. I can't seem to put one of these down, without having the very next one ready to go.

Fun story

Connell is from an ancient race and when he meets Pepper he knows instantly she's his mate. Things happen fast and Pepper has a lot to adjust to. I enjoyed the story, had fun with the paranormal elements and was satisfied with the happy ending.

I read this second installment of Tracey Jane Jackson's Cauld Ane series straight through and right after finishing the first book--BOUND BY BLOOD. While I was fading fast (talk about a reading hangover!) by the end, BOUND BY FIRE carried me through to the very last page. Animal lover Pepper Brooks is an engaging and appealing character. She combines touching vulnerability with strong conviction. Connall Gunnach, her fated lover, is so far the most fully realized of Jackson's unique trio of Scottish-Icelandic brothers. As compassionate and insightful as he is, he truly struggles to understand Pepper. And until he understands her, he cannot adequately protect her against a clever and dangerous enemy.

Because the pair falls for each other at the start of the book, the conflict and communication issues between them are essential in maintaining the romantic tension over the course of a plot that takes some ambitious turns. Jackson does a great job hiding the true identity of Pepper's tormentor while at the same time offering subtle hints that all is not what we might think. By the time the truth is revealed, the reader is strung as tightly as a piano wire.

As the second book in a series, some repetition is inevitable as new readers are given essential information about the nature of the Cauld Ane and the fate of their human mates. I think Jackson could have cut the review by about 30% and been fine. Also, her decisions regarding Pepper's dog at the very beginning of the book lacked a certain subtly. It is typical "bad guy" behavior, yet this stalker is anything but typical in how he operates--through fear, misdirection and the UNEXPECTED. As with BOUND BY BLOOD, the descriptions of both Georgia and Scotland could have been sharper. However, the passages about Connall's country house and cottage seemed to interrupt the action and, in the end, still left me unable to actually visualize the place.

Still, I'm glad to have lost sleep to BOUND BY FIRE. It is entertaining and exciting. I can't wait for the release of the next Cauld Ane book.

I recently have fallen in love with Tracey Jane Jackson, and so far I have loved this series. This is the second book, and I decided it would be good to read this series in order...so I am. Bound By Fire, revolves around Pepper and Connall. Both of these characters we see from the first book. Connall is the brother of Kade (The King of the Caulde Ane). His mate, is Pepper's best friend. Pepper has been keeping secrets from everyone that she knows and loves, but only to protect them. When she gets herslelf in a situation she has no way out of, she meets Connall who senses the panic of his mate. Connall has gone hundreds of years, without the hope of a mate until he meets Pepper, and then he knows that she is his destiny.

This was such a intense yet romantic story that just has totally won me over. From the first book, I could tell I would adore this series and so far my instinct is right. I love the voice of this storyteller, that has created a world that is full of mystery and magic. I really enjoyed the take on this installment, and how different it was from the first book. We see such a deep development of characters in this story, and I enjoyed Pepper--she has pizazz and spunk. She is a fighter and boy does she argue with Connall in every moment---quite enjoyable seeing their interactions with each other. Connall...is well very swoon worthy, he was such a great hero, and I loved him from the beginning. He definitely deserves someone that can handle him, and Pepper keeps him on his toes.

Overall a fun and intense plot that kept me on edge and without being descriptive, a fully romantic and sensual romance that will have you craving for more. A sweet and poignant story to keep a tissue on hand. SIMPLY WONDERFUL!!

I enjoyed it, but it was so similar to the first book in the series (including entire conversations from the first book). I think the author needs to come up with more original ideas for the following books.

I've Outgrown It

DNF on page 48 - 17%.
I think if I had continued this series years ago when I started it I would have enjoyed this book.
Unfortunately, I have outgrown this type of story. The dialogue and the main characters are just too immature for me.

5 stars--WOW
4 stars--would read again
3 stars--was good, won't read again
2 stars--read it, but didn't enjoy it
1 star--didn't finish, it was so awful

Should I read books before this one: yes
Cliffhanger: no

SUMMARY
“Next time, maybe you’ll listen to me, hmm? I warned you that something bad would happen if you didn’t do what I said. This time it was your dog, Pepper. Next time it might be your mother. Or perhaps even Jonesy… although, I think I’ll leave him until last and make you watch.” She doesn't wear the scarf or take his next call. The next night, her workplace burns down. The cops find no evidence of her stalker; even the dog's body is gone. It escalates to Dalton getting shot.

Present
They're waiting for Kade to come from the airport with his brothers. Pepper gets a call from Mom. I don't know where your cat is. The note says you do.

Connall, on the plane, is slammed with irritation and panic. “It’s my mate. She’s close. And in trouble.”

Pepper finds her mom on the floor with a huge bruise on her cheek. The phone is dead, her cell is in her car. She gets a knife to go out, Dalton stops her, hugs her. She hates hugs. Agents swarm. *What’s happening? Where are you?* Pepper glanced at Dalton. “What?” “What, what?” “You just asked me a question… in a weird accent.” Not me. “I must be hearing things.” *Where are you, lass? I’ll come to you.* “Dalton, stop it.” “Pepper, I’m not doing anything!” Dalton gets called away. *Will you tell me where you are? Please?* Pepper's alone. “It’s the stress. It must be.” *It’s far more than stress, lass. You’re terrified. Where are you?* Great. I have a stalker and now I’m hearing voices. *You’re not crazy. I just want to know where you are.* Stop it! Dalton tells her to pack a bag, she's staying in the hotel with Samantha; her mom is at the hospital with an agent.

At the hotel, she sees Sam's group. One meets her eyes, walks over. “Pepper… lass.” How did he know? “I’m Connall.” It was the voice. The one in her head. She blinked up at him as he took her hand and squeezed it gently. She calmed instantly. Gone was the fear that had permeated every fiber of her being for the last few weeks. Gone was the worry of what might happen in the coming weeks… or days. She felt safe. She felt home. She smiled. “Hi. It’s nice to meet you.” “Are you well?” The question was layered and she knew exactly what he was asking.

EVALUATION
The stalker parts are intense! You've been warned. Why she doesn't use telepathy here, I can't fathom.

Both Sam and Pepper were virgins. Odd.

Pepper's and Connall's argument on p105 opened my eyes. Do all abuse survivors feel unworthy? Connall makes me cry: “I love you. Every part of you, especially the part that argues and fights and falls on the dramatic side. I’ve waited a long time for you and I never could have imagined I would have been given everything I’d wished for and more.” Pepper snorted. “It’s the ‘more’ you may give back.” “Never. I want it all.”

I wish Connall had problems to work on. How is he so rich? We still don't know why Mom rebelled.

RECOMMENDATION
Everyone who's read book 1

FAVORITE QUOTES
I will never leave you, Pepper. My hands will never touch you in anger and I will never cheat on you or take you for granted. You will always be the most important person in my life. Always.

“I think we need to end this conversation.” “Why?” “Because ultimately, Pepper’s going to decide what she wants to do, and I’m not really interested in speaking about, or making decisions for her when she’s not here to voice her opinion.”

“Your bags won’t make it to Scotland, Pepper.” “You don’t know that. Duct tape’s an amazing thing.”

[Sam] I may have Kade, but I still need *you.* Who can I complain about Kade to?

“It’s so big, Sam.” “That’s what she said.” “Hey, five years ago called… they want their joke back.” “Hey, the nineties called… they want their ‘they want their joke back’ back.”

Once I found you, I would have moved the world to love you.

“Just promise me you’ll stay close to me. Or Sam. Or Santa Claus, I don’t really care. Just make sure you are never alone.” “Santa? What’s he gonna do? Use the elves as muscle? Newsflash, they aren’t big enough to ride most of the rides at Disney World.”

POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (SPOILERS)
Sex: multiple scenes, all post-marital
Language: 12 f***, 17 Lord's name in vain, 22 s***

The Cauld Ane are a form of immortal Vikings, who moved from Iceland to Scotland in the 1400s.  The core team that the stories revolve around (at least to start with) include siblings Kade, Connall, Brodie and Fiona, along Fiona's mate Angus and his sister Payton.  Most of the Cauld Ane are hundreds of years old, with some of them having been born in Iceland in the 1400s, although Payton is only 14 at the start of the series.  There is virtually no explanation as to why they differ from humans.  They eat the same (they don't drink blood) although they eat more often, however they can't abide any heat over 20 degrees Celsius, and they're all allergic to almonds of all things.

The idea behind the books was fine, but I found the books themselves a little lacking.  Each book focuses on a different mated pair.  Each Cauld Ane 'knows' who his/her fated mate is as soon as they are 25 years old....assuming their mate is alive and they meet.  Connall and Pepper meet just after her 25th birthday.

There were a few things that irked me.
- Instalove.  The Cauld Ane half of the relationship falls into instalove as soon as they meet their mate.  It is literally impossible for them to cheat on their mates, physically or emotionally.  They love their fated mate from the moment they meet.  The end.  Ugh.  That made it frustrating, because they were declaring love for these people they genuinely didn't even know, or perhaps had met only hours or a few days beforehand.  It was ridiculous.
- The non-Cauld Ane half of the relationship also fell in love very quickly.  By 40% through the book, the couple had declared their love, forever and ever, amen.  Why was there still 60% of the book to go??
- Every time a couple had sex, the man went down on the woman.  Without fail.  They NEVER had sex without the man going down on the woman.
- The women always have multiple orgasms.  I was exhausted just reading about it!  It's not normal for a woman to have 4-6 orgasms in a row every time they have sex, which could be 2-3 times a day.  I'm not saying it's not possible, and some women orgasm more easily than others, but to have it's unrealistic for every female character in the series to do so.
- And the men often came more than once, without a break or breather in between.  The author claims to be married with kids, but I'd have put money on her being a virgin.  Talk about unrealistic expectations!  Perhaps the men's miraculous recovery time was due to being Cauld Ane, but it's not said.  Both the women and men treat it as normal.  Well, it's not.  Normal males require recovery time between orgasms.
- Oh, and when you wake your partner up for sex at 4am, it is highly likely that you'll be able to go back to sleep afterwards, not 'Well, there's no way we can go back to sleep now'.  Argh!  It was just ridiculous.  I ended up skipping all the sex scenes.  They weren't sexy at all, they must made me roll my eyes every time with how unrealistic they were.
- Oh, and all the women were virgins, with intact hymens that broke during their first experience of intercourse, despite Pepper at least being a very active horse rider.

The more I read, the more frustrated I got with this series.  There were some good things.  I liked the use of unique gifts for different Cauld Ane, and how those were integrated into the stories.  There were definitely a few things that were unexpected which kept the books from being overly predictable.  I even liked the characters and how each one had a unique personality that made them interesting.  Now if only the actual romance between the two main characters lasted a whole book and not just a fraction of it...

I just love this series. This is my second time reading it and it is just as amazing as the first time. I loved learning about the Cauld Ane in the first book and I got a bit more about them this go around.

In this story we get to see how Connall, Kade's younger brother, and Pepper, Sam's best friend, find their HEA. Connall is a vet and breeder of horses. He also has a talent for healing and communicating with animals. Which all fits perfectly with Pepper, who wants to be a vet and absolutely adores horse... and pretty much all other kinds of animals. The two meet under good and bad circumstances. Good because Connall travels to the U.S. for Sam and Kade's wedding. Bad because the first time he feels her and realizes his mate is close, she paniced because she thinks her mom was attacked. Pepper has been dealing with a sadistic and cruel stalker for months, hiding it from everyone except Dalton, Sam's brother. In the first book we learned that Cole and Dalton are both FBI agents and in this book Dalton is using some of his work connections and training to figure out who Pepper's stalker is. With the help of Connall and family, they managed to figure it out. Once they believe everything is good, Pepper travels with Sam, Kade and Connall back to Scotland, bringing Jonesy along as well.

I love reading this book because it gives us a closer look into more aspects of the Cauld Ane race. It also introduces us to and allows us to get to know some of the other characters better. The fact that Pepper turns otu to be one of a kind was no surprise but the reason she is was a pleasant turn of events. I also really enjoyed getting to see a bit more about Max, Niall and Brodie. Payton is always a welcome addition and seeing Pepper reactions to finding out about the royalty aspect of her and Sam's new lives was really enoyable. I'm can't remember if Cole or Dalton are ever let in on the truth about the Cauld Ane secret or about Sam and Pepper's convertions. I'm looking forward to rediscovering more about this series.

Well done to the author!

I was honored to receive an early copy of Bound by Fire. Connall and Pepper's story is so HOT!!!! It was full of suspense. I was on the edge of my seat because this an exciting suspenseful romance.

A little back story. This is the second book in the Cauld Ane Series. Book one, Bound by Blood, introduces the reader to the Cauld Ane race. They are an almost immortal race, but unlike vampires, they don't need blood. Their biggest weakness is heat. They can't survive living above 68 degrees. Samantha the heroine in Bound by Blood is Pepper's best friend. Kade, the hero, happens to be Connall's older brother. Talk about all in the family!!!!!!! The family will come in very handy in this book.

Pepper is on a downward spiral. She is being stalked by an unknown super scary, super freaky person. If she doesn't do as she is told terrible things happen. The drama brought on by this freak was a rush. I never knew what was going to happen when I turned the page making this a very addictive book. I feared that something would happen to one of the characters I really liked.

Her saving grace is Connall. Well, he will be if she lets him. The chemistry between them is explosive. She wants to protect everyone. He only wants to protect her. They conflict a lot. But when they come together sparks fly. Connall is the poster child for alpha male protector.

There was this one point when I thought life was starting to get easier. After all how could anyone find Pepper in Scotland? The rug was pulled out from under me. I saw fireworks exploding in the sky. I bit my nails to the quick. Be warned, you might want to invest in No Bite. Just saying--freaky scary.

If the suspense wasn't enough to get me hooked, the courtship and romance between Connall and Pepper created a balance making this book a rush that I will read again and again.

Bound By Fire is Book 2 in the Cauld Ane series and is about Pepper and Connall. We met them both in book 1, Bound By Blood. Pepper is Sam's best friend and Connall is one of Kade's brothers.

Pepper has had a tough life and is barely scraping by so she can save up and move to Scotland. Now another problem has come up. She's got a stalker threatening the lives of her loved ones if she doesn't do as he instructs.

Connall is on a plane bound for Georgia to attend Kade and Sam's wedding when he feels panic. He knows it's not his own panic, but must be the panic of his mate, and she is near. He tries to communicate with her through his mind, but she won't have it.

When Pepper arrives at the hotel where the wedding will take place, she sees three men standing with Kade. She is drawn to the taller, blonde one and once he sees her, Connall instantly knows this is Pepper, his mate. When they touch, she instantly calms, and all the fear and anxiety Pepper has been feeling is gone. She feels safe.

This is just the beginning of another great story in this series. Connall must explain about himself and why they are fated to be together and convince Pepper to trust him. Pepper has to learn to trust Connall so he can help her find her stalker and keep everyone safe.

I absolutely loved this story and I am addicted to reading this series! It has everything: sweet romance, hot sex scenes, a really cool backstory for the Gunnach family, lots of funny banter, great secondary characters, plot twists, super hot alpha males, strong and witty women, and so much more!

Connall Gunnach is traveling to the United States to attend the wedding of his brother when he is bombarded with panic. However, the panic is not his own, he quickly realises his destined mate is in peril and he must find her before it’s too late. But when he does, he discovers she already has a champion and a massive chip on her shoulder… and he is a man of many secrets.

Pepper was a misguided idiot, full of mistrust, suspicious of everyone and everything. At times, she needed a swift kick. Other times she acquiesced much too easily.

Backstory

Iceland was under Norwegian rule until 1380. That’s when they came under the control of the Danish Crown, forced to subjugate everything to Denmark, including their autonomy. The Danes didn’t see them worthy of protecting, so they didn’t try to stop pirates from attacking their coastlines. In 1420, his father discovered that his wife was having an affair, and that Fiona was the product of that affair. He chose to use the attacks as an excuse to abscond with their mother, and sailed in 1420.
Connall was born in 1413 and I sailed with his family in 1420.

Red Fang was a flower native to Iceland, and its thorn could paralyse the Cauld Ane. Either by pricking the skin, or it could be ground into a powder and used in food and drink. Although the effects weren’t permanent, they were lethal enough to render someone incapacitated long enough to kill them without a fight.

Colton Drake was an American FBI agent Dalton had hired instrumental in apprehending the threats to the Gunnachs.

Bound by Fire is the second book in the Cauld Ane Series by Piper Davenport. I love this story as it follows Piper and Connall in their story. They meet before a wedding and are attracted to each other at first site. However, there are ups and downs through out the story. Piper has a crazy stalker who seems to get more dangerous through out the story. Plus Piper has a lot to take in because Connall has a big part of him that he has to share that Piper has to take in because she is his destined mate. If she accepts, this will change her world.
This book kept me reading from the beginning. Piper Davenport uses very descriptive language that pulls you into the book. Her characters Piper and Connall are people you like to know. While there are some very serious points through out the book, there are also many different points where I laughed because of the things that were said. This book is amazing and can stand alone by itself, however I would read the first book in the series first if you can. It is called Bound by Blood. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Welcome to the world of the Cauld Ane, you're going to love it here.

This is going to be one of those reviews that doesn't really talk about the story, because honestly - you need to read it and experience it. Although there are similar events that happen in this book as in the first book (connected to being Cauld Ane) there is quite a difference too....and I loved it. There is tonnes of suspense but the love story between Pepper and Con is front and center. Well written, the story flows from the pages. Once I started, I couldn't stop reading.

He took a deep breath and forced a smile. "I'm working it out, love." Pepper slipped her hand under the waistband of his pj's. "Work it out faster.

"Maybe because yours was made when dinosaurs ruled the earth...or was it dragons?"

What do Dairy Queen, Loin of Beef, Burger King and Lady Gaga's meat dress have in common? Guess you need to read this story and find out.

I received this book in return for an honest review. To be honest I am not normally a fan of books with paranormal elements I have only read a couple of authors that keep my interest. But Piper Davenport does not disappoint with this book! Pepper and Connall have a instant connection but we still get to see them build their relationship. This book has several twists that I did not see coming and it is a definite page turner! I loved reading about the family and other characters in the story. Though this is the second book in the series you won't be lost if you have not read the first book. If you are looking for a funny heroine and strong hero then this book is for you! It has suspense, romance, action and humor. If you are a fan of paranormal you will enjoy this book and if you are like me and don't read that genre that often you will still enjoy it! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Really a fan of this series

I’m binge reading this series which I just discovered...read the first two books today. I really like these characters...can’t really encapsulate why...they just resonate with me. There are some plot holes that have yet to be filled...things get thrown out and then not quite dealt with. We still never solved the blood mystery that started the whole series in book one. And there seems to be an awful lot about their species that these paranormals don’t know.

Once again the bad actor is pretty obvious once we get a little background information. Not quite clear how he’d have the abilities or resources to be doing what he’s doing though. It’s never explained and that’s problematic. It also seems to be a pattern as we never got that how and why resolution in book one either.

But those irritations aren’t enough to keep me from moving on to book three in the series.

Holy moly, definitely not quite the way I expected this book to go. But I’m certainly not disappointed. Bound by Fire basically picks up where Bound by Blood ends. But you do get a bit more of a back story on Pepper.

However, things are a constant surprise in this book. From Connall’s reluctance & Pepper’s insistance to the what-is-going-on moments, I never knew quite what was coming. You still have Kane and Sam, of course from the first book. But Kane is Connall’s brother and Sam is Pepper’s best friend. It’s interesting to see what abilities manifest after the bonding, and Pepper’s certainly take everyone by surprise. Love that her hair changes color.

I’m absolutely loving this series and eager to start the next. I believe these could all be read as a stand-alone, but I’m not a good one to ask as I’m reading them right down the line and one after the other. I do have one question though, how does Piper Davenport know Icelandic to begin with? Oh well, of to Bound by Secrets.

Bound by Fire picks up where Bound by Blood leaves off. I don't think you'd have an issue if you read it as a stand alone, but I don't know why you'd want to. These are great stories with action, suspense, hot, sexy men and feisty women that keep them on their toes, oh and did I mention steamy, yes plenty of heat, even if heat is detrimental to the Cauld Ane, they sure know how to turn it up when the time comes :)
When Connall first lays eyes on Pepper, he knows, it's the way of the Cauld Ane. Pepper, being human, of course needs more convincing and time to wrap her mind around the whirlwind that is Connall. Theirs is a story with a lot of push/pull, the biggest hurdle is that he wants to take care of her and she has always been fiercely independent. Through it all, they find their way, there are ups and downs along the way which just make this couple one you really want to root for.
I can't wait to start the next book, I have a feeling Payton is going to knock Brodie's socks off!

I read the original version of this book, and I'm thrilled to say that this version is even better! The story itself is still the same, but there were some subtle changes made that really enhance the story.

This is one of my favorite's of the series because I just love Connall. There are times when Pepper gets on my nerves a bit with her stubbornness, but Connall is really fantastic with her. This book also has a lot of action mixed in with the romance to keep things moving at an exciting pace.

My only real complaint of the original version of this story was that there was some recapping in the beginning that felt very repetitive from book 1. I didn't read book 1 immediately before reading this (like I had previously) but I did not get the same feeling of repetition.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable read and even better than the original (which was already pretty great!)
